We rented from this location three times in one month without problems. First time I was given a car with smoke smell and they graciously switched it to a different one without an odor. We then rented mini vans on two separate occasions, check in and out was easy and smooth. The owners are great. We will return. No hassles, good cars, awesome service. read more

It is absolutely INSANE that upon arrival I was told that the car I had rented online was not there. They said I could pay more and rent a car that was available. Why would I be able to rent a car online only for it not to be available?! When asked when my car would be coming, they said they didn't know. Depends on when it is dropped off and they didn't know when. This too is crazy because when renting, it asked when I was going to return the car, so why would they not know? If I did would take to car way before returning this location has cheap prices l but the interior is done with a vacuum plugged into wall no major wash to where to can see to drive. This Avis location seems to be privately owned. It is located in a strip mall close to McDonalds. Cars are parked in back of the store. We placed a reservation online. Their system was down so he (the owner?) did not know we were arriving. Fortunately, he was able to manually enter our reservation, and rent us a car. To get to the vehicles, he took us through their back exit. It was a mess back there. Made me a bit nervous of the condition of the vehicles. He gave us two choices. One car he would need to clean and vacuum first. The second car which he said was ready was smaller than what our reserved vehicle was supposed to be. Didn't mind too much because there was just two of us riding the vehicle. That vehicle was not thoroughly cleaned!! Don't know how they could have missed the lighter and sock filled with a bottle of something sitting on the passenger floor. Oh well, at least the car rode well and drove smoothly. I travel a bit - last year 100 + hotels nights, earning a couple few elite status reward programs. I'm an RN investigator and love to "go somewhere!" Mid - November 2021 found me traveling out of the country for 22 nights, an AVIS representative made me a reservation with AVIS Port Hueneme for a one way rental to LAX. On-site at AVIS Port Hueneme, I waited for a gentleman to check in his return, then stepped up to the counter and gave her my confirmation. The woman said " your reservation was canceled." To say the least - I was floored . The conversation afterwards was short- she had gold members, didn't know who canceled my reservation, did not have cars and was not interested in assisting me. I was furious to say the least and needed to walk away before I let loose a sharp tongue. So travel kids, here is what I've learned - you may have a legit confirmed reservation and be canceled by AVIS without cause or notice. AVIS hasn't been in my wheelhouse and now never will be. I know you are on the edge of your seats .... I literally drove myself to LAX and paid $500 for parking. I flew into the Yucatán peninsula and didn't even get sunburned or thank goodness covid. Best car rental office! I've used this particular Avis three times all reservations were min a week and once I used Avis in Texas. The rates can't be beat, this office staff is so incredibly kind and accommodating. I had to use enterprise once for a car accident because it was who they contract with and I cancelled them because the guy was so horribly rude that I preferred to pay out of pocket and come to Avis. Also there's a sign claiming that they wear gloves and masks while cleaning the cars during COVID but I watched one guy cleaning the cars without either. That was nothing compared to the rest of my horrible experience. I had to go there 4 times because it was close to my house and I had to walk, this lady that works there/I think is the manager or owner or something (she was the only employee all but the time I saw the guy cleaning cars.) so anyway... I had a reservation for a rental, I also had a warranty for my rental to be totally paid, she was so so difficult and essentially tricked me with misinformation about paying upfront so now I'm waiting a while to be reimbursed. So anyway I end up needed an extension to the rental so after returning the other car I came in with a reservation and what she claimed she needed from me last time (some code that I had to wait on the phone forever for - also she refused to talk to the warranty company about the problem or her own cooperate office when I was talking to them.) now she claims that she needed me to set up a prior reservation with the billing account attached. I ended up leaving in tears because I was so frustrated. Walked home. Make the fking reservation and set up direct billing on the phone with Budget corporate. Next day my mom takes me to pick it up, she now claims that she can't let me have the car. I have to pay up front again. I say I can't, she keeps trying to push the payment towards me and saying she can't do it. So I ask if we can figure it out on the phone and she said no " I can't take the code over the phone" they kept asking "why can't you take it over the phone" this over and over until the warranty company literally asked my mom if they could speak to a different employee. But no.. she was the only one there again. So incredibly difficult, worst customer service ever I have never in my life been treated so poorly. She was so rude mean and uninformative, I will never support that location again. Do yourself a favor and go to enterprise. I made a reservation for a car last week, being a loyal customer of Budget/Avis for many years. I rent a car at least once a month, mostly at the Ventura and SB locations. I've never had a problem until I had the misfortune of dealing with this office . I knew I'd be late the day of my reservation, which was confirmed by Priceline, so you assume it will be good to go , right? Wrong. So I tried to call and let them know at least 6 times the morning of that I'd be about 30 minutes late- no one ever answered the phone . When I walked in just 15 minutes late for my reservation, it was a completely empty office with one lady, middle aged and of perhaps Indian decent. When I gave her my name , she claimed to have called me the night before to let me know that there were no cars, but my voice mail was full. I checked and had no missed calls. She didn't even try to pretend she had tried to call the day of (or text). You would think that if they knew they had a reservation that couldn't be completed, that they would continue to try to call the day of, cancel the reservation through Priceline, or at least answer their phone right ? Wrong. There were also obvious rental cars outside which makes me wonder the validity of her statements. I was terrified to be stuck without a car I needed to have that day to pick up two small children, and asked her if she could at least help me find a car somewhere else. She told me no one had cars and that was that. No effort to call around or even so much as an apology... I ended up speaking to corporate and they were magically able to find me a car in TO and Santa Barbara. So, if you do business here, beware. You may be surprised with no car, but the one thing you can count on is that that lady not caring whatsoever (or answering the phone). Good luck . I'll obviously never be back. read more

The couple that run and own this location are amazing! They always remember my boyfriend and I whether we rent together or separately. We've been using this company/location for about a year now and rent about once a month. So far we haven't experienced any problems. We always make our reservations online (I have the app) and we pay in advance which is a little cheaper than paying in person. They're always quick to assist and the vehicles are usually clean. I've noticed once or twice some small things left behind by the renters before us (usually under the seats) but other than that the vehicles are fine. We once accidentally left a tripod who's case blends into the trunk interior which went unnoticed when the vehicle was given to the next renter. After I called to report it, the owner stayed in contact with me to ensure I got it back when the rental was returned. To address some other reviews: Yes the back room is a bit of a mess, but I've only walked through a couple of times and honestly it's not a big deal. I've NEVER experienced any "hidden" fees when renting here and have never had an issue with booking. They make the pricing very clear if you're dropping off later than scheduled or add on days to your rental. The app is very helpful with this as well or just looking on their full website. read more

Horrible. There was a lady here yesterday around 5-6 pm that refused to let us rent a car because we had a "temporary driver liscense" he also had a copy of social, work ID with a photo, and a printed photo of the driver liscense. My husband lost his ID when we got to lax airport and was issued temporary one. We called customer service and they said it shouldnt have been a issue and we shouldve been able to get the car. Staff needs to be properly trained and know that sort of information instead of turning customers away. read more

Honestly Bob and his wife are amazing, we rent due to work long periods at a time and been doing so for months. They are the sweetest and nicest people ever! They are always very nice and communicate with us and very fast and get things done and so easy to work with. I have had experience in Avis in Vta and as much as they were helpful I was jumping through so many hoops and loops and the customer service compared to Oxnard was nothing in comparison. Out of the requested BMW which was on the photo that I paid for in advance, but then they whipped out a Mercedes C300! Always wanted to drive one and am getting my wish. Totally loaded other than the GPS - ton of fun. One other thing is the number of agents at the check-in desk - they had a lot so a limited wait time which was great and usually this doesn't happen. So far so good with Avis! So from 5 to 0 on my return to Avis. I prepaid for the car and declined the insurance. When I picked up the car at the airport I distinctly said I didn't want insurance and as the agent cycled through each page he confirmed that and I thought things were fine but as I dropped off the car at the end of the trip I found an extra $211 charge and per the customer service rep this was for the additional insurance I purchased. Yes I had signed the agreement but did not notice this. Bummer for me but very very deceptive and the last time I will ever rent a car from Avis. read more

Indian lady that owns this location isn't interested in helping any customer unless she can screw you over for more money. She gave a Ford with a huge bubble on the wheel which is super unsafe to drive. I can't out my wife and family in an unsafe car. She didn't seem to care and certainly wasn't interested in trading this Crap car for a better one. The next car they tried to give me was worse than the first. No way. Since my sister came to visit me and this was an impromptu vehicle rental, I decided to pay for her return. After Bob took her license information, I tried to give him my credit card. He told me that he couldn't accept anyone's credit card that wasn't the driver's. I tried to debate him on this as I don't understand why it matters who pays for the car, so long as the car is being paid for. He told me it was a matter of customer security. Again, if the vehicle is being financial tended to, I don't see why it matter who pays for it so long as the credit card holder is there presenting his/her I.D. He told me it was company policy to not accept credit cards other than the rentee, so I asked him if I could see the policy. Truth be told, based on the location's appearance, I didn't particularly trust this man, which is why I asked to see the policy in writing. To which he replied, "You rented the car online correct? Then you should be able to see the policy online". Most other places I have ever rented a car from usually have their policies hung up on the wall or on pamphlets that the associates won't hesitate to give per your request. I just wanted to make sure Bob wasn't creating policies that didn't exist, which is what I told Bob. "How do I know you are not making this policy up? I'm just asking for the policies in writing". He told me that if I wanted to argue with him that I could just leave. Not once did I raise my voice or change my tone, I was inquisitive yes but never disrespectful. Since we were already there and we already had a reservation, my little sister just went along with it. When she was done with the paperwork, Bob didn't even have the courtesy to walk us out the door and show us around the car. All he did was point to the car from behind the counter and said, "it's that one". Again every rental place that I have ever been a customer of always shows us around the car to note the current damage on the car and to ask if we are pleased with it. I told my little sister to take pictures so that she doesn't get blamed for damage that was already on the vehicle. When I got home I called their customer service number to file a complaint, initially they didn't want to take my complaint since my little sister was actually the one that signed the contract; however, since my little sister hadn't left yet, she authorized me to let me speak to them on her behalf. The customer service associate was also surprised by what I told him and he was very apologetic. He did tell me that he couldn't give me a discount or money back and asked how this could best be resolved. I told him I wasn't looking for monetary compensation, I would be happy with a personal apology from either management or Bob. The associate told me that a supervisor would call me back in the future to see if we could come up with a resolution. After 2 days, a supervisor named Carmen called me back but I missed her call. On her voice-mail she stated that she wanted to get the "rest of the feedback on the representative (Bob)" so that they could finalize my complaint and she gave me a number to call them back. I called her back a few hours later and provided the reference number she gave me. I didn't end up speaking with Carmen instead I got Gabriel. He asked me how could he assist me and I told him that Carmen called me and had some questions for me based on her voice-mail. Gabriel was quite rude and defensive, he stated the I called them so he wanted to know how he could help me resolve my case. Again I told him, "Carmen called me and told me she needed rest of my feedback so I'm calling you guys back". To which he replied with, "Well what do you want me to do sir?" All I wanted was to resolve this issue. To make sure what happened to me doesn't happen to anyone else but all I kept getting from this company was defensive people that seemed to be having a bad day. Of course I didn't tell him that but I did tell him that I just wanted to resolve this issue. This is where he turned and stated that I wasn't on the contract that my little sister signed so I couldn't even file a complaint. He asked me if she was here with me but she was obviously in San Diego already. I told him that my sister gave me permission to handle her case and that it should be logged into her file from my earlier conversations with other customer associates. He stated that doesn't matter, that she has to be the one to file the complaint. After this I got fed up and told him to forget about it. That was the point I decided to write this review. From start to finish, not once did I feel welcomed or reassured by this company. I've dealt with rude associates in the past, but usually their management team is a lot more understanding and comprehending. This was never the case with Avis. From Bob to the management team of customer service, not once did I feel like they had my best interests at heart. I can honestly say that I will not rent from this company again. read more

I reserved the rental online. While I arrived late to pick up the car, the process was fast and easy. The owners were pleasant. However, the car was not washed prior to pick up. Typically it wouldn't bother me since I was driving from one city to another. However, it's summer and hot out. After letting the car sit over night (picked up in the evening)... when we went to drive it the car STUNK like BO! The air conditioning didn't help things and we felt like we stunk every time we were in or got out of the car. The seats were fabric so I assume the person who rented it prior to me likely sweated a lot on their drive from AZ (where the car plates were from). I sure hope they make sure the cars are cleaned prior to renting to a new person going forward. read more

Avis as a whole should be shut down. My daughter who is active duty military needed a car to get home for Christmas leave while on orders. Bob from this Avis location, was more than happy to charge my daughter for 5 days at a weekly rate of $774.00. When you try to call Bob at this location he will be more than happy to give you the run around and provide NO ASSISTANCE what so ever. We then try to call Avis from their corporate customer service and they say that the birth date on the rental contract is incorrect and cannot help us. And hang up. How would Avis have the wrong birth date when my daughter provided two forms of ID to Bob. WORST CAR RENTAL PLACE EVER!!!!!!!!!!! I wish there was less than a one star option on yelp. Had a 3 day rental as my vehicle was in the shop on the return day I stopped in first thing in the morning to let them know my car was not going to be ready by expected time so I got charged for an entire day rental for a few hours instead of a late return fee what a rip off! I had a good experience with this particular Avis for the first time. I had no problems getting the vehicle I reserved. The employee who worked in the office the time that I picked up the vehicle was nice and had good customer service skills (very professional). The car that they gave me was a brand new Chevy Cruz which was nice and cozy! Before I took the vehicle, the employee made sure that the car was clean.
