Short Version: Bumpy start, insurance hurdles, problematic parts situation, disappointment, resolution but ultimately complete satisfaction. I had reservations through the process, but Rick is a stand up and honest guy. One of those real people you don't meet very often. Maybe a little rough around the edges but he will work diligently to help you find a way to resolve problems that arise. I mean if you ever owned and RV you know, if you are just getting into the game he can help. He has experience and knowledge and is willing to work through problems. It took some time, but he earned my trust and confidence. I'd go to Rick and Tri County RV anytime. It's great to have an owner operated business this dependable in Ventura and provides great value for the community. Longer Version: Rick and I had a bumpy road. Dealing with insurance, manufacturers, custom parts and a comic cascade of communication which went best in person, second best via direct email and off the rails a little with phone or disparate emails with third parties. However, Rick hung in there and while I sometimes may appear unreasonable, I'm not. I'm often just too curious for my own good. I brough my brand new motorhome in to Rick for a number of upgrades and minor repairs. From my experience he is as honest as the day is long. He is also creative and inventive and has saved me money by offering alternatives and fabricating items. My only issue is that he is so good at what he does that he is always busy! I was camping at Hobson Campground in Ventura when my wife decided to take a shower in our RV. Cold water!!! Called to Tri-County RV and spoke with a gentleman who could have just said, "Sounds like you need a new water heater!" Instead he helped me trouble shoot the problem. It did take two trips picking up parts but to make a long story short got my water heater going for less than $40.00 in parts. You would never get that kind of service from Camping World or any other RV repair shop. If I am ever in need of someone to repair my coach I will not think twice bringing it to them. Let's face it, if you've got a $100,000.00 rig you're gonna take it to a dealer or high-end shop for your repairs, and can probably afford being ripped off on parts and labor. But if you're like most of us and don't, you need to find the most honest, fair priced repair option for the things you can't figure out on your own (usually with the help of youtube). In Ventura County, that's where Tri-County RV comes in. I've had repairs done at three other RV shops in the county over the past several years, and through process of elimination and frustration have settled on the guys at Tri-County. And it seems that a lot of other folks have figured this out as well. The repair yard has been full nearly every time I've gone there, and the guys are busting their butts trying to manage all the work. In my experience this situation can lead to a little absent-mindedness on the owner's part, but is in no way a reflection of incompetence or nefariousness. If anything, these guys seem to bend over backwards to not charge for something you don't really need. I know that was my case on an exhaust-leak repair. All that said, if possible make your repair reservation as far out as possible. They are busy. read more

I took my new to me 04 RV here. I was looking for just a check to be sure all was good. I was told and shown that there was a problem with my battery and generator. The electric went off when the generator came on. I was also told that there was a problem in my engine that a valve was making a noise.. I am totally inexperienced in anything like this. I took his word. I contacted the man I bought it from and he said nothing was wrong with RV... and offered to check it out and even buy it back if these things were true. The next day I went to my rig, turned it on and all things worked, the lights, the battery and the generator. I was to return here to have it assessed again in a few days but choose not to go and took my first trip with it solo. Everything worked, no problems at all. I was also told my brakes needed to be replaced. I have since taken it to another place, and the brakes are fine, and the valve thing... no problem. I dropped $890 on my initial assessment...and truly do not know what was done. I feel I was taken advantage of because I said I was new at this... and I am a woman. Worst service ever. Led me to believe they were doing work / research for days. Kept having to check in and they said they'd get back to me. Found out they never contacted anybody for a quote (tires) and told me to call them (a day before we were supposed to have an appointment). So my family rented an RV for a trip for 7 nights and 8 days. While we rented the largest model they carried, our deposit check took 3 weeks to be returned (which wasn't too big of an issue) however I am giving this only 3 stars because the the beds in the RV were TERRIBLE. For an RV being worth over 100,000 it had it ALL, except the comfort of a bed. All 3 beds were so disappointing. Sleep.was.tough. The point of a vacation is to relax. Also, if your not covered by Farmers Insurance, don't expect insurance coverage from ANY of your other providers. That was also a very big issue. The pros are that the RV was roomy, and we had a great time. Any other questions please message me. They called me the evening prior to our scheduled pick up date and told me that the RV we reserved had been in an accident and was not going to be available...okay I get it... Stuff happens but then to ask What was my address so he could send a refund? Are you kidding me!? How about trying to find another local company that has what we are looking for and taking care of it for us??? What happened to customer service? We obviously needed the RV as we have scheduled a trip or we wouldn't have rented it!!! This is going to be a long one! Made the unfortunate mistake of not checking yelp before booking through tri county rv. I have never left a 1 star review before. I know how damaging bad reviews can be on a small business but this was literally one of the worst and most bizarre experiences we've ever had with a company. We booked 12 sites at emma wood 6 months in advance for a huge group trip. I looked at multiple rv rental companies and decided on tri county. The day before our trip I called to pay the final payment. Our card wouldn't go through for some reason so I checked the account while I was on the phone with Jennifer. All the money was in there so no reason it wouldn't go through.  Jennifer suggested we could use a check at delivery to pay final payment,  she approved it through the owner, Rick. I could have given a different card but since she suggested a check I just went with it. *This was noted on the invoice he brought at delivery. She stated that Rick would leave their yard at 2 and be there between 230-3 depending on traffic. I get a call from him at 230 asking if we are going to his yard or meeting him at the camp ground.  I said that Jennifer said you would meet us at the campground between 230-3. So then he says he's leaving right away and will be there at 330. We get there and start unpacking the car. Everyone else's trailers have arrived without a problem. 330 comes, no rick. At 4 I give him a call and ask his ETA. He says he is JUST LEAVING the yard. What the?? We have 2 small kids that want to go down to the beach and start enjoying our vacation. I nicely say that I am a little disappointed since Jennifer said you would be here before 3 and then you said you would be here by 330. Right away he gets angry and asks if I just want a refund. I said well I'm here and I need the trailer so no I don't want a refund. He keeps saying that if I'm so disappointed then he can just turn around and give me a refund. I'm so flustered at this point I don't even know what to say. He mentions the front desk girl is new(this was a lie) and gave me bad info (even though the invoice reflects what she said) and sarcastically said he would just fire her first thing monday. So weird! He then texts me once we get off the phone saying that they normally don't even deliver until full payments been made so that's what changed the scheduling. He was the one that personally approved the check payment at delivery so that's total bs. My husband had to call him 20 min later to see what was going on. He was cordial to my husband and said he would be there within 30-45 min. 90 min later he shows up! He set everything up and showed my husband the trailer. While signing off on it my husband casually asked how to open the awning (I specifically asked Jennifer about this the day before. Wasn't sure if we needed to bring a pop up or not). He tells my husband that because of insurance they can't put it up?! It is listed as one of the amenities of the trailer on their website. So when my husband asked how will we have shade then? He flips out again saying he can just come pick up later in the evening and refund us which is obviously ridiculous.  *During all the set up he apologizes to my husband about shortening our 1st day and says he will give us a discount. He ends up coming back the next day and opening the awning for us and having to replace the panel because the fridge wouldn't get cold.  My husband ends up getting called into work a day early so we have to cut the trip short. We let him know so that he can either pick up early or we can leave it locked up for him to pick up the last day. He says to leave it locked up and he would grab it early. We get a call from one of our friends saying that 2 people from the company came and are going to just use the trailer and our paid site for the night. How weird is that?! Our site was right in the middle of all our friends sites. We contacted Rick telling him we didn't appreciate that and asking for a partial reimbursement since his employee just got a one night vacation in our paid site. He basically responded by saying our friends are too sensitive if they cant camp next to 2 people and that we technically 'abandoned' the trailer by telling him we were leaving a day early. So we just paid for an over night vacation at the beach for your employees? Seriously stay away from this company. Read through the other reviews and see how many similar stories to mine there are. Half of our group rented trailers and paid less then us and had no issues. So there are most definitely better companies available. read more

wow, I just got the yelp app, So I thought I would check out the comments about Tri-County RV . I am telling everyone that Rick is an ARROGANT A__ . We took our RV into him to have the awning fixed ,which he had put in a couple weeks prior. It was wound to tight. This was on the Monday before July 4th, we told him we needed it by Friday cuz we had reserved a spot at Lake Casitas, He said no problem he'd give us a call ..should be Wednesday or Thursday. Well Friday we hadn't heard from him so we started calling and got his answering machine even stating that they would be open Saturday.Saturday morning comes along so we start calling, already missed our one night of camping kept getting the answering machine, so we go down there to see why he isn't answering us.The place is all locked up...So we lost 4 days of camping that we had already paid for. We were pissed to say the least when we showed at opening Monday morning. He wasn't even there yet..We asked his office lady where he was cuz we have a big problem with him about our trailer not being ready. If you knew you weren't going to have it ready ,you could of at least been professional and given us a call ,so we could have made other plans. My Boyfriend told her (Jennifer )that we want our trailer backNow !! She said we would have to wait until the owner gets there. And then That Crazy Rick texted my bf acting just like all you other people said. Told us to get off his Property,or hes gonna call the cops.We will get our RV back whenever he felt like. it I I could go on and on but I hope other people read yelp so they don't have to be a victim of his unprofessional business. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Months ago we planned a family vacation. We picked this company because they promised to deliver the RV to the camp grounds, but were very specific about the time. Then, on the day of delivery they were a no show. After waiting about an hour, we called to see where they were, but nobody answered so we left a message. Then some guy named Rick is calling my sister yelling, "I'm stuck in #%£! traffic. You better not be calling to $):@'n complain. I'll get there when I $;)0'n get there!." Well, as you can imagine, I was upset when she told me how she was treated. I called the office and told them not to come. We did not want to deal with such an unprofessional company, and we were a little intimidated about this crazy person. Next thing we know, Rick is calling all our phones wanting to actually fight! If it sounds crazy to you it did to me too, but I was pretty angry at this point, so I said, "bring it." It should be no surprise to you that he gave me 2 places to meet him, and again, a no show at both spots. I guess he is exactly what you would expect from a person who thinks its ok to cuss out a woman. A total coward. Anyway, do not use this company. We have been traveling around North America in our RV with our five year old and our five month old. Rick and Dorwin of Tri County RV are two of the most knowledgeable, kindest and most helpful people we have met. We were having some problems with our electrics, and most importantly with our little ones, the AC. We stopped by Tri County RV after seeing it from the highway. They both stopped what they were doing and helped us figure out the problem right away. We couldn't believe how well they knew the inner workings of the electrical system. I've changed my view of Tri-County RV my first time I took my RV and I thought I found a great place gave them five stars. The second time I took my RV and I found them to be rude and dishonest. Rick quoted me a price and then it tripled once I brought my RV in and they started to work on it. So I didn't have that work done. But the leaky roof and the batteries that were supposed to be covered under warranty Rick tacked on unreasonable hours that the Thor warranty wouldn't pay, they said that was a real unreasonable amount of hours, and he expected me to pay for it this seems to be common practice at Tri-County RV. When I said that's not right here already had done the work. So I called Thor the maker of my RV and they agreed to pay another hour of labor for warranty work which was leaks in the roof. When I went back to Tri-County RV. I told him I got another hour from the manufacture for warranty and I didn't feel it was fair for them to charge me for work that should've been covered under warranty. Rick then told me to take my RV and get it out of there. I ended up paying out of my pocket $150 for work that should've been covered under warranty. The final knife in the back is the roof still leaks. So he didn't even fix the problem. I tried to save the relationship by paying $150 and when I tried to shake Rick's hand he turned walked away and said get your RV out of here. I brought my travel trailer here for some serious water damage repair. My trailer was only a few months old so it was still covered under the manufactures warranty. This company was so willing and ready to help! The receptionist is amazing at what she does and you can tell she works very closely with the owner and knows the business. After they looked at my trailer and consulted with the manufacturer, we decided to send the trailer strait to the manufacturer because there was way more damage then expected. We didn't actually have Tri County do the repairs but they did a very thorough inspection and I would of felt very confident in their work! Judy & I were preparing to leave Santa Barbara. Our slide wouldn't go in. Normal troubleshooting failed. Coach net dispatched Tri-County RV service from Ventura. Rick showed up, did basic troubleshooting on my Class A 45' Travel Supreme & diagnosed it as an electrical issue initially. He got the 16' slide in and we agreed to have him repair it. Got to his shop in Ventura. He prioritized our repair ahead of most others and identified a worn out motor. He located a new motor & ordered it. We were both ecstatic with his knowledge of our RV in general and an excellent customer service demeanor. He even worked on Sat & Sun to get us on our way. We would be glad to recommend him to our friends for any repairs & will plan on using him in the future. read more

Worst RV rental experience EVER! I recently rented an RV from Tri County RV. I am a single mom of two kids, a 12-year-old and 2-year-old. I had this trip planned for 6 months. When I called to make the reservation they said I needed special insurance and I had to switch car insurance companies. Then they said I had to drop off on Monday, due to being closed on Sundays. I said, "oh bummer we will be back Sunday. Is there any way we can drop off then?" He was very nice and responded, "Yeah, you know I will be in that Sunday so not a problem. I am coming in in the afternoon to do some stuff." The big day came, the kids were beyond excited, as was I. I realized though, I was never given a pick up time. So I called them around 10 am. He said, "Oh, well we usually say around 2pm, but it's just sitting here let me make sure it's ready to go, and you can just come pick it up." I thought wow, they are so friendly and carefree. So I went and picked it up around 12pm Thursday afternoon. Dorwin met me and walked me through everything. He was very informative and nice. He said as I signed the paper work, "so see you on Monday the 15th. I said, "Oh I thought I could drop off Sunday?" I live in a complex where there is nowhere to park an RV. Closest place to park is 15 minute walk away. With two kids... not ideal. He responded, "oh yeah, Sunday drop off." That was that, and I drove off. We went to Jalama and my kids had a great time. Then we got home...... We left the campground early. Got home around 11 am. I unloaded the RV and the kids, and called them immediately. No answer. So I started to clean it, even though I was charged a cleaning fee, I was very happy with how sweet they were and really wanted to return it in good condition. I called again, and again. I left a few messages, and kept calling. Hours were now passing and I had the RV parked in my alley way, where it was not supposed to be (HOA rules). I just didn't want to be driving the RV back and forth in town trying to return it if no one was there. Finally I asked my daughter to watch my son, and I drove and filled it with gas and was just headed to their lot when I got the call. A man named Rick was on the other line, not just yelling, but SCREAMING at the top of his lungs at me. Asking me where his RV was. I said, "I am so sorry sir, I have been trying to reach...." I was cut off by his yelling, "Shut up, I am talking. What right to you think just keeping my RV? You were supposed to return it this morning! I have someone who has it rented and they are waiting!" It was now 2pm. I said, "I am so sorry. I have been trying to call you since I got here and no..." Again he cut me off kept screaming at me. I tried to ask why no one contacted me, but just was told to shut up again, and he just kept screaming at me. By this time I was in tears, and terrified to drop off the RV. It was a very hostile call and I didn't feel safe at this point. When I got there the shop was open and there were workers all around. I met Dorwin in there where he informed me he was going to be charging me an additional $125 fee. I showed him my phone and he said that we do not answer phones on Sunday. Which doesn't make sense. You are a RV rental company, you have RV's out.... Why wouldn't you answer the phone? I didn't agree with the charges, but at that point felt very unsafe and wanted to leave. I was never given a drop off time, and feel I was totally scammed. Having a man scream at me on the phone like that was very unprofessional and for a girl quite frightening. Dorwin later told me I should have called the number on the paper work. The number had been explained to me as, if you have a mechanical error, flat tire or the RV stops working call it. I assumed it was an on call mechanic. This trip went from one of the best trips ever, to a horrible nightmare due to this rental company. I have rented from Cruise America a few times, and even though they don't have a convenient pick up/drop off location for me I will be going back to them for my rentals. Rick ended up being the owner of the RV location. I am still in shock of how he talked to me and how he screamed over and over "SHUT UP!" when I tried to answer his questions. Rent from a place where you have more protection. ***They also didn't give me back my $1000 check deposit. Such a deflating experience. ****UPDATE 6/30/15***** Last night Rick sent me a private message saying "Online slamming is for weak people trying to feel important." I have screen shots of all communication. If anyone would like to see how this guy bullies.... Please feel free to message me. I had issues with the 27ft Minnie Winnie which I was not too pleased with the service I received, or, more accurately, did not receive. 1) We have owned a Motorhome for 7 years so I think I'm knowledable about how a motorhome toilet functions. The tank sensors are coated which gives a false reading. Typical for any motorhome. We were camped in the tent section at Carpinteria State Beach (no hook-ups). On day 3 I look down the toilet throat and see water and paper and decide to flush the tanks. Later that day the wife reports that water and paper are still visible in the toilet line. Upon further inspection I determine the line is plugged. Some probing with a stick proves this. I text 'Rick' to let him know the situation and inform them I'm going to try and get a toilet snake from the campground facilities team. He advises against this as the snake 'will damage the holding tank' and suggests I use a toilet wand to flush out the clog. There is no such wand in the RV and there is not a 'black water' hose to use...only the drinking water hose. The suggestion was made to me "to ask other campers in the park if I can borrow their wand and hose. They surely would be willing to help me out." Carpinteria is ~22.7 miles from their facility, not like driving all the way to Yosemite. This is their Rental rig. I was able to 'resolve' my issue with a bamboo BBQ skewer salvaged from the camp trash and some of my time and A LOT of water. For the record each time one put anything more than urine down the toilet it clogged. Later Tri County RV informed me there was compacted toilet paper in the line. For the record I bought a package of Marine/RV toilet paper from them and this was the product used in the toilet...that and much water. This RV is not for dry camping areas. 2) Drove the Winnie from the Tri County RV lot in Ventura to Carpinteria State Beach. Ran the generator ~30 minutes each day for 5 days. Drove to the dump station inside the park and back to the tent site. Drove to a full hook-up site inside the Carpinteria State Beach for 2 days. Drove back to Tri County RV. This is about 50 miles total. I was able to pump 16 gallons of fuel into the Rv to fill it. Do that math. ~ 3miles per gallon on the highway or that generator sucks A LOT of fuel. My money is on the RV not being filled with gas when I picked it up, but rather filled until the fuel gauge read 'full'. 3) Tru County RV claims I used 8 gallons of propane on our trip. That would be 6 months of RVing in my older motorhome! I made coffee each day on the RV stove and I ran the hot water heater for 2 hours in the full hookup site. For the record I cooked breakfast and dinner on a campstove along with coffee and used two disposable cylinders of propane! To summarize: When you pick up the RV, make note of the propane level on the tank (I didn't :-( ) Go immediately to the shell gas station at Valentine Road and top up the tank...give the receipt to Rick or Dorwin to show how much fuel was used since the last person returned the RV. Bring a toilet wand and hose or do not put paper or #2 in the toilet. Oh, and when you connect the RV to city water it leaks, flooding your campsite. no explanation for THAT on my final bill! First off, GO ELSEWHERE if you're not up for a really bizarre experience or if you have any RVing plans in the near future. So here goes....last spring tri county rv replaced a refrigerator unit on my toyhauler. Worked fine, done on time, reasonable prices, no worries. BOOM! Give em 5 stars. Couple months later brought it in for a new awning. Got that one on time too, but it didn't roll up right and I discovered some further repairs to the awning frame that needed done. Rick (the owner himself) said he'd get them done by Thursday before 4th of july. ( We already had camping reservations and planned to spend the holiday with a large group of friends.) OK, fair enough so far....still 5 stars, right? Didn't hear anything, assumed all was well, went about our lives till lunchtime Thursday, called, and no answer. Left a message, then drove out there to discover the place locked up and nobody home. Spent all 4 days leaving messages and driving out to have a peek once or twice a day instead of partying with my friends. BOOM! Knock off a couple stars. About 9am Tuesday, went out there again to get my rig. It was sitting in the yard with the replacement parts lying nearby. Was informed by Jennifer (the office staff) that I'd get my rig when the owner showed up and not before and that she had no idea when he'd be there. When I informed her that wasn't acceptable and told her to open the back gate so I could retrieve my rig, she claimed to be "frightened" and ordered me off the premises. I complied. BOOM! Knock off 2 stars for that. Soon I received a moist, noisy, and abusive voicemail from Young Master Rick, threatening me with arrest if I returned, and also threatening to blacklist me with all the local RV services. This was eventually followed by a text informing me that my rig was parked outside his lot, which it was, on the street in a less than ideal neighborhood with a bunch of bums living in an old motor home 50 yards down, unlocked, with one of the load leveller retaining clips missing and the other still sitting on the drawbar. BOOM! Knock off 3 stars for all that, leaving a total score of......-2 ???!! Okay, lets be fair. Inside the unlocked trailer was an invoice for about $125, balance zero. GIVE THAT MAN A STAR!!!! Rick has always done a great job for us. First service was a mobile emergency call to the beach when our electric over entry door awning failed in the out position. Great response and timely repair. If there were 20 stars, we would give them to these folks. We are a couple but mostly my wife goes to take care of the rv maintenance. Many rv service people would take advantage of a customer.....not the case with tricounty rv. At least 3 times she thought we needed new parts, etc. but this amazingly honorable company fixed things and talked her out of needing to replace with new parts. This is business done the good old fashioned way.....integrity and hard work. read more
