Set up a time to repair my rv the day prior which he set at 10am. I waited 30 minutes past the scheduled time and I decided to call to make sure we were still good to go. James informed me that he was on another job that would take another 2-3 hrs and said" I have you down, but didn't know that you set a time." He set the time, did not show nor communicate that he was on another job. Took off work to come home to meet with him and waited for over an hour for this to happen. Then he wanted to set up another time to come out. Poor communication and not the way to run a business in my opinion. read more

James, who responded to my Yelp message, gave me a call and was very professional on the phone which is why I went with Camper Keepers for my repairs. However the two service techs that actually came out were subpar unfortunately. I guess I misunderstood the quote I thought it was $125 to come out for the first hour. However it was $125 just to come out and another $150 for the first hour. The two service techs checked my generator and my batteries. Supposedly the batteries were fine, however, a month later I went elsewhere because I was still having issues and they determined my AGM batteries were bad and all 4 of them were swollen. For the generator, all they did was add oil and they said it would be fine. A month later, after still having the same issue, it was determined that the generator was operating under frequency. When I was still having issues with the generator I tried calling the tech back out and he wanted to charge me again for coming out when he didn't even fix the problem in the first place. The giveaway that he didn't know what he was doing is that he said he thinks the issue now is the "carbonator." First of all, it is spelled carburetor. Secondly, my generator is propane, therefore, no carburetor. I was charged $300 and all they did was clean my solar panels and add oil to the generator and neither of which solved the real issue. read more

This review relates to James's response time. He is nicely communicative. He also followed up with me a week later to check in to see if they wanted to hire him. James came by to do a inspection and provide us with a more detailed quote. While that quote was outside of my budget, it did seem as though James was quick to ideate a plan on how to fix everything so it would last. The damage in question was water damage to the wood in the upper cabin. Water had leaked in from a broken seal (I later fixed this). ~~ I did not end up going with this vendor to perform the work. I was very happy with Camper Keepers. James was responsive to my initial inquiries and provided follow ups as needed to replace my awning. He and Fred arrived on time and completed the install. However, a couple of small items needed replacing and James indicated he'd order those and return to install them. The following week Fred was at my trailer replacing those parts. What a great experience working with Camper Keepers. We purchased a new tow vehicle and required a hitch re-alignment. As we discussed this with my wife, we drove by a house and saw Camper Keepers working on an RV. We took down the information and called them (Saturday). They called us back and booked us on MONDAY! They were prompt and right on time, and their estimated time/price was spot on. It is $125 for the service call, and the hourly cost is at least one hour. As for work quality, our technician was ultra-thorough. He ensured he tested everything, measured twice, and even gave us some helpful tips. Calling them moving forward for all work. I took my RV to another rv repair shop, which I will not name out of courtesy, and I told them AND wrote on the work order "AC and microwave do not work off of the generator. Please make then work." When they told me the work was complete, I went to their shop, paid them, and then ran the generator. It worked. However, the ac and microwave still did not work. They told me that I told them to fix the generator. I showed the work order, which said make the ac an microwave work, NOT fix the generator. So they admitted that, by law, they had to return my money. They told me that they would have to look through the wiring in the house. In other words, the problem was that the wiring from the generator to the house must have a short. They were going to charge me hundreds more, at least. But today I called James and over the phone, James instructed me how to turn on the breaker on the generator!!!. Everything works now!!! I asked James how he knew how to help me over the phone, no less. He told me that when workers work on generators, they often turn off the breaker so as not to get a shock. Funny think is that the former rv repair shop did not figure that out. Bottom line is that James saved me hundreds of dollars and time and hassle all over the phone. I will take my rv to Camper Keepers next time it has a problem. read more

Our Forest River Sunseeker slide stopped working days before we were supposed to leave on a 3 week trip. It was stuck out at an angle so we could not retract it in order to drive for repairs. I contacted Camper Keepers Saturday, James answered the call and let me know they will come out on a Monday. They were here in the afternoon and had some challenges getting the slide in and finding a replacement controller since the old one was obsolete. James made every effort to repair our RV so we can get on the road per our planned schedule. On the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, five days before our long-planned ten week trip to Alaska, we discovered one of our bedroom slides on our Rockwood Fifth Wheel wouldn't open. I had used another "mobile RV repairman" in the past, however he did not respond. I had seen the Camper Keeper van in Camarillo, so I texted the number I found on Yelp. James called me almost immediately. We discussed the issue, and he sounded confident that he could resolve the issue prior to our scheduled departure. A day or two later, James AND Fred came to my house and dove into diagnosing the issue. The likely problem was the Lippert motor, and James found a replacement on Amazon, and assured me that once it arrived, he or Fred would install it prior to my departure on Saturday morning, three days hence. The motor arrived, but due to other commitments, Fred could not return until Saturday morning, the day I was scheduled to head North. Once he arrived, he determined that it was the WRONG MOTOR!! It would not solve the problem. Undeterred, Fred kept at it, and we discovered that the original motor worked just fine, but the problem likely originated in the control panel. We found that reversing the wiring on the motor allowed it to open and close the slide, which was a hassle on the road for the next ten weeks, but it made the room operable. We were on the road that afternoon, though hours later than we had planned. As a side note, while on the road, I had a lengthy dialog with the reps at Forest River, and they diagnosed the problem as a faulty relay board, and they mailed a replacement to my home free of charge, though I wouldn't be home for another two months. Upon our return, Fred came back to the house and swapped out the relay board. After an epic (and EVENTFUL) Alaska adventure, everything works fine. My overall opinion of Camper Keepers? VERY POSITIVE!! Mobile RV repairmen are scarce, and even fewer are reliable. Did they get the initial diagnosis right? No, but I don't fault James for that, as it was the most likely cause. Are they cheap? No, but you get what you pay for, and their rates are fair and reasonable. Will I use Camper Keepers again? Absolutely, in fact, I've already had Fred out again for another slide issue, which he quickly resolve. read more

we called camper keepers out to fix our AC, front and rear were not getting any power. fred was able to get the front one working but told us we needed parts for the back one. Fred was extremely slow, he couldn't get to the fuse box and when he finally did he was shoving them in, bending the fuses. when he put the AC cover on her broke it. we ordered the parts he told us to get but they ended up being completely wrong. we spoke with James and the owner. he offered to come install it at no cost (we already paid there over $300). after he installed it it was still not working. he was very irritated and told us he doesn't have time to figure out why. he said he could come back to figure it out for his hourly rate. we were obviously upset. we just had another company come out. Bill from Safe Travels RV services fixed it in 30 minute. James connected the wires wrong and didn't connect others. I really hope James didn't not connect it properly on purpose but you never know. read more

Fixed my skylight on my RV, i cracked the UCV cover accidentally. I was unable to do the work myself due to time and needed it done before raines so hired him, Was efficient and quick with the repair. Price felt a bit steep as I found the part myself online after his install for half what I was charged for it or he would be 5 stars. I got on yelp to get a price to have two fans replaced in my toy hauler. James replied in a timely manner. He gave me a price. I asked if they would do it for $500. He stated yes. So we scheduled to have it done. After the work was done I got a bill for $725. I told the installer about my agreement with James. He called James and James stated that it took longer. So I asked him about our agreement. He stated it didn't matter. I asked him what was the value of his word. He stated again it didn't matter. I asked him about splitting the difference. It was a little pricey at $125 service charge, $150/hr labor, but he also came to me. My slider would not retract, so I could not drive the unit. He checked out the power and we retracted it. We looked at it together and we discovered the floor appeared to have water damage and the bolts were loose causing the slider motor to bind. This showed me how to fix it myself with iron bracing and I retightened all the support bolts and now it is working well. Regardless it is fixed. I would suggest the service charge be waived if you are charged for the hour. However, I am happy. read more

I should have known better when he could not provide an estimate. Just quoted $100 an hour. So if he sucks and drags his feet he earns more. The job was to replace an awning on my travel trailer. I had hit another awning backing it up, so to get it home removed one arm and the awning tube. I provided all the parts minus the larger lag screws. He was aware of this prior to showing up. The day he was supposed to show, he canceled because his assistant had car problems. Ok, I can keep the trailer another night in my neighborhood. No biggie. He shows up the next day at 10:00 and goes over the job for nearly two hours and ends up going to Home Depot for the larger screws I told him he needed. He finally gets started around 1315. He installs the awning and on his operational test, retracts the awning to the point it locks up and is blowing fuses. He has to take an arm off now to unlock and redo half the job. Then that did not fully fix the problem because he shorted a wire when he drove a lag screw into the awning power wire. Now it's about 5:30 pm and he is finally done. He tells me $850 with service charge that was never quoted. My left arm had to be installed 3" down because he had to remove it again to get fresh wood. I have an open hole on the trailer that he just squirted silicone in. I also have a screw on the left arm that freely spins and will not tighten. I am sure he could wash an RV fine, but to perform repairs I would not recommend him. He drags his feet and makes numerous mistakes. All of this is on my house camera system too. It was painful to watch. I wanted to add this is my first review ever on Yelp, Amazon, or anywhere. This is how passionate I feel about his work. read more

James and Fred are awesome humans who went over and beyond to help me while on vacation for Spring Break. Our first night at the RV Ventura Park I left our awning out as there was no rain or wind in the forecast; yeah well earlier in the morning we had a down pour and at 5:30 am a loud and hard jolt shot us out of bed thinking earthquake... NOPE... collapsed awning. Camper Keepers responded within 20 minutes of my inquiry to their services. Had Fred out by 11:00 am. Fred took off my awning and disposed of it. Then managed to find a way to order another awning that would arrive and be installed prior to us heading home from our trip. What impressed me more than all this is the company that made the awning did not get it done when stated, but James went out of his way, drove to San Diego at 4 in the morning and met Fred at our campground by 2 and had the awning installed and in operation by 5:30 pm.
