I come down from Ventura to see "Shady", and his name couldn't be more ironic, because there's nothing shady about him or his work. He's been maintaining my 2005 Lexus SC430 and has saved me a boatload of money on repairs and maintenance over the years. He's respectful, friendly, and clearly takes pride in getting things right. My most recent service made the car run like it did when it was new. The engine is humming smoothly again, something I've honestly NEVER experienced after a repair or routine maintenance anywhere else and I've owned this car since 2007. And while the name S & M Automotive might make some people do a double take (hahaha), the only thing painful here is realizing how unnecessary other repair bills can be once you find a mechanic this good and dependable. (This posting is an update on a prior post). Kane, I just…read morereturned from a four-day trip to Fresno. On my return home on the I-5 climbing the Grapevine there was a two-vehicle collision. One of the vehicles was flipped onto its roof. There was an injured person being attended to on the shoulder of the road. So we had to slow down from the posted 65 MPH speed limit to bumper to bumper traffic. My new brakes and rotors performed extremely well. Afterwards, just prior to the descent on the I-5 into Castaic there was a big rig accident that forced Cal Trans to merge four traffic lanes to one traffic lane. A constant stop and go for 40 minutes. Finally, I was on the 126 approaching Fillmore when the upcoming traffic light changed to yellow. I was in "No Mans Land", I needed to make a split decision. Do I press down hard on the gas pedal and attempt to beat the red traffic light and risk seeing flashing blue lights from the CHP officer waiting at the intersection or do I brake and hopefully don't end up in the middle of the intersection causing an accident. I chose the latter. My new front brake pads and high performance rotors grabbed and I was able to stop behind the crossing. No skidding, no screeching tires, just a quiet smooth stop on a dime. As the CHP officer drove through the intersection, as he completed a left turn onto the Eastbound 126 he gave me a nod. A nod of approval. Then the driver to my right gave me a thumbs up. The "power stop system" you and Robert installed on my Tacoma performed exceptional! I can't express my overwhelming gratitude. Honestly, zero stars…read more I originally made this appointment thinking this was America's Tire, and boy was I wrong. When I called to schedule my tire replacement, I was told they would also perform their free alignment check. Robert specifically told me that if they found any misalignment, they would contact me for approval before performing any additional work. I dropped off my car, provided my contact information, and never received a call or text until I was told my car was ready. At checkout, Robert was extremely attentive and spent a lot of time discussing their new phone system, pointing out various things on my paperwork, and mentioning that he had "added" a roadside warranty for me--without ever mentioning that it cost $25 PER TIRE. He then folded and paper-clipped my paperwork before handing it to me, so I never saw the actual breakdown of charges at the counter. Once I got home and looked through everything, I realized I had been charged $100 for roadside warranties I never agreed to AND $125 for an alignment I was never contacted about or gave permission to perform. What is especially concerning is that my paperwork states "customer approved" for the alignment. I did not approve it. I received no phone call or text asking for authorization, despite being specifically told beforehand that they would contact me before doing any additional work. Yes, they offered a buy 3, get 1 free tire promotion, but adding $225 in services/products without clearly obtaining my consent completely negated any positive experience I might have had. To make matters worse, my steering now feels off after the alignment, so I will be having the alignment checked by another shop. I also plan to take my tires to America's Tire for future service/warranty needs and will be filing a complaint with the BBB regarding the unauthorized charges and the documentation stating that I approved work that I did not approve. I would strongly recommend reviewing every single charge before leaving this business and getting any authorization for additional work documented in writing.
