I was told by Firestone my rear brakes and rotors needed to be replaced at the tune of $700. I was skeptical and called S&M for a quote. They gave me a rough estimate of $450 and told me to bring in the car the next day, because it was likely I didn't need the repair. Sure enough, when I took it to S&M, they said I could wait to replace the rear brakes. I trust S&M and Shady. I will definitely continue to take my car to them.

I go and my parents tell me to go to Pete. Pete however said he isn't the best with Volkswagens so he recommended me to go down to the end to Kane. I told him the full story and so he plugged the car in to figure out everything that was going wrong with the car. After this he gave me his best recommendations for my next steps. He gave very clear and quick communication to me. He was extremely willing to help with my situation so we scheduled another visit for a deeper inspection. He did an incredible job on the inspection. (This posting is an update on a prior post). Kane, I just…read morereturned from a four-day trip to Fresno. On my return home on the I-5 climbing the Grapevine there was a two-vehicle collision. One of the vehicles was flipped onto its roof. There was an injured person being attended to on the shoulder of the road. So we had to slow down from the posted 65 MPH speed limit to bumper to bumper traffic. My new brakes and rotors performed extremely well. Afterwards, just prior to the descent on the I-5 into Castaic there was a big rig accident that forced Cal Trans to merge four traffic lanes to one traffic lane. A constant stop and go for 40 minutes. Finally, I was on the 126 approaching Fillmore when the upcoming traffic light changed to yellow. I was in "No Mans Land", I needed to make a split decision. Do I press down hard on the gas pedal and attempt to beat the red traffic light and risk seeing flashing blue lights from the CHP officer waiting at the intersection or do I brake and hopefully don't end up in the middle of the intersection causing an accident. I chose the latter. My new front brake pads and high performance rotors grabbed and I was able to stop behind the crossing. No skidding, no screeching tires, just a quiet smooth stop on a dime. As the CHP officer drove through the intersection, as he completed a left turn onto the Eastbound 126 he gave me a nod. A nod of approval. Then the driver to my right gave me a thumbs up. The "power stop system" you and Robert installed on my Tacoma performed exceptional! I can't express my overwhelming gratitude. 1 STAR -- Avoid This Location…read more Absolutely terrible experience at America's Tire in Thousand Oaks. I was told I could come in as a walk-in and, yes, I understood I would have to wait. That was never the issue. I was specifically told the worst-case wait would be about an hour and a half. I accepted that, waited the full 90 minutes, and came back expecting my car to at least be in the process of being serviced. It wasn't. They hadn't even touched my car. I had now wasted an hour and a half based on information their employee gave me, and apparently nobody thought it was necessary to communicate that the estimate was completely wrong. It wasn't until I complained that they finally took my car in. And then I was told to expect another 30 minutes to an hour or potentially longer. This isn't what being busy looks like. This is bad management and terrible customer communication. If your shop is backed up, say so. If the wait is three hours, tell the customer three hours. Don't give someone a 90-minute estimate, let them sit there for 90 minutes, and then reveal that their car hasn't even been touched. The worst part is that nobody seemed to take ownership of the situation. No proactive communication. No reasonable explanation. Just wasted time and excuses after the fact. Do yourself a favor and go to another Tire location store. There are plenty of locations where you can spend your money without having your time completely disregarded. Management at this Thousand Oaks location needs to take a serious look at how this shop is being run. Customers shouldn't have to complain just to get their vehicle into the service queue. One star. I would give zero if Yelp allowed it.
