I have used budget muffler for repairs on two separate occasions. They have always gotten me right into the garage and taking care of my vehicle in about an hour. Their prices are more than fair and the staff is friendly and helpful. If you're looking for the best muffler shop in Kansas City and Independence you just found it. read more

TLDR: 9/8/25 PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. The owner and employees are VERY talented scammers. Note how the owner "shouts down" the negative reviews on Yelp-- even though they all say the same thing! He keeps bragging about 50 years of experience. Uhmmm-- it's a MUFFLER... I know other muffler techs who have done it for 2 years and are experts. This is a stock truck with a stock replacement. For 50 years of experience, I would think that he would have been able to correctly answer my simple question about exhaust scavenging... I was quoted work about $400 on the phone. When I got there, even though the situation was EXACTLY what I clearly emphasized over the phone, the bid went up to $600. They were slow. They also welded the bolts on my catalytic converter. This is not factory, and does nothing for theft prevention. It does, however, complicate any service that requires exhaust removal. I'll have to do it over myself. I also had to repair their work and relieve the pressure on an exhaust pipe. Then they tried to sell me TWO NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTERS! They told me that it was URGENT. I questioned this and was immediately shouted down by the owner. I questioned this because my oxygen sensor readings did not indicate "severely clogged", as I was told. I went home and ran extensive O2 sensor diagnostics and found nothing wrong. I then ran back-pressure tests, AND CFM and temperature checks, AND emissions tests, which were ALL good. Also, there were no performance or mileage issues, nor any abnormal smell coming from the exhaust (all of which is common with a clogged catalytic). I then even ran a trusted catalytic cleaner, TWICE, at elevated RPM's. No difference noticed. They LIED. Period. They knew that I just put a new engine in, and were trying to scare me into spending the extra $800. Pathetic. Gil. 816-200-4500 read more

Was referred to Budget to get a back pressure test instead of doing the check all they did was write up a quote in writing for a grand total $1,050.00 worth of work they never even looked at my vehicle I sat in it in the parking lot while my husband went inside to inquire even if they are able to spot the issue because they see it on a lot of same model vehicles as mine at least pull it in and take a look so for that reason alone i cannot trust you Budget bye will take my business elsewhere read more

Excellent service on 7/25/25. I'm happy with the work done on my 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo after receiving poor service from Calvert's Express in Raytown which to my surprise fabricated a weld on a simple muffler hanger that failed in 2 hours. After jacking up the car and checking the Calvert's repair I noticed the broken rubber insulator was still on the underside hook attached to the body of the car. Thank you Dustin for showing me your work done right and Benjamin for having a professional shop like Budget Muffler of Independence. read more

I was told by a fellow 11B I could trust Benny at Budget Muffler (he's a veteran too), so I brought him my Escalade. I knew exactly what i wanted my 6.2 to sound like after a million YT videos. Brand "X", Deep, tough, not obnoxious NO droning. Benny (owner since mid 80's or so) SOLD me exactly what I needed Brand "A". "Okay, Someone I trust told me I can trust you Benny so go for it". While his guys were working on it I OFFERED to pay but Benny would NOT take a dime from me until I heard it. What I heard 45 min later when they backed it out was BADASS! DEEP, TOUGH, NOT OBOXIOUS, NO DRONING with a 3yr warranty. I couldn't pay fast enough! His technicians (all over 40) NAILED it! Thank you Budget Muffler! Most sincerely, Justin S. read more

Very friendly and awesome customer service. Took my subaru in to get it looked at and it was very affordable. Subaru dealership of olathe was quoting me at 2888.00 for a repair. This is the worst muffler shop in the city! The owner has a horrible attitude and is belittling and then tries to rip you off! I needed work on my muffler and he wanted to charge me $910! I may be a woman, however I'm not an idiot! I went down the road to JJ Mufflers and got my muffler fixed for less than $200! Don't waste your hard-earned time and money at this horrible business! I wish I did not have to even give it one star because it does not deserve it! read more

Just had a great experience at Budget Muffler. I walked in with no appointment to replace my stolen catalytic converter and to get a vehicle inspection. I was out of there within an hour for a great price. I will definitely recommend them to others. read more

My wife's car wouldn't pass the safety inspection because of a minor exhaust leak. She was told she'd have to take it to the dealer, and it was a big job because they'd have to pull the engine all the way out. The dealer said it would be a couple of weeks before they could get it in, but to try this place. They had it fixed later that day, and said there was no charge because all he had to do was tighten a couple of bolts. It passed inspection the next day. Probably didn't hurt that my wife and the owner both spoke Russian, and my wife is hot, too! read more

Fixed my exhaust leak for around $100 bucks. For small projects, this is the place to go. Benny and Alan are awesome!

They were recommended by family member. Did not disappoint. What was a muffler job to pass inspection, was fixed with a flange repair that cost 10% of what the other shop quoted. Fast and knowledgable, I was in and out 15 minutes and very friendly even during a pandemic. read more

We had a truck that got the catalytic converter stolen earlier this year, and he took care of it easily in an hour. We had some problems that were exhaust related and a local dealer quoted over $1,500 to replace the catalytic converter on a Buick Rendezvous, and Budget did the job with a high quality converter for $300. (Saved us $1,200). If you need ANY exhaust work, go here for awesome service and true diagnostic testing. You will not be disappointed. This also only took about 1.5 hours for the diagnostic and replacement. WOOOHOOO. read more

Amazing service and low prices. They always take care of my exhaust needs and I am always pleased with the price. Today they put a muffler on my f150 for only $50 higher than what it would have cost to do it myself and only about a half hour service time. They found another weak area in a joint while under the car and spot welded it for free. I trust them and will return with any other exhaust needs I have in the future. read more

Can't believe I am old enough to say it but I have been coming to Ben and his guy for 30 plus years also and always happy with the work and the pricing. I am bringing my new (used) car to them Wednesday to replace the muffler! read more

Got me right in replaced my muffler in 15 minutes! Was very quick and informative! Check them out!!!!!

Yay for Budget Muffler. Took the Hubby's car to Perkins automotive in Brookside last week and they wanted 285.00 to fix the problem. So we took the advise of a guy who works with my husband to give this place a go. Sooooooo glad we did. Budget is exactly what we needed. Only 80 to fix his car compared to what we were quoted at Perkins. Perkins can go you know where! From now on all our muffler needs will be taken to Budget! read more

I have been using Budget Muffler for almost 30 years. The guy that owns the place stands behind his work, and will go above and beyond to take care of his customers. read more

Budget Muffler in Independence is the best, I've been going their for years and they do quality work at a great price!

I have taken my cars here for a very long time and never had a problem until this past September. My car had a small exhaust leak behind the resonator. I hoped it could be patched but was told it needed a new resonator installed for $78. After the repair I was told I now needed a new catalytic converter because it had a terrible leak. Replacement would be over $700! I said,"No" and drove away. My car was much louder on the drive home and when I ordered the part online and installed it myself I found that the imbecile who worked on my car had evidently torn the flex joint on the catalytic converter pipe and had the exhaust pipe at the rear up against the floor pan. But how could I prove to them that they had caused the damage? I'll never return there for any repairs. I'll just do it myself. read more

If you need muffler or exhaust work done on your vehicle, this is the place to go! We expected to spend $350+ to replace our muffler, but they fixed our issue without having to replace it for way less than we ever thought would happen! It was super fast too! Great owner and great work by staff! We appreciate their work! read more

Called got in the same day, in and out quickly. The manager showed where improper repairs had been made previously and explained what it would take to correct both the original defect and the wrong repairs, and also gave me a break on the labor account all the work that had to be done. I was extremely satisfied with my experience, definitely would recommend them and I for sure would go back. Very impressed with the manager, he truly seems genuine and cares about his employees, and his customers. read more

I will never go back. Took two trucks to them for exhaust leaks, now BOTH of them have something rattling around in the muffler and it looks like they gave a welder to a three year-old read more
