took my car in for a vibration issue at high speeds. they told me it was my tires spent $500 on tires. Still had the vibration issue. Took it back now they tell me it's my axle and another 3 or 4 hundred dollars. they refused to make it right and even referred my to another shop to look at it. I'd give this business 100 stars if I could. We've been using Family Wrench for Almost 20 years now and I won't take my car to anyone else. This is a wonderful family owned and run business. We've found this repair shop to be the most honest, reliable and trustworthy auto repair shop in the Kansas City area hands down! Years ago my sister who was single and on a tight budget, took her little old car to Family Wrench and told them what the car was doing, and that it wasn't running properly. Based on her description they told her what they thought might be wrong with her vehicle and that it most likely would cost her in the upper $300's to $400 range for repair. So she left the car and asked them to go ahead and fix it. They called her when the car repair was finished to pick it up, and when she arrived the lady at the front desk told her the repair was only $79. My sister, who was expecting to pay about $400 for the repair ask her why it was only $79? So the mechanic came in and spoke with my sister... He told her that once they started working on it, they discovered what they thought was the issue, was actually something entirely different, and turned out to be just a minor repair; therefore he only charged her $79 which included the parts and labor, for the work they completed instead of the originally quoted amount of $379 or more. That's just unheard of!!! She was so happy! I can't imagine any other auto repair shop being so honest with their customers; Because as you know they could very well have fixed the car and still charged her the higher amount, and she never would have known different. But Family Wrench is different... they are honest and trustworthy and continue to earn our family's trust, respect, and loyalty. I refer everyone that I possibly can to Family Wrench for auto repairs. Over the years I too have experienced similar situations with them. A without fail they have ALWAYS been above reproach. I once bought my husband a used PT Cruiser to drive back-and-forth to work. One day the battery quit and left him stranded, or so we thought, and replaced the battery. But the car still wouldn't start very well and didn't want to stay running when we did manage to get it started. We tried replacing a few minor parts to no avail, and still didn't know what was wrong with it. So we limped it up to Dave's automotive repair in Blue Springs because they were the closest repeat shop to where we live. They had it a couple days, broke off a spark plug in the motor, told us we needed all new plugs and plug wires, a tune up, and extra money to bore out the broken plug they left in the motor, and then proceeded to charge us a crazy amount of money just for the diagnosis they already did. To do all the work they said it needed, they wanted to charge us another exorbitant amount of money! We couldn't afford to have it fixed right then. After some consideration, I decided to have it towed to Family Wrench. They even suggested that they will come out and tow it to their shop and get to it as soon as they could. After a couple days, we got a call from the owner saying that he found the issue and that it'll be ready to pick up. He said there wasn't anything wrong with the car after all. (Except he did pull the broken plug out for us and replace it with a new one). He told us that PT Cruisers don't like to lose battery power and when they do, the computer has to re-learn/re-program itself all over again, and that takes time and finesse to accomplish. You have to keep starting it and letting it run a while, and then you have to drive it around the block a few times until it starts right up and runs without issues. So, he asked to keep it one more day to drive it around the block a few more times to make sure it was solid and wouldn't leave us stranded again. When we went to pick it up he only charged us a VERY minimum fee for the tow and nothing else. Again, if you're looking for a GOOD, KNOWLEDGEABLE, FAIR, AND HONEST auto repair shop, look no further... you've found the BEST ONE!!! Plus, they have a comfortable, neat and clean waiting area with fresh coffee and water to drink if you are going to stay there and wait a little while. I HIGHLY recommend!!! read more

I took my car to Family Wrench, after hearing about them through Yelp. They were extremely busy...busy is a good thing for a mechanic, right? I also had them do my inspection and oil change. They did the oil change and inspection. But they had a problem trying to diagnose my air conditioner problem. They were honest and polite about it. They called me, and said they'd have to take apart the dash to find out what's exactly wrong, and didn't want to do it without my permission. Also they said they were concerned cause I'd be without a car, and they'd not be able to get to it atleast till Monday. I felt concern and compassion from them. I decided to pick the car up, and allow Honda to fix it. Honda will charge 3/4's of my paycheck or more. Family Wrench said there might be a parts problem, and they were concerned I'd have to wait even longer for my car if they started it. I've had mechanics not be honest before. So this was impressive. They did check my fuses, and all of my wiring, without charging me. They are a very busy mechanic, and I'd have ABSOLUTELY no qualms about taking my car there and allowing them to fix it. They are on 23rd street near Mugs Up Rootbeer. They have a comfortable waiting area, with wifi, and coffee. They are the most friendly and compassionate car mechanic I've ever ran into. For small repairs, or oil changes or inspections, I will certainly use them .I've been wanting a mechanic I trust, and I found it. Even though I chose to go the route I did, I feel strongly about having no issues with them whatsoever. read more

I have taken my family cars to Ed, Aaron and the mechanics at Family Wrench for many years. The operative word there is "FAMILY." I found them when a friend of one of my daughters mentioned that they knew a honest mechanic who did had just started his own business. I had been through a string of other local mechanics who would mention something needed to be repaired or replaced when I fortunately knew better. I took my broken vehicle to Family Wrench and have never looked back! I have always been treated fairly and felt that any recommended repairs were performed expertly and economically. Reasonable prices and the staff is very polite and straightforward. They don't pad prices, so you can trust them at their word.

We have been taking our vehicles to Family Wrench for several years. They are an exceptional business. They explain things well, are honest, friendly and charge fair prices. We recently took a vehicle in thinking it needed a tune up. We were told that our vehicle was fine and wasn't in need of a tune up. Compare that with so many mechanics that 'find' additional things that need fixing when you take your vehicle in for something. Highly recommended! read more

Can't say enough good things about this family owned business! Ed diagnosed a vacuum leak in about 30 seconds that 3 other mechanics simply could not figure out. He is so knowledgeable. I was truly amazed by the superior service at a low low price. Finally I have found a fantastic honest mechanic with very reasonable prices.
