I am so upset with the type of service they provided. Customer service was sarcastic! I rented a mini van for the price that we got, we taught it was a rip of. I just have to give this Budget office credit for finding, and returning to me, cash and my lost driver's license that I didn't even know was in the car. They followed me immediately to the airport where I was processing my departure back to California and returned the cash and license to me with a smile and thank you. I was stupendously flabbergasted. I will ALWAYS remember this crew's honesty and sensitivity to me as an unknown visitor. Incredible. read more

Dishonest service representative at car pickup. Grossly overcharge. The Budget agent at pickup tried to sell us a full tank of gas up front for $89 for a Nissan Altima. We questioned the charge, and she tried to convince us the Altima has a 20-gallon tank. She made several attempts to intimidate us into buying the "full tank" from her, based on her claims of more expensive gas at outside gas stations on the island etc. We politely declined, and ended up filling the tank at the end of the trip at an outside station for about $40, with 12 gallons not 20. She lied directly to our faces. Budget also charged us $80 for an infant car seat that had already been paid for with the Expedia reservation we had made online earlier. Budget refused to honor the earlier charge, and charged us twice for the car seat. The company is either deceitful or maliciously overcharging. read more

Three big problems with this place. 1. I made my reservation online and was quoted $285 with some change, and the added statement that there might be only a few extras either way! When we got there, it is $469!!! 2. On the website, booster seats are free, no added charge. I thought "How convenient." So we left our daughters booster behind. We get there and now it is $65 a week to rent one, plus they required my 6yr. old who is 4ft. tall to have one too, where in CA she is out of a booster seat! Another $65. 3. Since I had made the reservation for our family, I wanted to make sure that both my husband & I would be able to drive. First thing I said after giving my reservation number, "I want to make sure that we can both drive." My clerks response, " Are you married?!?! Only your spouse can drive with you!" I responded that we were, she said, "Oh, I need to see ID." We are an mixed couple, my husband is Chinese and I am very white! It just felt so demeaning! After getting our key, we wandered the lot for awhile looking for the car in the high noon sun with kids!!! No one helped us find it! Horrible!!! This was my second time renting in Hawaii and last time I used Enterprise, their service was a 1,000 times BETTER!! They gave me water while they processed my reservation, walked me to the car, made sure I knew how to turn everything on! BUDGET......NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

Fisrtly, the service we received from this Budget location was good. We had a prepaid reservation through Priceline, had no problems picking up or returning the car and the car itself was clean and worked well. Unfortunately, there were fraudulent charges on the credit card we gave for incidentals when we picked up the car. I got a call the next day that somebody was attempting to buy an airplane ticket with my name and phone number, but the card number didn't match any of my cards. A few days later we realized it was my wife's card - it was denied at a gas station and later she got a call from the bank about more fraudulent charges. So my wife's card was stolen, but the attempted use was with my name and phone number. This is not a joint account and the only place those pieces of information were used together was at the Budget counter at Honolulu airport. (The original reservation was in my name and paid by me, but my wife was the driver and we gave her card for incidentals.) So the card info was stolen from or sold by somebody at Budget. read more

Watch out for the scam that Budget has going on. Adding on a $279 loss damage waiver without our knowledge. When asked at the time, the agent behind the counter told us it would be taken off at the end in case of damages. Of course, it didn't come off, and when we called to complain, the customer service agent repeatedly said, "You signed it." That was their only defense of agents that mislead customers. We're wondering if agents get a commission for getting people to add on these waivers. I've lost my faith in the integrity of this company. read more

Zero stars! Do not rent from this company. We rented a car and the tire went flat. I changed the tire, just what I wanted to do on vacation, and brought it back for an exchange on another car. After returning home one month later I got a bill from Budget charging me for the tire, a towing cost (that never happened) and a $25 "administrative fee". They claim that a tire is not covered in the normal wear and tear of the car. What a scam. If I could give no stars I would. Will never rent with Budget again! You get what the name implies, poor service and customer service. read more

Waited in line for over an hour for agents to repeatedly duck into the back and not return. Line had well over 50 people waiting for over an hour. Budget should have anticipated the rush of people and had more workers available. Totally unacceptable! Last time I ever rent from these fools! read more

Employees at waiting area sucks. Very rude and they don't welcome any visitors at all. They ruin my day.

We got charged afterwards with a insurance fee although we explicit said we don't want an additional insurance we have to pay for. So the "Budget"-Price was 50% higher at the end. The waiting time at the counter was about 3h although we hat an online reservation. read more

We got a rental and our tires were flattened. They then gave us a new car but our luggage got locked in the trunk. We could not our luggage out of the car. We almost missed our flight back home while trying to retrieve the luggage. Had to fly home without all of gifts we bought on on the Island... I am still waiting to see if they will return all of our stuff.. read more

Let me first start out by saying after reading reviews about Budget before our trip I was setting my expectations up for either 1) a verbal confrontation with the employees here 2) disappointment on the car I reserved or 3) a terribly long wait. I must admit I went it with low expectation so that is probably why I rated them a little bit high because other than a little bit of wait time the employees were nice, helpful and the car we got exceeded our expectations (even if the truck release on the remote didn't work). For the price, I would definitely rent from Budget again when we come back. That being said, I will probably still have reservations about the next experience until I see that they have raised the bar for all customers (ie Yelpers). read more

Worst service ever. The line to wait in the kiosk was not bad but I had a reservation to pick up my car at 12:30. Due to delays, we arrived to the car rental area around 12:45. After waiting in line, we finally got to parking structure to pick up the car around 1:40.l and the car we rented was still not ready. When I asked the employee working in the parking structure where my car was, all she said was that "They may be already bringing it up soon" and was not given a definite answer. The flight from Kauai to Honolulu was quicker than the service received from this Budget car rental service. Terrible start to my vacation here in Honolulu. read more

We rented from Budget LGA. Neither the agent nor the contract stated that the office did not open until 0600. We had an 0700 flight. When I checked the website to confirm they would be open, I found the 0600 opening time. The next question was how to get the shuttle to take us from the Budget office to the bus stop for the shuttle to the terminal. I called and was advised that there was no shuttle until 0600 so I arranged a taxi to meet us at the Budget site, and planned to park the car in the lot and drop the contract into the night slot. We arrived at 0445 to find the lot locked up tight. There was a lone employee in the Budget exit booth who yelled "Go to Avis", so we did. We were able to return the car at Avis to one of the more sullen employees in recent memory. Our taxi driver had followed us and took us to the terminal. The out of pocket for the taxi was $55.00 plus tip. This encounter with Budget is a strong indicator NEVER to choose them for car rental again. read more

Terrible experience. Waited over an hour in line for the rental. When I asked what the issue was I was told they were short handed with extreme lack of concern. I would seriously think twice about renting from this place. $13 fee for additional driver per day with no max amount. Also, per budget's customer service hotline, the employees are not instructed to inform the customer of these charges, only if they "ask what the fee is". read more

I needed to exchange the mustang convertible for something higher off the ground. The process was super easy with the staff having much Aloha. Ended up with nice upgrade of a BMW X5. Donald, the employee who checked me in/rented me the vehicle, was adamant that I was NOT allowed to use my own personal auto insurance to cover the rental. I told him that I've always used my own auto insurance, with every rental company I've ever rented a car from. He told me that's not possible, that they've never accepted personal auto policies, and that I could either rent this car and be fully responsible for any damages, or I could buy their insurance for $30 something a day (for 4 days). I honestly did not have the extra $120 laying around at the time because it was not included in the quote to me when I originally made the booking. I had to pay for it with a credit card and now I have to work extra to pay off the extra costs, that I felt completely scammed into paying. I also felt A LOT of hostile attitude, aggression, and annoyance from him. He did not try to hide his emotions at all, and he made me feel worthless as a customer. He was incredibly rude to me. I had just gotten in from a long day of travel, and to be accosted like that while just trying to get a rental car was unacceptable. I do not ever want to rent from Budget again if that is the kind of person they have working their customer service desk. read more

Very inefficient and prepare to wait in line for at least 30 minutes even if you've already paid online. Remember to give more time when returning the vehicle. Waiting under Hawaiian sun for 15 minutes is normal. Will never do business with them, esp the one in Honolulu airport. read more

2 HOURS to rent a car. Stay away! Get a lift to another company, or even the Budget up on Kalakaua. Every afternoon, people drop off their cars, and the arriving people rent them. *Every* afternoon. You'd think they'd have this down by now, or have an expedited process for reservations. It took 1 HOUR just to do the paperwork, then they had some crazy random process for washing the incoming cars. We didn't see our car for ANOTHER HOUR. Some people we talked to missed luau's that they'd reserved (I hope not paid for.) read more

I always reserve an economy car to get the best rate and then upgrade at the counter if they have anything I like. I was in luck as they had an "extra" Chevy Equinox LTZ which I was able to upgrade to for a reasonable amount. There was only a couple people in line and the agents at the counter were friendly and efficient. They even signed me up for "Fastbreak" so I can skip the line if there is one next time I rent. The return process was as simple as it gets! I would definitely use Budget rent a car at the Honolulu airport again. read more

Very good customer service. When I rented a convertible Camaro, I decided that a 5.0 Mustang GT would be a nice thing to try out, but they were out of them. The next day they arranged a vehicle transfer at no cost to get me in the vehicle I wanted. I really appreciated this as I paid a premium for the convertible for that week. read more

Wow. Dysfunction and apathy have new envoys. One hour in line during phase one, and we had a reservation. 12 minutes at the counter. Again, with a reservation. Phase two took us up to the 4th floor, where a fresh hell (nay purgatory, because hell is too definitive) of waiting imprisoned us. Over 20 minutes and counting. Most are waiting at least an hour in the second area. And, by the way, the line had nearly doubled before we left the first floor. I would suggest process improvement, but wouldn't you need a functional process in place to improve. Avoid this agency at all costs!! read more
