BEWARE!!! Driver beware when using Hui in Hawaii. Today, Oahu was under an extreme flash flood warning and Route 83 was completely shut down in both directions by the Honolulu Police Department due to unsafe conditions. We sat in standstill traffic for nearly two hours before officers forced everyone to turn around. We then had to drive completely around the island, sitting in another several hours of traffic just trying to safely get back to Waikiki. I contacted Hui immediately to explain the situation and ask for flexibility on our return time since this was clearly an emergency situation and completely outside of our control. After waiting on hold for 45 minutes to finally reach an agent, I was told that even a police-mandated road closure and severe flash flooding "is not their problem" and that I would still be charged additional fees if the car was returned late. Let that sink in. An active natural disaster, closed highways, and police forcing drivers to turn around apparently do not qualify for any level of customer accommodation. The lack of empathy and customer service was honestly shocking. Emergencies happen, especially in Hawaii where weather and road closures can change rapidly. Most reasonable companies understand that safety should come first. Hui apparently does not. If you choose to use this service while visiting Hawaii, just understand that if an act of God happens, you may still be fully on the hook financially no matter the circumstances. read more

Once the conference was over that my friends and I were attending, we wanted to be able to explore the island. Our hotel's concierge suggested Hui since multiple ride shares didn't seem feasible and their 9-hour island tour (~$180pp) was a little expensive for what we wished to do. The app was fairly easy to setup - you have to input your driver license/background check info before getting approved to drive (can take up to 24 hours for review). There are a lot of options scattered throughout Honolulu, including a couple parked at our hotel's garage. All of the vehicles are Toyotas. It was fairly affordable for the 4 of us, especially after being texted a coupon for the first ride. Why HUI was easy: I got approved pretty quickly so I was able to reserve an SUV (a RAV4) within an hour of approval for our excursion. Wasn't hard to find the vehicle in the garage and read thru the FAQ beforehand. They provide a debit card to fill up the vehicle & it's keyless entry. The RAV4 was smooth and easy to drive since I already have an SUV at home. The most difficult things were the people who reserved before us didn't take care of the vehicle - they left sand in the front mats and didn't fill up the tank before dropping off. The automatic driving sensors were off too - I gave plenty of space (2-3 car lengths) and it would still scream "TAILGATING", similarly a couple times driving back into the city the speed limit changed 3-4x within a short distance so I couldn't have enough time to slow down yet it still yelled "SPEED VIOLATION". I used their service on two separate occasions. The first wasn't horrible. I found the car fast, by accident. The car was in good condition and fully fueled. First issue was with the car talking at me. It would say "speeding violation" when I went two miles over the speed limit. I called customer support and asked why it was talking at me. They explained that I would not be charged extra or reported. The car was just trying to keep me safe by letting me know what I was doing wrong. So I tested it. If I was in a higher speed limit area like the highway, it would alert me when I was barely going over the speed limit. If I was going 40+ in a 25, no alert. The glare off my glasses would freak the camera watching out and tell me I was distracted, even when looking straight ahead. Somehow no one thought about how distracting it is to be told you're doing something wrong over and over again when you're in the flow of traffic or dealing with heavy traffic. Seeing that distracted drivers are the cause of many accidents it's wild that this feature is thought to be a good idea. The second time I used the service was far worse. I did the same thing I did before based on the texts and emails. I didn't find the car as easy because the txts and emails never told me exactly where the car was nor did they say make sure to look in the app for detailed locations. Took me awhile to figure out I was the idiot and their over abundance of messages weren't designed to help me just to distract me. The car had two dents and scrapes on either side of the front bumper. In trying to notate this damage they only allow you to upload two pictures even those they ask for four pictures, two for each damaged areas. And they don't allow you to catalog them as both dents and scrapes you have to pic one or the other. From a legal standpoint if you are going to differentiate those two types of damage then they should allow us to notate all issues not just one or the other. Once driving this car's camera was placed on the windshield conveniently so that it would mess with your sight lines and ability to reach some signs. This cars alert system was far more sensitive and inconsistent than the first car. I'd had between 3-5 car lengths between me and the car in front of me and no one behind and the car would tell me that I was tailgating. Then I might have no one in front of me and someone would get behind me and it would say tailgating. When parking it would tell me I was distracted. And in the flow of traffic it would say speed violation over and over again. I reserved the car till 2p. More than enough time under normal conditions. Knowing I could always extend it. Turns out they don't tell you if anyone has it reserved after you and it won't let you extend it in that event. We got caught on the north shore with no service and crazy traffic because of a surf competition that day. By the time we had service we could not extend a they told us we'd be charged a lot more if the people next tried to start their reservation before we got back. Telling me I had to get to the Waikiki in less than an hour. But to drive safe. Which I said pick one because I can't do both. Multiple messages should have been send via sms, which I can get via satellite even with no service, that the car was booked immediately after my reservation. The most obnoxious issue to me was the car had on a low tire light. The tires looked fine but the car didn't have a tire gauge to check. I called in to ask if they wanted me to take the car to get serviced or if this was any kind of an issue. They said it was up to me and if I wanted to take it to a gas station it was my call. I did go to a gas station and their machine was broken. I drove over a mile to get there. The car seemed okay and since they clearly didn't care for the car or my safety I decided it was up to me and drove off to my appointment. Having the skills to drive a car with a blowout in the worse case made me feel like I could take the risk. Would I want my family or friends to take that risk, NO. The fact that they didn't care or know why to do I find appalling. This company needs to take what I said here constructively and fix their issues. Or they need to go out of business before they kill someone. read more

Everything went really well until I drove away and the nanny system started screaming at me every time I looked for an address to see where I was going... and it screamed at me verbally that I wasn't paying attention. Then I took an another look at my map application it told me that I was texting! Then when I was going exactly along with the flow of traffic on the freeway a little bit over the speed limit (everyone) it screamed at me that I was speeding!! I would assume that their customer rate is pretty abysmal. Feel free to rent from them if you want somebody looking over your shoulder every second of the Rental via the camera in the car... I have no idea if there was a microphone as well but it wouldn't shock me. Unbelievable. Whoever greenlit that idea should be fired... It will likely be the downfall of the company. read more

I have given less than 1% of one-stars in all of my reviews as an Elite member and unfortunately, the discomfort and feeling of "You're being watched" is why I am giving Hui Car Share a one-star. Let me start with the pros though; it is a good concept for local, short trips, but it needs work. The app interface was not user friendly and the prices per day were also unreasonable (~130/day for a Corolla type car). It's better for a short drive, locally at most. Most of all, I felt extremely uncomfortable in the car. They had a camera glued to the dashboard motoring and recording us; perhaps it was just video (and audio) - I don't know - but the uncertainty of it and seeing a red light on and knowing we're being monitored at every move, made me feel very uncomfortable and uneasy. I understand the safety of the car is important but at the cost of the comfort of the driver/riders, not at all. I didn't feel like I could be myself (in my own space). I especially wanted to get the car to enjoy the beautiful drive north (Oahu), but the feeling of "you're being watched" ruined it. A definite no. read more

Writing this on Valentines Day. We grabbed a quick Hui to accommodate a friend that wanted to borrow our Truck for an errand. We have used Hui before and saw past the poor maintenance for the convenience and price and good service. Today however was a disaster unlike any we had with a retail company. About 5 min away from the location that APP starts telling us time is up and we must return to where we got it and can not drop at our Hui destination we were headed to. We immediately started calling with no answer customer service. First an answering service called us back after about 30 minutes but say they can do nothing but take a message and empathize that lots of upset customers are constantly calling about Hui. An hour into traffic HUI calls us, Sarah claims she is the owner of the company and that we must circle back to where we got the car or she will charge us $500 plus plus plus. She would not listen to a word we said. Would only threaten us with charges more charges if we did not return the car to where we got it. She just hung up and when we called back yelled at us and hung up again. We could hear similar conversations going on in background. This company had decent customer service a while ago but it is clear from the many furious comments on yelp; Hui and Sarah are a menace. Clearly they are running scams on tourists and locals and that they are getting away with changing the service and up charging people is crazy. Sadly my beautiful and kind woman wants no drama or bad will and is driving an hour back in traffic to return the car and Uber back to the party waiting for her at the beach. On Valentine's Day! I hope that Sarah and Hui and the actual parent company Servco get what they deserve. Not For Nothing, it's a huge red flag when the company has no names employees on LinkedIn! Tell me you're a scam without saying you're a scam! I hope the City Attorney looks into them and Marie is the reason robbers like these get shut down. I had such a positive first impression of Hui and highly recommend over Turo! All Hui cars are Toyota. First of all, Turo owners can cancel on you at any time which may ruin your plans, leave you without a car, and you'll have to opt for a more expensive last minute rental! I originally booked a Turo with mostly good reviews, but I was turned off by certain things and the fact that the owner has canceled previous bookings with his car. I canceled my Turo and booked a Hui car! Hui ended up being almost $100 cheaper than the Turo I had booked since my Turo was not offering free unlimited miles and requires gas to be filled 100%. I watched a few YouTube videos that explain Hui in detail, so it was super easy to use the app and figure everything out. I highly suggest watching videos first! 6 days before my trip to Oahu and I download the free app, searched for available cars near our hotel location. Luckily there was an available Toyota Prius (smaller=cheaper) only 0.4 miles away. That pickup location was in a parking garage and we are able to use that parking spot without extra charge for the whole day. There are other cars in other locations which are easy to locate using the map on the app. First, I recorded a video while walking around the car. There were small dents/scratches that are already marked with a light square on the exterior of the car. The car was clean inside, but I brought Lysol wipes to wipe it all down. Your phone must have Bluetooth, phone signal, and volume on loud to lock and unlock the vehicle. I was able to extend our reservation for 2 more hours without additional fees! You can only extend if there are no reservations after you. At the end of our reservation, we filled it up with gas using the included gas card (they don't require to fill it up 100%, just more than a quarter tank), took a photo of my receipt just to be safe, placed the gas card and my receipt inside the little envelope, parked the car back in the spot, dusted off the some of the sand we brought in, took another video of walking around the car, then hit "end reservation" on the app. Be aware that Hui cars do have "drive Hui" stickers and license plate holders, so it may come off as touristy and I've heard that there have been some car break-ins lately. read more

I've been a loyal Hui user for years (since before the pandemic), but after this experience, I will never use their service again. I was wrongly charged $1,000 for damage I did not cause to a vehicle I rented for 1-2 hours. I returned the car to the public parking lot in the same condition I received it, yet overnight, I received a vague email saying damage was found without evidence of photos, timeline, or proof. The cars are equipped with in-car camera (which they say they have) hanging from the rear-view mirror. When I asked customer service for footage from the in-car camera or reports I was told to email the support team, billing team, and customer care team. I called multiple times and was met with silence, they simply pushed the charge and restricted my account. This is not how you treat paying customers. If Hui wants to be taken seriously, they need to take responsibility for clear communication and fair investigation. Use this service at your own risk!!! read more

This is the Lexus car share we were given today...it's junk and looks terrible inside and out too. I don't know about you, but Lexus has always been branded as a luxury car. That was ages ago for this car. It should have been retired ages ag It's been side swiped, hit front and sides too and the console door is broken. The interior is a mess as well. It's not comfortable to drive in a messed up looking car at all. The rental fee is about $16/hour. We had to go around the car again to take active photos to post on their app, so we wouldn't be charged for the damages. We would not be charged if we post the photos, despite having a car now for 20 minutes and sitting in his car and assessing all that was wrong with it. We had to waste 25-30 minutes on hold to figure out the next step and take pics and upload them to the app. We are stuck with this junk of a Lexus for the day and still have for this car. I am a Kama'aina Hui user and I've been a user since the beginning! The first two years the customer service was A-1! Now if I have a problem I always get their answering service! It's like Servco doesn't care about these details. Please note that you will get there mainland answering service. They're nice but can't help. Only can read their scripted answers! First you need to make sure your phone is fully charged all day carry a back up charger because there is no physical key( app controlled only). But this is a problem since my 2 yr s iPhone battery needs replacing and took mother to dinner and my phone died and we couldn't leave had to find bd a place/person who had aloha for kend us their power bank do this cost us an hour and we were Kate getting the car back and to add insult we had to pay a late fee. Also the car had Jess than a quarter tank when we picked it up! So remember to fill before return if less!. Also the Bluetooth is spotty if it n it underground parking like Pali Momi location. You can wate ten minutes trying to get that car open. The cars were immaculate and the local cUstomer service was great! But since the pandemic non existent! Cars aren't always clean. One time no gas card in car had to end my trip early. Once we got locked out of the car after a late showing movie and has to call for help and answering service opened the car but we waited 2 hrs for a tow truck snd we were subsequently kate returning the car and my 79 yr old mom was cold and tired waiting to go home poor thing! And again we were chArged for being late! So advice font be late! Good things: 1. No proof of insurance required. 2. No deposit required. 3. Free gas card available too! 4. One can rent by 1/2 hour increments. Bad things: 1. Spotty WiFi 2. Non-existent local Customer service post pandemic or after 4pm. Doesn't seem to care for out of Honolulu market! I'm inbetween cars because of post pandemic lack of new cars and greedy dealer mark/ups so waiting for done stasis! Do I live Ewa side snd no cars only one. For the growth area of Kapolei and Ewa Beach. Have requested a car be placed in Ewa at either Safeway shopping center or Ewa beach shopping or town centers. A'ole m!. Also the Ko'olina cars are gone from Golf course m. So it seems that Hui only cares for urban Honolulu and da but s gets slighted! . Oh and sometimes filthy cars. This is one from Tokai University full of sand food wrappers and water bottles even coconut woven souvenirs from a luau. Most likely tourist! They need more locations in suburbs and better local customer service not just a eunic answering service who aren't authorized to do Jack! I rented Hui cars a few times on my trip to Ohau and generally I didn't have a good experience. I had problems with the parking garages where I went to pick up or drop off the cars. One time the parking spots assigned to Hui were taken and I had to call customer service to try and find a way to drop off the car, all this while I am stressing about incurring in fees for late drop off, while I was in the garage with limited cell service and the person on the phone was rude and incompetent. Another time I had to pay for parking to access the parking garage (free parking is one of the main things they advertise) and I have been trying to get a refund for weeks with receipts and all, but they stopped answering me so I guess that money is lost. Maybe go with a more established company, the car locations were convenient and all but it is not worth the hassle. read more

This review is overdue, but better late than never! My friends and I used this car service for our week long Hawaii trip. It is AMAZING. You make an account, pick the type of vehicle you need/want, and it automatically gives you pick up and drop off locations close to you. For us, it was a 3 minute walk to where we had to pick it up from. The instructions were very clear, if you needed extra time even last minute you were welcome to add on that extra time through the app, great prices, they provide gas card and overall it is very convenient. This service made our trip 10x more fun with a reliable car to get around than constantly calling ubers!! read more

If you don't have any issues on your trip, you're lucky. But if there are any issues at all, you might be on your own. Make sure you take photos of each dent and scratch otherwise they will try to blame that on you. While you stand out there taking photos and documenting, you lose time. They get paid for that time! Best to use rental companies like Hertz or Enterpise etc, so you can use insurance provided by your credit card company. Car share like HUI is NOT considered legit rental company by credit card companies. Their costumer service is so poor sometimes you have to call 10 times to get in, especially if after hours. Since there are no shortage of cars anymore, I'd recommend booking other rental companies ahead of time, which will give you better experience. Paying $150-180/day is not that cheap for what you get. read more

It is that extra little feature of living in honolulu that really makes getting around easy. I called Hui this morning because I mistakenly forgot to end my vehicle's reservation once I'd returned it. Chelsea didn't hesitate in refunding me the late fee, with a smile I could hear over the phone. This type of customer service is what makes Hui special. Grateful. read more

HUI will eventually be a pretty good car share program once they get the bugs out and HAVE A MUCH BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE setup. When calling these guys for assistance plan on waiting for 10 to 20 minutes for anyone to talk with. Very annoying especially when you're having issues with your rental car. Then unfortunately, you will talk with an agent that most likely cannot figure out how to help you . She/he will forward your questions for immediate help to someone higher up the chain. Then, as in my case, you'll never get a call back. Case in point.. when I finally got the car unlocked and started by using the app on my cell phone, a message on the car dashboard read "Key Not Detected." I was concerned I'd get some place down the road and not be able to restart the car. I never did get a callback from someone at HUI that could assist me. Another issue encountered with using your cell phone to unlock and start the car is if you happen to end up in an area with little or no cell service. I'm guessing you'll be totally screwed. I had trouble in several locations on the island of Oahu . And of course no one would respond to my calls for assistance and clarification. I read through everything on the HUI app before renting one of their cars. There is some limited information in the glove box regarding how to use the gas card, but its not totally clear. At the end of a 12 hour day using the car I had no issues with the car other than having to use my cell phone to unlock the car and most of the time getting the message KEY NOT DETECTED on the dashboard readout. HUI could do significantly better by having a knowledgeable person respond to your calls for help in 5 minutes or less. HUI could do significantly better by having a better website as how to use your cell phone for interacting with the vehicle they rent to you. HUI could do significantly better by having a much better paper guide in the glove box for you to read through when learning their process. Take pictures of all damages, scratches, etc. prior to use so you don't get a surprise later. read more

I don't own a car so Hui Car Share is the perfect answer when needing to go to, say, Costco or make a drop off at Savers or have multiple places to go that would take a whole lot longer by bus. There are at least three locations close to me so there's usually something available when I need it. The only drawback is at one of the locations (Keauhou Place) the gate signal doesn't always recognize the car so I either have to turn around and try the other gate or hit the call button. - Terrible customer experience - Cars are dirty and full of sand. The seats are dirty and wet. - App is not very user friendly - If you are late by 1 second, you cannot extend the rental using the app. You are forced to call the customer to extend the rental, even at nights and on weekends when they have no customer services. Very low tech. - No customer service is available after hours and none on Saturday and Sunday. So you are forced to pay late fee. - If you are late by more than 5 minutes in returning the car, you will be charge for a full hour of late fee at 1.5 times the hourly rate, even if you are only late by 5 minutes and 1 second. It is a complete rip-off. - They also charge you $6.5 for tax per rental per day. If you rent multiple times of the same car within the same day, you will have to pay tax multiple times even though the state car rental tax should only be charged one time per car per day. - The customer support is rude and unhelpful. They cannot help you unlock the car or open the gate of the parking where the rental car is parked or extend the rental. They seem to be there to just recite the fine print of the rental agreement, and reprimand the customers for not reading the rental agreement and not plan better. Very useless. - They claim to have everything on the app. But there are a lot of things you cannot do with the app. And their customer service is not available most of the time, and definitely not on weekends and after hours. The most streamlined, affordable car renting service ever! For 4 days, $400 total, HUI provides a gas card, insurance and parking. This car renting service saved me hundred of dollars on my trip to Oahu (unfortunately, it's only available on this island). I made reservations a month ahead of time and there were so many cars available! We wanted to extend our car for a couple of hrs because we were stuck in traffic and we were able to do so without any extra charges (since we already had the car reserved for more than 8 hours). IF YOU DO USE THIS SERVICE, REMEMBER TO END YOUR RESERVATION! I forgot but a HUI customer service rep was able to help me waive it (thank you so much!) I will definitely be using HUI again in the future! Please think about expanding to other locations!! read more

Surprisingly a seamless process! I was traveling by myself and I have an old 1998 car at home so I was concerned I'd need help understanding the buttons and gadgets, but it was easy to figure out. I didn't even need to fill the gas to go all the way around from Waikiki to Kaneohe to North Shore and loop back. It would've been helpful to get a tip on where the gas card was because I had a hard time searching. I feel like you should bring a portable charger in case (there are charger cables in the car too) as the bluetooth function I feel sucks the battery on my phone...and you need the phone to get anywhere. I had a good experience. There was a hiccup where they charged me $30 more than promised, but it was a good thing I screenshoted the original receipt, and then sent an email. The response was quick! I would definitely keep track of the prices though in case, still unsure how that mistake happened. Would recommend for drivers under 25 who don't need a car for all of their stay. Just be sure to book EARLY (like min a month in advance if you could) as time slots are difficult to secure. read more

You have to go into Hui with eyes wide open. They're a ride share company that seems to be through Toyota - all their vehicles are various types of Toyotas. Everything is done electronically through your phone, so make sure you have space and a strong battery life. Hawaii since vaccination has had an influx of people coming to the island, so if you're going to book a Hui, do it early. Like weeks early to make sure you get it on the dates you want. They have a finite amount of vehicles, so once it's gone, they're done. There's literally thousands of people going to Hawaii and there's a car shortage across the island, so if you're still in the middle of that, don't expect cheap cars. Hui was the cheapest option but was hardest to confirm vehicles. The cleanliness between vehicles leaves much to be desired. One of the vehicles I got still had a ton of sand from the previous people. I did santize the frequently touched areas, but if you're covid conscious, I do not recommend using Hui. This is expected through - the app didn't promise cleaning between reservations. The only negative is that their app has this stupid alarm that blares for no apparent reason. I was driving on the H1 going toward the airport when suddenly my phone blared this obnoxious sound and demanded that I turn off the engine. Scared, I did just that (on a highway!) and turned off the engine. I couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle or any reason it did that. But across my rentals, that happened multiple times. I ended up going against the phone and turning down my audio. Do be careful about the vehicles. One of my friends got one that looked quite wrecked. I got ones that looked pretty okay, but occcasionally a panel is missing or there was an obvious scratch on it. Take the time to document these before and take pictures of the car after so you're not blamed for other peoples' accidents. read more

I was run down by a hui car share in 2019 and the car and license plate was recorded, and the driver spoke with me. He then drove away and Hui( Toyota Lexus of Honolulu) would not let the police see any information on the driver. They effectively covered it up and left me for dead. I had to pay for the damages to my beautiful Vespa (totaled) and I have back pain to this day. The police did what they usually do and let everyone got away in plain site. It's a coordinated corporate operation which is why all these app based gig deals are such a burden on all of us. The regular citizen pays the price for people to work without a job and one person to make a huge cut of all transactions. read more

Hui at the pali momi medical center. If you enter at the main entrance for drop/off by the emergency sign it's easy to find. If you enter the other entrance walk down the ramp and it's around the exit attendant person. Really clean car. Gas card in center console to fill up gas when you can. Really smart and is rewarding to know honest people use this service. Just remember the odometer mileage when buying gas. We found the car and it wouldn't open. Called the support and on hold for 5 minutes. Found out we couldn't have wifi on same time as Bluetooth. (Not sure that was true). Still can't open so they said someone would call back. Half hour later called again and able to email someone. The unlock tab brings you to screen that has you report the condition of the interior. Still can't open door to check interior. Now the person on phone says you come back to that screen later. Tells me I can't open the doors until I pass that screen. Mind you that this is not mentioned ANYWHERE. I mentioned that and the person got real defensive. I had them cancel the ride since we missed our appointment. Gave them 2 stars because the car location was convenient. Never rent from Rude people! read more

Hui car share was PERFECT for us. We were on Oahu for 12 days and didn't need a car the whole. Just for 7 of the days where we planned excursions around the island. Anna we were trying to avoid paying for parking if possible and Hui came up on our radar while searching parking options. Signing up for the app took 24 hours to verify my license. Booking the individual days was a cinch. Picking up the car couldn't have been easier. Note: make sure your phones volume is turned up more than 50%. For some reason, that matters to connect to the car. The gas card was easy to use. Car was clean. Overall, a great experience! read more

We rented three times Pros: convenient, don't need to worry about miles or cost of gas. Can change up to an hour before. Open 24 hours a day- rental places in Waikiki have limited hours. Cons: have to decide how long up front. Can't turn early and pay less- charged for time as soon as check out. May be able to extend but no guarantee. Cars are only as clean as last person left them. No navigation installed. Pricey at $155 day First was the worst. The car has several issues. Maintenance light was on. Tire pressure indicator on. The biggest or maybe second biggest issue was the car wouldn't start within the two minutes and took multiple times to start at each start.. super frustrating and dangerous! We needed to put gas in... it only let us put $24.., don't let you fill the tank to make multiple people have to use time to fill the tank. The worst part however was it would not acknowledge we returned it to the right spot. Spent an hour trying to get it. Called customer service who were not helpful, system kept texting you have to turn it to original location. Spent three hours trying to resolve!!!! Second time car worked, no issues. Even was able to extend when we wanted more time. Third time the car was not in the hui spots. After walking around for 20 minutes we found it elsewhere on the floor... then they texted us to let us know! Was really dirty and there was trash n the back seat when we picked up. read more

Terrible experience. The car itself was in need of maintenance, who knows for how long. The app (how you lock/unlock the car, etc) failed twice during the day. The support folks were helpful enough, but it took a long time to get it working again. The 2nd time took even longer to get it working, and almost at 5pm, when the office closes. I want to recommend Hui and say that it was a good experience, but unfortunately, I have to leave a 1-star review from my recent experience in Mid-April 2022. As another reviewer has already stated, if no issues arise then Hui would be an overall great experience, but once an issue does occur, you will have trouble getting a callback or a response at all. I have emailed several times about a missing gas card after calling the customer support and being told by an automated message to "email support and they will refund you the gas amount charged on your personal credit card". 2 emails and 1 week later after a detailed explanation on the email with the reservation number, pictures of the gas receipts, and explaining that the gas card was missing from our car after we looked under all the mats and even in the trunk.... no response. At all. No acknowledgment from the email that it was even received and now my parents are regretting listening to me for wanting to support a local company and trying out Hui as they think we got scammed out of our money. Another issue that arose was that we did not end the reservation in the app at the end of our check-in as we dropped the car off 3-4 hours early, went back to the hotel, and slept early with our phones on do not disturb. We did not see the notifications to end the reservation until the next morning when we were already charged the 150% of the base fee for a "late check-out" even though we have proof and video of the car being returned in the parking lot early, and I'm sure the vehicle GPS/Tracker will reflect that, as well as having the car in the correct stall for the next customer who reserved the vehicle to use the next morning at 9 AM (I tried to reserve the vehicle again to see its availability and saw that it was available until 8ish AM of the next morning). I understand this was our fault for not ending the reservation in the app early, but what is hard to deal with is calling the support center numerous times throughout the day and automatically being directed to the voicemail, which we never received a call back from. Luckily, if you are ready to spend your holiday in Hawaii early in the morning before they open and call right away to get a chance to speak to a support staff (which we did), then this is the exact experience you'll get with the customer service at Hui. I believe the support staff is an outsourced call center as the lady who was on the other side of the line could not directly help us and wrote a support ticket to process to higher management, which we were told we would get a call back for. It has been several business days and no message or acknowledgment of this support ticket was received. In summary: A missing gas card from our reservation forced us to use our Canadian Credit Card to pay for gas, for which we incurred an added Foreign Exchange fee, but all we want to be refunded is the exact amount paid for the gas, to which even that we have not received any acknowledgment. A late fee was charged for 150% of the base fee of our reservation as we missed ending the reservation in the app even though we returned the car 3-4 hours early to the parking lot. I understand not ending the reservation is our fault, but I personally believe we should be refunded the late fee as we returned it early, and the next customer who reserved the vehicle had access to the vehicle with no issues. My main issue with this is the customer service received trying to get the refund as it is almost nonexistent, we haven't received any callback or acknowledgment that this is being looked into. Please Hui, I really want to recommend your company as I think the overall concept and the cars themselves were a good experience and in good condition, but other things that were out of our control (no gas card in car) and a simple mistake (not clicking the end reservation button even though we returned the car early) and having no response from customer service about these issues is making my parents tell others to stay far away from Hui whenever they visit Hawaii. Help me change their mind by showing that you guys are not a scam. I'll attach pictures of the receipt for the late fee, and the conditions of the car as they were good! UPDATE: Hui has responded to me and has resolved the Late Incurred Fee and the Gas Reimbursements. I have updated my review from 1 star to 5 stars for the response from customer service. I really did like the quality and condition of the cars, and if your car actually does end up with the gas card in the car then the service can't be beat with the price! I rented out from the OHANA Wakiki East. The location was a bit hard to find, glad the bell person knows where to pick up the car (it's on the 2nd floor with 3 designated spots with HUI sign). Pick up was easy, but for in case, I videoed the car condition before I pick up & drop off, since it's not like normal car rental there's staff actually check off the vehicle. The entire drive was good, but every time when I tried to unlock the car was 5 mins hassle, the app doesn't search the car signal immediately, I kind of had a gist of when I dial to the customer service the app will start search the car then was able to unlock the car. Just annoying I dialed 11 times so the app can search to unlock the car. While my drop off, there's no HUI designed spots available, glad the customer service lady was helpful helped me put a note on system and park at an open spot near by then their staff can relocate it. For extra careful, lady also suggested to email the general customer service car want able to park back the lot. Pros: great rate while this pendemic time all the minimum car rental are $150+ a day (with fees, insurance, gas etc.), plus almost all the hotels charge for overnight parking fee. I rented 8 hours was $113.43. But thought when I return the car 30mins early can drop some of the cost. It still charges the same rate when reserved. **the rate on the website weren't up-to-date, see app for the current prices. Mine was showing $13.73 per hour instead $10.95. Cons: It does need Internet to unlock the car, be aware that at some natural areas will have challenges to get reception. At Diamond Head parking lot I spend 15 mins waiting that wave of T-mobile receptions so can unlock the car...at that point I really wish there's a real key in the car for back up times like this. read more

Hui is just what I wanted. Hourly rental for whenever I wanted. It only works off of smart phones. Once you register, you can find a car near you on your phone and reserve it. For the hours/time you need it. You pick up and return at the same spot. You get there and your smart phone becomes your key. You need to have the volume turned up all the way, or it won't open The cars have push button starters. Gas is included. A gas card is in the car. They ask you to return it at least 1/4 full for the next renter. If you have time, it's always nice to fill it up. Parking garages either "see" the hui card in a camera, or there is a card to get out and back into where you pick up the car. I found they answered the phone right away and answered all my questions if I wasn't clear on how something worked. Anyway, I highly recommend it. Easy, all included, car was clean. My car battery died after about 10 minutes of driving. I called customer service and they transferred me to roadside assistance. After 20-30 rings, I was disconnected. I called customer service again and was transferred to roadside assistance again; I waited for 10 minutes and was told someone could jump start my car in 45-60 minutes. This was not an acceptable "solution": who would trust the battery after all of that? So I called customer service back, asked for a supervisor and then learned I was talking to the supervisor of their answering service. He was very kind and said he would do his best to have someone call me. I then emailed Hui and someone called me as I was getting into the Uber that will salvage the rest of my afternoon. The Hui person was very nice and they refunded my money, so I would summarize my experience as follows: 1. People - very nice and kind. 2. Company - terrible; they should never allow someone to be completely abandoned with no alternatives. A more together company would be equipped to provide a replacement vehicle. Problems can happen, but it is how you equip your staff to solve them that counts. I give the nice staff an A for kindness and the company a 0 for service. 1 star is a generous rating. read more
