While on vacation in Oahu, I had a day trip planned for our last day that I was excited for that required a rental. When my car rental fell through with another large rental company, Budget, due to a shortage when I showed up for my reservation with terrible customer service, I was in a pickle and called around other large rental companies that also had shortages or very expensive options. When I came across Akamai, I called and they not only had cars available, they were reasonably priced, and the costumer service was outstanding. I couldn't figure out how to get my phone connected to the navigation system after awhile and Jon helped me and called someone else to also get extra help and got me all setup. Reservation, pick up, and drop off was seamless and they offered to let me park or overnight if needed. The car was clean, newer, and in great shape. I would highly recommend! Please support this local business that offers fantastic customer service and clean comfortable cars. The next time I'm in Oahu I know who I'll be using. Thank you, Jon, and Akamai Rentals! read more

You guys really deserve a 5/5 review! Car quality 5/5 Service 5/5 Price for value 5/5 Oh man the van I rented, 5/5 got a Honda odyssey, super clean roomy and overall driving the van was just fantastic, my entire family loved the car and comfort, as we drove around town and to the countrysides. Your service was 5/5 because I went to your website and couldn't find the van so I decided to walk up and you got me what I needed and you and your staff was super informative, patient and choices of vehicles were plenty. Thank you. Overall value is 5/5 because you run a very unique rental business!!!!!!! You allow us to park it in your lot overnight, you waved me $60.00 per night for valet at my resort. U was able to walk there within minutes to get the car or drop it off. Just the perfect way to save us some $$ I will for sure come back next trip to rent from you!! This is a must try. Side note: uber/lyft round trip for us would have costed us the same price of the rental if not more, we were able to skip the valet fees at the resort, take the tour as long as we want and just loved this setup. Also if you go to places like dole plantation via uber, your return trip might be a long wait because I didn't see a lot of uber drivers available up that way. (I could be wrong) but this rental was just the perfect setup vs the waiting game. read more

Akamai Rentals was perfect for our stay in Waikiki. They were super easy to deal with as a rental car company and friendly. I would definitely recommend and use them again if I come back to Waikiki. I was able to easily book my reservation online. Price for the day is totally fair considering you get to use it all day and return it at any time. Not every rental car company allows after-hours returns, this one does. They also provide 2 car garages where you can park for free if you need to. We didn't need to, but it's a convenient perk. Otherwise you might be paying high nightly parking fees at your resort. We ended up with a clean, new Corolla and found it very comfortable. 5 stars! read more

Akamai Rentals is exactly what my boyfriend and I ordered for our trip to Oahu! It's situated on the west end of the Waikiki Strip and even offers free parking at night (if you can swing it). Just make sure to be accommodating of other customers and park accordingly! This was a big draw for us, since the valet parking options at the neighboring resorts can be pricy. Incredibly thankful for the kind and laid back people at Akamai. I'd highly recommend this spot going forward. read more

My second time renting with Akamai Rentals and will probably be my car rental company of choice in Oahu! As like last time, booking online was very easy, and picking up the car was also very easy as there was no line that morning. I chose a midsize SUV for my adventures around Oahu and received a clean Toyota RAV4. I love that they offer free parking at a choice of four different lots around Waikiki (as parking at the hotels can be $40-50 a night!) and I chose to park at King Kalakaua Plaza as my hotel was just one block over. Parking at King Kalakaua Plaza is valet only which was very convenient (though keep in mind that the valet can get quite busy as it is in the same building as the Marriott Vacation Club, especially during check-in hours, and the valet is closed from 12am-5am). My friends whom I traveled with were very impressed at how logistically simple my rental experience was. Thank you again, Akamai Rentals, for a great experience! Until next time! read more

Excellent experience with Akamai Car Rental! Their fleet is brand new, clean, and well maintained. One of the best perks is the free parking in Waikiki, which alone is worth around $50 a day and saved us a significant amount during our trip. The entire experience was easy and convenient. So thankful we found these guys. I'll definitely use Akamai again whenever I'm back in Hawaii. Highly recommend! read more

I made a mistake while I'm booking. Instead choose 8 passengers mini van , I clicked 7 passengers. I called them, they just changed right away read more

Will definitely be back and renting from Akamai Rentals. Staff was super friendly and the car was clean. The overnight parking alone saved me like $50-60 a night vs paying at the hotel and it was just a short walk from our stay. Exactly what you want from a car rental. Will be back! read more

THE best car rental experience ever. Top notch customer service. Woman owned and family run -- I didn't even know places like this existed anymore when all you ever come across out there are the big names! Conveniently located directly across from our hotel, we walked in without a reservation and booked a two-day rental for later in the week. Pick up and drop off was a breeze, and they allow free parking on-site overnight. This is an incredible bonus with hotels in Waikiki charging an arm and a leg for valet. Akamai doesn't allow in/out, but you can self-park at night and then pick up again when they open in the morning. Easy peasy! Everyone there was super nice. Highly recommended! read more

Easy and reasonable priced!! Love that this place is so close to where we were staying (Hokulani). Was able to get a car without reservation. They were willing for me to drop off the car at their lot that night so I didn't have to pay for parking. read more

They helped us a lot when we were in a pinch to rent a car for an excursion we had booked without transportation. Our hotel recommended them and when Avis had a line of 15 people, we called and within minutes had a car rental that they scrambled to had clean for us to take within the hour. The owner was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and her son was great as well. Little hidden gem if you need a car rental , and you're supporting a local business. They also allow you to return the car any time and do a key drop off which was great considering other place want the car back by 4 pm. read more

There service is quick, and the cars are kept so clean! Friendly customer service. Will definitely call use akamai rentals again

Loved to be able to rent from a local small business. The reservation process online was easy and pick up and drop off was even easier! Reasonable rates and friendly staff! read more

Truly a 5 star experience with Akamai rentals. I was wanting to explore Oahu last minute so needed a car within a day. I was reading a lot of reviews of places on the Waikiki strip and the reviews were all over the place. I ended up with Akamai rentals and I was very happy! Within a day they got me in a car that I wanted at a very reasonable rate. They keep their cars in top condition. They were spotless not a piece of sand in sight. Pick up was super easy too! Very friendly staff! A great part if you want multiple days you can also par at their facilities as an option! With the car I got to see so many cool places! read more

Best place to rent from. Akamai made it super easy to rent a car. We were staying at the Halepuna and needed a car for 2 days. I was able to make the online reservation the night before and pick up the next morning at 9am. We picked up the Toyota Carolla and off we went. The car was clean and the staff were super nice. A big reason we chose Akamai was because they offered free parking on their lots after hours (so need for us to pay for hotel parking since it was on the next block). They just request that you park after they close (4pm), leave keys in the drop box overnight so they can move vehicles, and pick up next day after they open. After dropping off the car at the end of our reservation (fill up tank, park in lot, keys in drop box), they refunded our deposit the very next morning. 5 stars for sure. Super easy and simple. Will definitely use Akamai again on our next visit read more

Akamai Rentals - Toyota Carolla (Mid Size Sedan Rental) - Car Rental Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Great place to rent a car for a day or multiple days. Includes parking in Waikiki which helps avoids hotel parking fees.

Wow what a pleasure to rent from Akamai. My family and I rented a Honda mini van 8 passenger besides the van performing flawlessly the personal touch as a customer was the best I've ever experienced ever renting a car. Looking forward to visiting this place again. Quick response to my email as well. Wish all rental agencies were like this. Much mahalo read more

The best rental car company I've ever rented from. Would give them 10 if I could! And free parking? AMAZING

My experience with Akamai Rentals was the best I've ever had when renting a car. The whole process was incredibly smooth, fast, and hassle-free. The customer service team was so helpful and professional. I'll definitely be choosing them again for future trips. read more

All I can say is AMAZING!!! We needed a rental for the day and since this was walking distance from our hotel we decided to give them a shot. They were absolutely amazing. In and out was so fast and easy it was mind boggling. We first tried Avis at our hotel but were not happy with the rates and limited supply of vehicles. Walked over to Akamai and less than 10 minutes later we had a car! If you're visiting the island, with a doubt go see them! We are Planning another vacation in November and without a doubt we are going back to them! THANK YOU for the ease of renting and we will see you again! Mahalo!!!!!! read more

Fantastic Experience. Got set up with the car in just 5 minutes after arriving and got a brand new car for a great price. On top of that, the complimentary parking options saved us a ton of money on overnight parking in the Waikiki area. Not only was the car great but the customer service was fantastic. I went to drop the car off during after hours and accidentally locked my phone in the car. I was able to get in contact with someone who drove back to the lot and let me into the car to get my phone so I could make my flight. Great people, great car, great deal, great service! read more

Great service, with free parking options. Breck helped me and she was amazing and helpful.

Happy with our Car from Akamai Car Rentals! The staff was friendly, the pickup and drop off is in great location, and the car was clean and reliable. They made our trip around Hawaii stress-free. I would definitely rent from them again! read more

First time renting anywhere outside of the big national chains. This experience was 10/10. The employees/owner were all fantastic, the reservation and pickup couldn't have been easier. The car was great. They have parking options that I think would appeal to a lot of people although we didn't need to use any of the lots on this trip that is a huge perk to renting with them in the Waikiki area. Would 100% suggest renting your vehicle through them vs the big rental companies. Save time, save money, support a local company and have a better experience doing it! read more

I rented from Akamai based upon Yelp reviews, even though I had a reservation from one of the big guys that technically was much cheaper and closer to our hotel, but there were some real advantages to renting here: 1.) walking distance from Waikiki hotels 2.) rental desk and cars are together 3.) could park free at night at the rental company 4.) return allowed after closing time 5.) they are just plainly nice folks The online rental process is a bit more unwieldy (uploading an image of your driver's license), but once you show up, it's as fast or faster than belonging to one of the big players' express checkouts. I'm glad we found them, and will use them again! read more

Very good experience. Booking went smoothly. Pick up was easy and so was the return. The personnel were very friendly and helpful and the price was reasonable. read more

unprofessional. We had to pay huge extra fees and they weren't accommodating at all. Not recommended!!

WOW, where to start? I've rented cars before from the likes of Avis, Enterprise and Budget but nothing comes close to the level of customer service you get from Chams and his crew. Everyone is incredibly nice and friendly. Our schedule was kind of crazy and Chams met us curbside at the airport to hand over the keys. Do yourself a favor, if you are on the island of Oahu, these are the guys to rent from. They truly are amazing and you won't be disappointed. read more

Don't mess around with the big companies, Akamai was so easy to work with. We wanted to go to the North Shore for the day but wanted to return late (long after they closed). The other companies were a pain to even float that idea by. Akamai was awesome, no fuss at all. Very fair pricing, upfront and honest, and they didn't try to rip us off with BS charges. We won't consider anyone else when we return!! read more

very helpful! I'm out staying at the embassy suites and I was peeping at them through my balcony. I watched them for a couple of hours before deciding to drop by and see what kind of rental vehicles they offered. very reliable! very affordable! prices look a bit more pricier than larger companies like enterprise or Alamo, but the free parking they offer is very convenient and saves you money overall. The staff are very professional and kind, they were the embodiment of Aloha! Thank you Akamai Rentals, I will be renting with you again next year!! read more

Everyone was very nice. They were willing to change our reservation when something came up. The car was clean and new. We appreciated being able to park the car back on their lot overnight, and we appreciated being able to return the car after hours. The deposit was returned very early the next morning, so no problem there. We've only ever rented cars a handful of times and we were a little wary about choosing an "unknown" (to us) place, but it was all good. Highly recommend! read more

We have passed by Akamai Rentals many times but never noticed that it was a vehicle rental company because there is no formal signage prominently displayed. On Yelp, we read some positive reviews, so we decided to try it out - our rental experience was GREAT!!! The rental process was very quick and easy; the staff is very nice and professional. We rented a Toyota Corolla and we received it clean, ready, and filled with gas at the promised time. No long lines nor wasteful procedures. The rental rate was very reasonable and they offer their insurance if you would like - there are no high pressure up-sells. The best advantage is - you can park your rental car in their lot overnight for FREE without having to pay the nearby hotels' outrageous overnight parking rates. They will ask you to put a $500 security deposit down ... to ensure that you will return the car undamaged to them. Once we returned the car, the $500 release was immediately made. We will definitely be renting our cars from Akamai Rentals. The two cons are: there are no public restrooms for customer usage and the lot is easy to overlook due to lack of clear signage, if you are trying to locate it for the first time. But other than these two minor things, we will not hesitate in returning! As an added note, we had forgotten a package in our returned car and they were able to find it and put it aside for us - great service! read more

Was warned how difficult it was to rent car at hotels and saw firsthand the early line ups (an hour prior to opening) at our hotel. Saw good reviews for Akamai and booked quickly online. Really easy check in experience, and best part is being able to park there overnight when renting car for multiple days (saved the 75 parking fee per night at our hotel). Would definitely recommend this place. read more
