The lady said not to worry, she had other vehicles available at no additional charge. I ended up getting an upgrade- BMW X5! Not to shabby! Overall, I had a great experience! I was in and out of SIXT rental within 15 minutes from arriving! Staff were friendly, quick and efficient, not to mention accommodating! It's located upstairs in the parking garage adjacent to the airport (very convenient). The car itself was in mint condition, clean and practically smelled brand new! Plenty of legroom and luggage space. We definitely felt like we were driving in style around the island! So thankful to SIXT and their staff for kickstarting our vacation on a happy note! The "manager" Andrew, accused me of aggressing an employee by saying the word "crap". I did not say that, I was not even angry or frustrated. He came out of nowhere to tell me, aggressively, why they need to check an id that had been scanned multiple times previously. I don't understand what even happened! Because I was confused and upset about being wrongfully attacked, I asked him to clarify his accusation. He escalated by repeatedly telling me, "you can't even admit that you said it" and I said, yes, because I don't ! He would not engage with me or my husband in coming to a meaningful understanding. My husband and two teenage children both said they did not hear me say this and came to my defense. He would not admit he could have misheard. He shut me down and repeated that I was denying it and that I couldn't admit that I "cursed" at his employee. He ended with sarcastically saying, "why don't you leave and enjoy your vacation." I don't say the word crap, because it's a crap curse word. I use better, more adult curse words. If I was frustrated, the room would know. What manager is trained to escalate? This person should not be in a front facing position. I'm kinda floored that he chooses to be in customer service, because if he is starting g a fight with a not that annoyed middle aged lady, how does he handle an enraged man? I doubt he would have had this interaction with a man. I wasn't even mad, it came out of nowhere I think he must have heard my kids or another customer say something 'cause it's not what happened and my whole family was witness. I'm sure everything is recorded - check the footage. You're an angry man, Andrew, shame on you. Sixt has been made aware of the situation and I do really hope they watch the security footage. Also, Andrew, crap isn't considered a curse word by any means (even though I didn't even say that!) Get your crap together - I can say that even on yelp and it's not considered offensive. Do not rent from Sixt!!! I have been a loyal customer for years until I rented a Cadillac STX in 12/2025. I just received an email from a collections agency stating that I owe $500 for damages that I did not cause. I have been contacting them for over 6 months trying to resolve this, but they keep trying to send me an invoice. I took photos of the damage and sent it to them, but they do not respond back, only to send an auto-generated invoice. They have lost 2 class action lawsuits for fraud! If this continues, they will have a 3rd lawsuit on their hands. Do not rent from this company, unethical and fraudulent! Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE: 6/9/26 I've tried to reach out to customer service and the BBB. Sixt car rental refuses to accept the fact that there was pre-existing damages and states they have a pre-rental inspection that was done but cannot provide proof. This is fraud! Anyone else in this situation should contact BBB and seek a class action lawsuit. I should have known better! When I first arrived at the rental counter, I reserved a midsized SUV-Nissan. After I declined the insurance coverage because I have my own, the short bald Hawiian guy said I'm going to upgrade you to a Cadillac with no extra charge. I kindly declined the offer, but he gave me the Cadillac anyways. So beware, if they try to do a bait and switch, you will know they are giving you a damaged vehicle. We landed, found the shuttle for the car rental places and went straight to the fourth floor where the sixt office is...or so we thought. At that office we were directed to go back down to the escalator to the third floor, where the office actually is so that we could get our contract and QR code for the rental. That is the only reason that I'm subtracting one star. The signage in the airport for Sixt could be better so that people hauling luggage don't waste time going up and down escalators/elevators before you can get your rental. After this minor frustration, the rental process was very easy. We brought the QR code back to the 4th floor and were given our rental vehicle. We reserved the manager's special. Of course, they did not have any car in that class, so we got a free upgrade. We ended up getting a Ford equinox SUV. We drove all over the island in this SUV and had the rental for four days. It was a good experience. Even returning the car was quite easy. I have no complaints and will probably rent from Sixt again. read more

I rented a vehicle for 1 day. Upon check in they said the class I rented was not available & offered me an upgrade. Vehicle was dirty. I returned the vehicle the next day (20 hours after pick up), and they are now charging me for 4 days. When I called and finally got to speak to a real person they just kept insisting that even though I rented a vehicle for 1 day I had it for 4. I have receipts to prove that I refilled gas at the airport, that I went through tsa & got on an airplane where I've been in a completely different place, making charges on my bank account, not using their rented vehicle however they do not want to give me my money back. It was really quite awful. The price they showed at the counter was $80 more than what I had agreed to online, but it was a holiday weekend and I was in a bind so I went ahead. Then the vehicle was a completely different one from what I had chosen (Jeep Gladiator instead of a Toyota Tacoma-- I do not like driving Jeeps and the conformation is different in a number of ways). I checked on changing my return time and there was no increase in price from the already higher price, so I made the change. When I returned it, no agents were present for about 15 minutes. Then when I got the "final" bill, it was up another $55 to $260 for 25 hours! Moral of the story: avoid Sixt, but if you must, make sure you screen-shot the online quote and bring it with you to the rental site. read more

I'm giving a rental car agency five starts, it's true! I booked online, I did pre check-in before pickup and I was able to go straight to the top floor of the garage to the kiosk, check in with the agent and pick up my at no-charge upgraded BMW. While there was no wait, due to no one else being there, I also found no up-charging, no shady sales deals... just friendly service and reasonable prices. The car was clean and full of gas and upon return they were just as kind and efficient. I wanted to hold back sharing this review but I can't and I need to share. I rented a bmw x5 expecting a nice vehicle and all clean but I don't a vehicle infested with bugs as per the return agent they are called German cockroach. Just imagine from the sound of that. I spoke to one of the booth agent when I returned the vehicle and they said a manager will reach out and until now no communication has been made. I called customer service and they said wait 2 days... and still none... As you can see on the video those are only a few the first time I opened the door there was at least a dozen of them and they run away once they feel movement from opening the door. This is a fraudulent company. I wish I knew before I rented with them. I picked up my rental at LAX, paid the extra insurance and $300 deposit. I returned the car fully gassed and the agent took pictures and told me everything was perfect and I should receive my $300 deposit within 3-5 business days. We'll, within 3 days, they charged my card another $120 and told me it's for the gas and insurance and also told me I will not be receiving my $180 deposit for another 16 days if everything goes OK on their end. The CS guy was Indian and he couldn't explain any further. All together for the 4 days of rental, we were charged $800. This is a fraudulent company. The check-in process was quite smooth. Our flight arrived a couple of hours before our car (a small SUV) was ready, so we were offered an alternative, a BMW 3 SUV. The agent gave me a discount, instead of $70 per day, it would be $35 per day! There was no mention of the word, "UPGRADE". I assumed the entire cost was $35 per day, so I agreed. Later, I found the $35 was ON TOP OF THE ARRANGEMENT I made online!! I left a review expressing my displeasure. The following day, the company rep called me. I described the events. The rep was a very pleasant young man, and he understood. He ended up removing the entire fee for the BMW! Beware this company, they will try to scam you and claim you "damaged" the car. We had our rental for about 5 days. Returned it and did a walk around WITH THE SIXT EMPLOYEE to check the vehicle for damages. He said everything looked great and we turned over the keys and flew home. I just received an email that they "found additional damages" on the car. They described this as a superficial scratch 10cm long on the front license plate. They sent me a photo of this "damage" and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, no evidence whatsoever of any sort of scratch. It just looks like a normal license plate. I've attached the photo they sent me. We won't ever be using Sixt again. This is indeed the address where I have already sent my complaints. However, three days after my departure, you withdrew the reimbursement that had been made -- and even more. And today, a new explanation appears: so-called "fuel charges." The service@sixt.com team responded that these were fuel fees and that the matter was closed. Yet, on site, the rental agent clearly stated that everything was included, with no additional fees, and that the fuel was covered by Sixt. He also confirmed the reimbursement, explaining that it was simply a deposit. Therefore, there is no point in pretending to have a caring customer service in public comments when, in reality, your practices consist of taking back the amounts owed once customers are no longer present to contest them. AVOID!!!!! The worst experience I have ever had with a car rental company. I do not understand how there are so many positive reviews especially about the staff. Makes me think those were paid for. The negative reviews that I came across here are inline with my experience. Feels like their business is extortion. They scare you into buying their insurance. The rude staff at the counter went into detail how even the tiniest pinhead, barely visible damage will be documented as it "changes" the car and we may be charged for it. They do not have a minimum damage before damage is assessed to you. So any no matter how small damage will be counted against you. Other car rental companies will have an allowance that anything smaller than golf ball size will not be counted. They scare you that you will be penalized and charged up the "you know what" if you don't get their insurance. So you feel like you have to buy it. And from the other reviews here other people were seriously rolled over with insane damage fees. When we entered the rental office the line was long and not moving. Only one guy was at counter assisting two girls. He spent so much time flirting with them that the line stood still and was getting longer. Eventually another guy arrived and the line started moving. It took nearly 40 min for us to get the car. Then we spent 20 min documenting all the damage on the car to make sure they can't say anything about it. So instead of taking our tired kids to the hotel they not only had to sit in the rental office falling asleep for 40 min and then wait more while we had to meticulously document everything. Amazing start to a vacation. The car they provided was dirty and full of scratches. All rims were scratched up, seats dirty, and scratches throughout the car. read more

THREE MONTHS LATER, they sent me a revised invoice claiming I had only partially paid and sneakily charged my bank $200+ without permission. I gave them calls over the span of 3 days. Customer service was rude, dismissive, and acted like they were doing me a favor by starting a 3-15 day refund process for that charge. They were unapologetic, refused to immediately provide me confirmation of the refund, and gave me excuses that any higher ups were always busy and unavailable. This feels dishonest and predatory. We usually rent our cars from Avis or National, but we forgot this time. We booked a car the same day, and the only SUV left was a BMW X3. The check-in process was easy, and the salesperson offered us an upgrade. Being so used to complimentary upgrades from our credit card, we didn't think twice. Later that day, after finishing our hike at Koko Crater, we discovered cockroaches in the car as the sun went down. At first, it was just one, but soon they started to multiply! We ended up going to Safeway to buy traps and Raid. We were so relieved to return the car when we headed to the airport to go home. I booked on priceline and did not know I was getting Sixt until after I paid. I looked at the reviews and I was a bit worried but I noticed the people who left negative reviews left sand in the car floors and did not take photos (upload onto the app as instructed). I am assuming they did not follow instructions or were careless. After getting the keys, you get to upload photos of any damage you see within the first hour through a QR code. I spent a good 30 minutes taking photos of every scratch or ding. Sure everyone is tired from a long flight but if you're too lazy to take photos then it's at your own risk. No matter what anyone says, make sure to CYA and document everything. After uploading the pics to Sixt via the link, just in case, I spent another 15 minutes taking a video of everything as evidence. It was insurance just in case the photos did not upload properly. Also the video is time stamped. I rented for 7 days. It was a basic mid size SUV Jeep Compass. I drove all over the island. It seemed to run well and air conditioner worked great. Not sure why car rental places take out the floormats from the car but it makes it harder to get rid of sand. Even tho I tried my best to dust my shoes off before entering the car, some sand got in. Not alot but a small amount. And from reading other reviews, it was suggested to vacuum or risk getting charged which is reasonable. I actually found sand in the car when I picked it up at the airport. I noticed small particles were stuck inside the crevices of the carpet. There were some in the back seat floors even though we only sat in the front. Regardless, I vacuumed the front area twice and the back area once ( halfway through my rental and the night before my rental). There are vacuums at most gas stations but the vacuums are pretty weak and you have to go over the same spot several times. To prevent having to do that again, I spread cloth and some newspapers on the floor of the driver and passenger floor area. I also used sanitizing wipes on the steering wheel, handles and parts that were touched at the beginning and at the end of my rental. Also before going to the airport, I filled up the tank full and topped it off a few dollars more and did not drive anywhere at night. From the hotel to tje airport, it was only 15 min away so the tank was full when I arrived at the airport drop off area. When I dropped off my car, the inspection staff had to go through all the photos I had taken at the beginning of my rental and saw my car was very clean. Honestly, I think it was cleaner and more sanitized after I brought it back. He seemed satisfied with the cleanliness of the car and completed the inspection. It was a great experience. One thing about the car is that the car seat adjustments are manual, not automatic. I didnt know they still made cars like that anymore. It was inconvenient when adjusting my seat which I had to do a few times. The car was a stock model but it did have a back camera which was helpful when backing out of parking lots and the air conditioner worked great. read more

The next morning when we came out to the car, there were cockroaches all on the floors and on our stuff we took everything out and threw it away and tried to call them. They kept trying to transfer us to something called second level and it kept going to a voicemail. We called them consistently for two days. When we finally reached somebody, they expected us to bring the car out to them when everything we had was on an itinerary and on a schedule. And they acted like they were inconvenienced. When I asked if we could push our return time back because our delayed flight caused us to check in later than planned, I was concerned it might create an issue with the two-day authorization window. Fred reassured us, explained the safeguards in place, and helped update our check-in time to reflect our actual arrival. He was also very respectful of my military service, built great rapport with my family, and even moved luggage left blocking the doorway so we could get through with our stroller. Seats folded up and down very easily, so I was able to carry display posters without a problem. The car was in excellent condition, drove well, and was clean. I ordered when I made my Hawaiian airlines flight reservation, and the price was very reasonable. I will use Sixt again and can recommend Sixt highly!
