Kudos to SIXT Rent A Car! Upon arrival I was told they didn't have the vehicle I had originally booked through Booking.com. The lady said not to worry, she had other vehicles available at no additional charge. I ended up getting an upgrade- BMW X5! Not to shabby! Overall, I had a great experience! I was in and out of SIXT rental within 15 minutes from arriving! Staff were friendly, quick and efficient, not to mention accommodating! It's located upstairs in the parking garage adjacent to the airport (very convenient). The car itself was in mint condition, clean and practically smelled brand new! Plenty of legroom and luggage space. We definitely felt like we were driving in style around the island! So thankful to SIXT and their staff for kickstarting our vacation on a happy note! It's true what they say, having your own set of wheels eliminates the stress of waiting for rideshares or adhering to rigid public transit schedules- Mahalo SIXT! read more

The "manager" Andrew, accused me of aggressing an employee by saying the word "crap". I did not say that, I was not even angry or frustrated. He came out of nowhere to tell me, aggressively, why they need to check an id that had been scanned multiple times previously. I don't understand what even happened! Because I was confused and upset about being wrongfully attacked, I asked him to clarify his accusation. He escalated by repeatedly telling me, "you can't even admit that you said it" and I said, yes, because I don't ! He would not engage with me or my husband in coming to a meaningful understanding. My husband and two teenage children both said they did not hear me say this and came to my defense. He would not admit he could have misheard. He shut me down and repeated that I was denying it and that I couldn't admit that I "cursed" at his employee. He ended with sarcastically saying, "why don't you leave and enjoy your vacation." I don't say the word crap, because it's a crap curse word. I use better, more adult curse words. If I was frustrated, the room would know. What manager is trained to escalate? This person should not be in a front facing position. I'm kinda floored that he chooses to be in customer service, because if he is starting g a fight with a not that annoyed middle aged lady, how does he handle an enraged man? I doubt he would have had this interaction with a man. I wasn't even mad, it came out of nowhere I think he must have heard my kids or another customer say something 'cause it's not what happened and my whole family was witness. I'm sure everything is recorded - check the footage. You're an angry man, Andrew, shame on you. Sixt has been made aware of the situation and I do really hope they watch the security footage. Also, Andrew, crap isn't considered a curse word by any means (even though I didn't even say that!) Get your crap together - I can say that even on yelp and it's not considered offensive. Unless you don't have your crap together and then yes, you should take offense. read more

Do not rent from Sixt!!! I have been a loyal customer for years until I rented a Cadillac STX in 12/2025. I just received an email from a collections agency stating that I owe $500 for damages that I did not cause. I have been contacting them for over 6 months trying to resolve this, but they keep trying to send me an invoice. I took photos of the damage and sent it to them, but they do not respond back, only to send an auto-generated invoice. They have lost 2 class action lawsuits for fraud! If this continues, they will have a 3rd lawsuit on their hands. Do not rent from this company, unethical and fraudulent! Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE: 6/9/26 I've tried to reach out to customer service and the BBB. Sixt car rental refuses to accept the fact that there was pre-existing damages and states they have a pre-rental inspection that was done but cannot provide proof. This is fraud! Anyone else in this situation should contact BBB and seek a class action lawsuit. I should have known better! When I first arrived at the rental counter, I reserved a midsized SUV-Nissan. After I declined the insurance coverage because I have my own, the short bald Hawiian guy said I'm going to upgrade you to a Cadillac with no extra charge. I kindly declined the offer, but he gave me the Cadillac anyways. So beware, if they try to do a bait and switch, you will know they are giving you a damaged vehicle. Even when I sent them the photos of the damaged car, they said they can't verify the damage was there. Completely ridiculous and a terrible company to do this to their customers. read more

Be careful when renting any car from here!! Make sure you check and take photos/videos of all scratches dings and dents etc before leaving cause they will blame you for it when returning vehicle. They filled a claim with my insurance 3 months later for some scratches that were already on the vehicle when they gave it to me but thank goodness I took video of the damages in the front so I will be showing my insurance company. Just be aware of this location they are sketchy. I would STAY AWAY from this place! read more

We landed, found the shuttle for the car rental places and went straight to the fourth floor where the sixt office is...or so we thought. At that office we were directed to go back down to the escalator to the third floor, where the office actually is so that we could get our contract and QR code for the rental. That is the only reason that I'm subtracting one star. The signage in the airport for Sixt could be better so that people hauling luggage don't waste time going up and down escalators/elevators before you can get your rental. After this minor frustration, the rental process was very easy. We brought the QR code back to the 4th floor and were given our rental vehicle. We reserved the manager's special. Of course, they did not have any car in that class, so we got a free upgrade. We ended up getting a Ford equinox SUV. We drove all over the island in this SUV and had the rental for four days. It was a good experience. Even returning the car was quite easy. I have no complaints and will probably rent from Sixt again. read more

My experience with SIXT Honolulu was extremely disappointing and left me questioning their business practices. One day after returning my Chrysler Pacifica, I received an email accusing me of damaging the passenger-side mirror. After coming home from an amazing--but exhausting--family vacation, the last thing I wanted to do was spend my time defending myself against a false damage claim. Thankfully, I had the foresight to thoroughly document the vehicle before leaving the rental lot. I took detailed videos and photos that clearly showed the condition of the mirror before I ever drove the vehicle. Once I submitted my evidence, SIXT dismissed the claim. The fact that they dismissed the claim proves my documentation protected me, but it doesn't excuse the stress, inconvenience, and wasted time I had to endure. It's completely unprofessional that SIXT apparently doesn't have an effective system to accurately document and track pre-existing vehicle damage before accusing customers of causing it. While SIXT's rates were lower than many of the other rental companies in Honolulu, this experience makes me wonder if filing questionable damage claims is part of how they recover those lower prices. I can't prove that's the case, but after being falsely accused myself, it's hard not to question it. If you rent from SIXT, do yourself a favor: take a complete walk-around video, close-up photos of every panel, wheel, and mirror, and document every scratch before leaving the lot. Without that evidence, I believe I could have been stuck paying for damage I did not cause. I won't be renting from SIXT again. read more

I rented a vehicle for 1 day. Upon check in they said the class I rented was not available & offered me an upgrade. Vehicle was dirty. I returned the vehicle the next day (20 hours after pick up), and they are now charging me for 4 days. When I called and finally got to speak to a real person they just kept insisting that even though I rented a vehicle for 1 day I had it for 4. I have receipts to prove that I refilled gas at the airport, that I went through tsa & got on an airplane where I've been in a completely different place, making charges on my bank account, not using their rented vehicle however they do not want to give me my money back. This company is a scam. Don't rent from here! read more

I'm giving a rental car agency five starts, it's true! I booked online, I did pre check-in before pickup and I was able to go straight to the top floor of the garage to the kiosk, check in with the agent and pick up my at no-charge upgraded BMW. While there was no wait, due to no one else being there, I also found no up-charging, no shady sales deals... just friendly service and reasonable prices. The car was clean and full of gas and upon return they were just as kind and efficient. PS: there is also a very clean bathroom right at the elevators by the Sixt kiosk making it even more convenient! I'd 100% use them again. read more

I reserved a premium suv and they did not have it so they "upgraded" me to an expedition that had 40k plus miles on it and a bunch of dings and scratches on it. When I got it in the sun outside of the garage I noticed how bad of shape it was in so I took a video and a bunch of photos around the car. Then when I returned the car the lady sent me a report saying that I returned it in the same condition. At the bottom of this report there is fine print saying if they notice damage after cleaning or couldn't notice it upon return but later notice it they may contact you. Then mid flight home I receive an email of a dent and damage greater than one inch. This is fraudulent and incorrect. I have all the video and all the receipts. This location pushed this lousy car on me in bad condition and then is trying to make me pay for other people's damages. I even pulled the vehicle into our rentals garage before a hurricane hit so it wouldn't get damaged. I go the extra mile to take care of peoples property and cars I rent and this is how I am treated? I will be contacting Hawaii state attorney general office and better business bureau. I will also be filing a report with the federal trade commission. -editing for the owner to also add this information- the front desk agent got all my info and waited with me at the desk for appx 30 minutes while the line filled up and then notified me he was waiting for my premium suv to become available but his manager was upstairs with the cars as someone called in sick. By this time the line was out the door. This was this past saturday. Then he put me in the light blue expedition that is dinged up all over the car. I take care of this car and it is unacceptable you attempt to charge me after this experience and for damage I didn't do I returned the car in the same condition I received it I have video. read more

If you bring your car back an hour late and Sixt will charge you a full day rental cost, but if their incompetence keeps you for 2.5 hours waiting, because your pre booked and prepaid car is not ready on time, they are going to give you a good will coupon of $30. Makes perfect sense right ? Don't go there, pick any other rental company, you will save time/money and actually be able to leave the airport driving and on time. Upon the return the station manager promised a full refund for the first day, that was 2 months ago, I am still waiting. #sixt - don't reply me that you are going to learn from this, it's an insult to anyone reading your comments. @Angelica - your manager didn't keep his promise and your corporate customers service was generous enough to offer me $30 coupon for 2.5 hours of waiting time, $12/hr.. read more

My husband and I rented a jeep from Sixt Honolulu International Airport in September 2026 for 7 days. On the second of the rental period we realized that the vehicle was infested with cockroaches. We purchased 6 sticky roach traps which caught approximately 100 cockroaches of all different sizes. My husband almost rear ended a vehicle when he had a cockroach crawling on his leg in traffic. We notified the employee of the cockroach infestation issue when we returned the vehicle and left the sticky traps in the vehicle for them to see. I reached out to the company on their website and went through their AI chat to finally be able to submit the complaint via email which included photos of the cockroaches caught in the stick traps. We did receive an apology email but when I asked to be at least reimbursed for the purchase of the roach traps, they offered a 30% discount on another vehicle rental to be used within 1 year. When we received the voucher it was actually for 15%. Second issue - When my husband checked out the vehicle at the rental counter he was advised that he could either prepay for fuel or return the car full. He also advised them that we had vehicle insurance that covered rental cars and that we did not need additional coverage. Unfortunately my husband did not double check the rental agreement before he signed it and they checked boxes that were for a Cover The Car plan and Prepaid Fuel. The end result was an additional $245.00 for the Cover The Car Plan and $110.04 for Prepaid Fuel. When I emailed Sixt advising them that we spent $80.00 fueling the vehicle before we returned it (their return summary even shows the fuel was 8/8) and asked for the $110.04 to be refunded to us, I received a reply that they could not refund us because the box on the agreement had been checked (purchased) for prepaid fuel and that we could have returned it without refueling it. I strongly advise people NOT to use this company! Their customer service addressing issues associated with their car rentals is terrible. Please make sure to check your rental agreement before signing it to make sure nothing was checked in the boxes that you do not want checked! read more

DO NOT REBT FROM HERE. They are scammers and commit fraud I rented a car for 28 days paid 1500 dollars an on the 26th day they charged me an additional 1500 dollars that left me about -1527 in my account. I told them on the phone a day before I didn't want to extend my rental over the phone the at I will do it on the 28th in person they said okay then the next day they charged me the same price for a month when I would have only needed the car for a week or so longer. They never told me that that's how they run things an everything is on a recorded line. I was left in shock at the grocery store with no way to get food for my family and no way to even clean out the car or fill up the tank to return it without a fee because they took all my money an left my account -1500. It was really quite awful. The price they showed at the counter was $80 more than what I had agreed to online, but it was a holiday weekend and I was in a bind so I went ahead. Then the vehicle was a completely different one from what I had chosen (Jeep Gladiator instead of a Toyota Tacoma-- I do not like driving Jeeps and the conformation is different in a number of ways). I checked on changing my return time and there was no increase in price from the already higher price, so I made the change. When I returned it, no agents were present for about 15 minutes. Then when I got the "final" bill, it was up another $55 to $260 for 25 hours! Moral of the story: avoid Sixt, but if you must, make sure you screen-shot the online quote and bring it with you to the rental site. read more

DO NOT RENT from this SCAM car rental company! Our very expensive rental in Honolulu stayed in the Hilton hotel garage all 5 nights we were there bc we weren't able to make it out. When we dropped the car off the girl there was incredibly rude to us and our two little children as we were unloading to leave. We asked if we were fine to go and she said yes and the we are sent a bill of almost $1600 for tiny microscopic scratches that could NOT have possibly been from us since the care never moved! We've rented from Sixt several times in the past but this will be the last as it's clear they're doing this shady move plenty of other renters. I rented a bmw x5 expecting a nice vehicle and all clean but I don't a vehicle infested with bugs as per the return agent they are called German cockroach. Just imagine from the sound of that. I spoke to one of the booth agent when I returned the vehicle and they said a manager will reach out and until now no communication has been made. I called customer service and they said wait 2 days... and still none... The check-in process was quite smooth. Our flight arrived a couple of hours before our car (a small SUV) was ready, so we were offered an alternative, a BMW 3 SUV. The agent gave me a discount, instead of $70 per day, it would be $35 per day! There was no mention of the word, "UPGRADE". I assumed the entire cost was $35 per day, so I agreed. Later, I found the $35 was ON TOP OF THE ARRANGEMENT I made online!! I left a review expressing my displeasure. The following day, the company rep called me. I described the events. The rep was a very pleasant young man, and he understood. He ended up removing the entire fee for the BMW! I rented a car from them yesterday, since my son just did and recommended this company. I noted significant dings, scratches, scuff marks all over the vehicle. I took a lot of pics before leaving the lot. I tried to report, but their website is cumbersome and handles one pic at a time. I didn't have 2 hours to upload all the pics in the parking lot. They're on my phone and the website shows numerous damage documentation. Today my son received an email that there is a scratch that he caused and must pay for. Look at all of the reviews. Either they gouge you with their vehicle coverage options/costs or, if you decline, routinely send customers notices of damage that the customer caused. In spite of the numerous damage reports on this car and pics I took, I'm expecting to receive the same email accusing me of damaging the vehicle. This is Honolulu, airport and Hickam AFB locations. Shame on you for scamming your customers, especially when you're doing this to veterans and their families. If I receive the same damage scam notification that you sent my son and many other customers that this is happening to, then this practice is deliberate and routine. If this gouging practice continues, as many of your former customers note in their comments, it is time for a class action lawsuit, especially in Hawaii where there are robust UDAP laws. read more

Beware this company, they will try to scam you and claim you "damaged" the car. We had our rental for about 5 days. Returned it and did a walk around WITH THE SIXT EMPLOYEE to check the vehicle for damages. He said everything looked great and we turned over the keys and flew home. I just received an email that they "found additional damages" on the car. They described this as a superficial scratch 10cm long on the front license plate. They sent me a photo of this "damage" and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, no evidence whatsoever of any sort of scratch. It just looks like a normal license plate. I've attached the photo they sent me. We won't ever be using Sixt again. I had a really frustrating experience with this rental company. I was given a vehicle with expired registration, which immediately created problems during my trip. Because of the liability, my hotel would not allow me to park the car there, which added unnecessary stress and inconvenience. I spent hours on the phone with customer service trying to get this resolved. Each time I was told the issue would be escalated and that a manager would follow up. That follow-up never happened. What's most disappointing is not just the initial mistake, but the complete lack of accountability afterward. There was no urgency, no resolution, and no communication despite multiple attempts on my end. This situation took time away from my trip and could have easily been avoided with basic attention to detail. I would strongly recommend double-checking your rental before leaving the lot if you choose to rent from here. When I dropped the car off I was told a manager would reach out to me. I have yet to receive any response. read more

Final chapter of the story...... After 2 full weeks, I was told that I am not responsible for any damage. The customer service people that I spoke with were rude and unhelpful. It took at least 20 calls before anyone answered and, when they did, i was told it is my responsibility to submit videos and photos. I took a long video that was far too large for their website to accept, so I needed to learn how to edit videos to smaller files. This is indeed the address where I have already sent my complaints. However, three days after my departure, you withdrew the reimbursement that had been made -- and even more. And today, a new explanation appears: so-called "fuel charges." The service@sixt.com team responded that these were fuel fees and that the matter was closed. Yet, on site, the rental agent clearly stated that everything was included, with no additional fees, and that the fuel was covered by Sixt. He also confirmed the reimbursement, explaining that it was simply a deposit. Therefore, there is no point in pretending to have a caring customer service in public comments when, in reality, your practices consist of taking back the amounts owed once customers are no longer present to contest them. This is a fraudulent company. I wish I knew before I rented with them. I picked up my rental at LAX, paid the extra insurance and $300 deposit. I returned the car fully gassed and the agent took pictures and told me everything was perfect and I should receive my $300 deposit within 3-5 business days. We'll, within 3 days, they charged my card another $120 and told me it's for the gas and insurance and also told me I will not be receiving my $180 deposit for another 16 days if everything goes OK on their end. AVOID!!!!! The worst experience I have ever had with a car rental company. I do not understand how there are so many positive reviews especially about the staff. Makes me think those were paid for. The negative reviews that I came across here are inline with my experience. Feels like their business is extortion. They scare you into buying their insurance. The rude staff at the counter went into detail how even the tiniest pinhead, barely visible damage will be documented as it "changes" the car and we may be charged for it. They do not have a minimum damage before damage is assessed to you. So any no matter how small damage will be counted against you. Other car rental companies will have an allowance that anything smaller than golf ball size will not be counted. They scare you that you will be penalized and charged up the "you know what" if you don't get their insurance. So you feel like you have to buy it. And from the other reviews here other people were seriously rolled over with insane damage fees. When we entered the rental office the line was long and not moving. Only one guy was at counter assisting two girls. He spent so much time flirting with them that the line stood still and was getting longer. Eventually another guy arrived and the line started moving. It took nearly 40 min for us to get the car. Then we spent 20 min documenting all the damage on the car to make sure they can't say anything about it. So instead of taking our tired kids to the hotel they not only had to sit in the rental office falling asleep for 40 min and then wait more while we had to meticulously document everything. Amazing start to a vacation. The car they provided was dirty and full of scratches. All rims were scratched up, seats dirty, and scratches throughout the car. read more

We usually rent our cars from Avis or National, but we forgot this time. We booked a car the same day, and the only SUV left was a BMW X3. The check-in process was easy, and the salesperson offered us an upgrade. Being so used to complimentary upgrades from our credit card, we didn't think twice. Unfortunately, there was a charge for upgrading to the BMW X5, which was our mistake for not asking. However, that turned out to be the least of our problems. Later that day, after finishing our hike at Koko Crater, we discovered cockroaches in the car as the sun went down. At first, it was just one, but soon they started to multiply! We ended up going to Safeway to buy traps and Raid. We were so relieved to return the car when we headed to the airport to go home. The manager refunded the cost of our upgrade, but the experience could have been better. Never again. I even have videos and pictures of these cockroaches. read more

DO NOT RENT WITH SIXT I rented through this location back in May. Everything was prepaid and I was sent multiple email confirmations that my balance was $0. THREE MONTHS LATER, they sent me a revised invoice claiming I had only partially paid and sneakily charged my bank $200+ without permission. I gave them calls over the span of 3 days. Customer service was rude, dismissive, and acted like they were doing me a favor by starting a 3-15 day refund process for that charge. They were unapologetic, refused to immediately provide me confirmation of the refund, and gave me excuses that any higher ups were always busy and unavailable. This feels dishonest and predatory. After seeing other reviews as well as the class action lawsuit they had to settle this year, it's clearly a pattern. Avoid Sixt at all costs. read more
