Shared office with Avis. Avis had maybe 1 or 2 customers and Budget had an entire line of 30 plus renters. Whole bunch of people in line, 9 or 10 customer service counters but only 2 or 3 open. Took a horribly long time just to get up to the counter. I ordered "Toyota Camry or similar" and was told they don't even carry Toyota's in their fleet. False advertising for sure!!! Thats not all....get up to the 4th level to get the car. They have a whole bunch of people waiting in the waiting area with seats and all.....not enough rental cars. Avis, on the other hand, had an entire parking lot full of cars and no customers. Budget had a whole bunch of customers and no cars. As they were checked in and run through the car wash, they were brought to the pick up area. Cars were a little beat up. People for sure busted up the bumper area trying to get their luggage in the trunk. I was thinking that they should have been upgrading customers with the cars they did have or something just to get them into their rental cars and out of the airport. Too many people waiting. Too long of a wait. A month ago we used Thrifty and they were awesome. Didn't think there would be this much of a difference. Will not use Budget again!!!!! and now that i am typing this review, i saw all the previous reviews. i should have checked the reviews BEFORE I made my reservation!!! was the cheapest. the gentleman was extremely helpful. he helped us instead of a vw jetta to a ford escape titanium eco boost without paying anymore when signing ip for their point program(not a credit card). HOWEVER... there were roaches present. GROSS, but i suggest u just pick up a bug bomb and vois la. AVOID this rental company!!! We rented a car that had to be returned the next day because it did not work properly. Wish this was the end of our issues but no. We got a flat tire in the 2nd car. We called our own AAA to have it fixed as there was no lug wrench in the trunk. The AAA driver advised us that the tires on the car were so bad it was unsafe to drive and we should take it back. We flew out the next morning so returned as planned. We told them when we turned it in that we had a flat and the donut was on the car and what the AAA driver said to us. Then we got a damage report showing low tire...well duh its a donut and a bill. We called and they said it was fixed until we got a bill this morning for $220 for tow and repair. Ummmm wait we called OUR AAA to get this fixed and there was no tow. What are you talking about?? What we learned is they rent unsafe cars and try to make you pay for the repairs that are needed. The front desk worker (older female) was absolutely awful, yelled at my daughter for doing noting wrong (she was literally standing next to me), yelled at me on the phone because she stupidly gave me the wrong directions (we were walking no less and she sent me to their depot on Lagoon instead of the airport pickup). Then, she called me an idiot because my PA drivers license has one address but I live at another here in Hawaii (I'm military and we moved, shocking). Never before have I experienced a rental car agency so incredibly poorly run -- and many reviewers over the last few weeks have complained of similar issues. The only reason I am giving 1 star is because I cant give 0 they suck!! They do not honor anything they state rates to change them they give confirmation numbers but they dont mean anything everytime I have gone to make a reservation there is an issue. If you decide to rent with them please keep this in mind and most of their representatives are poorly trained and have horrible attitudes. First time ever having a Rental car and the service and hospitality were amazing. Turrow was super good looking, like a young Dwayne Johnson with half the muscles but that same infectious smile. He got me a great deal compared to the other rentals and upgraded me from a Nissan Versa to a Ford Escape ingratitude of my military service. Do not pay for an SUV, chances are you won't get one! For my recent trip to Hawaii, I decided to upgrade to a SUV for my car rental. I found a good price using Budget near the Honolulu airport and was happy that I would get to cruise around the island in a larger, more comfortable vehicle. When we arrived in the evening after 9, I was assigned a Jeep Wrangler. I was supposed to get a "standard" SUV - a ford Edge or similar. We drove for half an hour to our hotel and we were tired from the 5 hour flight. It was a bumpy, uncomfortable ride as that vehicle is clearly for sports and rough terrain driving. My family was upset. The next day, I tried phoning the rental office several times and talked to the national customer service line, and there was NO ONE ANSWERING THE PHONE - EVER, at the local office. I drove half an hour back to the rental office and they had no standard SUVs. Rather than upgrade me to a premium or "Standard Elite" SUV, I was given a full size car - not what I paid for. I asked and could not be given a "likely" time that I could get the SUV I paid for, so I was stuck with the full size car for the rest of the trip. When I returned the car, I tried getting a refund back for the difference since I was given a lower category of vehicle - but they were not able to assist and said I had to follow up with the main customer service line. After returning home, I received a survey email from Budget where I took the time to detail everything they did wrong. The manager was apologetic and refunded me the difference. For that, I will rate 2 stars instead of 1. The problems with this location are (1) supply and demand, (2) resistance to upgrade your vehicle when they are low on supply, and (3) absent customer service - you can not reach by phone. With the high demand for vehicles you would think their revenue would support staffing someone to answer phones. There are location-specific issues that require someone local in customer service, and they do not provide this. read more

Because there was no lug wrench in the car, we had to call my personal AAA to have it changed. The driver that changed the tire said they were ALL unsafe due to their condition. Now the line has doubled so I feel really bad for everyone behind us who will be waiting at least an hour just to check in. I rent for our company and I can tell you that we give them too much business than they deserve. First off, they gave us a car with an expired registration, safety check and insurance! We only found out after a diligent staff checked the paperworks the following week. When I called them, the phone was busy all morning. When I finally got a ringtone, if you select an option to speak with a representative, somebody picks up on the other line, then hungs up. SMH! I finally decided to select reservation, and sure enough, someone picked up the phone. He then tells me that he can't give me a car because there are no car available. I told him, if I go to their location, should I expect no cars at all in the lot? He finally admitted that there are no cars with the same rate. I insisted to speak with a supervisor who then tells me he will document the issue. I expect to exchange this car at the same rate. The Chevy Malibu we rented was very unsafe to drive. The gears felt as though it needed to be shifted (automatic) and it constantly pulled hard to the right which made driving to our destination (Ko Olina) very scary so we returned it and Lori the manager was able to take care of the charges indicating that there was an electrical error as we used a Hilton Honors voucher. Avis/Budget Honolulu airport cars should be checked regularly prior to renting them out to customers for everyone's safety. When luck is not on your side, having someone with helping hands is always a ray of hope that everything is gonna be okay. My sister's car had broken down, and since I worked for the travel industry for 13 years, she called me for advice on who she should rent a car. The problem is: 1. She only has a debit card 2. She is from this island Normally car rentals will not rent a car to you if you are using a debit card and from the same island. The reason is they want to make sure you are going to return their car which means you must show a return airline ticket that matches the return date of the car. I suggested a few places and went with her. Hubby dropped us off at the airport and left us there to go to a basketball game confident everything was gonna go well. Anyhoo, to make a long story (and yes this can get very long) short, let's just say the "Brand A" car rental companies was unable to help us because: 1. No return airline ticket 2. $500+ hold on your debit card (really? who does that) + $120 per day car rental!!!!! 3. Even before they told us the price, they smirked, shook their head, and already had that look of "you sure you want to know how much its gonna be? Because i don't think you can afford it". We went to 3 car rental companies and was ready to give up. There we were, stuck at the airport, with no car. We were ready to call the taxi to go home, when I remembered having such a great relationship with Budget way back when I was working for the travel industry. We walk in and was welcomed by 4 good looking guys all smiling back at us ;-) Feeling a bit intimidated, we walked towards the counter and agent Robert assisted us. I gave him our sob story and explained how my sister only has a debit card and lives on the same island. And he gently responds, "that's okay". I look to the left of him and his fellow co-agent nods his head as a gesture of "don't worry, he got you!" Okay so maybe I was looking cute on this day because these guys were just telling me things that was too good to be true. Haha. Okay okay....moving on Josie.. So he offers us 1. $30 per day for a Toyota Corolla car rental 2. $200 deposit on debit card for Mastercard... FYI: Visa debit is only a $100 deposit 3. Credit check THAT'S IT!!! So easy! So simple, I actually thought someone was gonna come and say, "JUST KIDDING!!" The process took no longer than half an hour and we hurried to the car so they wouldn't chase us and change their mind. But no one did. Gosh I'm glad we didn't opt to give up and take the taxi home. Car was new. Clean. SInce then, my sister had to extend her contract twice with ease because her broken car was not yet fixed. Robert & Budget RAC certainly made an unfortunate situation much more easier to deal with. That truly is Customer Service and will definitely consider renting from them not just for unfortunate situations but also for travel purposes. read more
