Gummy Bears: Quality Candy is easily one of my favorite when it comes to having a superior class of candy and their gummy bears are no exception. I was surprised by the multitude of flavors and colors that came in the pack. As you can see from the pic there are eleven different varieties. A high level of detail is also put into each bear as their individual features are easily distinguished. What really sets these apart from other gummy bears though is the incredible texture. I went in to get some "special treats" for Easter. The reason I mention this is because the store is very pricey and unless it's a special occasion, we really can't afford to get their candy. The great thing is that the candy is absolutely delicious and so full of quality ingredients. They are freshly made ,smooth and creamy. Sooooo wonderful. If we could afford to have it always-- we would. I got six marshmallow eggs and that was $14 plus tax. I also got very tiny mini solid bunnies and they were $5.15 each and a tiny bag of small chocolate foil covered eggs also $5.15. There was a small discount on the bag items and so I still spent $30 for a very tiny bit of candy. But it WAS mouthwateringly delicious. They had neat choices for the marshmallow eggs. I got just the standard regular marshmallow with milk chocolate covering, but they had raspberry marshmallow, mint marshmallow and maple marshmallow in either dark or milk chocolate. What would have really made my day was if they had a variety pack of the eggs. They could do a variety of the flavors of marshmallow and just stick with either dark or milk chocolate covering. Then we could've tried the mint, Maple, and raspberry. That would've really been great. They also could have had some other assortments of candy is bagged into tiny bags so that those could be purchased for an Easter basket-ready to take. For example a few pieces of fairy food or a few pieces of toffee. But there weren't any extra small bags of items to purchase. They have a counter with many pieces that can be purchased by the pound , but I didn't want to be picking out all of these different tiny things. I would've appreciated some bagged to go type items. Overall the candy was absolutely fantastic, it was just the price and amount that you get for the price that is hard to swallow. It was a special treat and appreciated. read more

A tradition for us every year is getting our maple cream eggs from Buddy Squirrel in St. Francis. It was a bit different this year with the Corona virus, they had curbside pick up. I ordered the day before online. I felt like it went down like one of those drug deals you see on tv. We honked the horn and they went to get our order. There was some confusion though. I did select store pick up but my order said it wss shipped? I didn't pay for shipping but will happily accept more eggs. It did take about 10 mins yo get our order straightened out. I grew up with Quality Candy - my grandmother (God bless her) was strongly opposed to crappy chocolate, so she filled our stockings and Easter baskets with delights from Quality. Clearly, my grandma rules....but I digress. Quality Candy was purchased by Buddy Squirrel a few years back and for the most part, they no longer use the "Quality" name as Buddy Squirrel is more recognizable outside of MKE. That makes me sad, but I'm happy that the actual candy is still the same stuff that rotted my teeth back in the day. This review is for the factory store, which is located in a small business park in St. Francis. It's kind of hard to find, and has wonky hours but it's worth a bit of extra effort. All the confections here are made in the Belgian style, so expect creamy, sweet chocolates vs. Cacao-rich dark candy. They do offer plant tours from time to time, if you're interested. QC is well known for fairy food, mint meltaways, pecan tads, chocolate covered toffee and incredible whipped creme eggs at Easter. They also offer nuts and popcorn for poor souls who don't care for chocolate. Staff at this location is very helpful and will point you to the best stuff. Prices are reasonable, considering the quality level and there is a small "seconds table" at the back. Tuesdays are "senior" day so all y'all who are 55+ get 20% off. Candy and popcorn are good but too expensive. The ladies that work at the main factory location aren't personable at all, don't make you feel valued as a customer either. I feel like they replaced all the friendly workers with snobs within the last 2 years. They also don't offer discounts unless you're a senior or military. Had I posted a review of Buddy Squirrel a couple years ago, it would have been without question a 5 star review. As it stands now, however... On the plus side, their candies are indeed delicious. I highly recommend their whipped cream eggs, which are a must every Easter, as well as their solid chocolate rabbits. Their toffee is also delightful, as are their various filled chocolates. They have also put in a display of discounted imperfect candies that are no less delicious than their standard fare. But... With the recent switch in ownership, there have been significant changes to their traditional product offerings. I used to be able to stock my kids Easter baskets exclusively with this store's products. Not anymore. The smaller items were the first to go. In particular, their glorious pectin jelly beans vanished last year. These were the ultimate in pectin jelly beans, but now we have been forced to make do with other brands. The selection of molded Easter chocolates has also shrank precipitously. Their raspberry sticks, a year round favorite, are gone as well. And this year? The selection of whipped cream eggs is down from 6 to 3 flavors. The wonderful caramel marshmallow eggs and the buttercream eggs have disappeared completely. Their new line of Joseph and Lotte candies are nice, but not really unique in the way these vanished products were. Buddy Squirrel products, both in their present incarnation as well as when they were Quality Candy had been a staple for my parents, myself and my children. This is our go to candy store for special occasions and Holidays. It is by far the best chocolate we've ever had! When I was a child my parents always bought solid milk chocolate Easter bunnies for our Easter baskets, we did the same for our kids, now our kids are buying for our grandchildren. I live in Brown Deer. I went to get some popcorn. First, the person working there (only 1 person there) had no personality AT ALL She simply was not a HAPPY person. I bought the large cheese popcorn ($16.00). The popcorn was so STALE it was not edible. I should have checked it before I left but I had bought popcorn there before and never had an issue. I am super MAD and not only will I not go back, I am going to make sure I tell everyone I know not to go to this store. read more

The quality of their products is wonderful, however their shipping skills for out of state customers is terrible along with customer service. I ordered over $80 in candies and had them shipped to me in NV. Their packing of the candy was so poor that the bags of fairy food smashed against each other and came in mostly pieces. Yes, USP is partly at fault for their handling. I wrote Buddy Squirrel to tell them and all I got was an apology and they blamed UPS. Since their were mostly gifts, I could not give them to those folks out of embarrassment for how bad they looked. No offer to replace or refund monies for the products. I've been buying their products for more than 40 years and continued after moving out of WI. I have now changed my mind about all future orders. The candies tasted good, if you like crumbs. A simple packing method would have been bubble wrap around each bad or packing worms between packages to prevent hitting each other. Not a good value for out of state shipments. read more

Perhaps I am just nostalgic for this place as it was always an exciting treat during my childhood. It was Quality Candy but now it's Buddy Squirrel I guess. I think some people assume that this is an outlet because it is attached to the factory. I don't believe that is the case. The best you can hope for is to find some Halloween candy in December for half off like I did. You will pay more for their chocolate and nuts but I believe they are worth every penny. The jumbo cashews are addictive. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their chocolate items because well...they are chocolate and delicious. Bring lots of cash or your cards because you will drop some coin here! read more

Quality Candy is undoubtedly the best candy you can buy in Milwaukee. Done. I don't need to say more...but I'm gonna! The milk chocolate is absolutely astounding. Love, love, love, love, anything they make with it. I'm a chocolate junkie and this is my ultimate fix. Sometimes a basic chocolate bar will cover my cravings, but when I'm needing that all consuming, delicious beyond comprehension chocolate high, I get myself to a Quality Candy shop. This store is also where they produce most of their products. You can see the work rooms from the inside of the store. They sell everything they make here, so if you're looking for something obscure or special I would recommend coming here than other locations. They have fickle hours so be sure to go during daytime business hours. PLEASE NOTE: The prices are a bit high compared to generic chocolate, so be prepared for it. I can assure you: It's absolutely worth it. A good way to circumvent this and get a big bang for your buck is to buy the big white bags they sell full of their screw-up/reject chocolates. They're exactly like what you'd buy for full price except they just look malformed. You get a huge variety of different chocolates, large quantity of product for a really good price compared with their usual product. The taste is always amazing, don't fear that since you're getting the ugly chocolates they have any less worth. Trust me, I've bought these bags many a time. Recommendations: mint meltaways, milk chocolate caramels, peanut butter cups, chocolate covered pretzels, health, toffee, turtles, chocolate marshmallow Easter bunnies (at Easter time), candy ribbons, chocolate covered oreos, bridge mix, chocolate covered raspberry and orange sticks, cheese popcorn (amazing!!!) and of course any of the mixed truffle boxes they sell. read more

Terrible customer service. I received a box of chocolates that tasted like it was expired. It was supposed to be toffee but it was all mushy with a rotten flavor. I contacted the store and sent pictures to them as they requested. They said they would replace it and to just throw it out. I did as they said and never received a replacement. I contacted them 3 times by email as they asked me to and called. No replies and they totally blew me off. I am shocked at the lack of customer service. Stopped in for their annual Easter open house. There was a huge line for the tour but it moved quickly. The tour was interesting you were able to see workers making cheese popcorn and chocolate eggs. There were opportunities for pics with buddy squirrel and the Easter bunny. They offered free samples of caramel corn and whipped cream eggs. The caramel corn is super expensive you get a better deal on popcorn at the movie theater. The chocolates are tasty and they offered discounts for the open house. Buddy Squirrel charges $40 to ship POPCORN packaged in BAGS not containers. $40! The shipment also takes almost two weeks to arrive, which is much too long. There was no "Golden Ticket" required Sunday at the annual Buddy Squirrel Easter open house, and with ideal weather nearly 600 people were already eager to take the tour when the doors opened five minutes late just past 9 a.m. Also running late was Buddy Squirrel himself, missing about 100 or so folks as he took his place near the entry walk for photos with children of all ages. Hello I said, and in his giant costume he waved back. Well-arranged and with plenty to see, we saw countless happy faces moving in both directions. As we carefully walked amongst the crowd the line soon stopped discovering a photo gallery to have your picture taken with Mr. & Mrs. Easter Bunny the cause. We by-passed dozens of families at this point. Passing windows where you can see how the different candies are made helped my wife and I imagine how touring Warren Buffet's See's Candies in LA might have been like. It was the only destination we didn't make while out there in February. Entering the "Popcorn Shop" we were overwhelmed at the extremely high prices for the cheese, caramel, and plain popcorn. A 12 ounce bag of caramel corn was $8.99 less a whooping 10% discount, no senior citizen card required and no purchase by us. However, we still received both a mini chocolate Easter egg and a 1/2 ounce bag of caramel corn for coming. And speaking of coming, the line outside when we were departing at 9:40 a.m., appeared at about 500 people and the cars seeking parking places were now everywhere. Glad we came at the Opening and thank you Buddy Squirrel, you are a wonderful Community Citizen. Next year I won't forget my camera! read more

By far the factory store is much better than the mall stores. The women were so happy and very helpful. They advised that the store carries more than what is shown online. Since we live in MA they gave us their direct store number and for us to call in our order. Samples galore. There is no wonder why I still love QC after moving away from the area. I am a cheesaholic. I live in LA. & my store went out of biz about 15 yrs ago. I found a new place in Phoenix. Sadly he closed about 4 years ago. I have searched high & low & tested many brands.also. Most YUK. Some were good but not as good as I used to get & I settled on one of these. Low & behold I was in Avila, a small tourist town in Ca & saw this on the shelf. i love quality candy. It is the best chocolate there is. My family has been buying, fairy food, chocolate covered cherries, coconut nest, nuts popcorn etc. since I was a little girl. It will always be the best candy you can buy. I also go to the "outlet" store in St. Francis. Great little store the people are friendly. Here is the problem and the reason I will not be going back. I went yesterday and there was not another customer in the store. I remember having to wait in long lines at this time of year, as they only make fairy food at this time of year. The fairy food and chocolate covered cherries my family loves so much are $31.95 a pound. I don't know about you but for that price I have to find something else i like. No wonder the store was empty at their busiest time of year. I work, $32.00 a pound. I can't afford that. That is ridiculous. I thought last year at 20 something a pound was pushing it.
