Corn Fritters
Sheila P.

Tried this place out for the first time and had a blast with my friends! We got waited on by some really nice servers, who were kind enough to suggest the top items on the menu. As a vegetarian, there were plenty of items that appealed to me, or could be made veggie if requested. We tried the honey cornbread, corn fritters (with the roe on the side), and the brownie for dessert. My friends also ordered a few other items on the menu that I couldn't have, but they seemed to really enjoy. Everything was spectacular, esp. the cornbread and the corn fritters. Inside wasn't too busy when we went on a Sunday evening. I was able to find parking fairly easily outside. The seats inside were great.

We stopped by buddy after grabbing dinner nearby and loved the vibe inside. The bartender was so nice and recommended us some great choices. We both loved the orange chenin blanc that he recommended and had a great time here!

After a mini golf game with my husband and our daughter, we went to Buddy at 6pm (I had booked a table in advance) to enjoy a glass of wine and a few small bites. We ordered the Hokkaido scallop crudo, which was very good, the trumpet mushrooms, an interesting combination that I ended up really liking, and the corn bites, which were absolutely delicious. We also really enjoyed the wine we chose. Overall, it was a lovely experience and definitely something we would happily do again.

Im so happy i chose to come to Buddy! This is a great place to catch up with a friend or go on a date. The restaurant is so cute. The food is amazing and the drink selection is large enough to have a choice, but not too large that you feel overwhelmed. A friend and I came to share a few bites, all of which were vegetarian and a glass of wine, and I loved every dish! We had the corn fritters, I of course removed the fish row on top . It was so nice like a doughnut and the sauces paired so well with it. It did not feel oily. We also got the trumpet mushrooms, which were just such an experience flavour wise they were sweet salty. Had Asian flavours had western flavours. I was confused in a good way. We also got the brownie which was the only dessert option and was just amazing! We were really impressed by the source on top which taste like melted ice cream, but thick. All the servers were so kind and attentive. I'll 100% be back and I would 100% order all of these dishes again!

Came here on a Thursday night around 9 with no wait, they close at 10pm but we were able to order food & drinks still. The space is nice and relatively quiet at this time, making good for conversation. 20% tip automatically added. My group ordered a glass of wine each and the corn fritters, trumpet mushrooms, and cucumber and stone fruit salad. Everything was pretty solid, but the sauce of the trumpet mushrooms and the cucumber salad were perfection!

Buddy is one of many natural wine bars in the city. It features a classy yet comfortable interior and an enticing menu of small bites. Unfortunately, I left Buddy disappointed by both the wine selection and the quality of the food. For one, the wine list is quite small and not descriptive enough for newer wine drinkers (myself included). I also found the staff unhelpful in guiding me toward a glass that suited my taste. That's not to say the wines themselves are bad. I just wish they took more care in helping customers make an informed choice. The bites were another letdown. While none of them were terrible, the quality didn't justify the price. Overall, I'd recommend skipping the food and perhaps stopping by only if you already know a thing or two about wine. Corn Fritters: A warm, hearty, and visually appealing dish to start with. The garnishes are the saving grace here; the basil oil adds a herbaceous flair, while the roe brings a satisfying umami kick. Fried Chicken Wings: An unpleasant dish. The exterior forms a dense crust that's genuinely difficult to bite through, and the flavor overall is far too tart. Trumpet Shrooms: A delight after the last dish. The mushrooms are wonderfully meaty, and while the accompaniments are nice, they don't do much to elevate the dish further.

Charred cabbage..oh so good!

Great food, service, and ambiance. The quality of food was amazing and came with great drizzles/sauces. I would have loved some crostini or single slice of bread to mop up the sauce.. could not justify paying $9 for 3 slices of acme bread. Perfect for winding down from a long day or visiting with friends.

It's one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood for a nice glass of wine and appetizers. They change the menu every certain time. The quality is high, with a new American style. Great date spot too!

A friend and I came to get a few bites and taste some wines. The bread and butter were lovely, and overall we enjoyed the food and drinks. It was later when we came so it was quieter and not as crowded, which we liked.

Super cute wine bar in the Mission! The wine was fine, the staff were extremely nice/helpful, and it was a fun restaurant for a Tuesday night drink. We got there around 7:00 and were seated immediately. Our server recommended the mushrooms and they were DELICIOUS. The mushrooms were a good texture, the walnut salsa added a little crunch and nuttiness, the french feta was soft and delicious, and the honey gave some sweetness at the end. Truly my favorite part and I could not recommend them more.

I arrived early on a Friday evening and the outside seating was already filled. Inside was lovely and intimate - a friend and I sat on a booth table. We came in for some light bites and a glass of wine. Their selection is really lovely and they let us try a couple of options before settling on an orange wine. To eat, we had the trumpet mushrooms, corn fritters, lamb shank, and panna cotta. The trumpet mushrooms knocked me out (in a good way), and I'll never stop dreaming about these. The mushrooms are a little heavier but paired with a nice, creamier sauce and a slight sweetness from the feta and the nuts were perfection. The panna cotta was also amazing - slightly tart from the passion fruit and light. The perfect end do a phenomenal meal. The service, the vibe, the food - absolutely stunning and would definitely come back with my partner next time!

Super cozy restaurant with a romantic ambiance! Fun dishes to share with tasty flavors! Good service.

Stuffed Squid with duck fried rice

Ilna at Buddy Resy Reservation: Came here for dinner under a reservation for "Ilna at Buddy" on a Sunday night. Enjoyed the vibes and atmosphere and music(somewhat loud and low lighting). We tried the scallops & tostada(first photo), stuffed squid with duck fried rice (2nd photo), and short rib over risotto(3rd photo). Our favorite dish was the stuffed squid :). Overall the experience was great, wait staff were attentive, but small bites are just not our favorite style of meals. Can't fault Ilna, so I give Ilna at Buddy a 5/5

Charging the $10 event fee on discretion before the posted event start time seems... shady? illegal? My two friends got in a few minutes before with no cover. I was dealing with a bike lock while they went in. We were not there for the event but rather as volunteers from the weekly cleanup refuse crew in the Mission. You get perks as a thank-you for doing your part in making the City a cleaner place. We had just had a lovely time at another participating business (Beehive) and planned on Arcana being our final stop. Thankfully I was able to use the restroom without a fee, with my gear held up outside by the security team. While waiting in the restroom line, I told a staff member about all this, and the worker seemingly went up to the front to find out what's going on. The line took a few minutes, my friends also bumped into me, and I told them I'd likely wait for them outside the business post-restroom while they finished their wine. Already reported to the Mayor's Office. Maybe I'll add BBB. Should be honest and equitable! Four out of 200+ reviews by me have been one star, so I rarely share negativity. It's all rather unfortunate as other visits here went off without an issue. I warned a group of four about all this while I waited out front, and after talking to the front door folks, they left and thanked me for the advice. Please be careful if you visit here. . . .

Atmosphere is dim, perfect for a date or hanging with friends. Good music. Entire front of house is run by husband wife owners Joel and Natalia. They are both so friendly and accomodating, making the experience warm. Joel is the former wine director at La Mar and is very experienced. We ordered a wine flight and let Joel choose our three pours, all of which were fantastic. Favorite was a Domaine des Aubuisieres "Cuvee de Silex" Vouvray. - cheese board - seasonal cheeses and jams with sourdough that complimented the wine nicely - cebiche - market fish, maine scallops, octopus, leche de tigre - fresh fish with a bit of a kick

We stopped in over Labor Day weekend and I was actually surprised by how quiet it was, which made it a nice place to sit and enjoy a glass without feeling crowded or rushed. Where they lost me was the wine pricing. The by-the-glass prices are pretty steep, with most around $16-$20 and Champagne at $25. I'm completely fine paying more at a wine bar for the atmosphere, service, and experience, but knowing what some of these bottles actually retail for, the markup felt excessive for what was being poured. They do offer a full food menu and some of it sounds interesting, but I wasn't impressed enough with the wine experience or value to want to stay and try the food, so I can't speak to that. I'm glad I finally checked Frenchie out after seeing it online so much. It's a cute space and I can see the appeal, but for me the value just isn't there at these prices

Equally distributed ingredients throughout the burrito so every bite is deliciously filled. No mouthfuls of just tortilla. The sauce is a must. It gives the extra little kick you're hoping for. You order outside so the vibes are whatever the streets are giving you that day but the one man show at the door is funny and patient. He didn't seemed rushed or flustered. When people said they found one of the best breakfast burritos at Bodega I first thought they must not be from San Francisco and they must be somewhere in Eastern United States where they call any corner store a Bodega. Then I was thinking they were referring to Bodega the Vietnamese restaurant in SF. I then thought it couldn't be the Hummus Bodega on Geary boulevard or Coffee Bodega in the Marina. I then thought the most of these best breakfast burritos are in the Mission District. I finally got to find out it's a bar called Bodega North Beach which sells breakfast burritos only on Saturday mornings. On a Fall stroll on a sunny morning I landed at the North Beach a pickle ball throw away from Washington Square Park and lots of restaurants with Angel hair pasta. There was no inside in the morning because it's all to go orders. I decided to try their chorizo and sausage breakfast burritos. The sausage breakfast sausage with avocado ,eggs, and a bit flakey potatoes like some in SF. The chorizo breakfast burrito was savory but a bit tangier and the sauce enhanced the burrito flavor. It's one of the top breakfast burrito in SF but it's a worthy contender and easily a top ten in the city. Wish it was more cheesy like some in SF. San Francisco is a city is small in size but when it comes to restaurants it packs a punch that's "mega "there is always good food from Chestnut street to Van Ness to Irving and "Noriega" which is a block away from a street called " Ortega" but you won't find this salsa in a jar because their salsa is made in house at a bar which sells good breakfast burritos on the avenue of Columbus called "Bodega" Bodega North Beach is located a few blocks where Bruce Lee ( RIP) was born who also played on TV the character "Kato " if you go to North Beach in SF you will find dozens of restaurants that offer Angel hair and fettuccine "Alfredo"the breakfast burrito at Bodega has a bit of egg ,avocado, and "potato" and a hint of "tomato "
