Food wasn't very good. Order a half of a hot turkey sandwich because the waitress said the full portion was very big. Was hardly any turkey no mashed potatoes so had fries instead. We also ordered the Ruben. Wasn't impressed with that. Not much of anything in-between the bread. Bread was greasy. Waitress never came back once we got our food so couldn't say anything. We're not from around here. Came to Bucks Restaurant on a recommendation from the proprietor of an antique shop in Negaunee because we're not from around here. So far, so good. Our server, Sandy, was very patient with our questions, as you see, we're not from around here. The wife ordered the 2 piece "Broasted" Chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. I ordered the "Missouri Special", Sliced Beef, "cudhigi" patty, fried onion, mushrooms, Swiss cheese and pizza sauce. Sandy said it was a popular local choice. The chicken was FANTASTIC. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was Really Good. Even the chicken SKIN was great. The Missouri Special: At first, the pizza sauce taste is a little odd, then the grilled onion taste hits and it starts making sense, then the sausage... It all comes together. This is the kind of place where all the locals go, but not so much a draw for tourists. I have been here a few times, and only for breakfast. My yooper roots scream for a potato sausage link for breakfast! It was quite good to be honest. The staff seemed to know everyone in the restaurant on a first name basis and the service was prompt, pleasant but not in your face. This is a very nice community restaurant that serves good basic food in big quantities. Nothing fancy, the locals eat here and think we were the only tourists. My husband had white fish - all you can eat for $9.99 and I had wonderful meatloaf. Doggy bags brought home more than half our meals. They had at least 7 types of potatoes! Four of them were versions of French fries. They do not accept credit cards but take cash and checks. They have an ATM as you enter. We were told they have great and huge breakfasts. read more

Awesome Place! We had a tournament in ishpeming and showed up with about 10 adults and 13, 9 year old boys! They were able to accommodate us with no problem and even had a big table for just the boys to sit at. I don't know how the waitresses did it, but was able to remember each boy to their parents and got them the right orders. Food was good old style diner food! nothing healthy but very tasty! So when reading the bad review, I noticed most came from yuppie millennials who are looking for tofu wraps. read more

One of the cooks picked up raw chicken without gloves and continued cooking other food without washing his hands! Visited Ishpeming in May of 2015. Had lunch here. It was some of the best fish I've had in a long time. Returned two more times and had some of the worse fish I've ever had. My last visit got me sick within 10 minutes. Even tried breakfast here. Biscuits and gravy with two poached eggs. Cold gravy and eggs. Wait staff is always running around. They will cook it how you want it, and as much of it as you want; and man is it great. I've eaten there several times just for convenience. They consistently skimp on the meat. I've had breakfast (skimp on meat and eggs) and sandwiches. Yesterday had a gyros and my family had other sandwiches. They actually placed a small sandwich on a full plate with NOTHING else! No chips, fries, etc. and charged a high price for it; almost $8!! The gyros had two very thin slices of meat on a pita with nothing else on the plate. There is just no excuse for such greed, especially in a small town like Ishpeming. The waitress was rude and made no attempts to be friendly. She insisted in trying to take our plates before we had even finished with the meager meals. I was so hungry when I left, I had to go to another restaurant for an actual meal. I would NEVER recommend that anyone eat there. In My Opinion (IMO), I Wish I could give it zero stars. I brought my family here for Sunday brunch after church. We arrived right after church on Sunday and beat the rush. The place was mostly empty yet somehow, someway it took them 20 minutes to bring us menus. It took 30 minutes to bring us a coffee and 3 waters. It took another ten minutes to get creamer and place orders (that's 40 minutes to get drinks, menus and place orders). Then...we waited. After an hour of waiting (60 minutes) we asked about the food and were told that it was being made now and that our order would be there shortly (we ordered scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, a simple omelet and hash-browns. We watched as table after table were seated, ordered and were served yet we waited and waited and got....nothing. This isn't a big restaurant. There are only approximately 12-15 tables in the entire place....and a very short counter for single orders. Yet, they couldn't manage it. After 90 minutes we had no food and no service and nothing but excuses from the wait staff so we left. The only positive note was that they didn't charge me for the coffee but I got the very distinct impression from the attitude of management that they were the sort who would try to accuse us of not paying so I left money anyway. IMO, This place is DIRTY. The tables stay uncleansed for hours. The plates and silverware is filthy. The mugs and glasses are caked with crusty food. The kitchen deserves a health inspection and I can only imagine they have somebody paid off or the inspector is overworked and hasn't inspected in years based on the 100s of health code violations I saw when I went to the counter to tell them we were leaving and ask for my coffee tab. I would review the food but we NEVER GOT ANY!!! But everyone in town I've spoken with since has assured me that to eat there would risk health and happiness so...perhaps that was a blessing? Further, IMO they only had 2 servers during a time they KNOW is always a rush time (Sunday brunch). But the Manager (I assume she was the manager as she stood around angrily snapping at staff In an imperial draconian fashion) refused to budge or to help in any meaningful manner. Rather, she gave us the impression that she was too important to pitch-in or to help and that we, as customers, weren't deserving of her time. But here's the good news IMO. When things are this bad IMO, there is only room for improvement. Perhaps they should watch some "Bar Rescue" episodes. Apparently, Buck's doesn't believe in numbering their tables, or using P.O.S. Cash-registers. They write everything out then spend time guessing where the order came from. So, get a Point of Sale system and start using it. Give each table a number so staff know where orders came from and where food is going to. Wait staff is minimal....so they could hire more servers. Kitchen staff looked either exhausted, inebriated, hung-over or...who knows? Get some trained cooks. Have the Manager step-in and help rather than shout at staff. Re-arrange the dining room so that servers can actually get from the kitchen to the tables without asking patrons to move when there is nowhere for them to move to. Place silverware, napkins and glasses as well as cleaning towels/washcloths in a dedicated serving area so servers can clean and set tables in a timely fashion instead of running back and forth to set tables. Give the servers trays to carry meals instead of having them use their hands. Use clean washcloths and discard dirty washcloths...as per health code. Have a waiting area and take down the names of those waiting for a table so you don't lose track of who came in or when. Buy some new tables and chairs (the old ones are falling apart. Clean the service area and maintain the kitchen as per code. Discard un-needed materials and trash. Ditch the ATM (it takes up too much space in the entryway) and start accepting credit cards. Few people carry cash now (get relevant). Clean and Maintain the bathrooms...I mean YUCK! Don't serve clients out of order. Serving tables out of order while prior customers wait for menus is rude and creates friction. Going out to eat is meant to be fun, not a stressful experience IMO. Bucks was by far the very worst restaurant experience I have EVER had in my opinion. And most importantly..... In My Opinion, you should apologize when you seat a family of four with an additional small child and ignore them and leave them waiting 90 minutes to be served as you wait on customer after customer after customer after customer (9 tables in all, we counted)...all of whom came in far later. Because anything less is just plain immoral and we just might start to question if it had something to do with the fact that most of the members of the ignored family are of a non-white ethnicity. Or you could just save us the time and stress and post a sign clearly stating who is welcome and who isn't. read more

Had breakfast here and I am becoming less than happy with the place. I have eaten here several times throughout the year and the place seems to be sliding down hill slowly. The only thing that came quicker than my breakfast was the bill. The food.was good,my eggs were over cooked, though and a bit on the high end for pricing overall. Service is definitely not high on the agenda by any means. Took my order, delivered my order, the check and refilled my coffee once and I don't think she spoke much more than a dozen words or so. The place wasn't busy and I don't expect a lengthy banter, but I didn't get the feeling that she was.a happy camper there. Brought me a bottle of hot sauce, the bottle was dirty from bottom to top. I don't understand how you can bring a bottle that your hands stick to with a good 1/4-1/2 inch of crud under a cap that won't close and think that is okay to give to a customer. Another hint, clean the salt and pepper shakers. Food three , Service two , Cleanliness one . I will give them one more shot and after that if there isn't any improvement I will find somewhere else to spend my money and time. read more
