Food was fabulous. Our group had everything from salads, burgers and chicken wings. All were tasty and served quick. Our server Becca was so sweet and attentive. I have missed having service this well! Well done Becca! When leaving, I left my purse hanging on my chair. Ugh!! I called the next day and sure enough the purse was found and cared for until I could retrieve it. It was never touched and nothing missing. After trying a few Burgers/Sandwiches of the Week, I have to put this review out at a full five stars. We've gone to Jackson's Pit a few times and are consistently leaving fat, dumb and happy. The food is always well-prepared and balanced, the 'of the Week' selections are unique and, frankly, half of the reason that we keep coming back. The local beer scene is well-represented (taps and bottles) and rotates to keep bringing new brews to try. Taco Tuesdays are a great deal and a lot of fun with the other regulars. Regardless of the up charge, get the fries; you will not be disappointed. I'm stingy and picky, so you know those fries are worth it if I say so. Happy Holidays to Everyone at Jackson's Pit! Consistent! Great food. We have had most of the items on the menu -- and never fail to deliver. The burgers are some of the best -- and the sides never disappoint! Loved the food and service was quick. The nachos were pretty good, just your standard nacho but the wings were immaculate. They were big wings which was definitely reflected in the price but worth it. We got the Jackson pit bbq which tastes like a sweet, vinegar based bbq and the sriracha Buffalo which had a nice balance of chili and Buffalo flavor with a hint of sweetness. I live in the area and we don't have many options for eating out. The food is average. The bar staff are amazing. If there's a night with live entertainment, it gets pretty packed and too loud to have a conversation. Awesome local bar with choice of decent food. read more

Food is good depending on what you get, a little pricey on some items. I've tried various things and like some more than others. The burgers are so so. They look better than they taste and are not very juicy; they appear to be pre-frozen. The service is a hit and miss. I went there on my lunch break when there was maybe 8 people: 5 at the bar, 3 at a high top by the bathrooms. There was a bartender yacking with local regulars and two female servers. I walked in and sat at a high top. The bar tender looked at me, I nodded and smiled. Both servers looked up at me from their phones and them continued playing with their phones. No one greeted me or approached me. I sat for 12min, started timing after 5min. Still no acknowledgment, no menus or water, etc. I finally got up and casually walked to the door, waiting for the bartender to ask." Sir, did anyone wait on you yet?" nope. I walked over to give bakery/cafe next door and had a awesome bowl of soup and a sandwich. I won't be back. Clearly they have people their just collecting a paycheck and don't give a crap about the success of the business. read more

I wish I would have taken some pictures. The bar has such a familiar yet unique feel. Just loved it! The service was hands down the best of anywhere I've been up here yet. The food.... delicious. I ordered the chef salad. Considering the huge portion of chili fries that came as our appetizer, I shouldn't have been shocked that the salad was larger than the size of my head! The salad was made from a fresh lettuce blend (no brown or wilted pieces to be found), sliced turkey, ham, Swiss and cheddar cheese, cucumber, hardboiled egg, onion (which i omitted), croutons and I chose Ranch dressing. It was a great salad, and I could only finish about half of it! Jackson's Pit has played it's part in bringing more traffic to downtown Negaunee, and better food to the area by serving fresh and homemade ingredients. Stopped for lunch today due to a recommendation for a "great burger". Apparently the one who recommended it and I have diametrically opposed definitions of a "great burger". A request for a medium cooked burger was served well done. No server or manager ever bothered asking about the quality of the food or experience. Service was friendly yet inept. Slow and haphazard. Restaurants should probably invest in a serving tray or two before opening for business. Maybe then the cocktails could be brought to the thirsty customers more expeditiously than simply two at a time. Food came out the same way. In all fairness, the onion rings were very good and others in the party enjoyed the wings. Would be much better with a manager overseeing service and someone expediting the kitchen. Go for the onion rings but don't be in a hurry. read more

I wanted to love this place- I am so happy that Negaunee got a hip downtown bar and grill but I feel like it needs some improvement. I am writing this review based on two trips- once this summer and once this week. We were told that the head chef from the summer had been replaced- thank goodness because my husband and I had renamed the place Grease Pit. The food was much less greasy on the second visit, came with a better atmosphere- there was a good cover band on stage and a nice lively vibe. Beer selection is excellent! We did go in on a Saturday night- it was busy, not packed but people in and out. We put in our order and waited and waited and waited. 50 minutes to an hour later, our food arrives. Mind you, we have a toddler. I do not expect the world to turn sideways for my busy toddler but if the staff knows it's going to be a longer than usual wait because they can not handle the capacity, let the family with the toddler know. Server could have stopped by our table to let us know. End of story. The food once again did not impress- the Chicken Caesar salad was dripping with dressing, the meat of the 3rd shift burger was unseasoned and bland and came on rye bread- huh? This isn't a patty melt! Overall, this isn't a gourmet grill and bar, as they claim. Second time I've gone in and asked what the soup of the day is and they don't have one. Second time I've gone away with nothing impressive other that a beer. read more

We waiting forever for our food and then waited even LONGER for the checks. The waitress could not separate the checks for the life of her. She came back and forth to us four times and each time the checks were all wrong. We ended up overpaying because everyone just said screw it and paid for whatever was on the checks. The only thing I have to say is I waited well over an hour for my food and then gave up hope. I asked to speak to the manager about the ridiculously long wait and he looked directly at me and refused to come to our table to address the fact that our wait was outrageous. Jackson's has the absolute BEST hamburger I think I've ever eaten in my life! It was juicy, cooked a perfectly pink medium rare with melted cheese and any number of excellent toppings. We chose the Miner's burger and added cheddar, bacon, pickles, and onion. Their chips are house made and were crispy and delicious while my husband and kids opted for and enjoyed every last one of the french fries. We ordered take-out and I was in a chicken wingy kind of mood which would have been GREAT if we had eaten "in". I ordered them with half Buffalo and half siracha buffalo sauced. The siracha buffalo was SO good while the buffalo was a bit on the vinegar tangy side for me. The house-made ranch dressing MORE than made up for that minor sauce issue though. I could eat their ranch with a spoon, I do believe. Main wing issue was they were no longer crispy and had gotten quite soggy from the moisture in the to-go box by the time we got home which was pretty disappointing. I would totally try them again though if eating at the restaurant, especially with that delish siracha sauce!!! The kid's burgers were the perfect portion size, a tiny bit overcooked but the kids didn't complain too much as they devoured every last bite. Can't wait to go back. Yum yum YUMMY! read more

I want everyone to be aware of the HORRENDOUS experience my family and I just experienced at the Pit. We got to the restaurant at about quarter to 6 this evening. We were the only people in the back eating area (and only a few others in the bar area). We ordered our food, got our appetizer, and things were going good. As more and more people started filing in, we were noticing a pattern... Those arriving after us were getting their food before us Long story short, our waitress comes to the table to tell us "the kitchen lost your slip, should be only 5 more minutes". Alright. We waited about 30 minutes, what's 5 more? Well, 20 more minutes pass by, still, no food. Finally, after the majority of people who arrived after us were already out the door with full bellies, we finish our food and are waiting on the bill. My father tells my mom, my boyfriend and myself to go wait outside. 10 minutes later, he comes to the car and says he spoke to the owner, and she did absolutely NOTHING. NO APOLOGY. NO MINOR DISCOUNT FOR THE WAIT. NOTHING. I am absolutely beyond DISGUSTED with the way we were treated this evening. Honestly, being more open about possibly making an ordering mistake or even, I don't know, APOLOGIZING would have been well and good. But she just kept making excuse after excuse and that just doesn't cut it. I used to go to the Pit about once a month for a burger date with the boyfriend, but NO MORE. I will NEVER step foot in that place again. I just wanted to make people aware of the way my family and I were treated at this establishment and hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

Great food and fun atmosphere! Had their Friday night tenderloin special - tender and delicious. The salad was dressed with blue cheese dressing made in-house and even the grean beans were delicious!
