What an experience! We walked in and it was like stepping back in time. I loved all the wood and the big fireplace. It was also pretty cool knowing it was in the movie "Anatomy of a Murder." I loved looking at the old photos on the wall from the film. We went on a Saturday for lunch and our server was wonderful! She was so pleasant and knowledgeable and I can't say enough how great she was. Then the food. I ordered a Mushroom & Swiss burger with Sweet Potato Fries and honestly it was one of the best, if not the best, burger I've ever had! Same with the fries, amazing! On our last visit the 3 of us ordered the Mt Shasta smash burger....very, very good, done to perfection and quite the large burger with ample fries. Nice selection of draft beers too. So why not 5 stars? Sat at the bar and our server/bartender was either having a bad day or just not the most personable fella. Stopped in after hiking so friends and I were a bit sweaty - Had fish sandwich with sweet potato fries. Sandwich was a bit over cooked so were the fries but I do like my fries crunchy and were perfect! Lovely updates on this little hidden gem. The patio is TOP NOTCH! It also has a stage for music. We were in Michigamee visiting family over the 4th of July. We stopped on Saturday early afternoon and the place was almost dead. The weather was perfect, the whitefish app was great, the ppl were so friendly. We cannot figure out why it was so dead. There were visitors from all over occupying almost every cabin on the lake. They have a perfect location and great restaurant, just need help with the marketing and bringing people in. Suggestion- have a band or 1-2 man acoustic singer Sat and Sun afternoons, maybe some Friday nights. The stage outside is perfect! In winter you could still have a single acoustic singer indoors. Been here a few times and they don't seem very busy but good in between place to stop on the way to either Marquette or houghton. Staff is friendly and attentive price is decent food depending on what you get. If you get wings there is NOT much choice in sauces as they tell you their NOT a wing place as they portray as fine dining it really depends on what you get but the prime rib is the bomb as in good, not like Ruth Chris but good for the area as it's better than most choices in the area you'll have. Out of 3 visits the 3rd time was best so what ever changes they made their improving! read more

I heard about Mt Shasta reopening with new owners and just had to stop in. Its been over 10 years since I ate there, and I was completely blown away with our whole dining experience. First, walking in the door, table settings were of a fine dining restaurant, everything was clean, and wait staff warmly welcomed us in. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by front of the house manager and bartender Rob. Through the whole service he was extremely personable and professional. Wait staff was dressed in black with ties on. Our food came out looking amazing. I ordered the BLT, something so simple and it was absolutely delicious. The garlic aioli in place of mayonnaise was so delicious. The waffle fries were close to perfect too. As we're eating, Rob brings out a plate of their tempura asparagus that I was talking about ordering but didn't. He said he really wanted me to try them! I couldn't believe he did that. (They were spectacular by the way!!) Then he brings out ANOTHER plate of their house made cole slaw which was so unique and tasty as well!! Rob talked with us for most of our meal about the renovations and the reopening. Then the owner came and talked to us too! And as we got our bill Rob said drinks were on him as the cherry on top. They had extensive wine lists and tons of local beer on tap. Their last fish fry this past Friday was a huge hit too they said. I will certainly be back and telling everyone I know to stop in as well. You will not be disappointed!!! read more

We stopped there less than a yr ago and to get service was slow we stopped there on 7 24 23 and the service was worst. There we two customers sitting at the bar and three other couples sitting at various tables. One couple was served the other two waiting for their meals. We were sat down at a table and proceeded to wait to give a drink order and to receive menu's. We sat there 25 minutes and received neither as employees just kept walking by us. At the 30 minute mark we got up a left. I can see having a wait when busy but in this case again not that busy to have customers wait that long and never given a menu. read more

Sorry to say, it appears the Shasta isn't doing business as a restaurant/bar these days. Whenever I was in the Three Lakes area, my family would enjoy dining at this famous local spot. Nice folks. Wow! So excited to have Mt. Shasta open again! But even more excited for what it has to offer - some great upscale choices for good prices. We are so thankful that we have this close by and don't always have to trek to Marquette. They are open for lunch AND dinner and the menu is absolutely wonderful! Stopped in for the Friday Night Fish. Food was great. We had the white fish and trout grilled, with a side of white fish chowder. Once again food was awesome, flavorful fish. Downfall was the service. We had to wait 15 minutes before we saw our waiter, and then when we got our food our order was wrong. It seemed as if the other servers were more attentive, so I think we just got the fluke of the bunch. Overall would try again but hope for a better server. read more

We have visited twice since Mt. Shasta reopened. Once on a Saturday and once on a Sunday. While the food was pretty good, the service leaves a lot to be desired and needs to improve before everyone gives up looking for a good experience. It is not clear whether lack of training is the problem, or that every server has a don't care attitude. On our first visit, a Saturday, we were served by a teenage girl with a very dull expression and complete lack of personality. We had to ask if we could order drinks before ordering our meal. We then ordered an appetizer, and then a main course, both of which came out within minutes of each other, so we were juggling them on the table. I ordered a prime rib, rare, which was grey on the surface. So I assume it was frozen and not carved, but it tasted good and my wife's fish was very good. The server never came back to check whether our meal was ok, and never refilled our drinks or water glasses, and we had to ask for our check. On our second visit, this Sunday, we were seated by another teenage girl who did not smile. She pointed at a table, cleared off the excess table settings, dropped off menus, filled water glasses, and never came back. She then seemed to spend the rest of the time wandering around the restaurant moving water glasses from one table to another. Two other teenage girls were wandering around apparently doing nothing. At the same time, an older lady with red hair was grumpily dealing with the four seated tables in a disorganized manner, and apparently working behind the bar. We looked at the menu and both selected fish main courses along with the fish appetizer. When the older red-haired server came to the table, she did not introduce herself or ask if we would like to order drinks. She just said "What do you want to order?" We asked if we could order fish bites, and then our fish main courses. "We don't have any fish!" was her response. This was a surprise at a restaurant with a menu that is 50% fish, and a bigger surprise that no one mentioned this when we were seated. No alternatives were offered, such as chicken instead of fish on the salad. So we had to scramble and selected burgers. I ordered mine with fries and my wife swapped fries for the "Garden Vegetable" soup, which turned out to be beef soup. The meals were dropped off at the table and the server left. She never came back to check if our meal was OK. It was OK, but we wanted ketchup for the fries and mustard for the burger. We were able to flag her down and ask if we could have them. She said yes, but then went away, made coffee for another table, played with something behind the bar, and never brought them. Eventually, she came back and asked if we were done. This is a nice location with a nice atmosphere and decent food, but this kind of service really detracts from the experience. We were really excited when Mt. Shasta reopened because it is a nice place to visit on our journey between Houghton and Marquette, but right now I don't feel any desire to return in the near future. read more

Much improved under new management. Been here twice recently. Both times food and service were excellent. Soup on both occasions was tasty and hot. Salad bar was good and may improve to great as summer produce becomes more available. Ribs, burgers and fried shrimp entrees are all excellent. Service was friendly and a big improvement on previous owner's staff. Came in to celebrate mom and grandma's birthdays all the way from Honolulu . Grew up vacationing at parents summer place on the lake. Friday night fish fry is a must every time. This time grilled trout was excellent. Unfortunately felt somewhat rushed. We were sat at what felt like a table on the surface of the sun, as it was very warm even with shades closed. Rest of the side dishes were average. Salad bar was a really bad rendition of an all you can eat yuck fest. Server, though busy never once cleared a plate or empty glass, which had filled table because there were six of us. I would have given less stars where it not for the great tasting fish. Will continue to go to Mount shasta on annual trips to the U.P. only because of tradition. read more
