You can take logging roads to this sleepy, little town that's north of Crystal Falls.....that's the fun route. Been coming to the Sawblade for many many years, often in the fall while we're hunting grouse. Really nice bar/restaurant and we've never disappointed with the food. Pizza is really tasty as are the burgers! One friend of ours always gets the "wings", he says "they are one of the best". All sorts of sauces to have with the wings. Nice selection of appetizers and sides. Just a fun, warm bar to hunker down and sip a KBC on draft or brew/cocktail of your choice. Cool old building located in a cool old logging town. They have a large room behind the bar to accommodate large groups and any overflow plus outside seating when weather allows Always friendly people are working there and don't forget to get a Amasa Sawblade hoodie, t-shirt or sweatshirt while there.

Friendly bar staff, excellent hot roast beef sandwich with real good Yukon Gold mashed potatoes. This place has been here for many years but I have to say this the best food it has ever served.

    Pasty!

The food is average, but nothing to rave about needs a little pizzazz, something different to make it special

This place is awesome! Fish Fry Friday hit the spot on a long road trip. It's local, and it's good.

Reservations were at 6 and we were seated right away. Our waitress was promptly at our table and was excellent throughout. I wish I remembered her name. I ordered the Scallops Pernod which is an anise liqueur. It is made with coriander, star anise and mint so it does have an unusual taste but I've had it before but our waitress made sure I was aware of the flavor as she didn't want me to order something I wouldn't have liked. It was FANTASTIC! My mouth is watering think about it. There were plenty of good sized scallops with a Pernod and mushroom cream sauce over linguine. To die for! My friend had the walleye piccata and she said it was also fantastic. The restaurant itself is not terribly big so you could actually talk without yelling. It was decorated in the typical Northwoods style and was very comfortable. I would recommend Chef Rene's 100% although it is a little on the pricier side it is well worth it. Go there you won't be disappointed!

Some of the best steaks I've had were right here versus others within a 60 mile radius. This trip I had the lamb chops which were excellent. Also a double baked and we had escargot. I get here rarely because I don't live here, but have a summer cottage in the area. Let me break down my dinner tonight for you below, and you can decide if you want to try it for yourself. Service - Spot on. Attentive, but not too attentive and very friendly. Appetizer - Truffle fries. Some people like truffle, some people hate truffle. Regardless of that, the fries were cooked to perfection! I cannot think of another french fry I've had that was better than these. Salad - Rarely do I eat all of my house salad, because honestly, they usually suck. This salad was fresh with a light lemon vinaigrette. I cleaned the plate. Bread - Great bread. I don't know if they make it in house, but the garlic butter that came with it was fantastic as well. Mains: Mine - Veal Schnitzel. The dish came with two large veal cutlets, broccolini, and a mountain of garlic mashed potatoes. I could only finish one of the cutlets. There was a dijonnaise drizzled across the plate which was a welcome acid to balance out the richness of the veal. broccolini is always good, and the potatoes were really good. My daughter(an adult) - Boneless braised short ribs in a red wine gravy. I have had this previously and it was great. I sampled some of her dinner and confirmed that it is still very tasty. It taste like someone had cooked the ribs with good seasoning for a long time. The sides were the same as mine, but when you have a couple solid sides, why bother with other randoms. Dessert - We shared a Strawberry creme brulee. I have no words to describe how good this is. Get it.

He made several recommendations, including Portside. It was excellent. Food and service were excellent. We are a product of the South and dont have much whitefish and walleye available. I had the walleye sticks appetizer with an order of fries and my wife had the whitefish cakes. Both were delicious. Fries were obviously hand-cut and large; also very hot. Our server was great! The best part of the meal was the BREAD STICKS! It appeared that the sticks are baked in a round pattern, like a pizza, and then cut into sticks. They were so hot, I couldn't hold them until they cooled a little bit. The accompanying spread was excellent; also marinara sauce. One could make a meal from the bread sticks. The vibe was pleasantly rustic. We decided on a booth instead of seats at the bar. Again, our server was great. The guy who brought out the bread sticks was equally good. I suppose the bread sticks are brought to the table directly from the oven. Highly recommend this place!

We rarely sit outside but this patio beckoned and we were helpless to resist. There's even outdoor seating available if you arrive before the restaurant is open! Silas brought us menus and took drink orders right away. We enjoyed the season's first shandies while exploring the menu. His attention was perfect and we shared some laughs each time he returned to our table. Neither one of us wanted to share (I guess) so we each ordered our own appetizers. I can never get enough smoked whitefish spread... until it's ALL MINE! I enjoyed every bite and would do it again. Patrick ordered the walleye strips and he did offer me a bite (generous devil that he is). They were perfectly crisp without being heavy or greasy. If I had known that... nah, I'd still get the whitefish. We'll be back to visit The Portside and try more menu items. Who knows, maybe we'll split something next time?
