Honestly wouldn't be a place I would visit unless hungover and in the mood for greasy food... Which in my case worked in my favor... lol! If this is your case scenario then I would definitely recommend. Lots of deep fried appetizers that were fried to perfection! I had the deep fried Mac n cheese and it was incredible! Burgers were your typical up north fried buns with a greasy patty but definitely hit the spot! The bar itself was your rustic up north tattered bar. Would recommend if you're looking for the "up north" feel and food!

Just drove into town, helping a hometowner return home. The most scrumptious bacon bleu cheese burger! Best I've had since Texas. Abe, our Metallica shirt clad bartender, gave us a warm welcome and excellent service. We came late and post season, but I hear the place can get insanely packed. The story of Abe's shirt...his wife got him the shirt from a concert she was able to attend, but Abe could not. I'm sure the concert was awesome. Sorry, Abe, but good on your wife for getting you that cool shirt! See you all real soon.

Bacon blue cheese burger so delicious hard to stop thinking about it! I will be trying the rest of the menu for sure!

Great stop while we were here visiting! Good 'ol local watering hole but the girls were friendly and the food was delicious - we had the beer battered fries (OMG so good!) and the chicken strips. We'd come back if we were staying longer.

Pretty good burgers. Friendly staff. I'm from Milwaukee and come up here a lot and always stop in. Beer is cold what more can you ask for?

We prefer bar service over dining service, seem to be generally more attentive and the two staff work as a team. Brandon is waiting on us. He's friendly and good at customer service. Ordered the whitefish dip, baba Ghanouj, superior whitefish tater tots, tabouli salad, superior whitefish chowder, superior whitefish tacos with black pepper fries and a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and cabbage slaw. $111 They do charge a 4% transparency fund: employee retention, living wages, staff happiness. Written on the bottom of your bill. The dishes are scratch made, in house. Nice! The tabouli is too, has some mixed greens in it. There is something sweet in the dressing or the buckwheat, not my thing at all. Rest of the salad is good though. The baba ghanouj on its own is quite garlicky, slight Smokey flavor to it. It doesn't work with the pita crackers. Not loving this at all. The whitish dip is good. My hubby liked the sweet pickled for watermelon rind garnish, I didn't like them much. The spicy chicken sandwich on the brioche bun is really good. The chicken is super crispy. It's quite good. The whitish tacos are good. The whitefish seems to be blackened, really nicely. The fish is light and perfectly cooked. The whitefish chowder is so good! The tater tots are so delicious. No slouch here. Crunchy and so yummy! Food was so unique and quiet food. The side pepper fries are and slaw ate both a bit blah, compared to the majority of our flavorful meals Service is top notch.

As we were waiting in line a bartender walked past and mentioned a free table with seat yourself FCFS in the tap room. We snagged the table and were greeted immediately. The table was decorated with some cute hand drawn coasters. Ordered a couple beverages and appetizers as well as mains. The food was all delicious and service was great. We ordered a carrot cake cupcake to share for dessert. This was our least favorite part of the experience, but my partner's only complaint was the surprise golden raisins. He's not a huge fan of "pieces" in his cake. I loved the frosting, although it wasn't traditional cream cheese frosting. It was decadent and rich. 8/10.

Fish options are cod, perch, walleye, and whitefish but perch was sold out at the time of my visit so I ordered the 4-piece cod. There were two people ahead of me ordering, which I took as a good sign as it was late afternoon - too late for lunch and too early for dinner. Fish and chips (aka potato wedges) are cooked to order, so there is a bit of a wait. The weather was beautiful so I took a few moments to wanders around. The others waiting for food were telling me it was the best they've had, so I was really excited when my order was up and the container was brimming with food. Service was 5 stars - the man working was so friendly and he was working really hard keeping up with orders. I was surprised there was only one person working. Food - I hate to be a downer, but it was not as amazing as I anticipated. It was very fresh and the fish by itself was terrific. However, I felt it was overly breaded and very heavy on the pepper. The chips were also fresh but overly seasoned. One order of a 4-piece was plenty for 2 people and we had quite a few leftover chips. Love the concept of a roadside Fish & Chips food truck, great service, but as a somewhat proficient fish & chips connoisseur with experience in both Wisconsin and England, it was not up to parr. (get it... parr: a juvenile trout/salmon)

Earlier that day we all did our book shopping at Snowbound Books on Third Street, and followed that visit by dining at The Vierling. As other reviewers have noted, the place is busy, and reservations are recommended. And as others have noted, the food is very good. Around our table we had soup (the whitefish chowder (cup, $5.75) came out piping hot - perfect with a dash of black pepper and Tabasco), some salads (gluten free, $5) - I wished someone would order the whitefish bites, but not this time. While all of us had dined at Vierling in the past, this was the first time our group was seated in the space immediately adjacent to the bar, accessed through a walkway. The space includes what looks like a still for beer or spirits, and impressive and imposing sight. We arrived at 5:30 p.m., when the space was empty, so sound levels were good. By 6:30 sound levels went up, probably due to our own conversations as well as those around us. Three of us ordered the locally sourced whitefish (grilled & lightly seasoned, $21); others ordered the grilled salmon ($21), and the beer-battered cod basket ($16.75). Those of us with room left after the entrée shared servings of chocolate peanut butter pie ($6.50, with a crushed Oreo crust, whipped peanut butter filling and fudge ganache top). Service was prompt, friendly, and everyone's order was filled without flaw. We tend to talk a lot, and I think we probably overstayed our reservation when our host explained, at close to 8:30 p.m., that the table had been reserved for another seating that evening. Our host was courteous and diplomatic, and I'm glad she spoke up, as we really did occupy the space for close to three hours on a very busy Friday night. Hope to do it again next time we're all in Marquette, but maybe be a bit more mindful of the length of our stay.
