Located in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, this 19th century brewery and museum contains 4 extraordinary restaurants, live events, an unusual store, and an art gallery displaying works from local artists. Bube's has a very rustic, vintage atmosphere, as everything has been preserved as it existed years ago. My experience with Bube's was in the Catacombs, an incredible restaurant located 43 feet underground in the old stone cellars where enormous wooden casks used to be full of aging beer. The atmosphere is beyond unique, as the quiet stone caverns are lighted only by candlelight atop a number of dinner tables. What an experience! Not to mention that the food was great and the service superb. They even provided a free dessert to help us celebrate a birthday in our dining party. I tried a few of the house brewed beers- an IPA that really threw me off because of it's unique maltiness and a red ale that was just perfect. My date tried a caramel apple martini that was equally delicious, and the prices for everything on the menu were very reasonable. Both the swordfish and the seafood mornay were wonderful. All in all, dining in the Catacombs was an experience I will not soon forget, and I am already planning a return visit to try the other dining establishments at Bube's Brewery. Those include the original bar called Alois, the Bottling Works, and the outdoor Biergarten. We didn't realize it was two different places and menus, the upstairs is casual dining and we happened to be there in a karaoke night! The food was good, bar food. Then we were able to tour downstairs where it was fine dining and way more pricey but the catacombs are very cool. Very. I would go back my hubby liked the beer! read more

Environment is interesting--the catacombs are pretty unique place to have an eatery. That being said, I ate at the upper floor restaurant and found the food underwhelming. Burger was overcooked. Respectable number of beers on tap but not necessarily impressive. Unfortunately the harvest sangria tasted like watered down apple juice-probbaly one of the worst cocktails I've had in a while. I have been here several times over the course of many years. If you are looking for a casual hangout with friends or a low-key place to hear local music, this is the place for you. The interior is dark and authentic. The food has always placed second fiddle to the bar. My soup came out at the same time as my steak and was rather bland. The Pub Steak was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Be careful with salads. They always put on too much and they often over-power the salad. I always ask for it on the side. The deserts are tiny, so don't plan on sharing. Also, don't sit at any table near the stage. You will get an unpleasant whiff of the bathrooms as patrons open those doors. read more

We just left there. The place is cool. We did not read the reviews before we went, all I knew about it was that it was a brewery and it had man-made, underground caves that you could eat in. The outside is gorgeous. The inside is old and amazing too. Rocks, slanted walkways, old steps....ummm yes...the building is like from 1850. It is awesome. We had reservations for 7:30 and we ate in the catacombs. We had all three beers that the brewery is currently brewing and they were delicious. A saison and two dark beers (a lager I think and the other one I'm not sure, my boyfriend drank those). The drinks came fast too. The food was good, like pretty damn good. It did take really long for us to get a waitress and it seemed like they only had one waitress working the whole room. Plus, our dinner took really long to come. We were there for two hours. However, I am okay with that, because the drinks kept coming and plus, it allowed me to space out my meals and open up room in my stomach. I thought this place was cool. Only down side was the slowness....but who cares...bring a good friend or your best friend (like I did) and you have time to talk...and you are fine. Plus, I didn't see any roaches. read more

We went for a regular dinner in the Catacombs. They have other special events (murder mysteries and themed "feasts") that I haven't tried yet. Great place if you're really into historic places and unique dining atmosphere. Service is pretty standard and the food is okay; there's no 'wow' factor. Our dinner started off with a quick tour of the old brewery area before we descend a few flights of stairs to the underground dining area in the catacombs. The atmosphere and history are really interesting (historic activities related to the building included alcohol prohibition and Underground Railroad). The walls are all stone, strung up with lights, and beer barrels line the walls. I thought we would be descending much further down, but it was only about 1-2 flights of stairs. I wish the tour was a little bit longer or more detailed given all the history of the building. (I was expecting more of a brewery tour I guess.) The food portion of our dinner began with their complimentary free pretzels. They are the cold and hard type variety, not warm and soft. (Let's just say I'm glad I didn't have to pay for them.) For entrees, we had a seafood pasta and a roasted duck. I would describe the seafood pasta as typical/standard and not very impressive. A group of us went to The Catacombs this past Saturday.. I went online and found the menu... my partner and I decided we'd eat the crab cakes .. we got to the restaurant and the crab cakes weren't on the menu.. the waiter, very nice, told us of some extras on the menu including crab cakes...so e ordered them.. also another couple ordered them also... btw.. the price of the crab cake dinner online was $32... the crab cakes arrived... room temp and no lump meat showing at all... mediocre at best... then the bill arrived.. $75 for each crab cake dinner!!! What?? Are we in nyc ?? I showed the waiter the menu I saw online and he said.. oh, that's old... really? They did end up taking one dinner off ... I posted a small review on their pic of the crab cakes on their fb page.. and both were removed and apparently I'm blocked.. very professional !! read more

Bube's was so creepy and fantastic. I believe it's the second oldest brewery in the country although it's no longer functioning. It' holds a ton of history and also ghosts apparently. We came in late at night but the bar tender was happy to tell us some stories and share what details she could about the Ghost Hunters episode that was filmed there. I had a really enjoyable experience here on the patio with great company and cold beers. I'd recommend this place to anyone. read more

The wife go here more than any other restaurant and for good reason.We've tried so many different plates / beers. All have really surprised at how good they taste. There are plenty of different options for you. From the catacombs/themed dinners, to bottling works, to the seats in the beer garden. Did I mention there is a museum upstairs? The service beats out any other bar in town and there are plenty of events to keep it fresh. We've taken all of our friends here and always look forward to going again. You won't regret it. The staff was friendly and accommodating even during covid. We did the mystery dinner which we highly recommend followed by the ghost tour. Lots of history here. We then spent 2 nights in the hotel upstairs. Not your typical rooms if you are use to hotels, however I recommend them for the experience of it all. Plus you get to explore most of the building this way. Had dinner in the catacombs the second night. Drinks are much more expensive down there so wait till after dinner and head to the bar in my opinion. Dinner menu is also limited but again worth the experience. Well. I seen a number of videos highlighting the place, so we were excited to check it out. Located in Mt.Joy Pennsylvania in the very nostalgic Central Hotel. I do have to say the place is really, really neat. They have 2 dining areas to choose from. The upstairs Pub or the downstairs Catacombs, which is a really really cool location 43' below street level in the old caves that held the beer they use to brew hundreds of years ago. Really cool location but the food experience was not good . We sat down around 7:15ish and was greeted by the " beverage server" which gracefully brought us our flights of house made brew. We were then greeted by our server who told us about the one special they had. Basically Tortellini with Alfredo is how it was described to us. Having a hankering for Prime Rib, that is what we requested. To our disappointment we were told they were out of Prime Rib .... really... 7:30 on a Sat night at a restaurant and your out.. 1st disappointment. We proceed to order something else, me the 8 oz filet with mushrooms & onions, and a baked potato. My wife ordered the NY Strip with baked potato too. Both of us got the French Onion soup as appetizers, it was OK. While eating our soup we were then told they were out of baked potatoes.... really .... 2nd disappointment. Lastly I get my steak, which was a good filet, but it comes out with literally a combined tablespoon of mushrooms & onions, for $4.00, 3rd disappointment. Lastly what disappointed me was they use frozen veg medley instead of a fresh veg. I rarely, if ever complain but for the prices they charge and the hype built up to coming here we were not satisfied. To note another table next to us also voiced their dissatisfaction with their meal experience. I ordered the chicken parm for dinner tonight. When I cut into the chicken the chicken was completely raw. Although, it was burnt on the outside. The waitress was very nice and took it back when she saw. When a different girl brought a new meal back it was basically a chicken nugget with cheese on top. It looked like goo with breading. When I looked confused she rudely told me that this is the chicken parm I sent back. Insinuating it was my fault the chicken was raw. I did not eat it but asked for the bill. I've only been here twice but you gotta check this place out. While the beers were better on the 1st visit this is still a very cool and historical place. The beers were just O.K this time 'round. They do have other besides Bube's on tap. The Biergarten is a nice outside place to chill in the summer. There is an artifact that has been there since the 19th century. I believe it was used to roast malt. The whole building has a great history. Wished I could have seen the catacombs, but they were closed both times I was there.They have live music on weekends and I bet it gets pretty crowded. All in all I would recommend as part of a Lancaster Co. beer trek. At least once. read more

Great food and service! We sat outside and it was very socially distanced. Hostess was very friendly and helped my mom get the table after stopping to the restroom. We ordered pulled pork burger, pinucchi sub, pan seared salmon, and andouli sub. We enjoyed everything! We dined in the catacombs of Bubes brewery to celebrate our life events. A guide is required to find your way to seating as you desend the original stairs to the lower levels. Dim lighting and unlevel floors can be a challenge. Once seated service was excellent. There was a wide selection to choose from and portions were plentiful. If you have allergies - premedicate before going down into the catacombs! My bf was dying from the bits of grain dust. Besides that, we had an excellent experience. The tour with Richard was neat to see and he explained everything very well. We had reservations for 6:45 and started promptly. Anne, our server, wasn't attentive, but very nice when she was around. The food was delicious! They do have different menus for different parts of the establishment. We got the Chicken Capella (chicken breast stuffed with crabmeat with bacon in top) and the short ribs, both were great. What I can't get past was the rude A-hole, dressed as a clown, an Employee, that started yelling at my son and I as we went to the lower dining room. We were just exploring. They don't even have Bubes Brewery t shirts! I have eaten in the Victorian restaurant in the past and now the brewery. I gotta say I was not impressed with either. Our server this past time was attentive. The brewed beers were a treat and were yummy. My friends salad was huge and fresh. I ordered the chicken and waffles. They were good but i could get the same goodness at a diner for cheaper. Our soup came luke warm. It was sent back and it came back the same way, warm, not Hot. The atmosphere is so cool! I really wanted to like this place. My tip is go for the beer and the atmosphere but dont have high expectations on the food and pricing. A friend brought me here a couple years ago and we had a lovely dinner in the catacombs so I figured it would be a cute date place to bring my boyfriend to last night. I guess they have changed their policy since the few years ago I've been because you can only eat in the catacombs if you have a reservation which they do not clarify on their website!!! I was very disappointed and we had to settle for the casual dining restaurant. My boyfriend ordered the French dip sub which was extremely salty, too salty to enjoy & his red ale tasted subpar and watered down. I ordered the chicken & waffles and was just as disappointed since it tasted and looked like chicken soup on top of a waffle. We left bummed, skipping dessert and myself with a slight stomach ache. Took my parents who were visiting the area to Bubes as the atmosphere looked nice. Right off the bat the hostess seem a bit confused, was offered a tour of the catacombs while we waited for our table but it never happened not sure why not? Decided to sit outside as it was a nice evening and was completely ignored from that point forward. After waiting a half hour without even being asked if we would like some water and watching the table next to us who arrived after us get their entire meal we finally got a waitresses attention and asked if we could at least get some water to which she snapped back "I'll find your waitress you're not in my section!" About 30 minutes later a waitress arrived and took our drink and food order. A water, a coke, and a Guinness. 20 minutes later she arrived with a water and a coke and informed me they were out of Guinness... ordered a local beer and pleaded with her not to make me wait another 20 minutes for that one. 20 minutes later I got my beer. About 30 minutes later the food arrived, 2 chicken and waffles completely soggy and drenched in gravy, and a New York steak ordered medium rare yet cooked well done. On arrival of the food my dad asked for another coke so he had something to drink with his meal, he never received it.. We did not even attempt to wait for the check and went to the hostess to pay our bill thinking I'm sure they will take something off of it or at least offer a discount as they could tell we were quite upset with the horrible service, this did not happen however. Instead we paid an upset host and witnessed another waitress sobbing at the front counter as she had charged another guest for the wrong table. I've had bad food before and I've had lousy service but I have never experienced anything like this. It was like living an episode of kitchen nightmares and I will never go back. This is such a neat brewery. Built in the 19th century, they still have some original decorations and barrels. They are a microbrewery with great beer, and they also sell other local craft beers as well. You can make a whole night out of visiting this brewery. They have an escape room, Biergarten, upstairs bar & restaurant, fine dining restaurant in the catacombs, murder mystery dinners and ghost tours. Highly recommend checking it out! read more

5/5 for unique experience and atmosphere. My wife and I ate in the catacombs after being given a tour of the building. We didn't know that a tour was included but enjoyed it nonetheless! The catacomb experience was definitely one of kind. A little dark and hard to read the menu, but it was really cool. Felt like eating in a castle! 4/5 for the Bube's beer. Just above average compared to some other Lanco breweries. 2/5 for the food. The tomato soup and bruschetta appetizers were okay. I ordered the filet mignon which at $45 was surprisingly not the most expensive entree on the menu. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out much closer to medium well in my opinion. Quite a bit of charring on the outside for my taste. They didn't have the risotto, and the side pairing for the salmon option was not to my wife's liking so she ordered the chicken. For $42 dollars she expected a lot more. Most of the chicken was burned past the point of being edible. Luckily one piece was edible so she could eat something. The sides were good so she at least had something to eat. The whole meal came out to be over $175 which would be fine in a NYC steakhouse or something like that. For Lanco this place was wayyyyy overpriced for the quality of the food. Catacomb experience was cool but the entrees were a being disappointment. Amazing staff though. We were very excited to try this unique restaurant. We made reservations for a Thursday night to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The atmosphere was amazing. The tour at the beginning of our meal was really interesting. Unfortunately, the food was quite pricey and the quality did not match the prices. Our food arrived lukewarm and some of the portions were quite small. I'm glad we tried it but, unfortunately I do not think we will be returning. read more
