Grandview Vineyard was a happy detour that turned into a new annual tradition. We visit Lancaster…read moreevery year and decided to switch gears and stop here and honestly, it was one of those why didn't we do this sooner? moments. Set on rolling Pennsylvania countryside, the views are straight out of a postcard. It's peaceful, scenic, and exactly the kind of place where time slows down (in the best way). The wine list is well thought out, approachable yet refined, with something for every palate. Nothing felt mass-produced or rushed and each pour had intention behind it. The staff deserves real credit: knowledgeable, welcoming, and genuinely proud of what they're pouring. They guide you without the wine snob energy, which makes the experience feel relaxed and inviting, whether you're a casual sipper or a full-on wine enthusiast. This stop elevated our Lancaster trip and added a fresh layer to a tradition we already love. Grandview Vineyard isn't just a winery, it's an experience worth building into your itinerary. We'll be back. No question. For photos, wine highlights, and more travel-food stops worth the drive, check out @travelingtastebuds_

Grandview Vineyard was a nice place to enjoy beverages out on the deck!…read more Initially, I was surprised by the views once we stepped outside at the Vineyard. It doesn't necessarily look like that as you drive up. The only downfall is that there is only one restroom. The pricing seemed decent. I was super pleased that they had a small selection of mocktails. Their strawberry lemonade spritz wasn't too sweet or too tart! It was just right. My friends seemed to enjoy all the wine choices! Additionally, the crab pretzel was amazing!! The charcuterie boards looked worth it. Plenty of seating and a live band was set up around 6/630, but we left just as they were coming in. Highly recommend and would come back (even as a sober lady!).

This building has been painted and decorated to keep with the time period. Very cool if you are into history. After our dinner, we were given a tour of the catacombs, brewery, dining areas, etc. The tour guide was the owner who was also an actor in our dinner. He is full of knowledge and information about the beer making process and the building itself. The murder mystery dinner was fun. There are 3-4 rooms with patrons and a bar area. The actors move throughout the rooms giving hints, etc. There is a bar where the appetizers were set up and where you were able to order drinks. The drink menu was varied and had some interesting choices. Most were sweet drinks. They do have a full bar as well so you can find something to drink. Dave the bartender is super friendly and attentive. He makes the experience fun too. I would think that they would have had more elevated drinks relevant to that time period. I understand that they were trying to make it more relevant to today to get sales and make people happy. They had lots of options. Even a peanut butter/jelly martini that was spot on. The show itself was great. Very well played by the actors. Hard to follow along a little as the rooms do cause a barrier and you miss parts of the 'show' and the actual murder itself. The actors are friendly and fun. Some people that came even dressed the part. It's a murder mystery speakeasy theme. The hotel and rooms really fit the time period for this as well. The food was a typical buffet/cafeteria food options. You had to pick from chicken or steak when you bought your tickets online. The tickets were about $65 per person. That doesn't include the cost of drinks. The drinks were not pricey. You are paying for entertainment so keep that in mind. We had apps at the bar area that was self serve. Then, we had a salad that was good and soup that was just as good too (broccoli and cheddar). We then had the main course that was served with corn and mashed potatoes. The sides were just meh and the meats were a little dry. There is butter on top of the steak that is tasty. The steaks are served one temp and are thin. We were then given coffee and a piece of chocolate cake with whipped cream on top. After the dinner reveal, the bartender gives you some history of the building and then the owner will come back and take you on at our through the entire building. It is a maze. Super cool to see all the parts. This was a great activity to do. Again, you aren't paying for a $65 meal, but rather entertainment. I would for sure go again. They do have lots of other entertainment options throughout the year and we were told that Halloween is a super spectacular time to visit. If you like history, you will love this place. It is also a working hotel.

Prior to our tour leading us through the historic brewery, our group was chiding for being too loud during the tour he was leading. Minutes later, he had to be corrected by our guide for playing a video too loud during our tour! The tour itself was brief, but pleasant. Now, down to the meat of my giving 2-stars. The dining areas had a great ambience of history with the exposed subterranean walls. The pin point lights intermingled with the red drapes added to this atmosphere. As beautiful as this was to the eye, it made reading the menu a challenge. Because to bring your cell phone or a flashlight, if you expect to read anything. Then the menu. To say there was an imbalance between entree pricing and preparation quality would be an understatement. We were alarmed by the sheer elevated prices, especially once discovered how average to sub-par the meals actually were. My wife was very disappointed with her pork. And as someone who has enjoyed and prepared Oscar for my entire adult life, this was easily the worst I ever tasted. I certainly had much higher expectations for the $70 charges for my plate alone. Service was the rotten cherry on top. As a diner, there was an overhanging sense that the motivation was to turn the tables for the next pending tour group. Then when you wanted assistance, no one was to be found. My wife had to walk to the service station herself, Just to get a box. All in all, I won't ever go back to Bube's. I'll also double down, and eagerly recommend that none of my friends go either.

I've done this trip many…read moretimes and stayed at a variety of hotels and AirBnbs, and to my surprise, this Holiday Inn Express is my favorite. Check in was a breeze, and the hotel receptionist was very friendly, which I appreciated after a long day of travel. The rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable. They come with a mini-fridge, plenty of drawer and closet space, outlets by the bed to charge your phone, and chromecast on the television, which makes streaming a breeze. These are all major pluses for me for such a long trip. I also found the bed to be quite comfortable. This hotel also has a gym and an indoor pool. I didn't end up using these during my stay, but I may try take advantage of them when I return. The stay also includes a hot breakfast, which was great. Every morning there was some variety of egg, breakfast meat (sausage or bacon), and potato (or biscuits) available. A heat lamp keeps the cinnamon rolls on offer warm and gooey. An automatic pancake machine serves mini pancakes cooked by the press of a button. But the machine jams a lot and the pancakes are tiny. One of the breakfast attendants had to show us the trick to make it work. There were also a variety of other pastries, yogurts, and cereals. In addition to a juice machine, there are carafes with regular coffee, decaf, and hot water available in the lobby 24-7, though they are refreshed less frequently as the day progresses. I had some lukewarm decaf a few times later in the day. One little hiccup during my stay was that there was a power outage. The power went on and off a few times and the elevator couldn't be used for some period of time. This occurred when a lot of folks were on their way to or having breakfast, so the timing was not great. I ended up having to make a few trips up and down the stairs, but it wasn't a big deal, and I felt lucky not to have gotten stuck in the elevator. But there wasn't any real communication about it, and we never did learn the cause. One thing I did note is that when you enter the hotel, there is a sign on the door that makes it clear that local residents are not welcome to stay, only tourists. I haven't been a resident for two decades, but I grew up in this area, and the constant reminder that locals are not welcome was off-putting. I have to wonder if there is a more tactful way for the hotel to handle this issue. Another thing to know is that a lot of folks who stay here are headed to the Soooky Nook sports complex nearby, so there are often large groups in the lobby and large vehicles in the parking lot. All of that being said, I enjoyed my stay here and would absolutely stay here again when visiting this area.

Walking in to the right is their store. The store has sweets, novelty items, ceramics and great gift sets. To the left is the bar and restaurant which has that beautiful view! The service despite how busy they were was very attentive. My friend ordered a corned beef and sauerkraut grilled sandwich with a crab soup and I got a duck burger with fries. The burger tasted like grounded up duck meat and breading. It had some kind of Asian flavored slaw that had way too much salt so I removed it and enjoyed the burger with just the lettuce. The fries has texture and flavor of re-refried fries. My friend said her soup was good but she would not get it there again. It was too watery for her liking. Her grilled sandwich was very good. Though the food wasn't the best we did enjoy each others company and made a great memory!
