This historic brewery is a Lancaster County Gem!!! You have to check it out! I was so fortunate to be able to go to the "haunt the readers" event this past weekend. Getting to know the various staff was so awesome. The servers, wait staff, management, and owners are all incredible people who care about your experience. The event themed cocktail menu was such a great special addition for several of the authors and books. The food was and as always absolutely amazing! Now add that to a a truly 200 year old hotel and brewery you are left with a one of a kind experience. I was recently denied service at this establishment without receiving a clear explanation. What makes this especially concerning is that they continue to employ an individual who shared intimate images of my fiancée without her consent--including allegedly sharing them with other employees--and who is currently paying court-ordered restitution related to the case. I contacted management directly and requested an explanation for why I was denied service and whether this situation influenced their decision. While this is a great and original experience, the food was pretty lacking. Had the bruschetta, the bread wasn't toasted or crunchy and there was probably too much pesto for a true bruschetta. Had the pappardella primavera, wasn't bad and probably my favorite but more of the same cooked tomatoes here. Lastly, we had the Chicken stuffed with Brie and apples and it seasoned poorly, sour and sweet but also bland, totally just poor execution. Wish it was better but it wasn't. We went here for a one night stay in their Malt Baron mansion across the street and a dinner in their restaurant in a cave called the Catacombs. The hotel attached to the brewery doesn't have bathrooms in the rooms, but shared bathrooms elsewhere; so we opted for the place that they also own across the street that did have its own bathroom. The apartment we stayed in was called the Louisa Frank suite. The mansion has 3 apartments in it. I picked Louisa because I liked the 50s vibe it had. The place is a little worn (like the mattresses and some furnishings), but we still loved it. We had dinner reservations in the catacombs. The waiter seemed kind of lost and unsure of himself, and the food is pretty average, but it's still worth going to see. Set your expectations reasonably regarding food quality and lodging, but go for the experience because it's unlike anything else you'll ever do. read more

Super cook place to check out. There are catacombs and lots of history packed into this place. We went to the Murder Mystery dinner that was in the hotel part of this long building. This building has been painted and decorated to keep with the time period. Very cool if you are into history. After our dinner, we were given a tour of the catacombs, brewery, dining areas, etc. The tour guide was the owner who was also an actor in our dinner. He is full of knowledge and information about the beer making process and the building itself. The murder mystery dinner was fun. There are 3-4 rooms with patrons and a bar area. The actors move throughout the rooms giving hints, etc. There is a bar where the appetizers were set up and where you were able to order drinks. The drink menu was varied and had some interesting choices. Most were sweet drinks. They do have a full bar as well so you can find something to drink. Dave the bartender is super friendly and attentive. He makes the experience fun too. I would think that they would have had more elevated drinks relevant to that time period. I understand that they were trying to make it more relevant to today to get sales and make people happy. They had lots of options. Even a peanut butter/jelly martini that was spot on. The show itself was great. Very well played by the actors. Hard to follow along a little as the rooms do cause a barrier and you miss parts of the 'show' and the actual murder itself. The actors are friendly and fun. Some people that came even dressed the part. It's a murder mystery speakeasy theme. The hotel and rooms really fit the time period for this as well. The food was a typical buffet/cafeteria food options. You had to pick from chicken or steak when you bought your tickets online. The tickets were about $65 per person. That doesn't include the cost of drinks. The drinks were not pricey. You are paying for entertainment so keep that in mind. We had apps at the bar area that was self serve. Then, we had a salad that was good and soup that was just as good too (broccoli and cheddar). We then had the main course that was served with corn and mashed potatoes. The sides were just meh and the meats were a little dry. There is butter on top of the steak that is tasty. The steaks are served one temp and are thin. We were then given coffee and a piece of chocolate cake with whipped cream on top. After the dinner reveal, the bartender gives you some history of the building and then the owner will come back and take you on at our through the entire building. It is a maze. Super cool to see all the parts. This was a great activity to do. Again, you aren't paying for a $65 meal, but rather entertainment. I would for sure go again. They do have lots of other entertainment options throughout the year and we were told that Halloween is a super spectacular time to visit. If you like history, you will love this place. This is a very cool place to check out. It is more for the ambiance than the food. We had the tour and I am guessing by the energy it was our guide's 100th one of the day. It was still kind of interesting. We dined in the catacombs. Our waiter was very nice. The staff in general are very nice and accommodating, as I saw them going out of their way for some guests that really were not appreciative of their efforts. The food was okay. We had brussel sprouts with bacon for an appetizer.I had a chicken stuffed with brie, spinach, and apples with grains on the side. The chicken was a little tough but it was a different flavor experience. We also had a steak that was okay. I was disappointed that they do not have or offer bread with the meals. They did end up bringing me some toasted bread that they give with the soups. The ambiance is dark and being in a catacomb is pretty cool. The tables are very roomy. read more

Bube's Brewery is a fun experience and a cool atmosphere. We sat in the bottlingworks part, and it was a neat little space. The food was what we expected - classic bar food and good for what it was. The atmosphere definitely was the selling point as the food was very basic. Our biggest issue was the service. We sat at our table for 2 hours and the waiter only came around enough to get us 2 rounds of drinks. At one point, the wrong wine was served to our table - not even the right color. I'd also requested a drink that simply never came. If you go here, go for the experience and just understand the food is average and the service may be a bit lacking. Still fun though! read more

I was very optimistic leading into my first visit to Bube's catacombs. Sadly, it's at best an excellent example of style over substance. Prior to our tour leading us through the historic brewery, our group was chiding for being too loud during the tour he was leading. Minutes later, he had to be corrected by our guide for playing a video too loud during our tour! The tour itself was brief, but pleasant. Now, down to the meat of my giving 2-stars. The dining areas had a great ambience of history with the exposed subterranean walls. The pin point lights intermingled with the red drapes added to this atmosphere. As beautiful as this was to the eye, it made reading the menu a challenge. Because to bring your cell phone or a flashlight, if you expect to read anything. Then the menu. To say there was an imbalance between entree pricing and preparation quality would be an understatement. We were alarmed by the sheer elevated prices, especially once discovered how average to sub-par the meals actually were. My wife was very disappointed with her pork. And as someone who has enjoyed and prepared Oscar for my entire adult life, this was easily the worst I ever tasted. I certainly had much higher expectations for the $70 charges for my plate alone. Service was the rotten cherry on top. As a diner, there was an overhanging sense that the motivation was to turn the tables for the next pending tour group. Then when you wanted assistance, no one was to be found. My wife had to walk to the service station herself, Just to get a box. All in all, I won't ever go back to Bube's. This is the worst experience I've had at a restaurant. celebrating my grandsons graduation and they charged us $ 200 for two sandwiches chicken tenders, a salad, Mac and cheese, and two bowls of soup. I not only would NOT recommend this place, I would also recommend against going to this establishment. Regarding celebrations they charge a two dollars per person fee if you bring in cake. Regarding bathrooms they were the grossest I've seen, like a truck stop. Too add to this environment of dread, the employees couldn't help but complain themselves about how terrible it is working there loudly in the bar. Once you enter the doors you walk into a historic establishment from Bube's bar to the Catacombs Restaurant 40' underground beneath the surface. The atmosphere is second to none and the decent to the restaurant will be severe if you load up at the bar. Note: Mike at the bar has about 6 craft brews and the abundant of leading brands. I forgot to ask how many stair slips occur annually. Fair warning! The food was very good. Tonight's dining consisted of stuffed mushrooms 8/10, Filet Minion 10/10 and Osso Buso 7/10. Our service was a 10. This experience was a birthday treat from my bride and one I'll be chatting positively about at work in the morning. My head was spinning trying to absorb the decor. Made reservations to have dinner in the catacombs on a rainy Wednesday evening. We were greeted by two friendly gentlemen at the front desk and it was suggested to stop in the Bottleworks for a beer and bathroom stop before our tour started as there are no bathrooms down in the catacombs. The bartender was very friendly and the Pumpkin Ale and Octoberfest beer was delicious! After a short while, we were gathered up to begin our tour of this eclectic brewery, so filled with history! Although the steps were a bit steep, it wasn't too bad and I guess we had enough bevrication with dinner to not even notice going back up! We were seated in a lovely room with approximately 10 other couples. The actual menu had a few more options than the menu on their website. Is it a bit pricey- yes! BUT the food and service was on point and definitely worth every cent! Our server was Jude and he was phenomenal and worked the whole room with great ease and was so friendly. This was definitely one of the most unique dinning experiences I've had the pleasure of having. If you are in the Hershey/Lancaster area, I highly recommend making a slight detour over here. We first sat at the bar upstairs for about a half hour before our reservation. My fiancé and I had a drink and shared a humongous pretzel which was hot and delicious. Once we were called for our table that's when the real experience began. I was not excepting a tour, but before they bring you down into the Catacombs for your dinner, they give you an entire tour and history of the building and tunnels that run beneath. It's really quite a sight to see and incredible that they turned it into a restaurant. The dining room is extremely unique vibe that has be experience first hand to fully describe. Now of course this is a restaurant so no matter how awesome and unique the dining "experience" is, the food obviously has to be good. I'm happy to report everything was delicious. I had the lamb lollipops and my fiancé had the lobster bisque for our appetizers. My lamb was great. Only negative thing I could say was that the portion was very small for the price. For our entrees I had the pork tomahawk. It was incredibly good. The meat was well cooked and not dry. The pineapple chutney really elevated it to the next level. Only negative I could say was that my green beans were a little undercooked. My fiancé very much enjoyed the salmon. Additionally, the two cocktails we ordered were very unique and tasty. Falafel was not edible, naan was burned, celery was so slimy I showed our waitress (who did nothing but tell the chef) and bleached baby carrots - gross! This review is for the Bottling Work, not the Catacombs.......So my husband and I went here back in April for a date night. Service was slow, went to order an entrée and was told wasn't available. I thought I'd give them another try. In May, my sister wanted to go here for her birthday. She ordered a drink, waiter said they were out of one of the ingredients. She picked something else. We picked an appetizer, they were out of that. She ordered her sandwich. I ordered my food, but specifically asked for it to be made without cheese. Lo and behold, I take a bite a bunch of cheese was put on it. Took 15-20 min to return. The waiter apologize and he asked if I wanted something else. My sister was almost finished with her meal so at that point, I said no thank you. He did remove my meal from our check. My family and I went here last night (July2), after attending a local event. To start things off there was no AC in the dining area on the hottest day of the week. We were seated at a table and waited several minutes for someone to even come and take our drink order. Mind you there was no one else in the dining area except for a group in the back who was listening to whomever was providing the entertainment. I ordered the margarita flatbread. Surprisingly the waiter told me this was not available. Took our order and the waiter said it would be about 10 minutes. Half an hour later we still hadn't gotten our food. A table that had been sitting beside us had left shortly after we sat down, and that table was never cleared of its dirty dishes. A couple was seated beside us after we had already ordered and had been waiting about 15 minutes for our food. Our food and the couples food were brought out at the same time. I got the pork egg rolls and I believe they were to come with a Thai chili sauce which the waiter didn't bring. I mentioned it --he came back with a dish of sour cream. Table that seated 15 minutes after ours was served appetizers before ours. Our appetizer arrived with our entrée and it was cold along with our Salmon. Salmon was sent back and was remade, 15 minutes later the dish was remade and arrived at the same time the aforementioned table was served their table of 9. We drove from Maryland to have a birthday meal for 2, and I have regrets. Server was polite, apologetic, and sympathetic to our experience. We were staying in Lancaster and decided to check out the Catacombs at Bube's Brewery in Mount Joy which was about a 20 minute drive away. It's a popular place so I would definitely recommend making reservations. We got a quick little tour as we were led down to the Catacombs. We love dark and creepy places so the Catacombs was perfect for us! They had a nice beer selection, we both had the pumpkin beer which was fantastic. I had the lobster ravioli which benefited from a mini lobster tail on top. The lobster was very tender and tasty. My husband had a filet mignon which was perfectly cooked and had very little fat - he loved it! The place is a little pricey so it's something that's perfect for a special occasion. read more

If you want a spectacular dinner with dimly lit candles and ambience of historical significance, Bube's is it! Our server was wonderful, drinks were unique and tasty, and the food was devine! This night included a tour of the catacombs at 43' below the street. This man Bube immigrated from his home town in Bavaria and wine and beer was his passion that became his business. This place is crazy spent $ 200.00 plus tip for two cups of soup that was lukewarm and so salty I could not eat it , 2 sandwiches, 1 mac and cheese . Every thing was cold . The service was so slow I almost fell asleep. They wanted to charge us a fee of $ 2.00 per person to cut the cake we brought in for my son's graduation from Elizabeth town college. The food is lousy, service is slow even when the restaurant is slow, their own beer is flat - hard no. Won't attend again. Overpriced food for poorly reheated items. Personally loathe restaurants that ask "how would you like that cooked" and can't deliver - the teen was asked and said a well done burger, and it even had a "Well Done" wooden pick in it; came out medium rare. Their pretzel is massive and the best thing we had that night , however 6$ for 1/4cup of "Mexican corn dip" (which doesn't taste like elotes or esquites at all), their beer cheese tasted like they used their sour which had us three all commenting that it tasted like a sour gummy worm - I REPEAT, THE BEER CHEESE TASTED LIKE SOUR GUMMY WORMS?! Their "hot mustard" was like wasabi , straight up burrrrn. The pierogis were left in the food lamp too long , tastes like they use bagged bacon bits which got awful under said lamp, and their flatbread ?! OMG their 20$~ flatbread was absolutelyyyyy awful. Brie, fig, and balsalmic glaze was neither tasting as fancy as that sounded and underwhelming on all fronts. Ambience is poorly lit orange-pink-yellow Christmas lights this mid-January in the bar, at 10% restaurant capacity it'll take them 15 mins to come greet you and you'll wait half an hour for your appetizers and shortly after your entrees, the beer will be flat, other patrons will comment about the floaters in their beer and hair in their food, as you realize the silverware you just unrolled looks poorly washed. 115$ for mediocre food and a lousy experience. Won't return. Advise against anyone else going - it has really gone downhill lately, as evident as their "hiring all positions" flyer in their bathrooms indicate. read more

This is the oldest brewery in the US however the food is mediocre and the front desk greeter/host greeted us with what can we do for you. Not hello and welcome but what can we do for you in his backwards Star Wars baseball cap. Then we were seated in an area that wasn't where we reserved and it was at least 85 degrees. When we asked to be moved to the floor we made the reservation for, the staff argued with us. We finally got moved to the area we made the reservation for where several empty seats were and no one from the hot floor was moved even though seats were open. I have been wanting to come here for so long. I finally did it!! You definitely need a reservation to eat in the catacombs. It is so worth it!! What an amazing experience! You begin with a short tour of the upstairs before you make your descend to the catacombs. Such amazing history and an awesome atmosphere. It is not cold like I was expecting. I was very comfortable but I had a jacket with me just incase. The food is very good. The service was wonderful. Keep in mind the steps you go down so does the waitstaff. They have a good seasonal drink menu. After dinner we hung out in their bar. For the warmer weather they have a beautiful beer garden!!! I will definitely go back in the warmer weather. Place is cool to go to. You dine underground, in catacombs. Started upstairs in the bar area since we got there about 20 mins early. Bar is old and has the remembrance of the bar your father or grandfather would go to. Lots of different IPA's which I'm not into so ordered a domestic draft which was on the verge of skunkiness. Our bartender was very non-engaging like she wanted to be somewhere else and spent more time talking and eating food. You get a small tour of the old brewery which in our case was conducted by the great, great, great grandniece of the founder. Tour was cut short due to a function in one of the tour areas. Dining area was dimly lit to add to the atmosphere of being in a cave. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I got the French Onion soup and the tomahawk pork chop with mashed potatoes and green beans. The soup was horrible. It should be called French Thyme Soup because that's all you could taste and very little onion. I was picking out pieces of thyme from my teeth and gums for hours. The pork chop was delicious with the pineapple chutney. Had to get new mashed potatoes because mine were ice cold but the hot ones were delicious. Green beans were well they were green beans. Too stuffed for dessert. Pricing not too bad compared to the tri-state area. Would go back again for their haunted tour. Parking is available but skimpy. read more

Horrible! The Restaurant Mgr. Kelly was the worst. We made reservations for the restaurant 3 months in advance, giving the $25 deposit on my credit card. I had to reschedule to which they said no problem. By chance the day before our dinner I called to confirm and they said that they had cancelled it without informing me because they had refunded my deposit when I cancelled. I said no, I didn't cancel, just reschedule and looking at my VISA statement they hadn't refunded my deposit. They said that they would have the Mgr. Kelly call me the next day, the day of our reservation. So that morning we drove the 2 hours to get there, called and spoke with Kelly who said she would look into "squeezing me in". I asked her to call me on my cell phone that day to confirm as we were on the road there. She called me back on the house phone saying they had an opening at 4 PM but I didn't get that message till the next day. I called there again that day but was only able to leave a message and they didn't call me back on the cell so we ate elsewhere. Very dissapointing. I finally reached Kelly 2 days later ands asked her what she was going to do for me, she replied "Not a damn thing", she said she was very busy giving 3 group tours that day. I told her that is unacceptable, had I no-showed they would have kept my deposit so they should do the same. She said "no way", awful. After this I left the owner Sam Allen several messages to discuss this but he didn't return my calls. I'm not sure if Kelly screened and deleted these calls. Boo!!! read more

The experience starts off with a little tour of the catacombs and parts of what the building started off as - a hotel. You end with being seated in a very aesthetic area of the catacombs. Our waiters were very nice, and even compensated part of the meal as the some of the food took very long to come out. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure to check on us! The food was really good - the salmon and chicken entrees were delicious. The bruschetta appetizer was also tasty. I've heard about this place for a while so my family and I drove about 40 minutes here to check it out for dinner. Theres street parking as well as a parking lot. The building itself is so unique but has all sorts of odds and ends throughout to look at. We were greeted by the hostess who simply asked if sitting inside was okay assuming we didn't want to be outside. We were quickly sat and then continued to sit for about 10 minutes before our server came over to us. Our server was really nice and tried her best to keep up but we felt forgotten about from the start. We had to ask for refills a couple of times. The food was out lickity split. I do find their prices relatively fair for the portions you get. The Nashville hot wings were good and fried perfectly. The fried pickles could have been a touch crispier. Gave my GF the wrong meal and didn't come back to check in for another 20 minutes. By that point I was almost done with my meal and she was left starving. Definitely don't recommend. Atmosphere was nice but service was slow and the waiters were constantly on their phones over at the kiosk. They required a $25 deposit but the room was practically empty. I think 3 of the 12 tables had customers. The table was sticky, and it took over an hour to get our meals. My salmon was pretty good but the brussles sprouts were the equivalent of salt bombs. Called and made a reservation over the phone to have dinner in the catacombs over 2 weeks ago. Drove 2 hours to eat here, but they made a reservation for the wrong restaurant. It was their mistake but told us there was nothing they ca do. Waste of gas and time and manager wouldn't even come out to talk to us. read more
