I don't typically write reviews, but the Bubbles at Fairfax Corner was a truly great experience. The review is for Jesus in very particular. I never thought someone would spend so much time on listening to me, really truly thinking about what we should do, and deliver so flawlessly. A little bit of a background -- I had my hair done, twice in five days, by another salon, and it was an absolute mess. I had no hope it was going to be fixed as quickly as I needed (three days later). I walked into Bubbles hoping for some advice. The super nice front desk person suggested I speak to Jesus for consultation when I told her about my horrible experience previously. I was back there the next day for consultation. Jesus took 45 minutes to just look at my hair, asking about the previous cut and color, and what I had wanted initially. He spent so much time really figuring out how we could work with what we had. I was in there in two days, and he spent another 2.5 hours on my hair, and I couldn't believe my eyes when he was done!!! It was better than I had imagined, and as I said, I'm writing this a week later, and it still looks amazing, and I get compliments all the time!! I have never ever walked out of a salon with a smile on my face. A week later, I cannot believe how great the color and cut looks! So on point. read more

If I could give this a 0 I would but it does not allow you to be that honest! I had an appointment last night with ESTER who NO ONE should ever use and I am not sure why she is working. To give some background I went in with a straight bob, boring, with bangs, and right at the shoulder line. I told her I did not want to go too short and I went in with pictures of my old haircut from all angles so she could see the cut. I asked her BEFORE we started if she was able to restore that cut. She said "Oh yes, no problem" and we went to shampoo. When we got back to the chair, I showed her the photos again and did a thumbs up and said you are sure you can do it? She said yes. At one point she stopped cutting and said that she needed to bring the back up a little bit on the bottom. At this point I touched the back of my head to find NO HAIR. The cut I wanted was an a symmetrical bob basically with a stack in the back to give it more body. The cut is still long and I would still have hair in the back - lots of it in fact. I walked out with a pixie haircut in the back and part of what I wanted on the sides. I was literally crying in the chair and she was still CUTTING my hair. I had to beg her to stop. I finally put my hand up at her and said NO MORE! Two AMAZING stylists came over (IRENA and JESSICA) and took me to a more private area where I was in tears. I showed them the photos of what I wanted and what I had. To make matters worse, these ladies looked at the back and said that she did not do the pixie cut correctly so its very choppy and the layers are not connected so the back looks bad and both agreed unfixable. Jessica did see where she could blend a few areas to help with the flow from the sides to the back and offered to do that explaining that the cut would be even shorter but would look better from the sides and front. I agreed. Both IRENA and JESSICA did everything they could to fix this but basically said there was nothing they could do outside of these small changes. The back is still a mess and the only solution is to wait about 6-8 weeks for some of this to grow back in and to I am sure cut it more to then connect the layers. I completed a complaint form and someone is supposed to call me. This does not give me my hair back, this does not fix the huge blunder that is the back of my head for the next 2 months while it grows in, and it does not fix the fact that some woman is over there butchering hair. The worst was ESTER staring at me crying while these other two are trying to fix her HUGE mistake. At the end she was pacing around the area I was in and I told Jessica, she better not approach me. Sure enough, she did. Jessica had to ask her to walk away and leave me alone. Some of you may think this is not a big deal but to have less than an inch of hair in the back of your head from having a shoulder length bob makes me sick to my stomach. I did not ask for this cut AT ALL and she had PHOTOS from multiple angles and I asked her if she could re-create the cut. I cried all last night and this morning it took over an hour to try and get this cut to look somewhat professional for work. I had to buy product to help mask the back and then was told this morning from a co-worker to buy Biotin to help is grow faster. So even though I did not have to pay for this awful cut, I have paid $15 in product, $15 in Biotin, and will have to pay for more frequent visits to now get this horrible mistake manageable again. read more

I had the salon nightmare experience everyone prays will never happen to them. I had made an Appt with Rocio, the master stylist for 11 AM. I am not a regular here, I am not very familiar with names or faces. I walk in and one of the male stylists asks me if I had an appt at 11, to which i reply yes, and he motions me to come take a seat in his chair. He did not ask me my name, nor who my appt was with. I had no way to know if Rocio was male or female, and at this point I was not concerned that I might be with the wrong stylist. I explained to him what I wanted (lighted balayage, root melt) and he got straight to it. Halfway through my head, his original client walks in and he realizes I am not the client he's supposed to be taking care of. He introduces me to Rocio and leaves me with a half head of foils. Rocio was clearly taken aback. She looked at what he'd done and informed me that he had already messed up. she used those exact words. She even said to me twice that she was very stressed out. She said we needed to completely start over and then decided she didn't have enough time today and that I'd have to come back tomorrow. I look nuts! My hair was a reck. She called her next client and moved their time back which I did appreciate. she then proceeds to tell me that it's going to cost over $500 BEFORE TIP to fix what was done. How are you going to charge me an absurd amount for something that was not my fault!? She then offered to do my $35 olaplex treatment for free for the inconvenience. I was visibly very angry about this price, so she decided she wasn't going to take care of me and made another stylist take over, even though I had specifically made the appt with the master stylist for a reason. Anyways, Linh took over and she was a DOLL. she was very apologetic and did the entire service for free (besides the $60 cut which I gladly paid for). I highly recommend Linh, she was the only true professional in this entire experience, and my hair is beautiful! I'm glad Linh took over, but the right thing would've been for Rocio to fix my hair with an extreme discount, if not for free. Both Rocio and that gentleman (unsure of his name) need some proper training so that nothing like this ever happens to another client again. It was terrible. But thank you again, Linh! The salon is small which is a drawback but I still get excellent service every time I come here and I love the Fairfax Corner shopping center. GREAT haircut by Arthur!! Couldn't have asked for a better guy to take care of my hair. I came in with a dye-saster, where I had dyed my hair purple before Christmas, dark brown after New Years, and had deep-fried brunette hair with blonde growing from the roots. I wanted to return to my natural blonde for my birthday in April. That was a lot of color in such a short period of time that Arthur had to correct, and he NAILED IT. He brought back my blonde from a pic I showed him, added some great subtle highlights, and gave me a fresh layered cut that was exactly what I was looking for. Plus, I guess Bubbles' thing is to give you a complimentary hair conditioner treatment on your birthday, and it worked! He listened to my requests and problems, and really knew what he was talking about when he gave me his advice. My only downside is the price; of course, it was worth every single penny, but on my budget, I can't swing $230 on a regular basis. Still, ARTHUR all the way!! I have been to see Rocio a few times. She is a great hairstylist, and I love the haircut and color that she gives me. However, I am not going to return. The last three times I have gone, she has rushed me out of there with the excuse that there is someone coming right after. The last two times I have said that I wanted to cut, and she has tried to get out of doing one. She is a good stylist, and I'm not sure if it's the entire salon or just her. However, double booking is something that stylists shouldn't do because you come off as unprofessional, especially when women spend so much on hair. read more

I have been looking for a salon and a stylist ever since I moved to Northern Virginia three years ago and let me tell you I have finally found the one. I decided to take a chance at the Bubbles in Fairfax Corner after hearing great things about Bubbles Salons in other areas. I didn't have an appointment my first go and Irena welcomed me over to her station almost immediately. I hadn't had my hair cut in over 6 months in protest of my last botched hair cut and thus my hair had grown out super long and had terrible split ends. I also have fine, straight hair and the cut I wanted the model had thicker, more voluminous hair. She advised me on how she could do a similar cut and what would work best with my hair and face. I appreciate that so much more than the stylist trying their best and then me being disappointed in the end when I don't look like the model. Throughout the wash and cut I was very comfortable, she didn't force small talk and since I'm shy I appreciated not feeling like I needed to talk to her throughout the whole process. Also ,the salon itself is very clean the way you expect a salon to be. When she was finished, I was so happy with my haircut. I got about 6 inches cut and had bangs and I love, love, loved it! She did exactly what I wanted. I've been going to her every since and I don't plan to cheat on her! Last time I went she did face-framing highlights for me. They were having a special and she asked if I was feeling adventurous. I was skeptical at first, but I know she has done so well with my hair in the past that I let her pick the color and go for it. My expectations were exceeded. They are incredibly well placed and the color is perfect, they look so natural. This is a long review, but I recommend Bubbles and especially Irena. She is amazingly talented and knows this industry down to the T. She is also a makeup artist so says her card. I haven't needed a makeup artist, but if I do I will know where to go. read more

Nancy ruined my hair!! First I showed up for a 4:30 appt with Zoe but had to wait 45 mins before anyone took me to a chair. Nancy came over and said she'd cut my hair because Zoe was busy. I showed her the first photo. Very simple. I had hair to the top of my shoulders so I basically just wanted a layered/shaggy bob. Now have a weird frizzy mullet shag. Immediately after the cut my hair is terrible but I didn't know the extent of the damage and hair loss until I got home and washed it. The last few pics are after I got home and washed and blow dried to see if I could make it look better. I could not. She razor cut the entire thing so it's super frizzy and now looks unhealthy. Cool. She cut off over half my hair!!!! I just spent a year and a half growing out a pixie and it's gone in a matter of minutes. I'm devastated at how terrible my hair looks and how thin it is now because the top half is so short. I can't even hold a ponytail anymore. A year and a half of patience to grow out my hair and now I've just gone 100 steps back. I will never come to this salon again. read more

First, the person cutting my hair did not take me back to the chair till half an hour past my appointment time. I brought pictures of the style I wanted and asked if he could do that with my hair or what he would suggest. His response - Oh yes, yes, no problem. Add to that, the haircut he gave me is not particularly good. AND the price of a cut and style was $5 more than what is listed on the online menu for the store. If you have thick hair and want an updo I don't recommend Linh. From the begining I told her what I wanted - half up half down. She said "No, I like it more when It is more up than down." Want to guess what I ended up with? She seemed to micromanage the other stylists and complained about the thickness of my hair. I've had a ton of updos and never had one fall or cause me pain. She put an excessive amount pins in there seemed worried it would fall. I did get a headache and had what felt like a bruise on my scalp that night and the next day. Disappointed. I could have gotten a cut and blow dry and gone like that. Would have looked better and cost the same. But at least I learned not give this stylist a chance to cut my hair. Yes the place is small, but they actually work the room pretty well. read more

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a very laid back, flexible, and understanding person. I made an appointment for 12:15pm. I arrived at 12:10pm, checked in, and sat down to wait. At 12:18pm, I was told that my stylist was running 15-20 minutes behind. I said "no problem" and left to wander around outside for a bit to kill time. I returned at 12:35pm. I made eye contact with the front desk person (same person who checked me in) and smiled, but then I stood in the entrance (because all the seats were taken) for another 10 minutes and no one gave me an updated time or really even acknowledged me. At 12:45pm, I looked around and realized that none of the stylists were even close to finishing. I politely asked the front desk person if she had an update and she looked confused and couldn't provide me with an answer, so I told her I was going to leave. She said something to the male stylist to her left (who seemed like he might be in charge) and he essentially gave me a shoulder shrug, as if to say "sorry, not my problem." I waited for another few seconds to see if anything else would be said/done and then I left. No one apologized to me or really seemed to care. I will not be returning. Lots of similar salon options in the area - avoid this one. read more

I have been coming here for about 10 years and I am very pleased! All of the stylists are very nice and seem very good. My kids both love getting their hair cuts here and the stylists are incredibly family and little kid friendly. I wish the space was bigger in terms of seating and room for the stylists to do their thing but the stylists rise above that and still give top service. read more

After moving to the area a couple of months ago, I was in need of a haircut so I had heard of Bubbles from a coworker. I thought "it's so convenient to my house, why not?" I arrived on time for my appointment and was checked in by the receptionist who was friendly enough. I then waited just a few moments before being taken back by Jenny. She asked me what I would like done, however, it was not a very thorough "consultation." She didn't ask how I like to style my hair, how I part it, or any small details. Essentially all she wanted to know was how much to cut off. During the haircut Jenny did not do anything to initiate any type of conversation. I literally sat there while she cut my hair and it was silent between the two of us, except when she very obviously tried to push me to purchase products. The haircut was okay. Certainly not the best I've had, and the layers weren't blended in well, but it wasn't the worst experience I've had. At the end I was asked if I wanted to purchase any products and I declined. I then paid up front, which at this point the receptionist was somewhat standoffish. If I was in a pinch I would go back here but I think I'll probably try looking elsewhere. read more

They gave me a woman named Gina. When she washed my hair, she rubbed my head very hard and scratched it so much that, afterwards, my scalp was sore. Then she didn't seem to speak or understand English very well, so it was hard to explain to her what I wanted. Plus it was also very hard to understand what she was saying from strong Asian accent. I had to speak slowly to her, and I guess she still didn't understand what I wanted. She gave me a very bad haircut. After this haircut, I was even embarrassed to show myself around because the cut was so bad, and it looked bad. It was uneven, and she didn't do any layers. It looked almost like a bowl haircut. It was so flat. I had to go elsewhere to get it corrected. I should have not given her any tip. She didn't deserve one. The whole experience was bad. The hair salon in itself is so small, and narrow, that you go in there, and it is so stuffy with all the smells from the different hair products. You feel oppressed in that place. read more

I have been to bubbles two times, both for a TRIM. The first time was okay (average) but this second time was the worst experience of my life. My hair is very important to me; I have very long hair and it's taken me a long time to get it that way. I made an appointment with one hairstylist but instead another one was there which already had me on red alert since it was a different person than who I had scheduled with. I stressed to her, really stressed that I wanted a very very small trim, I still wanted long hair I just wanted maybe two inches of the dead hair removed. She showed me how much she thought she should cut, and while it was a tad bit more (maybe an inch) than I wanted, it still kept my hair long so I went with that. However, the end result was disastrous. She completely chopped off my hair, at least double what I wanted and said I was comfortable with. Now I have short hair at my shoulders when before I had very long hair down my back. I am extremely upset and angry and will not be returning to this salon ever again. read more

This salon is DISORGANIZED and UNPROFESSIONAL! The one time I went there to have my hair colored the stylist turned it jet black. Then she tried to fix it and turned it orange. A complete disaster - I had to go to a completely different salon to fix their mess and it cost me another $200! Another time they rescheduled an appointment for me - then when I got there told me they made a mistake and couldn't fit me in! When I then asked to be told who had answered the phone that morning and given me that time - no one apparently knew who had answered the phone!!! Even the store manager didn't know who was making the appointments and all she said was 'it could have been anyone'! If all you need is a trim - you should be ok as long as they don't mess up their appointment times and 'forget' you had one that is! An extremely dissatisfied customer. read more

Michael is an amazing stylist. I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for Michael on here! Michael did my color touchup which had a lot of overgrowth. He matched the color perfectly and gave me a very flattering cut. Michael can be intimidating at first if you're a new client because he works quickly, but if you watch him, you will find that he is very detail oriented and works with great precision, which ultimately speaks to his expertise. That is a good thing when it comes to the outcome of your hair. You can tell that he enjoys styling hair, and is very knowledgeable. You got to trust the man! If you're open to a new look that would be a good fit for your face, I would suggest Michael. I did not do a change of color, but after seeing the results of my color, I did ask him to style and cut my hair as he suggested, and I've never seen my hair look so great (and I've been to many stylists.)
