I wasn't a fan of the haircut I received - it was not the same as the picture I showed, but it was what the hair stylist had indicated she would do (a misunderstanding on my part). In addition, I had a lot of heat damage as a result of her blow drying technique. She did not use any heat protectant, was using high heat (I could see steam rising) and continuously blow dryed my hair for 40 minutes, stopping only to "texturize" and remove volume. My hair is still quite damaged a few weeks later, and I didn't even like my hair cut. read more

Could not have been more disappointed with my experience today. I took my 10 year old in for a simple kid haircut. The designer was very nice, but gave her a $22 conditioning treatment without explaining to me that it was an extra cost. The treatment was painful to her and left her scalp flaky. If I had been fully informed, I would have said no because she has a sensitive scalp. So, her $25 simple haircut turned into a $47 traumatizing experience. read more

Told me it wouldn't look good and just wouldn't work with my hair then lectured me about how it wouldn't look good. She told me I had very healthy hair and said I HAD to use a leave in conditioner EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Then proceeded to tell me about it about a hundred more times during the 30 minute hair cut. She made the whole experience really uncomfortable and I probably will never come back. Also the hair I left with makes me look like the berries and cream guy when the picture I showed had more of a beachy vibe. read more

I have visited this salon faithfully for 10+ years and referred many friends and colleagues there as well. My haircuts were always decent, sometime great, but never bad. However, after my most recent experience, I will never again return to this salon. I booked an appointment 5 days ahead of time for a formal updo for a black-tie work event. I received a reminder call ahead of time and everything seemed fine. I got to my appointment a few minutes early and was prepared with my inspiration photo. I have shoulder-length straight hair cut in a lob, and I wanted a simple bun with any kind of volume. I settled in with the stylist and showed her what I wanted. She immediately told me that she couldn't do it because my hair was not long enough, and that the style in the photo had a donut (fake bun underneath the hair). I commented that I was familiar with the donut because I had used them before and had one at home. She then asked me if I could go home to get my donut. I guess I should not have expected a hair salon to have those in stock? Am I unreasonably shocked that she asked me to go home - a trip that would have taken over 20 minutes - during my appointment? I replied that it would take too long to go all the way home and back, and she replied that she had another appointment in 30 minutes anyway. Am I unreasonably shocked that either the salon or the stylist only scheduled 30 minutes for my formal updo, when I had made an appointment 5 days earlier? I then said that I wasn't too picky, and I asked the stylist if she had any other suggestions for my hair. Again, my hair is shoulder length and I have no problem putting it in a ponytail - all I wanted was my hair to be up. This work event has me on my feet for 7+ hours in a gown and heels, so I just wanted it off my neck. She ran her fingers through my hair a few times, said that it was hard because I don't have any layers in my hair (which made me feel like she was hair shaming me), and didn't have any other suggestions. Am I unreasonably shocked that a professional hair stylist did not have any suggestions on how to put my hair up in a way that looked nice? At this point, I just sat there awkwardly looking at the stylist and her looking back at me. I didn't have a lot of time to waste before my event, so I said "I guess I'll just go home then." I got up and walked out the door, and no one - including the stylist - tried to stop me or even say anything to me at all. At no point was I rude or demanding or anything but polite and flexible, and I felt humiliated and completely mistreated as a customer. Upon returning home, in between trying to do my own hair for my event, I called the corporate phone number for Ratner (the company that owns Bubbles and Hair Cuttery) and relayed my experience to the customer service agent on the phone. He said that someone would call me back within 2-3 business days. It's been 5 business days since then - one full week - and I haven't heard a peep from anyone. It's very clear that Ratner / Bubbles do not care about retaining their customers. I feel completely invisible as a customer - ironic for a company whose mission is likely quite the opposite - and for that reason, I'll never return to one of their salons again. They do your hair really well and nice, but they change up their prices a lot unfortunately, I book online through an appointment and it'll say a price and then once I get to the counter it's a completely different price not including tip. I went in for my sisters haircut to get bangs and online it said a starting price of $25-$30 for KIDS depending on if u want a specific stylist, and then when the lady was looking at my sisters hair she wanted to charge me $75 for shampoo and haircut!!! for KIDS, my sister has straight hair so it's nothing like hard to deal with like my own. But this has happened for the past 2 times i've gone here, it's a really nice place and they do actually do your hair well, but don't trust the listing price on their websites. They'll say $25 online and then charge you over $50 at the counter. I know they also charge for better stylist but like $75 for some bangs, ( didn't even blow dry it btw just a shampoo and cut) is a little much and i'm not even cheap like that honestly. I was a long-time bubbles client both in Northern VA and in Virginia Beach. Anytime I really wanted a new hair cut or color I would schedule an appointment and was always happy with the result. That was until last fall when I started going to the Bubbles in Fairfax Corner rather than the one back home in VA Beach or the one in Tysons Corner. Having had such great experiences in the past with Bubbles, I said I didn't care who my stylist was. I was paired with a girl who was fresh out of beauty school. But I wasn't too concerned because she was friendly and I had always had wonderful stylists at other Bubbles. I spoke to her about how I wanted to take my medium brown hair back to my natural blonde color. She told me what I already knew, that it would take a few months to healthily make the transformation. I was fine with that and we did the first set of highlights. The highlights were minimal, but I was happy with the cut, so I scheduled my second session. After my second session my hair was practically the same color I had originally came in with, just with a few streaks added. I was not happy. I understand that switching from brown to blonde is a delicate process, but I felt that I was being ripped off. I called back the next day and expressed my concern. I scheduled another appointment to get more highlights. As I was chatting with the stylist, she told me about how she had gone out the night before and was really hung over. Then she left me in the middle of putting foils in my hair, asking another hairdresser to step in, because she needed to throw up. She came back and told me this and proceeded on with my hair. The hair color was still not what I wanted and looked very mousey. At that point, I decided that for the prices Bubble charges this type of service and product was just not acceptable. I contacted another salon and they were able to lighten my hair with one appointment for half the cost. I will not be going back to Bubbles any time soon, nor would I recommend the Fairfax Bubbles to my friends. My sole reason for giving it two stars rather than one, is on account of the positive experiences I had at other Bubble Salons in the past. Maybe I just pulled the short straw. read more

Took my two boys (6 and 10) to the Fairfax Corner Bubbles on Sun 4/17. Had pictures from Pinterest that showed choppy, shaggy boys' haircuts. My youngest has been growing his hair for 2 months because he loves the Winter Soldier. Told the stylist I just wanted it shaped up, but wanted to keep his on-the-collar curls and length. Half way through the style, my son looked upset, so I walked over to look. It looked like she was going to take an inch off the top layer, so I said, that looks like a lot. I told her, his hair's curly, so it's going to shrink up more when it's dry. She snipped it off and said it was for the layers. But it was too freaking short. We were stuck, and I figured I should let her even it out. But holy cow, what a hack job. His curls are all gone, his length is all gone. She gave me a traditional boy's haircut, which I SPECIFICALLY told her I didn't want. Here's the best part--she got pissed off at ME when I asked why she made it so short. She said. "What picture did you show me, huh? I did what you asked for!" But as I tried to pull the picture out to show her it wasn't, she said, "Fine. It's free." And then she proceeded to tell me that she "took her time" and gave him a "good hair cut" and did a good job. She told me it was my fault for upsetting him because I came over to the chair to ask what was wrong (he looked so sad and upset) and that he would have been happy if it wasn't for me. Then she whipped off the cape, didn't bother brushing him off or drying his shirt (which was sopping wet from the shampoo or something) and stalked off into the backroom. I mean, I've had bad haircuts. It happens. But I've NEVER been treated like that when I brought it up. Now I have a very upset little boy and have to go get the stupid cut fix, because get this--it ISN'T a good cut! There are multiple pieces that are really long--like an inch longer than the rest of the section--that need to be taken care of. I won't be going back to any bubbles ever again. If this is the kind of customer service they provide, and the shoddy cuts they give, forget it. read more

Sarah gave me a hair cut and updated my highlights. She did an amazing job, was efficent and friendly. I have been searching for someone who does really good blonde hair for a LONG time. And to her compliment when I was recently in San Diego and got my hair styled, the woman told me to tell my hair dresser that they were doing a fantastic job! That the color and cut were GREAT, it made the style EASY. Now.... THAT is a compliment! I am looking forward to my next appointment so I can tell Sarah how awesome she is in person. I will mention that the front desk is not that efficient and it took a LONG time for me to be able to pay and leave and there were people checking in that seemed to be annoyed with the system of getting in, getting checked in and getting to their stylist. HELP!? Based on YELP's reviews I made a hair appt. with Michael a month ago with these quotes: $55 color + $40 for a cut = $95. I'll speak first about being overcharged at my checkout - $35 extra. Because I addressed this issue with the Salon Leader, Clementime, it was handled in a timely manner. I saw Michael for my first visit but he did not communicate with me regarding my haircut or hair color. So I ended up with dark brown hair instead of medium blonde and the back of my hair was chopped off!! Omg there's no way to style it now. It's going to take at least a year to grow it back. I would not recommend Bubbles to family/friends. read more

I was hesitant to go here because it's a chain, and I guess I had some prejudice about that. But I'm glad I went because I've been happy here, and I'm getting better service than I was at my previous (pricier) salon. My stylist, Jessica, is great. The prices here are good. I get a cut, style, and highlight for $120. I've been to three salons since I started highlighting my hair, and that's the cheapest amount I've been charged so far. I will continue to be a regular here. The place is small but cute, and the stylists and receptionists are all nice. Plus, they're fast. You will have the same person working on your hair from start to finish (including the shampoo), so there's no waiting around as your stylist tries to juggle a couple of appointments at once. Rocio matched my current hair color exactly to touch up my roots and listened to me when I said that I wanted a trim that took off less than an inch of my hair. For my style, I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did it with ease. For the color, wash, trim, blow dry, and style, it took Rocio just 90 minutes She was so quick and efficient but I never felt like I was being rushed or that she was doing less than sub par work. Ever since I moved away from my favorite salon (and it was hard to afford the $50+ hair cuts) I've always jumped from salon to salon. I never really had a regular spot because either the service was just mediocre, expensive, but most importantly it was hard to find a stylist I could connect with. I decided to check out Bubbles based on a friend's recommendation. At first I had the same issue - I had lukewarm feelings about my stylist, but a couple months ago I decided to give them another shot. And now I think I've found my home salon. I had Kristin and she is just great. She knows exactly what type of style to cut my hair without me having to explain or show a picture. I just tell her what I have in mind (keep it long so I can curl and braid) but give my hair the shape it needs to not look flat. And I love my hair every time. She also styles it well and I don't leave the studio feeling like I had an 80s blowout or look like a soccer mom. Yes, I speak from past experience. She is also great with color. I told her I wanted this crazy dip dye style and she recommended something different yet similar based on what will work best with my hair. I've already come back to her several times and I will continue to. Also the rest of the staff is really friendly - the receptionists, the shampoo gals, and the other stylists. My appointment was for women's haircut & an olaplex deep conditioning treatment (quoted for $35). My hairstylist Rucio was excellent. She advised that my hair doesn't need the olaplex deep conditioning rather the step down and was up front of its cost ($25). After the treatment, she cut my hair very elegantly, added layers and detail, while keeping my length. At the end of it, she made me love my hair all over again. It was a fantastic feeling! Rucio gets 5/5 for my experience. My only complaint is the billing portion. Even though Rucio did the $25 deep conditioning I was charged the original $35 olaplex deep conditioning treatment price. The lady tried to scam me into buying different packages (thank god this wasn't my first time getting color done) and she also completely ruined the color of my hair and the highlights were disgusting and didn't even go to my scalp leaving some strands of my hair only half colored. When I moved back from Germany I was a little lost to finding a hair stylist that would work for me. I tried to Bubbles in the mall across the highway when it was still opened and had an extremely bad experience which included cleaning globs of hair dye out of my ear when I got home. So when a friend insisted that I tried her hair stylist at the bubbles here I was a little scared. Sarah has been my hair stylist ever since and has worked with me on my flighty little changes here and there on my coloring. She is friendly, funny and does a great job on my cut and coloring. I called at 8 to see if they could take a walk in but no one answered so I waited for about 15 minutes in the parking lot for them to open (since yelp said they opened at 9 and there weren't any hours on their website - this is the reason for minus 1 star). At 9 am they were able to get me in immediately. **They open at 8 on Saturdays, FYI. I had Linh, who was PHENOMENAL. She explained what she was going to do and the cost difference between the two processes. She cut my hair exactly how I wanted and my color was perfect. I highly, highly recommend her! I used to do walk-ins at the Hair Cuttery. I got the bad lady 1 in 5 times. Not bad odds; wait 3 weeks and try it again. But the bad lady started treating me like a regular and 1 in 5 turned into 4 in 5. So I thought I'd give Bubbles in Fairfax Corner a try. That was 2 yrs ago and Irena has been taking care of me ever since. My standard directions have always been simple; my hair needs to be neat and require very little effort on my part - the style is up to the stylist (that's what they do). I couldn't be happier Irena. The lengths and styles vary but my hair always looks good and my unruly cowlick is now mostly under control. If you're a guy getting by with 1 in 5 you should give Irena a call; 4 in 5 is probably on the horizon. read more
