I highly recommend Ginger at Pentagon City. She worked with my imprecise notion that I wanted my hair short, and gave me something perfect- just at the edge of my risk window, but different enough that I just felt liberated. Then I went back for color and a touchup cut right before my wedding. On my wedding day, all I needed to do was run a comb and throw on the tiara- my hair was perfect. I got compliments from family and inlaws, and a few were disappointed that they lived too many states away to get their hair cut their themselves. I also got one of the products she recommended because I appreciated that she realized I wasn't a "product" girl and liked a wash-n-go lifestyle. She recommended a spray that helps protect and detangle without adding any minutes to my morning routine. Very reasonably priced for a true "salon" experience. read more

This is a great spot for a good haircut without spending a bundle. I first went to Delilah a year and a half ago in desperation- I had an AWFUL cut (which I spent way too much on) and she did a great job fixing it up. I recently moved to DC from California and visited Bubbles after asking a lady with a solid haircut where she went. She recommended Hilda - so I gave it a try. I was a bit reluctant after reading so many negative reviews. I met Hilda and while young she was very professional asked me about my lifestyle what I wanted not only today but my expectations a year from now. I will definitely go back! I absolutely recommend Hilda - I've paid hundreds for cuts and this is frankly the BEST cut that I've ever had - ever! I hate getting my hair cut, and and this experience pretty much had all of the elements that usually make me only get my hair cut once a year. I arrived 15 mins early, fully prepared to wait 20 mins or so. The 15 mins passed, and then another 30 mins past my scheduled appointment time. I finally go up to the counter to ask how much longer, and get immediately taken back to Edgar, who I had requested based on earlier reviews, and he basically said he'd just been hanging out for the last half an hour, I guess because he didn't know I was there. Seriously, if there is a client sitting on the bench for 45 mins someone should notice and figure out what the problem is. Ugh, this made me so mad. Maybe it was my own fault for waiting so long, but I try to be understanding of the customer service business and I figured the previous appointment ran long. There is no excuse for the stylist simply not knowing I was there. Then we get to the hair. I didn't have a set idea in mind of what I wanted, but wanted to keep some length. He said he'd keep it long and just add some layers. Well, I dunno where those layers are, but they're not on my head. It's really hard to see if the layers are there when your hair is still wet, but by the time it was all blown our there was just the slightest bit of tapering at the ends. Not a true layer in sight. Basically, it looks like I didn't even get my hair cut. Looks like it might be another year before I get my hair cut again because I'm so annoyed at this experience. I used to cut my own hair, but have recently started having someone else cut it. My wife has had good experiences at this location with the stylist Eshet, so I decided to try her out. I wasn't let down. Eshet was friendly and listened carefully to what I wanted done with my hair. I asked her not to take off very much, and she didn't--which, in my experience, is rare for stylists. My wife and I are very happy with the end result. I'll be going back for sure. Also, my hair is curly, which gave her no troubles. As for the establishment, I was greeted quickly after I entered, it was clean, and I was offered tea while I waited. The only thing that bothered be was the closet in the front area for coats, it seemed kind of vulnerable and there was a sign posted explaining that that salon is not responsible for theft. I've been going to Eshet for going on 2 years now for a relaxer and trim for my very curly hair. She is wonderful! She makes sure she understands what I want, takes her time, and asks me if everything looks okay afterwards. I really enjoy catching up with her each time I'm there, and it is such a relaxing experience for me. The price is pretty good for this area too. The salon is quite hopping when I'm there, which is week day evenings after work, but I've never had trouble getting an appointment- I just call a couple of weeks in advance. I've had great experiences with other Bubbles locations in the past, so I decided to give this one a try. I'm so glad I did! I have had two appointments with Jade and I have loved my hair each time. She is very thorough and takes her time to make sure everything is perfect. Plus she is super nice and great about explaining exactly what she's doing, and asking for my opinion (and listening to it). I have been coming to this Bubbles location since the one in Landmark Mall closed. I followed the stylist there. Bad news, she's no longer there. Good news, I've been seeing Eshet for a few years now, and she's wonderful. She's an amazing colorist, she cuts my hair exactly the way I ask, and always has ideas for something a little fresh and new when I tire of my same old, same old. The ONLY time I've had a less than optimal experience is when I went with a stylist I didn't know or who didn't come well recommended by someone whose hair I've seen looking great. That happened once when I was in a pinch and it was YEARS ago. The stylist still works there, but maybe she's better by now.........like I said it was YEARS ago that I had a less than great experience, hence the 4 starts. If you stick with a stylist like ESHET who is truly a remarkable colorist and does a great cut/style as well, you'll be very, very happy. I'm multiethnic, so my hair has characteristics of a couple different continents worth of hair. She's amazing with my hair! The last time I went, I said "Surprise me with something a little different" with my color and I've never gotten more compliments on the color of my hair. I'm going tomorrow and I can't wait! She always remembers me, remembers what I like and don't like and always picks the most complimentary colors for me. Plus, she's fun to talk to! read more

2 visits over the past 5 months and 2 different stylists - both left me returning home to fix the cut. For my last cut, it was truly the most comical cut - when asked to even out one side as there was clearly more hair taken off the other, the "stylist" simply applied gel to flatten it out. As a guy, $30 is average to pay but I wouldn't have paid $10 for this cut. Actually, a $79.95 Flowbee would have been a better investment. After reading a few reviews I notice some rate this place a 3 yet claim they will not be going here again. If not, as in my case, give it a ONE it deserves. I recently had a superb experience at Bubbles in Pentagon City. I hadn't been to a salon in over a year after a terrible experience at another salon, so my hair was unruly, to say the least. Thankfully, I got the most awesome stylist EVER to fix my hair: Iye. Not only is Iye super skilled and professional, but she is super nice and was happy to provide super helpful hair care tips. She is also a perfectionist, which I LOVE, and takes as long as she needs (you don't see this very often) to ensure that the costumer is satisfied and gets exactly what they ask for. First, while she washed my hair, she gave me an intense/incredibly amazing scalp massage. She took her time and it was amazing. She washed it really well too (twice) and applied conditioner. She then asked me what I wanted and proceeded to very skillfully cut my hair exactly like I asked her to (not too short but removing everything that was wrong). After she took her time cutting my hair perfectly, she proceeded to blow dry my hair. She also took her time doing that and really polished the strands of hair, which is great because my blow dry lasted for four days, when it typically only lasts about one or two at most. She styled it beautifully and I felt like I million bucks when she was finished. She also applied different products while blow drying my hair to protect it from the heat and for volume and shine. AMAZING. It was a true work of art. Iye is an artist, not a stylist. I'm literally obsessed with my haircut right now. My last experience at a salon left me so traumatized that I was scared to ever let anyone cut my hair again, so I went a full year without going to a salon. Thankfully I have found someone (Iye) who I know I can fully trust and that will go to great lengths to make you feel like you're getting exactly what you're paying for, and even more. Zahra has been doing my hair the entire time and I'm so impressed with her ability to cut, color, highlight, and correct other stylists' terrible mistakes. I'm an extremely loyal client and recommend her if you're looking for someone who can help your style evolve. Zahra was awesome at recommending youthful, fun cuts in my late 20's. She helped me transition to a more professional look as I got promoted at work and my career took off. She gave me (and my mom) breathtaking hair for my wedding. As the first strands of grey started to come in (heart attack moment - I'm too young for this!!), she educated me on aging hair, all-over color, different highlight possibilities, and new products to use to keep my hair looking beautiful. Have been going to her for about 6 years and she never fails to hit the mark because she takes the time to listen to what I want and we discuss it all before she starts. I have strayed but always came back to her. Medium length with layers of my very thin hair is difficult because it can sometimes look thinned out at the ends - she expertly trims the proper contour to make it all look full and fall beautifully. I cannot recommend Shayla enough!! I went in on a Friday evening to get blonde highlights done - my first time, and with very little idea of what I actually wanted them to look like. Shayla was extremely helpful in walking me through the different options (low-lights, high-lights, etc), but when I told her I wasn't sure, she told me she would decide what looks best! She was extremely patient and thorough through the entire process, and took her time sectioning out little pieces of hair so it would look the most natural. She was totally calm and nice the entire time (even though the entire process was longer than 3 hours), and was just generally super sweet to chat with. Also, she took the time to tone my hair and get the best cut so it would all look super natural and well-done! I am extremely happy with the results, and would suggest that you use Shayla any time you need your hair done, but particularly if you're going in for a color!! read more

I went here on a whim because my hair was looking REALLY bad and was in desperate need of a cut/color. They fit me in on the same day I called and the receptionist was SO sweet both on the phone and in person. I was given water while I was there, which is always a nice touch. My stylist was Barry, who was awesome! He did an amazing job and suggested an ombre color for my hair, which I took a chance on and ended up LOVING the results. He was absolutely great, and if I weren't moving out of the area, I would go back to him for sure. Nat absolutely rocks! I had gotten a really bad haircut at another salon years ago and had avoided getting even a trim for a few years because I was so traumatized. On my first few visits to Nat, I got just trims. Even for trims, he took the time to explain exactly how much would come off, and made sure I was comfortable with everything before he started. As I got to know him better, he mentioned that if I ever wanted to change my style, he had a great one in mind for my hair type/face shape. Finally, after about 3 years of seeing him, I trusted him enough to let him give me a new style. We took about 4 inches off, and although I wanted the shorter cut, I thought I'd cry when I got the cut. But I didn't! It looked fantastic!! I was absolutely thrilled with the new style. One of my favorite things about Nat is that he always takes the time to make sure you're on the same page about what he's going to do. He's a great stylist and if he ever leaves Bubbles, I'll definitely follow him wherever he goes! read more

I called the salon and booked an appointment requesting a stylist who works with kinky AA hair. An appointment was scheduled for me at 2pm..However, there were so many delays with Metro I ended up being 20 mins late. So the original stylist assigned to do my hair was not available. The older lady at the front desk was very friendly and courteous. I was then referred to another stylist who was available at a later time. let me first start off by saying She was very friendly, offered a lot of great advice on hair care and did an excellent job of detangling my hair. She was also very attentive. However, I must be very honest, my purpose in coming to a salon is to get my hair and I only wanted to see someone who is experienced with kinky natural AA hair. she gave me a great cut from what I can see but I left the salon looking almost identical to how I arrived. The purpose of going to a salon is for hair maintenance but also because you want to look and feel beautiful and confident. My hair was poorly blow dried and flat ironed. I asked her if she can do my type of hair, she stated "yes" but the experience showed she doesn't. I basically flushed $95 down the toilet for a service that left me feeling ashamed and upset that I even wasted my time in there. My Date of Service was 2-28-15, which was yesterday. I had to call out of work just to find another stylist/salon to do my hair.....I would've been happy if she never attempted to "straighten" my hair with a blow dryer and flat iron because my hair DID NOT look like I went to a salon/ stylist. Even after my service was rendered the girl at the front desk didn't ask how my experience was and kept her head down as she checked me out. I will never go to this salon and since I live in Pentagon City, walking past this salon daily will be a constant reminder of how horrible my hair looks and how insecure I felt after my service. As a PROFESSIONAL stylist, she couldn't have felt proud of her work. Just a little advice, There is nothing wrong with saying you've never worked with my type of hair before...I could've tried another salon instead of wasting my time, money and now PTO to have my hair done AGAIN less than 24 hours later read more

First time going to Bubbles, and I had a really good experience. I had gotten my hair highlighted and cut last in June and it was mid-October, so I was in pretty desperate need of a haircut. I got Karinda just randomly, and I really lucked out. She took time during the consultation to figure out what I wanted, and she explained what she was going to do in advance. I ended up getting full foil highlights (blonde) and two inches trimmed, and it turned out really well. Karinda did a really thorough job of washing and blowdrying, I will definitely be back! The only reason I did not give five stars was the the salon itself wasn't that fancy and it was a little hectic, but in terms of my stylist I would give five stars. read more

Do NOT go here for color. I came in for a cheap correction after getting some seriously streaky highlights, and Bubbles was the only place with an appointment available on Sunday. The stylist completely BOTCHED my hair. I asked for a warm, dark blonde and ended up with terrible-looking orange. The stylist didn't seem to know what she was doing and asked other stylists for help often. I came back in for another correction, where the stylist gave me a glaze that still had a brassy, orange tint to it. That was when I'd decided I'd had enough. I moved on to another salon, where my new colorist is attempting to fix the damage. It's already taken two appointments and will take even more, costing me so much time and money. Save yourself the trauma and never come here for color. Learn from my mistake! read more

Went in for a haircut on the suggestion of a friend. I have thin, straight, blonde hair requiring no styling or coloring. Just needed a wash and trim. Was told it would run $45, and was immediately confused, as I was told $35 on the phone. Not off to a good start. The girl washed my hair, and my clothes were SOAKED. She kept spraying the water down my back. I was not amused. We went over to the chair and she began cutting. NONE of the tools were clean! I couldn't find a stylist using germicide in the entire room! The brush she used on my head still had someone else's hair in it!! Combs, clips, everything, seemed dirty! Once she was finished cutting, she told me she was going to use a product in my hair. I said no thanks because I don't normally use it, plus I was headed straight to the gym from getting my hair cut so it was pointless. She INSISTED and finally I just gave in. She dried and styled my hair and spent easily 15 minutes fixing pieces she somehow missed, inches longer than the rest of my hair, which made me nervous. As I said, super straight hair - no tricks - my hair normally takes 20 minutes start to finish to cut. Despite spending all that time adjusting and checking, I still had at least 5 pieces she missed that were at least 1 in longer than the rest of my hair that I had to cut myself and fix when I got home! Very disappointed. I almost wish I had not tipped cause it was a mess. Will NOT be returning. Should have known better than to go to a mall salon. read more

Conveniently located in the mall. They recently updated the salon.... looks great and is much more comfortable while waiting for your appointment. The hostess staff is courteous and efficient. I love that they call you the day before your appointment as a reminder...very helpful! Prices are not outrageous as they can be in some salons and I especially love that they do not hound you about buying products from them!!!! They have a great assortment of hair care products available if you are interested and are happy to answer any questions you may have about them but they don't push you to buy them. I went last night for a cut with Chris after not cutting my hair for several months. It was dry, weighed down, and downright awful. After talking for a few minutes about what I wanted, he got to work. He did a FANTASTIC job and I am in love with the cut. It's so light and bouncy! I will never go to another stylist again as long as I live in this area! I have had a bad cut with another stylist there, so make sure you get a good one-I can't recommend Chris enough! read more

I've been going to Virginia Tabo for over 10 years, both at Bubbles and when she was briefly at the Regis upstairs. Virginia has forgotten more about hair than most people will ever know. She really listens to what you want, and she's a perfectionist - she almost always checks her work after blow drying and makes sure lengths are even and both sides hang right with my hair's natural growth pattern. She gives good advice about what works best for each season (i.e. fewer choppy layers in summer to minimize DC frizz). She's versatile, and doesn't always do the same thing. Plus, her scalp massages when she's washing your hair (pro-tip: get the $10 deep condition and you'll get a longer one!) are straight up magic. I suspect it can be hard to make a living at an affordable hair salon, and she's putting her kid through college at GMU, so I hope you'll do everyone a solid and give her some business. Just don't come so often that I can't get an appointment! read more

Came by the other day in hurry, to get a simple hait cut. Person who cut my hair once before was not in, and Emily suppose to do the task. I had no time for washing, but she wanted to start cutting without even using a spray. Than she tried to detangle my hear without using a detangler. Than she cut it so bad, it looked worse than before. I am a low maintenance person, but this was below any criteria. And that costed 25 dollars. Their price with a wash is 35. I suppose I didn't pay enough to get any attention? I could get far better treatment in any Hair Cuttery for 15 dollars. read more

I had a horrible experience here. I was very specific that I just wanted a simple trim and next thing I knew the stylist hacked off a huge chunk of the front of my hair (I have very thick curly hair, so it gets super short if it is shorter than shoulder length). She then proceeded to cut one very short layer and left the rest of it about 10 inches longer. I was in tears and didn't want to pay to have it fixed again. It ended up costing me $50 and I have to wear my hair in a pony tail for the next few months. I recommend going somewhere slightly more expensive, but where someone will actually listen to your request. read more

I generally use this salon for a less expensive trim and upkeep between my more lengthy hair appointments. I must say that the most recent trip on Sunday, left me incredibly disappointed. It was the most painful haircut I've ever had....and the stylist acted as though I was an inconvenience the entire time.
