But now I can get boba that's right down the street, and where there's street parking galore! I usually opt for a milk tea with tapioca pearls, 75% sugar. I like sweet, but they are quite heavy with the sweetness so I like to tone it down just a tad. I'm a sucker for their brown sugar milk tea, but their Thai iced tea and taro flavors are good too. I was in recently and they had a strawberry banana flavor that sounded delicious but the call of the brown sugar milk tea was too strong. Next time perhaps! The tapioca pearls themselves are great. I've had some bad ones before, but never here. They are the perfect texture and they taste great. They're also usually a little warm which I love! So fresh. The cheese foam is good too if you're feeling adventurous. I follow them on instagram and they always have special festive drinks that lure me in as well, so there's always something new to try! I feel like every time I come here, the decor changes a little. What was once one of those grassy, photo op walls that you see in every trendy place is an interesting Pikachu-inspired mural. They also sell shirts, little trinkets, and stuffed animals as well. I've seen them do promotions with other companies that have also drawn me inside... such as when they were selling mochi cupcakes from a place in Boston (I did not like these) or mochi donuts (love these) before they opened Pinku next door.

The owner was so lovely and explained boba and how they make them - even offered to do a combination of drink flavors for us as first time boba drinkers. We ended up with a mango and strawberry slushee type drink on top and passion fruit boba on the bottom. It was incredible. We now understand the hype. In the meantime, the grilled cheese we initially stopped for was also amazing. Our one year old (and five year old) gobbled it down as quick as they could. I love this boba shop in particular because it's conveniently located on my way home, inside Pokemoto, a Hawaiian spot that serves raw fish (think deconstructed sushi in a bowl). If you're looking to grab lunch and a tasty drink, this setup is perfect for hitting two birds with one stone. The drink selection is well-rounded, ranging from fruity to milky and healthy to indulgent. The Matchacado uses real avocado and high-quality matcha, blended together to create a drink I could honestly have for the rest of my life. There's something about the sweetness of the condensed milk, the creaminess of the avocado and the chewiness of the tapioca pearls that makes each sip taste SO (underline, bold and italicize "so" for me please, Yelp) good. Better yet, it's consistently well-made and the young team members behind the counter clearly know what they're doing when it comes to this drink. My last visit to Loose Leaf was heartbreaking: they were out of avocados, but the young man behind the counter recommended the Purple Roots instead, which had a pleasantly earthy taro flavor. It reminded me of a classic taro milk tea, but blended and elevated the Loose Leaf way. Their Vietnamese drip coffee is also solid for anyone who wants a strong caffeine kick to the face. If I haven't spotlighted them enough already, shoutout to the young man and woman who handle both the boba and poke stations - you two absolutely rock and are always so friendly! My only wish (as I mentioned in my last review for Pokemoto) is for steady Wi-Fi. This would be a fantastic spot not only for lunch, but also to settle in and get some work done for an hour or two. They brew Bolt coffee (a local brewer and coffee shop) and make a truly exceptional cappuccino. Like, really really good third wave style espresso drinks that I've not found at other shops in Providence so far (two week visit). I was initially worried their iced strawberry matcha latte might be too sweet, but that was fortunately not at all the case! It was balanced and mild. Just be sure to stir it up! While the drink's presentation was pretty, the flavor was only average and did not justify the steep, overpriced cost--especially for an establishment located in a prominent college area. Color was on point but flavor was very milky and slightly tart. I don't say this often, but it needed sugar. Service was interesting. Drinks are served filled to the brim without lids. You retrieve the lids yourself in a separate counter area. This design flaw was highlighted when a nearby couple spilled their entire order onto the floor simply while walking over to get a cap. Rather than stepping in immediately to help clean up the mess and offer new drinks, the staff stood and stared at this couple for longer than they should have before offering assistance. Also, I would've liked a teddy bear too but didn't see it on the menu so I didn't order it. Between the high prices, lackluster service, and operational confusion, the overall experience does not warrant a return visit. Go get a sugarcane drink around the corner instead!

Inside is nicely decorated and has good aesthetic. Seatings are limited so I would not expect to find one unless you are lucky. I guess the name of the place is derived from cha which means tea in Chinese and Daruma who is a founder of zen Buddhism. They have a mascot who looks like Buddha holding a bubble tea. I ended up ordering black milk tea with boba and taiwanese popcorn chicken with seaweed and salt/pepper. Tea came out right away and was pretty good. Good tea flavor but maybe a bit too sweet. Boba is home made and its nice and chewy and no inconsistency. I would do 75% sugar and less ice next time for my liking. Taiwanese popcorn chicken was juicy and flavorful. We also got lucky with seating so we sat down to enjoy their food and drink. Service was good and no issues. Overall the place is pretty good. I think everything was good quality and definitely one of the better tea/fried chicken place around RI. My only guess is that I go towards the end of the day (5ish), potentially during a "rush", so I am going to try earlier in the day to see if there is a difference.
