Two meat combo - ribs, burnt ends, okra & coleslaw.
Aardvark A.

Small place in an unassuming strip center. The place was fairly empty at lunch time albeit two tables of diners and someone picking up takeout. I had the two meat combo, burnt ends and ribs with coleslaw and fried okra. The baby back ribs (2) were good with a proper bite and meat that cleanly came off the bone. There was a light smoke on the ribs but not a noticeable smoke ring. The burnt ends seemed over cooked and dry rather than sticky or slightly saucy. The flavor was good but they were chewy. The fried okra was over cooked. You couldn't spear them with the plastic fork provided. The coleslaw was okay with a slightly pink mayo-based dressing with a hint of horseradish. One thing I found off putting was the barbeque sauces on the table (mild, spicy & gold) were cold. I'm sure they were refrigerated overnight but I would have expected them to have been brought out soon enough so they would be at room temp by lunch. They seem to have raised their prices recently so the price of the two meat plate was increased by $1.50 each for the burnt ends and ribs. Brisket was an up charge of $0.50. Overall, this place was okay but I will check out other places in the area in the future.

Smoked turkey with potato salad and corn

Being from Texas and passing through Springfield, MO on the way back home we decided to give this little BBQ joint a try. We were very impressed with the brisket; a nice smoked flavor without being dry or tough. The smoked turkey was also on point this particular evening. I didn't care for the brisket burnt ends. They were fatty, more so than normal, and the bark really didn't offer much flavor. I know a good burnt end is hard to make, and I probably have high expectations, but these don't do it for me. As far as sides, they too were top notch. Some of the best fried okra I've had in a while; really looked like they were cutting and breading it fresh in the kitchen. Solid corn meal breading with the perfect amount of salt to bring out the earthy taste of the okra. Overall, I was impressed with this bbq joint. It provided enough "home" to carry me through the night and back to Texas the next day. It will be on the list of places to go back to next time we are passing through.

June 3, 2024 and we came for one last dinner (off to the airport in the morning). We split a 3 meat platter. The okra was obviously fresh and was enjoyed. The ribs had a tasty/mellow (no bite/not spicy) rub and fell off the bone. The sausage taste like a slightly smoked kielbasa (nothing special). The pulled pork had a fabulous flavor. The pit beans were wonderful, and my wife was thankful. Nobody saw her, licking the inside of the container. We did not try or use any any of the sauces/barbecue sauces. They serve Pepsi products and have a few bottled beers. The blackberry moonshine was very good. The staff was great and we enjoyed sharing a few laughs. There was also 2 TVs. The parking lot is huge and they have a drive up / drive-through window too.

Ribs, fried corn, potato salad, mac and cheese, Cole slaw. I added the sweet bbq to the ribs and just wow!!

This place is AMAZING! I didn't think anything could beat Nashville BBQ, but wow!! Everything was amazing! I had the ribs, cole slaw, mac and cheese and potato salad, the beans must be amazing bc they were sold out when I arrived, everything was unbelievable!!! The staff are the nicest ever as well, treated myself and my service dog the best ever. I had a big day of driving 11 hours today and needed a solid meal and this was the place to go! Thank you all for filling my and El Jefe's bellies! Enough leftovers for breakfast tomorrow! Yum!

Looking for somewhere to get in immediately and getva quick meal on a Friday night. Several places had 2 hiur wait which wasnt going to work. Cane here and got right in. Shared 3 meat meal with 2 sides ... turkey, burnt butt and pulled pork. Was going to give a 5 but got a mouth full of grissle. I liked they offered okra as a side, but it was way over cooked or cooked at too high heat. There were some bugs flying around, which was annoying

Burnt ends with potato salad and coke slaw.

I (don't) make it to this side of Spfd much. But If you're on the bypass...give this place a try....as they do pretty good with their bbq and sides. A good level is smoke and bark on the burnt ends. The beef had a good beef flavor and good moisture level to the meat. The meat had (just) a little bounce on the chew. BUT...let's remember, this is a brisket...and a very tough meat by definition. Sides...quite good....either one of the coke slaw or potato salad. By all means...stop in to this place...you'll enjoy it

Really friendly service (hence the second star), but otherwise I didn't enjoy my meal. The turkey was dry and bland, the beans were greasy (see photo), and the slaw was mostly mayo (well, they said it was mayo-free, but again - see photo; maybe it was cream?). The waitress was kind enough to swap out the slaw for corn, but this was also greasy. I'm surprised by the generally positive reviews. Maybe I came on an off day?

The appearance inside is awesome but when you look close enough, it's gross & dirty; the floors on the main floor & inside the restrooms are in dyer need of a good machine scrubbing. Our plates looked delish but the meat was cooler than room temperature and dry, the corn seemed like it had been sitting for a while and the mac-n-cheese was exactly that with the cheese being sprinkled on and not melted so needless to say we were very disappointed.

The only thing I can say here in INCONSISTENT! Sometimes the food is good. Sometimes the service is good.

My daughter and I were in the area visiting and read several positive reviews so we decided to give…read moreit a try. When we first pulled up the place looked like it might have been closed, but it wasn't. We were just there at an unpopular time of day. It was around 2:45pm so after lunch and too early for dinner, but we were hungry. When we walked in, we were promptly greeted by a very kind and informative gentleman. We told him we had never been there before and he informed us that because it's a bbq place, they sell out very early. It was also St Patrick's Day and he told us even those specials were all sold out. He proceeded to tell us what they had left and made recommendations for us based on what was available. We ended up ordering the smoked turkey, burnt ends, potato salad and the bbq beans. The sauces we tried were a mustard based bbq sauce and their traditional house bbq sauce. We took a seat at a table while we waited for our food. It's a seat yourself dining room. Our only complaint about the dining room was the lighting and temperature. It was too dark inside and the temperature was too cold, but it was also very cold outside. Our food was brought out pretty quickly and everything was worth the wait! The turkey was so moist and tender and the burnt ends were charred just right. The potato salad and beans were both large enough to share. The potato salad had an unusual flavor because it was made with pickles which we love so it was different but incredibly delicious at the same time. I was so glad we ordered it. The beans were just okay for me, but my daughter really liked them. Personally, I don't get too excited about beans when there's better options to try. I'd rather put those carbs and calories to better use. LOL The sauces were both good but the mustard one had a very strong mustard flavor so if mustard isn't your thing you're not going to like it. The house sauce is just the right mix or sweet and smoky. As I'm writing this review, I'm craving the potato salad so much and the turkey too. If I'm ever back in the area, I'm definitely stopping there again. Nice staff, great food, and good portions what more to ask for.

The beans were savory and had plenty of meat in them. The fella that was at the register was friendly and personable, making the entire experience a very good one. Would recommend the beef and turkey to everyone. Will definitely be back.

Fuel was $3.11 per gallon here, and just four miles down the road it jumps to $3.49 per gallon. That alone makes this place worth pulling into. At this interchange, Buc-ee's paid for roundabouts on both sides, which is highly efficient. It's a brilliant idea and enables smooth traffic flow everywhere. This Buc-ee's has been here for about three years according to Brisket Bill, and it already feels like a staple stop. I stood there watching them chop fresh brisket and almost went with the Big Buckin' Brisket Sandwich XXL... but it was just two buckin' much for me. This is a nine dollar sandwich and worth every penny! It is outstanding! I did hear employees mumbling something about brisket on something. Maybe they were just bored and wanted to chop brisket. Maybe that's what they were saying. Since they already have a brisket Bill here in Springfield, Missouri, maybe I can be Brisket Bill in Huber Heights, Ohio! what's a 90 minute commute anyways?
