My family and I often walk the Marina, we always pass by the Bubbaloo Cafe and say we will be visiting soon. Well, we finally did yesterday.. My husband and I ordered the Gio Special, food was fantastic and tons of it for about $9 a plate (we didn't eat all day after the fact we were so full). Although food was great, the customer service wasn't! The first lady that took our order wasn't very pleasant. No hello or a welcome, she looked annoyed as we were looking at the menu deciding what we were going to order (A recommendation would of been nice). Then there was another woman at the register (I forgot her name) Super nice, amazingly helpful. She let me sample some of their delicious Vietnamese Iced coffee and placed our order for some of their yummy lumpia, Just because of her I will most definitely be returning. read more

This place is awesome! I have tried 5 items thus far and they were all incredible. My favorite is the teriyaki chicken sandwich. Everything is fresh and has great flavors. The Vietnamese iced Coffee is out of this world. Be prepared to be awakened because that coffee has some serious caffeine. The place is great looking and the people who work there all rock. The owners Gio and Candice are super friendly. The place can be a little hard to find but follow the signs and you will be happy you took the time to find it. This cafe is a hidden gem just down the street from the Kaiser School of Allied Health Sciences. It's perfect for studying in the morning, with lots of tables and chairs and a quiet atmosphere. They have some really friendly employees who remember your name after just a few visits! Overall this is a good spot to stop in and relax for a while. read more

Ambiance is agreeable, well lit, friendly employees who work to keep it clean and tidy. Pricing is much better than nearby restaurants whose pricing can seem extreme... The portion size is generous. However, in my experience, the food is hit or miss depending on what is ordered. The lemongrass chicken has excellent flavor, but can be tough sometimes. I've 'never had an issue with the shaking beef. The loaded fries looked amazing when a friend ordered them (meat can be added) but when I ordered them a few days later, them the fries were cold and stale, cheese not melted, and it didn't look nearly as appealing as when a co-worker ordered them. The most consistent item I've ordered has been the cobb salad which is one of the better one's I've had anywhere. There aren't many restaurants around where I work and lucky enough we have This literally around the corner. Food has been good but portion size has not been consistent. Prices are reasonable. The ambiance however needs some work. They leave their door open even when it's freezing outside not making the dine-in experience a good one. Ladies working the register are not always the friendliest but it also could be the dark lipstick that throws me off. But I love the Hawaiian music they are always playing. Happened to visit my friends in Marin, I'm originally from LA so I really wanted to try a popular local restaurant by the water. Had such great service! Of course I needed my daily fix of coffee so I tried a Vietnamese iced coffee and it hiiiittttt the spott!!!!!! Bye bye Starbucks lol. I also tried a rice plate which consisted of marinated chicken teriyaki, rice, and cilantro dressing salad; my taste buds were tingling before I even had a bite. These folks are awesome! Bubbaloo Cafe does not disappoint. Whether it is breakfast or lunch, we are always satisfied. Their food is always fresh and tasty, their portions generous, their prices good, and the employees are courteous and friendly. These folks aim to please! We hold numerous work events at Chevron's Richmond Refinery throughout the year and Bubbaloo is our go-to establishment for our catering needs. Their varieties of breakfast burritos and sandwiches are very tasty and always a crowd pleaser for a fulfilling and simple meal. Couple those with a quality cup of freshly brewed coffee and we've started the day off right! Lunch is also a treat. Their lemon grass chicken, and teriyaki chicken are outstanding, and their chicken wings and drumettes are plump and juicy. They are always prompt and reliable regarding delivery and their presentation is excellent. Over twenty-five and counting absolutely positive dining experiences and I have NEVER been disappointed. Being all the way in Richmond I have not been out there for lunch since they first opened. But I did attend a wedding and reception there a few months ago. Naturally it was catered by them. It was FAR better than I expected it to be. The appetizers were these huge panko coated prawns. In knew I had to pop a few Claritin just in case, because I couldn't enough. I had the wild salmon with a some kind of sauce on top. It was cooked to perfection. I've been to too many catered events and restaurants that positively RUIN a pricey Salmon filet. Mine was perfect. I have ordered the Caesar salad with chicken many times and have had the food under cooked, with pink uncooked meet in it. I have also had ordered the Philly cheese steak and have got mystery meat that even the staff didn't know what it was. It was supposed to be beef and it looked like fish! The staff had no idea what it was! So I must recommend to not eat their food. They need a food/health inspector come in and see whats wrong with the place. It's very disappointing because the staff is usually nice and its so close to my job. Solid 3-plus star eatery. I've eaten here five times, so here's my update. Want a burger? (7.95 for their house basic--and worth it). Order it WITHOUT the chipotle sauce. Plenty of fries and a decent-sized burger. The crowds ebb and flow, but the clientele ranges from working-class trades persons to professional. Plenty of parking and the food is definitely worth it. Yelpers, come to Richmond for whatever your business might be, but when you're hungry do come here for a decent meal and a nice eclectic crowd of hungry folks. This place never disappoints me! Every time I near the area I have to stop by for a bite. I love LOVE their teriyaki chicken which comes with white rice and a side salad. The dressing is awesome as well, it is my go to plate. I have also tried their lumpia and those are super yummy! This place is a bit small and can get crazy busy especially during lunch time so I would call ahead if you can or it can be little wait but it is totally worth it. Food is very tasty and staff is nice. My complaint is that they don't answer their phones. I've had at least 2 $100 lunch orders I wanted to call in for staff for office meetings. I tried to call each time for an hour and no one ever picked up the phone, so they lost that $. On 2 other occasions I tried to call and they didn't pick up. Its hard to pick up lunch on a break if they cant take your order. Today they ran out of rice and it's only 1pm?? Good food but clearly not organized or managed well. read more

First I'll start with the cafe is a trippy place to find. thanks to gps i found it today cause last time i couldn't find it. Its located across from the bingo hall two parking lots before the waterview . Once i found it, parking was limited cause its alot of reserved spaces for the other business offices but i manged to find a spot. Walking up to the building it the windows were very dark, I thought it was closed but I noticed an open sign. The inside was very welcoming and staff were friendly. I was a little disappointed with the menu, not a lot of selections to choose from but i order the lumpia, next I will try the wings. The lumpia is 5.75 for 12., which is a good price however the lumpia were very small and not a lot of meat inside but overall the taste was fair. Well, I wanted to like it--- it's tucked away all by itself down on the Marina, and even though all the parking places are labeled "WCCCSD Parking Only," it seemed there were enough spaces that I wouldn't get a ticket. The cafe looks pleasant enough, until you get inside and are assaulted by a giant TV screen with some ghastly popeyed woman yammering away about the sex lives of celebrities, and smarmy 1980's pop music blaring. The prices were VERY reasonable, I assume because almost everything was "self-service." I didn't mind that. What I did mind was after ordering an omelet cooked soft, I was presented with a dried out piece of rubber, and when I returned it, I was told that "the cook says he cooked it soft," as if I was returning it in order to get on the cook's nerves. I asked again for the omelet to be redone, and as usual, in these places where the cook is right and the customer is not, I got a replacement omelet almost as dry as the original. It was also singularly tasteless, as were the dried out pieces of "country-style" potato lurking around the edges of the omelet. I just can't understand why there seems to be NO PLACE in Richmond to get a decent breakfast. read more

Great idea for a restaurant... smart strategy... something I thought about doing... great location with hardly any restaurants/deli around ... captured market ... i think their main goal is to serve the businesses and offices in the area. Hence, they are only open for breakfast and lunch... 6am to 4pm... closed after 4p ... but open late enough for those dinner orders, for those who don't feel like cooking dinner... and closed on weekends... less overhead expenses plus savings in payroll... And what's the point of keeping it open for dinner when the businesses around are closed... after all, it's a cafe. Nice selection of menu items... offers a variety of food, from Vietnamese to Filipino to Mexican to Japanese to burgers, salads and regular deli sandwiches. Food flavorful. Love the aioli! Big serving portion... prices reasonable except for the breakfast items (my opinion!). Restaurant is clean, very clean. Like the feel good decor and ambiance. Went there twice so far and the only not so great issue for me was the servers were not very friendly... should smile and be happy to serve ... a bit grumpy... perhaps we caught them on a busy day or perhaps we went for a late lunch and they were already tired.
