    Attic space pre-reno
    Cailen M.

Mike and his crew were really great to work with throughout the process of finishing our attic. Mike communicated consistently with us, and he and his guys were always prompt in their arrival and with completion of each step of the process. As with any big project in a 100+ year old home, there were some unexpected issues, but Mike worked with our architect to ensure prompt and effective solutions, while being mindful of cost. Our finished space is amazing and has been a life changer for our family. We would highly recommend BTB and would use them again without hesitation.

New shower enclosure, the tiling work on the shower walls is exquisite

I had an awesome experience working with Mike. He got his guys in as fast as the job permitted, handled all the permits seamlessly and quickly, addressed every little nitpick I had on details, and offered super valuable suggestions to improve the project. The beautiful glass shower doors were an innovation he and his glass subcontractor designed after I had assumed we wouldn't be able to have a door. He also willingly and quickly took on jobs I had in parts of my apartment that the original contract wasn't set up for. I'd really highly recommend him for any projects and would work with him again in a heartbeat.

We worked with Mike Judge and his team. They did an outstanding job and not only of the requested renovations but also on clean, organized, professional manner of work. They respected our house rules and were considerate about everything including COVID regulations. We couldn't recommend this company and specifically Mike and his team more.

    Before

I used Mike and his team for a full bathroom remodel. It came out beautiful. He's detail-oriented and set expectations through the whole project. He provided me (a newbie remodeler) with some recommendations so I would make the best decisions on quality products. Love my bathroom - Thanks Mike :)

Mike was very responsible, honest, and professional and his recommendations and insights were very valuable. He was clear and prompt with his communication and he made sure to meet my needs and requests. Mike and his team did an amazing job at executing our beautiful bathrooms and they are absolutely perfect! They exceeded my expectations and I'd 100% recommend BTB and Mike.

They say that with a renovation project you can have two out of three: speed, quality and value - but I can honestly say that with Mike Judge and his team, we had all three! We found Mike great to work with from the beginning - he was responsive, quick to develop a quote, and was able to start the project quickly. We were concerned that living in an older building would create challenges for the team but Mike and his team were able to handle whatever came at them. We worked with them on a project that included adding a bathroom, closet and laundry room to our condo in Beacon Hill, and as we went along we kept adding... painting our living room and dining room, new tile in the kitchen... and Mike and team always rolled with it, completing everything quickly and always promptly addressing any issues that arose. All of the subcontractors that he worked with were great as well. We hope to work with Mike again soon.

    After

Detail oriented, communicative, and quality. I hired BTB to renovate my kitchen and paint the exterior of my house built in 1895. Mike's attention to detail and the quality of his work is incredible. He brought my tired old house back to life. I would recommend and hire him again. I have worked with my share of terrible contractors. Mike makes the process easy and is always there to take your call and work through issues to be sure you are 100% satisfied.

We hired Powell to paint the exterior of our home and their carpentry services to replace several rotted window frames for a three story house. Andre stopped by to perform the initial exam and was very thorough and knowledgeable on the work that needed to be done. Unlike other painters I contacted, the Powell team was easy to contact and actually showed up on time for the scheduled time slot. Their quote for the project came in right around the same as other quotes we received, and it was well worth the cost. I can't praise the level of service you get with Powell. Stephanie, who handles scheduling and billing, was on top of communications so that I didn't have to worry about anything. Even the owner, Bryan, stopped by at the beginning to inspect a few leaks we had in our ceiling to help us determine whether there were other issues beyond repairing the rotted windows for us to consider. They will even bring out the drone for inspection if you have a tall home. As additional rotted windows were discovered during the power washing, work orders to add additional work was clear and simple. Once the work actually began, it went so smoothly. Andre stopped by every morning and afternoon to check in and update us. Our crew, Thiago and Breno, were incredibly hard workers. They were at our home by 7:30 am every morning despite the terrible traffic and often worked past 7 pm even during a heat wave. The guys were experts on the ladders despite having a few high, tricky spots to get to. The worksite was clean after each day which I was grateful for as we have a toddler running around. The entire project took 10 days. While it moved fast, it didn't feel rushed and no corners were cut to finish quickly. They even paused the project for 2 days because of rain so that we didn't run the risk of streaky paint. After the work was completed, they insisted on us contacting them if we weren't satisfied with any part of the project. Our home looks completely transformed and brand new. I cannot recommend Powell Painting enough for a stress free and professionally done project.

Working with Powell has been one of the best experiences I have had as a new homeowner…read more I reached out to Powell to see if they would be willing to paint the basement room in the townhouse that serves as my movie room\home office. The color that the prior owners picked while nice was a bit too dark for such a small room. They responded to my inquiry the same day and arranged a date and time to stop by and look at the room. Bryan and Andre arrived exactly on time and took a look at the room. Super friendly, patient, and willing to address any questions and concerns. As part of the renovation of the room, I was planning on replacing the carpet and asked him if I should do it before painting the room or after. He strongly suggested to replace the carpet first since the installers tend to scuff the baseboards terribly as they are ripping the old carpet out. I followed his advice and did the carpet first and sure enough the baseboards were in such bad shape after that had I painted I would have had to repaint them. I'm so thankful for that. On the day of the job, Bryan and Andre introduced me to Freddie who would be painting the room for me. Super friendly, professional, and honest. After grabbing the paint, he laid down tarp to cover the brand new carpet and got to work on the walls. It's amazing how quickly he was able to paint this room. It felt as if every move was calculated. What's more impressive is that he conversed with me the entire time! During the end of day 1, Freddie called me over and informed me that the two coats of paint that the quoted me for the job would not be sufficient for cover the walls and they will need to grab another can of paint. I asked him how much extra would I need to pay on top of the quote and said nothing. They told me it would take two coats, it didn't, so it was on them to make it right. Freddie told me he already informed Bryan and he would stop by the paint store tomorrow to grab another can of paint on their dime. I wasn't expecting that at all but greatly appreciated it. In the early afternoon of the second day the room was done. I thanked Freddie and waited for the paint to dry before heading down to plan out moving furniture back in. It was then that I noticed that there were some areas in the room that we not completely covered. I reached out to Stephanie and she called back soon after and told me that Freddie would be stopping by again later the SAME day to take a look. True to their word, Freddie stopped by and took a look at the walls now that they were dry and he confirmed the coverage issues. He grabbed paint and did another pass on the walls which removed the old color. After Freddie departed I started to notice that that wall color is much much warmer that I expected. I tried various color temps on the lights to no effect. I took a look at the sample patch in the other room and confirmed that it looked very different and that maybe I might have made an expensive mistake with the paint choice for this room. On a whim I took a few pics and emailed Stephanie with my concerns. I figured at this point they'll I'm crazy and I didn't expect to hear back. After all, I chose the paint color, they painted the room perfectly, their task is done. An hour after I send the email I get a call, it was Bryan. He looked at the photos, and saw the same thing that I have seen, and he and Stephanie have been trying to figure out the root cause. It turned out that there was some miscommunication and an incorrect shade of white was used on the doors and trim causing white walls to become warmer than they should. He apologized and asked to send a couple of painters the following day with the correct paint to address. I already felt bad about Freddie having to come back so I told Bryan not to rush but he insisted. He knew I took the week off to clear out the room to get it painted, and he wanted to get the job done so I have the weekend to put everything back together so I can work on Monday. 7am the following morning Andre and another painter arrived with the correct paint and took a little over an hour to repaint the doors and trim. As soon as I stepped into the room the walls immediately cooled down. And the state of the brand-new carpet after they were done? Spotless. I love the room now. Snow like color make the room feel bigger and more comfortable. It's easily my favorite place in the house. If you're looking for painting service for your home and are within the service area don't bother looking anywhere else. It's not just the quality of their work (which is outstanding), it's their level of accountability. They will do everything to ensure that the job is done and that you are happy. They came back to my home at two separate occasions to complete one room and I didn't pay a penny more than what was initially quoted to me. I cannot recommend Powell enough and can't wait until I can get them to paint other areas of the home.

They were supposed to build a new rubber roof. It started leaking on 3 separate occasions (which btw was never fully fixed -- we moved on to different contractors who did address the issues). And like I said, it would take months for them to actually come back and attempt to fix anything. Often they'd come by, look at the damage, then I wouldn't hear from them for multiple weeks. Meanwhile, more damage continues to accrue to the walls and ceilings. The internal fixes they applied for the water damage were just patch jobs. They just plastered and painted over. Meanwhile, the insulation behind the wall was soaked and accrued black mold that we had to address later. Also worth pointing out a major blunder at the beginning of the project (see attached videos and pics). They opened up the roof, and left it open for multiple days without doing any work. Well of course a major rainstorm came by (which was on the weather forecast well in advance). Alll that water poured into the house in the middle of the night setting off fire alarms. It was a nightmare to deal with on my end.

Two workers came to do the installation. Although they both worked hard at the task, neither had done such a job before, restarting the job twice and calling a local awning company for advice. Due to their inexperience and a rising wind, the workers had to leave with the work undone. The second day one of the workers returned and finished the task. Building a custom vanity was a little more expensive, but we got so much more for what we paid. I selected Mike in part because when he came to look at the configuration of my existing vanity and plumbing, he had a clearer vision that he articulated for how he could build and install the vanity, and what the options were given the positioning of the plumbing. The other contractors I had come and look didn't mention the relationship between the dimensions of the drawers and open space and the existing plumbing in the wall. We also asked Mike if it would be possible to build a pull out step under the vanity that our 1.5 year old daughter could use to step up and use the sink (probably when she gets to be 2 years old or so). He explained his vision for that and it was perfect. Mike also built the style of the doors and drawers to match a style we had seen, and as you'll see in the pictures, it looks amazing. Mike was super easy to work with, very responsive, and provided a documented design spec that he sent to me for approval (which we made a few tweaks to). He delivered the piece on time and was flexible with his schedule in matching to mine to install it. He expected half of the price of the piece as a down payment, very reasonable, and received the rest upon delivery and installation. I ordered the vanity top custom from home depot and I selected the handles I wanted Mike to install. He used the top to ensure that the piece he built would conform to fit. I also ordered the tread for the step after brainstorming ideas with Mike. I personally removed the old vanity and disconnected the old plumbing, but that could be done by a plumber as well. Mike installed the new vanity against the wall, and I had my plumber connect the plumbing to the new faucet we bought after Mike had left. Overall, I can't recommend Mike highly enough. He is professional, creative, responsible, and I can tell he takes pride in his work. Thank you Mike, we are already enjoying the transformation to our bathroom that you helped make possible!
