BRYAC is a wonderful spot in Black Rock section of Bridgeport. The atmosphere is warm, the food is consistently good , dine inside or outside and the music later is always great! Service is with a smile. Sometimes there is a little wait because most dishes are made fresh. BRYAC has excellent lobster rolls, fresh shucked oysters and clams and shellfish served different ways. If you like steak, beef or chicken you will always find something to your liking. The prices vary which is not unusual with fresh seafood. The ambiance is great and welcoming to people of all ages. Whatever reason, I thought I did a review on this place years ago, as I've been coming here for years, and I always have given it 4 1/2 five star rating because the food was fantastic and they had by far the best clam chowder ever. It was a type of place that I would say don't judge a book by its cover, it was a sneaky good place with incredible and creative seafood options. The lobster pot pie was delicious, the lobster quesadilla out of this world, the steak tips, very tender, oyster, Rockefeller, sinfully addictive... a lot of great offerings. Came back after a long time of not being here back in the fall and had a wonderful experience with my girlfriends. Came back today, and it was absolutely catastrophic! I don't know if it's under new management, but the whole place was chaotic, the service was awful, and the food was terrible... The clam chowder wasn't clammy in flavor like it used to be, it it was heavily laden with bacon bits, which, if you're a bacon fan is all the way for you, but I'm getting clam chowder, not bacon chowder. I ordered the mac & cheese lobster which was described as a creamy mac & cheese with lobster and truffle oil... There was not one single sign of truffle oil on this dish at all. It actually did have generous amounts of lobster, but it was far from creamy and the pasta itself was dry. My other half had the fried clams, they rate as some of the worst clams we have ever tried, and the portion was extremely skimpy, and the clam composition was mostly that grizzle! ( the attached photo is the dish as it was delivered to us... It had not yet been touched. )The fries were ice cold, and to boot what made it worse, no signs of life from our server...hello, hello...I felt like Adele! The gentleman who took our order was busy going outside, taking care of the tables outside went by us countless times and didn't even pay mind to us-you've thought we were invisible! The other waitresses that walked by, couldn't even understand body language, maybe they did, but didn't care because it wasn't their table, but we sat there for 40 minutes and no one ever came to check on us. Never had this issue with this place before, which makes me think that it's really under new management, given how the food was, and the lack of care of the personnel. I doubt I will be coming back here again given the experience, and I never do this, but for the first time ever I didn't leave a tip because they were not deserving of a tip. We finished our sodas, we were thirsty, and we were never offered anything more to drink. Why - because again no one came to check on us. When I finally called one of the waitresses over, she came and asked if I want to wrap up the food and I told her I needed a container and I pointed to my husband's food and I told her that the clams were god awful and why they were bad and unfortunately, we were neglected by our server and all other staff for that matter. She told me she would take the clams off the bill and she would come back with a container for my dry lobster mac & cheese. Five minutes goes by no sign of the waitress 10 minutes goes by no sign of the waitress or my container, finally I call the person who looked like she was manning the floor and checked on all other tables and how they were doing except for OURS Was there something wrong with us? We weren't dressed like bums, we sat in the corner, we didn't have extra sets of eyes, we didn't have an extra arm attached to our body, we were just regular, typical people, but she ignored us. Bill came out to $33.50 for bacon chowder, dried lobster mac & cheese, and two Ginger ales... Never again! Honestly, the way we were treated was shameful, hopefully they learn from this lesson and they do better... No one deserves this, especially with the cost of food these days. It took us 50 minutes to get here, and we made it a trip because we've had great experiences in the past, but seeing that all three dishes were disappointing makes me believe that this is not the same place that it used to be. read more

We were in town looking for a quick bite and came across this place . The food was good and it came out pretty quick , however service needs some serious training. The lady at the bar wasn't very friendly :( it was like she was rushing us to order ( we never been there ) so needed some time to look over the menu and figure out drinks as well . Have been going there for years. The last 2 visits have been awful. Poor service and problems with kitchen equipment. Place was filled with smoke and no cooked food from menu because hood was broken. The food was very good honestly, went during happy hour and got a dozen oysters, good stuff. I also got the chicken caprese sandwich which was fireee. I can't wait to come back again. It wasn't super crowded, we ate on the patio which was nice. We were the only ones on the patio and randomly our server came up to us 40 times towards the end of the meal, definitely gave us the vibes he wanted us to leave but they weren't at all near closing time. Great find - just what we were looking for. It was my mother's 94th birthday, she wanted seafood and we were looking for a place closer to where she lives and came across BRYAC. It was a pleasant surprise to see such a variety of seafood at a reasonable price point. Very mixed feelings about this place. It had really great reviews, and some of the reviews are justified. One thing I wish I read more is about the lack of a waitlist. It's not first come first serve. It's whoever gets a table gets served. I've never experienced a restaurant where customers had to wait behind tables or seats after other customers. It's like I'm competing for a particular seat with every other particular customer and it all depends on how quickly the people before me eat. If another table opens up, it may not be mine because I wasn't waiting for that table. I feel like it would be relatively easy to set up even an self check-in system to create a waitlist and ease the mind of a lot of customers. Either way, food was good, but this place is understaffed. I was waiting for a table for 45 minutes, and I talked with people waiting on their checks for 30 min or their food for even longer (if it's not raw). Affordable oysters, huge clams and good toasted food too, but again, it sounds like there are only 1 or 2 people in the kitchen because the raw and cooked food came close to 45 min apart. There's either 1 or 0 bartender at the bar, so getting drinks is also very challenging. I feel for a restaurant that's understaffed, but this dining experience could have been much better. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally got there today. The menu was filled with choices I wanted so I guess that means I will have to go back! I absolutely loved their award winning New England clam chowder. It was creamy and chock full of fresh clams. Another crowd favorite was the unique choice- fried avocado. I didn't expect it to be as fantastic as it was. I was intrigued by the Lobster Pasta dish- although I wish I would have ordered something lighter since I was already full with the apps, it was amazing. Thankfully I took half home. It had tons of lobster in a sherry cream sauce with rotini. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak. Strange choice in my opinion (for a seafood spot) but he liked it. Went today around 3:00 waiting for 2 friends. Sat at table in DR . The bar was quiet. Since no one waited on me I walked to the bar and ordered a cold Bud Light. My two friends came and she didn't come to our table to take any orders for at least 15 minutes. We did eventually order a couple things which never came so I walked up to the bar and she said she had forgotten. What time of service is that? The orders got screwed up with an order of oysters on the half shell, etc. I had already gotten some after walking over to the bar and then she brought another one which I hadn't ordered. More help came in at maybe 4 o'clock or 430 and things improved. Very unsatisfactory service. The oysters were yummy and my lobster roll had morsels of lobster and was very minimal. Been looking for a good happy hour since most have disappeared because of COVID. $1 oysters and $0.75 clams from 3-6pm. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the ambiance. There were about 25 people in the restaurant, retired ladies in the front window enjoying martinis, two men that just finished work at their landscaping company enjoying their meal, young professionals enjoying happy hour at the bar, and other folks eating in the dining room. We loved that there were so many different people. We watched as their orders came out. The burger and steak looked good, but next time I will get the beef tips! I came here for their $1 happy hour oysters because I was craving them!! I was not disappointed with them either. Tasted delicious and fresh. Although the margarita that I ordered was weird. It had no tequila flavor and tasted as if it was just some simple syrup with no alcohol maybe they used a little rum or vodka but couldn't tell. I definitely would have tasted tequila if there were any in it. I would come back for oysters and maybe something on draft or can but not sure if I would order another mixed drink. This place is one of the few happy hour oyster spots with dollar oysters left in the area. The oysters were great, and the service was good. The only issue I had was with the margarita I ordered. Both me and my friend ordered margaritas and both did not taste good. They were too sweet, and you couldn't taste the tequila at all. But the service on the other hand gets worse and worse everytime. Im young and have a lot of patience this last time went with a group of friends we were drinking didnt mind waiting.
