People here are terrific. My teen made 3 paintings this summer and my other child made one and grandma made one for her birthday. Lovely people, so nice.. and the projects are beautiful and amazing! Our Jr Girl Scout troop went this evening. I am NOT an artist (honestly, normally draw stick figures.) I thought I'd set a good example and give it a try. The girls, and I, went home with a piece of art, on a 16X20 canvas, that we can be proud to hang. The owners were amazingly hospitable and flexible. It was organized and fun. While they received art instruction, they were also made to feel that they could be a bit creative. They intent to be part of the "Tustin community," which is so important in the downtown businesses. They'll offer date night, GNO, private groups, public sessions, etc. I'd recommend them highly, and we will go again (might even do a date night...). They're next to Rutabagorz. read more

Great kids Birthday Party. Parents can drop off or stay. We attended a 8yr old party there starting at 1PM. Start with hanging out, greeting and preparation. Birthday kid gets to pick the painting that instructor will lead the class. Kids can choose different painting but will not get details instruction as the rest of the class. They painted background (~1hr) and break for food or snack (whatever host provide). Then they went back to paint the subject (~1hr) and break for cake. After cake, all kids gathered around with their painting and took a group photo. Great experience. read more

This place is awesome! There are so many beautiful paintings you can create with beautiful colors!!! Everything is great quality and organized! bring a little money to buy some nice little jewelry they have too, with some other goodies! I took my 11 year-old granddaughter for her birthday and we both had a great time. She wanted to go back, so I decided to get her a gift certificate for Christmas. On the website, there is a place to buy gift certificates so I bought two. Once I bought it, I got an email confirmation but nothing like a gift certificate. I called and was told they could mail or email me one. When I didn't hear back, I called twice, left messages and emailed. No reply. Makes me a little nervous about buying a gift certificate but hopefully they will honor the email. It would have been nice to get a reply. read more

Ok the BEST time ever. I went once in the evening with girlfriends and back again in the afternoon during an open session with my 3 kids. Both were great bonding times with an amazing painting to boot! Claude was our instructor both times. He is so awesome. He will really pull a Picasso out of you that you didn't even know existed. This was my second time there and it was still so amazing! Brushstrokes really should advertise more as they are a perfect place for birthday parties/celebrations. We took my mom here for her first time for her birthday, and we all had a blast painting during an "Open Session", which allows participants to choose a painting from the studio that they want to learn. The instructors are caring and humorous, and we felt like family sitting in their studio. The atmosphere was non-judgmental and laid-back. It was especially nice because my husband, mom, and I all paint at different speeds and at different skill levels, and we were all perfectly accommodated. Doing the group sessions where everyone paints the same painting is fun too, but I liked Open Session more than group session because last time I did it I compared my painting to everyone else's. We all did different paintings today so I couldn't really put myself down/compare to others. :) You bring your own snacks, and paint while listening to upbeat music. The staff are attentive and will constantly replace your paint, water, and give you anything else you need. Also, there were kids present in the studio today, and we noticed the staff being really patient and helpful with them, too. As soon as we walked out to the car, my mom commented that she hopes we take her there again soon. :) :) read more

I had my 30th birthday party here and we all had a great time! They have a party room and you can bring all your food, booze, and cake, so it was a very personal feel. I also loved that my friends didn't have to buy their drinks. Claude and his wife, Betty, were the nicest and most accommodating people ever. They basically told me to make the night my own. Our artist was Jen, and she was super fun and talented. The only other wine and paint place I've been to is Pinot's Pallete, so that's all I have to compare it to. I will say that this place is not as sophisticated in the sense that the sound system and playlists aren't nearly as updated. Also, at Pinot's they tend to give much more specific directions on how to paint, whereas at Brushstokes they are intentionally much more vague, to encourage creativity, resulting in not quite as good results in the paintings for the more analytical types of people. However, Pinot's definitely doesn't give the personal touch and accommodation that Brushstrokes did, so I was more than happy! (Just wanted to share those points in case it's something important to you). My one criticism about the night is that it felt rushed. I know for the price they charged and what they gave us, they can't really give us forever (we got 6:30-9:30, started painting at 7 and stretched it till about 10), but it was the only thing that somewhat stressed me out, given my friends were wanting to take their time. I am all about small businesses! I was really hoping to find a mom and pop place and this was it! Oh, and there's lots of fun places to go around after. We chose to go to a karaoke lounge :) If you are looking to host a private event with a great personal touch, I highly recommend you use Brushstrokes! read more

On Mothers Day weekend we had the best night ever with a group of mothers and daughters! The owner Claude and his wife were amazing! They made the night so much fun with the music and most of all Claude's great personality! He was engaging and encouraging! It really is amazing how they can teach you how to paint something in just a couple of hours. Everyone's paintings came out amazing and we will cherish them and remember that night we spent together! We booked a private session for my Mom's birthday. We had such a great time. Claude is more than helpful, kind, flexible and fun. We had my nieces (8 and 11) and my sisters in law who neither have painted, my mom and I. We had so much fun painting together. We laughed and chatted and enjoyed our adult beverages. With a break in the middle we ate our "picnic" and talked more. Then finished our paintings. Claude made everyone feel very comfortable with our varying abilities. The music was awesome. He asked us what genre's we preferred. This was a night we'll never forget and I HIGHLY recommend this experience for a very fun night- no matter the level of artist you are or are not. Had a GREAT time at Brushstrokes last night! There were 8 of us, we all work together and thought it would be a fun thing to do as an afterwork outing. It was awesome!!!! None of us have ever painted before so we were all a little aprehensive and equally excited. It seems impossible at first but by the time we were all done we were all amazed at how great our paintings looked! We all did the same painting but each was came out with it's own style. The cool thing is you get to keep your canvas, I'm hoping we can all hang them up at work like a complete collection. We will be back again for sure. Anyone and everyone can do this! This is a great place to have a BDay party and we did. Claude is wonderful. He helped every kid have a great painting to take home. And these were 5-9yr olds. So patience is key. And there is a nice back room for adults to hang out and have a party. Prices are very reasonable.
