Every time we come to the Escape Game and try a new room, we are blown away by the tech they use. It's not-your-average mom & pop escape room, and for that reason we LOVE it. It operates with a first-come reservation basis, but each room has a max of 8-12 players. This means that you can bring your whole group in, and there's a chance you might have some strangers joining you as well if there's still space. We tend to wait last minute and book the rooms with no reservations yet so we can try to do them on our own. This time, our game keepers Ally and Marcy were so sweet and helpful. Can't recommend her enough! We will keep coming back!

These are public escape room games meaning you and anyone out there can sign up for the SAME room for the SAME time/date. Most rooms here fit up to 8 people which would be perfect if you had a large friend group. BUT if you only had 2-4 people and sign up ahead of time, be prepared to enter the room with new faces. Games start pretty on time, so make sure to be there with waivers signed! Also, they occasionally offer 20% off your next game once you escape the first! These games lean more on the tech side utilizing digital screens, electronic doors/buttons, lights, and puzzles - all of which I love! It adds more flavor to the game, while still providing the traditional puzzles feel with some rooms having locks, ropes, and mind-tingling puzzles. I would venture to say I like having more physical handheld clues like papers or props for decoding, but this place does get the job done. Some of the puzzles even require you to work simultaneously with your escape room team which creates more thrill! I have had friends that have gone here to the same rooms I have done where the rooms are slightly changed depending on the amount of people in the room or if the tech is broken - so just be aware that your experience could be different than others. For the price of about $42 a person you can't go wrong since there are multiple options that vary in difficulty from 3/10 to 9/10. Overall would recommend especially for a quick fun nigh

There were 3 of us and I would say that's the perfect amount! Kyle was our host and let us go as far as we could until he could see us struggling and gave us only a nudge. I did my homework, downloaded the Morty app, combed through reviews there and here on Yelp, and this one stood out as the best option for just two people. I didn't want to risk a "meh" room or get paired up with random strangers. Without giving anything away: - Wear comfy clothes you don't mind crawling around in - If you need reading glasses, definitely bring them, it can be a little dim in places - I don't think I'd do this room with more than 3 people, I feel like 2 is perfect We barely made it out... with 10 seconds to spare! The adrenaline rush at the end was amazing, and it completely hooked us. Now we're already talking about which escape room to tackle next. If you're looking for a solid two-player room, this one hits the mark.

Their main lobby has lockers to store any belongings you don't want to carry around for the following hour. They have two rooms here and we decided to do the "Irvine School of Wizardry and the Dragon Wand" room. The entrance for this room is at the back of the building. After checking in, you will go back out the front door, and your game master will lead you outside and around to a door at the back of the building. The initial room is unique with its very high ceiling which gives it a very spacious feel. It makes great use of every square inch of space with great themed décor and interaction. While it has some traditional puzzles, a good part of the flow is pretty different than your average escape room. You discover, put together, and figure out what spells to cast when and where. You even get to mix up some real potions. Our game master Habby was friendly and very helpful as we needed quite a few nudges. I think we went a little over an hour, but we were close, so he graciously gave us a little extra time to finish up and escape. Anybody who is into the wizardry theme will absolutely love this room. For a small group of two, their rooms are expensive at $60 per person. But the price drops to $40 per person for three or more. As spacious as the first room is, I think the remainder would become crowded with any more than four people. We had a real fun time doing this room. Their other "Irvine School of Wizardry and the Goblin's Secrets" room has a little higher difficulty level, so we'll bring a few friends along when we return to try that one. If you are tired of the run of the mill escape rooms with mostly just locks, this room at Hidden Donkey definitely is a breath of fresh air and worth a try.

At first I was hesitant with going in only a group of 4, as usually 6ppl is a good amount, but things worked out well. Everyone got their share of solving puzzles and contributing to the plot. Unique things here I'ven't seen at other escape rooms: + An eerie projector display triggered as part of the ominous plot. + The murderer turning out to be someone familiar! (no spoilers) Other likes: + Red herrings were minimal. I don't like red herrings in an escape room. + Good amount of parking. Quiet, safe, peaceful ambience. + Conveniently located near the 405. + The staff were nice and helpful and good at immersing us in the plot. - Weird, after the experience, they email+text us saying they have our photos, but we click the link, there's no photos. - Gripe: Wish I got a chance to put my Braille or Morse skills to use haha

The workers there were very nice and got us started as soon as possible. For the room: We did the Devil's Manor, the first one in a trilogy. For a difficulty 7/10 we found the room to be a little too easy. Clues were very linear and there were a lot of moments where we were all working on one puzzle to get to the next clue/room. Not much for a big group of people to do. The perfect amount of people for this room is probably 2. I will say this would be a great entry level room. They do offer 50% if you want to do a second room same day. Ps. They have three different offices in that plaza so make sure to come a little early to find the right one!
