A few of my coworkers and I decided to try Brushstrokes out after being highly recommended it by another coworker. We will definitely be back. When I first viewed the website, I was unsure if we were able to come in the evening, because the calendar mainly had open sessions from 11:30am-2:30pm. However, Claude was more than accommodating on the phone and set us up for an evening session with our preferred painting. The space is very homey and inviting. The painting/instruction/magic happens in the front of the studio. In the back is a nice lounge area with a buffet table for food and drinks. Next time we will be sure to bring water with our wine, haha :) I felt like time flew by so quickly, because we all were having so much fun. Claude was extremely kind and encouraging. I loved that each of us had our own interpretation of the painting, though we used the same paint and followed the same instruction from Claude. Overall, amazing experience! For an early Christmas present, my good friend decided to bring me to Brushstrokes. I personally have never heard of this establishment but was really curious to try something that I've never tried before. As we walked in we were greeted by Claude. The place is so bright and beautiful with walls decorated with art that I got so distracted. I honestly totally forgot why I was there in the first place. my friend and I chose a painting to draw. The canvas, brushes, and acrylic paints were provided. It's so easy to lose track of time when you're into your painting. The owners are awesome since they obviously love what they're doing. There's nothing better than walking into a place where people love their business and this family owned establishment obviously do, it's really palpable in the vibe of their space. Celebrated my bridal shower here and it was perfect!!!! You can rent out the entire place so you don't have to paint with strangers. They have a back room where you can have food and drinks during the break you take in the middle of painting. Alcohol is allowed! My sisters were able to arrive early to set up and decorate. Then you get to choose (ahead of time) what you want to paint. Some paint places make you paint a specific canvas. The teacher was very helpful and took her time with those of us who aren't as artistically inclined. This was a fantastic family event! We had our three boys (11, 10, 9) and daughter (4) along with my Dad participate. Our kids are seriously active all the time and they all sat focused for over 2 hours!! The owner Claude made it really fun and easy. He was great with the kids - very patient and encouraging! Our kids are now at home looking for where they get to hang their paintings. They are very proud. None of our boys were excited to go but now they are ALL very excited to go back! I highly recommend having your paint and wine event at this studio. Claude is amazing!!! He is great at returning phone calls and wonderful at helping you coordinate your event. My friend and I celebrated our birthday here with 19 of our girlfriends, it was such a fun experience! Claude and his wife Betty helped us unload our car and helped with our set up. They were very accommodating and helpful with our painting session. He really went above and beyond! I loved how he even selected my favorite music to play at my event. My girlfriends got there at 1:30pm, we a did meet and greet then started the first part of our painting session. After an hour or so we took a break and snacked on some appetizers and refilled our wine glasses. We continued our painting session and finished an hour later. We then had cake and more wine. What an amazing place! I love everything about Old Town Tustin. Some day I hope to live there. Claude and Betty are wonderful. They are encouraging, upbeat and utterly a joy to be around. I took my mom here on the Monday holiday so we can do something fun for post-Valentine's day. There happened to be a lot of kids around and Claude told us that and seemed worried we'd be bothered by it but honestly, it didn't bother us at all. I mean, they had to tend to the kids more but this was an open paint session so it really fit my expectations! It was fun! It was a casual and lovely. I am not an artist. Next to my mom, I'm definitely not an artist. But, I didn't feel bad but had a marvelous time with my mom. I loved the step by step instruction. I loved that they didn't get cross when I went ahead and tried to paint the next thing on my own. (My mom waited for the next step.) It was a time to be with my mom and do something awesome. Honestly, Claude and Betty did it. Put us in another place without their light, it wouldn't be as enjoyable. We are definitely going back! A plus! You can bring your own food and drink. Brushstrokes in Tustin is the best place to have a birthday, anniversary, team-building event, or any occasion for anyone who's looking for a unique and fantastic time. Emma and her Mom are great and friendly hostesses that can help you tailor the event just for you. Matt gave good instructions on how to paint for the many novices in the group -- even five year olds. It was a very relaxing, instructive, and memorable social event. There is a separate room for storing and setting up appetizers and other food. We used Rutabegorz next door to cater the event -- appetizers before and then sandwiches and salads at a mid-session break. We even had coffee and dessert served for the group at Rutabegorz afterwards. That worked out perfectly and saved us a lot of hassle and stress. And every person that paints gets to take home and display their personal painting artwork memento of the occasion. It was just wonderful. Jenn was our instructor and oh my gosh she was so sweet, super nice to everyone and very understanding that it was our first time. I booked a private party for my birthday and the reasons why I chose this place was many reasons but I'll list a few, kids are allowed, it's bring your own everything, they were super flexible with how my guests will pay, and overall just very humble and friendly, I'm all for small businesses like this! Basically they have a pre-selected painting for every class (make sure you check the website to see if it's a painting that you'd like) and then the painter in charge runs it like a very casual class where she goes over how to create the painting, step by step. We had Camille and she was great. She was really clear about being creative and that she was just giving guidelines, but that it was open to interpretation and there is no right or wrong. Also, Claude and his wife were SUPER nice and friendly and helpful and encouraging - they made it an experience. Great ambiance - they played fun music and gave us coffee and water. We held our daughter's birthday party at Brushstrokes in quaint Old Town Tustin recently and it was a wonderful experience. She and her friends painted some peacocks, which turned out great. My son came along and noticing that that he was a little older and probably not interested in painting a peacock, they set him up to do a different painting, which he really appreciated. Claude directed the girls and made sure they were all keeping up and having a good time. He was a great host. We brought some beverages, pizza and cupcakes to round out the event. At the end, we helped throw away the trash and walked out with a) beautiful paintings to remember the event by and b) NO MESS in our house to clean up! How can you beat that? Organized a bridal shower here for a group of 11 girls and the event couldn't have been more fabulous. I initially sent an email from the website and then was contacted by Claude who was friendly, informative and super enthusiastic over the phone. It made me confident that I had made the right decision. There was some miscommunication with when we could come to set up and when our event would start. We actually came to set up while another painting party was going on. The instructor and the ladies who were in the party before us were very friendly and didn't mind us as we set up what we could. Claude and his wife were at another event off site but did come as we were finishing up the set up and were so helpful (grabbing tables, storing our wine in the fridge, helping us set up). The real fun was when we started painting. Our instructor was such a trooper, she had been working all day but she kept her energy up. We were drinking wine and eating candy during the whole process but she was super patient. Our bride even dropped her painting at one point and our instructor set her up with a new canvas. Seeing that we were there for a bridal shower, I requested that people add a little risqué image in all their paintings. Again, our instructor stepped up and was able to show us a great way to draw this...special dolphin into our masterpieces. For some people, the timing mishap at the beginning of our party could have ruined the whole event. However, we were lucky that I am a pretty laid back planner, the bride was also super laid back and Claude and his wife are amazing. They were apologetic and helpful and super professional. At the end of the evening, I almost didn't want to leave. I wanted to keep painting and hanging out at the studio. Several of the girls who attended the event even said that they wanted to come back. Also, you don't need ANY artistic skill at all. The way the painting is instructed guarantees a really amazing piece of work! Don't be intimidated. The owners & the staff: Very kind, very helpful. There was also plenty enough staff around to keep the water cups clean and help redistribute paint if needed. One of them also walked me and my friend to our car once class was over as we were parked in the public lot and it was late at night. Instructions: Very straight forward with enough room for people to explore their own creativity and veer off a bit if they wanted to. Class was provided with enough options that they could add their own personal touch to their paintings with no problem. Ambiance: Music was playing -- today's pop hits mixed in with classics -- and there was lots of lively conversation. No judgement here if you're lacking in the creative department, and also none if you drop a palette on the ground. There were paint stains to indicate you would not be the first. :) Age range of students: The one I went to had a mix of young adult to senior. Some appeared to be regulars, some new to the scene, several friends on a night out, and a few couples on a date. Art supplies: (for the creatives) Student grade brushes, daler rowney system. They are quick to replace the ones that have been abused and also check mid-class to see if any have taken a further beating. My friend had a fine liner brush that was slightly bent at the tip. One of the staff noticed it and swapped it out immediately. I also overheard another employee say, "Glad we got so many liners on hand." Acrylic paint is Blick student grade--not thick in body, but it's pretty fluid. Canvas felt like the standard run of the mill kind you could pick up from joanns/Michaels, but staples are on the back, not the sides. Overall impression: This was a lot of fun for creatives and non-creatives! I highly recommend the class of painting the Huntington Beach Pier. I went with a friend for an evening and we both really enjoyed it. Total time was 2+ hrs. I would definitely go back. They have a punch card program at the moment too for getting your 5th visit free. read more

Such a great family owned establishment. The owner, Claude, remembered my name from when I had emailed him a couple weeks back, talk about great customer service. I scheduled a social group to go, 15 women, on a Wednesday night. We signed up for a regular session and when he noticed we were all in the same group, he made the event private for us. They had a table set up for us to put our snacks and a small refrigerator for our beverages. Our class was supposed to start at 7 but they waited until our whole group was there to start. Claude's daughter taught the painting and she gave us ample time to complete our masterpieces with our own interpretation. Brushstrokes motto is art, wine and fun and they live up to that motto (I only wish the wine was included). I am absolutely horrible at anything art related but Claude and Betty were wonderful and extremely encouraging. They are just all-around good people. They even gave us a discount that was for email subscribers even though we weren't on the email list. The price is pretty reasonable to begin with: $30 for a canvas, the use of about 5 brushes and acrylic paints, plus instruction. My 4 year old asks me every week to go paint, my 12 year old Son has taken a lot of classes here and his painting skills are getting very impressive. This review is long overdue, but you need to know that Brushstrokes is a great choice for painting and fun. We actually booked a private party for a work event. Although we ate before coming, you are allowed to bring in whatever food and drinks you'd like, which is rare at other businesses like this. The inside is really nice and there are chairs in a separate room if you need to take a break or get a beverage refill. Claude taught our group step-by-step how to execute a beautiful sunset with crossed palm trees. He was so patient and accommodating with all of us. Although there was some anxiety for those of us who thought we would suck at painting, his help resulted in all of us ending up happy and proud of our work. My husband and I stumbled upon Brushstrokes a few months ago while strolling around downtown Tustin waiting (forever) for our name to be called at Honda-Ya Sushi. I knew immediately this was where my daughter would want her 8th birthday party. Because we only throw one every other year, I wanted it to be memorable for her. I contacted Betty who accommodated everything - our preferred date, time, and the picture she wanted her friends to paint. When we arrived to set up, the professional artist leading the birthday part was there in addition to Betty and Claude, the owners. They were so down-to-earth and made us feel like extended family - as if we were holding the party in our own home - which is rare these days. Most of the time, at places that cater to birthday parties for kids, college-aged employees rush you the moment you arrive as if you're widget going through their factory because another party is scheduled back-to-back. Not exactly the "memorable" experience we all are hoping (and paying) for. Our artist, Matt, realized painting polar bears might be a bit challenging for kids so he decided to cut out a stencil for them so their paintings looked great. He was right and it added such an extra touch. The kids had a blast - so did the adults! I can't speak highly enough about our experience and I am almost always disappointed with the poor level of customer service that pervades our retail industry these days. The only suggestion I have is providing signage that helps guide guests regarding an appropriate tip for the artist - we wanted to give Matt the right amount and had to guess.
