A Colorado legend. If you've never had oysters (not the aquatic variety), there's no better place! I prefer the beef but most of my group liked buffalo. Often times lamb fries are available too. If you stray from the oysters to something less...reproductive tract...you'll find decent bar food but nothing to write home about. There's not much else in Severance so their town motto is "where the geese fly and the bulls cry". If you're in the Greeley or Fort Collins area it's worth the stop. read more

Not very welcoming on the outside but it's a pleasant surprise on the inside. It's a typical dive bar with pool table, small bar area and a bunch of locals. The menu looked good with different meats like yak, elk and buffalo. Oh, and you cannot forget the main attraction (to me at least) are the rocky mountain oysters(!) both buffalo and cow. I got both the buffalo and cow because it's likely the first and last time that I'll ever order them so I had to try each one. A little strange, a little chewy and a little addictive. Pretty much anything you batter and fry will be fine. I'm sure that an old shoe with some beer batter will fry up nicely, but I digress. Overall, I would say go and try it. It's worth it. This place is great and is a throwback local bar where people do a really good job. They're famous for their oysters and they are really good, taken a lot of out of state family there and they are all surprised how good they are. When they get busy (which is quite often) they tend to be a little slow with the food but those at the bar are always working hard. Play a little pool or jump on the shuffleboard to kill some time and you will enjoy yourself and the food, plus a brew! read more

Here's the deal. Bruce's is a dive bar with good food. Anyone commenting on decor or atmosphere maybe doesn't understand that no one goes to Bruce's for the decor. It's a place you go when someone in the group hasnt had RMOs, when you need a Bloody Mary & a breakfast burrito or if you want some good bar food. The brisket sandwich is a personal favorite. eh i hate to be harsh but this place really didn't deliver....on a few levels. first let me start with the positives... i LOVE the way the place looks on the outside. As a "tourist", we came here because we heard they had some of the best oysters in colorado, and we wanted something local as well, so when we pulled up...bam I was happy. Unfortunately, I gotta say, that's where the love for the place ends. The staff wasn't ultra friendly. We had a pretty long wait when it came to checking our ID's (me and my girlfriend are 30 btw). Another manager came over to appologize about the ID situation btw (to follow up by asking us about our birthdays and such.....). I don't really mind this, especially since we both have out of state IDs, but it was just the first of a few "eh" moments. So we had the ID moment and then I hate to say, our waitress was just straight up not a friendly person. I felt like I was burdening her throughout our stay. And then the food...well, the oysters were fine I guess. If that's how rocky mountain oysters are, that's how they are, but to me they just tasted like "fried (blank)". they tasted like fried anything if that makes sense. My elk burger was fine. Everything was fine...but that's about it. The low review is based mostly on an un-welcoming staff + decent food + eh interior. If you're from out of town...i'd say don't go TOO out of your way for this place. read more

So I have not had bull fries in many years. When I heard the buzz about Bruce's I figured I had to go... My kid and I had 2 plates of oysters......More than enuf food for 4 or 5 people. This place gets 2 stars only for the waitstaff being accommodating and seating us without a reservation. We won't be back though. There were 11 of us. They got one order wrong and she had to wait an additional 20 minutes for the correct order while the rest of us had ours. The guy that ordered steak and potato got a cold steak and potato was hard. He took his plate to the manager who told him they should have never sat us in the first place and we should have went somewhere else. Really? What kind of service is that? He did comp his meal but he did not get dinner... Not good service and food was par. We won't be back. read more

Bruce's is a great destination off the beaten path for a nice afternoon or evening drive. The food is good & plentiful for the price. I enjoy the Sat prime rib dinner special. The RMO's are OK as well. read more

Service is a problem. I understand I had a large group (2 adults and 8 varying age kids) but that doesn't explain why food took an hour to get to the table and glasses sat empty even tho wait staff said they were bringing a pitcher to the table. After I politely expressed that this was unacceptable nothing improved. After a second reminder to the wait staff that service was lacking it got somewhat better. Bill was $145, left to waitress 2 100's and told her that this was the second time we had this poor level of service and would never be returning. read more

Stopped in for dinner tonight... it was not good at all. The service was horrible. There were only 2 servers and the place was packed. It took forever to get our food and when it finally got to us it was cold. The fish and chips I ordered were flavorless and fries were dry and cold. The guys ordered the steak and shrimp specials and both steaks were overcooked. We've been there before and always had enjoyed our meal, but tonight was a disaster!! read more

Ok place. Claim to fame is the rocky Mountain oysters. I personally like the Buffalo oysters better. Other than that, just a regular place with regular food. Biker bar with cheap beer and a couple populars like Blue Moon or Fat Tire. They were actually kinda rude to my wife once. She ordered the special, we then heard someone at the bar order the same, and then 5 minutes later we were told they were out but then the guy at the bar still got it. I love this place!! The Rocky Mountain oysters are amazing, tender, and the best I've ever had. They also have a version made from buffalo. In addition to that, they have great burgers made from different local meats. Oh yea, of you like dessert go for the homage cobbler and Blue Bell ice cream. Horrible. The waitress was a grumpy woman who couldn't even manage to take our drink order with civility, much less friendliness. She was also snippy when taking our food order...in fact, the only time she managed to behave marginally better was right before "tip time." The place was practically empty, but half of our table's orders arrived about 10 minutes after the first group, so we were eating in shifts. Everything is fried to within an inch of its life, so it doesn't matter what you get -- chicken strips, mushrooms, Rocky Mountain Oysters -- they all taste like fried batter. I've lived within walking distance from Bruce's for over 2 years now. We've been here a dozen times and regret it every time. Today we tried the breakfast hoping the dogs would be better. The food is terrible and the service is worse. Waited almost 40 minutes for some of the worst food I've ever eaten. I was astonished how bad it was. I live in Ault, just 11 miles away from Bruce's Bar. There has not been a real restaurant in Ault for several years now. On Sunday night I went to Bruce's. There were 2 very young girls waiting tables. Actually 1 was spending quite a lot of time staring at the computer/cash register, in bewilderment. I sat down at the bar so one of them would notice me. Restaurant's in Weld county are notorious for poor service, so I do what I can to be seen when I enter. After several minutes I stood up and, completely unnoticed, walked out. Now I do this frequently, as I am from a part of the U.S. where bad service is NOT the norm, and I am not tolerant. I'm sure I will return to Bruce's, but not without calling to find out how many waitresses are working at that moment. read more

Yelp will probably bump this since I don't write reviews very often, and because Bruce's doesn't need a bloated review from people like me to stay in business -- they've been around 60 years by following the same formula day in, day out. The 5 stars isn't based solely on quality of food or service, but more on the "comfort" factor that some things never change. You don't go here for a fine dining experience, although there are places that (thanks to Bruce's) serve Rocky Mountain oysters on china and white table cloths. If you want that, you're in the wrong town. Bruce's is all about good food, good portions, served in a unique atmosphere. As a poor college kid in Greeley 35 years ago I came here to get a bunch of food at a reasonable price and then unwind with live entertainment. During a recent visit to CO we stopped by for a plate of oysters and some beers, and if not for some minor interior changes we felt like we were transported back in time. Heck, I think the girl at the bar may have waited on us 35 years ago. The beef balls were exactly as we remembered -- tasty with a little bit of chew (but not tough). The addition of buffalo -- either as a hamburger or balls -- was interesting. I reluctantly tried the buff balls, and they were so good and tender we ended up ordering another plate. We knew to get there early on a Saturday, so we had plenty of attention from our servers. By the time the band started playing, the place was packed with a mix of college kids, bikers and obvious locals. EXACTLY as it was 35 years ago. Bruce's is an institution that must be experienced to be appreciated. If you can't come to grips with eating RM oysters for what they are, their hamburgers are cooked-to-order AWESOME. If staying in the Loveland/Ft. Collins/Greeley area, you're only about 30 minutes from Bruce's -- do yourself a favor and head over to this little piece of Americana. read more

Service and food were great until it was time to pay. We received a coupon for my husband's birthday for a free Entree no strings attached. The server did not remove the entree and had to ask the manager for assistance. The manager removed the cheapest meal. I mentioned this to the server and it took over a half hour to receive the revised bill. We paid and left. Much to my dismay, we were charged for the incorrect bill and the correct bill. I left message, sent e-mails and disputed it with my bank. My bank removed the charge and the next day Bruce's charged my credit card a third time for the incorrect amount! I called the location and the manager Will stated the only way they could fix it is if I came in and they gave me cash. Wow! Talk about poor cash management training! What a Happy Birthday for my husband. The free entree for your birthday with no strings attached sure has wasted a lot of our time. read more
