I ate here tonight with my work crew and I have to say that the food here was really great. Three ordered various steaks, while myself and the 5th ordered the open faced turkey and gravy. I was immediately disappointed after I ordered, not because the sandwich, but because the steaks sounded so good. But I stuck with the sandwich, which were cuts of turkey, possibly lunch meat, grilled and put over white bread (I had a heel which was a bit of a turn off) and absolutely covered in white gravy. Overall the sandwich was good, but I would have liked turkey gravy, not white gravy. But being that we are in Brawley, I let it pass. The potatoes were great, and it came with a side of green beans simmered with tomatoes and onions. This mix is not something that I have ever heard of before, but it worked. I don't have much feedback on the steaks except to say that they were cooked to order and the crew seemed overall happy with them. The service was great, and the waiter came and checked up on us several times, and we even had another server come over to top off some of our drinks. Perhaps the folks here started reading Yelp. Overall, I'd say great food at reasonable prices, and well worth the visit if you happen to be in this tiny corner of California. read more

Brownies grand special is the only thing you need to know about the menu. Place has amazing decoration and friendly staff! Best diner in the valley read more

I've been to a lot of diner's and this was not a very good one. The food was overly greasy, and stale. I had the "specialty." which was biscuits with scrambled eggs, cheese and covered with gravy. It came with bacon and hash browns. The biscuits were so stale that they were inedible. The gravy and eggs were ok. The hash browns were so greasy and it tasted like old grease from 20 years of wear. The bacon also tasked like it was fried on a griddle with grease from 20 years of buildup. It was downright awful. My husband had the cinnamon roll which was huge and had good flavor but was still on the stale side. I would not recommend this place and will not be going back. read more

On our way back from visiting family, we stopped by Brownie's to have breakfast. I came out very satisfied. Good service, good food, clean place. It's a locals favorite. read more

Good selection of food. Typical greasyspoon however the grease tasted weeks old. Not a lot else to say.

I've had many early morning meals here. All with mixed results. My most recent trip was not what I hoped. I opted for the chicken and waffles. The waffle was fantastic. I will recommend their waffles to everyone. However, the chicken was a different story. The chicken tasted and smelt like some freezer burnt microwave chicken. This proved to be my most disappointing trip here ever. I will stick to the menu options commonly ordered. So waffles pancakes or biscuits and gravy it is. read more

I ate here last May, 2012, so if they're under different management now...let's just say I hope so. The food was below mediocre. As I recall, it was roast beef and mashed potatoes with vegetables on the side. The meat wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. The vegetables looked and tasted like they'd been microwaved and were sad and shrivelled up. To top things off, I thought I'd redeem this crummy meal with some dessert from their restaurant so I ordered blackberry cobbler to go. They put it in a styrofoam cup with a lid. I didn't look at it until I got back to the hotel room and it was a small scoop of cobbler that looked like the frozen kind you can buy at the supermarket, only also leftover and reheated. I was so disappointed and a bit grossed out by the whole thing. On top of which, I was travelling for work (which is the ONLY reason I'd ever be in Brawley and I'll make sure to never stay there again) and used nearly all my meal per diem on that unappetizing food! But it was too late...I'd ordered it and I had to eat it because I was hungry. Ugh. The service wasn't anything to write home about either. But the hotel staff only named two places in town to eat. My suggestion - try not to have to eat here. read more

Four words "avoid at all cost". Recently went to this place thinking it would be a nice diner. Ordered the "brownies cheeseburger" with fries. Fries were not good at all. They seemed like they were overfried, they were really hard, and just not tasty at all. Burger was mediocre at best. Bun was simple cheap bun, meat was nothing special, and the other stuff was the same. In short I will never go to this diner again. It cost $11 to eat a cheeseburger that will be easily forgettable. DO NOT COME HERE read more

Love a local place that has zero pretense. The food is that all-American-Mexican food that diners like this tend to serve. Homemade soups are worth the trip from anywhere you're from. The menu has been honed by loyal customers who know what they like and can sit down to a familiar booth knowing that their order went in before they walked in the door. Everyone seems to have an easy and respectful banter. Customers, cooks and wait staff exchange niceties. I've ordered Mexican food and it was fresh cooked with fresh ingredients. The albondigas will make an atheist believe in God. I have also ordered American diner food and was quite pleased. The farmers love this place. The portions are generous. Price is cheap. Lots of kids running about, but parents watch them and they don't take over. read more

Lets put it this way, it had been 120 degrees the past 2 days, and we were looking for a place to hunker down for a while, get some grub, and most importantly get hydrated. This place served us perfectly. Its a bit kitschy inside but the food is solid, the prices are great, and our server was great. Solid small town diner that I would stop in again at. read more

Stopped by for breakfast and ordered the chicken fried steak. The steak was great and service is awesome. Would definitely return and suggest if you are in or near Brawly, CA to stop by and have a meal. read more

One of the best burgers in the state. The fries are perfect. If for some reason you're in Brawley...eat here!

Albondigas is bland and isn't properly seasoned. Other then that Brownies over all is pretty dope.

I stop by on the way back to LA from Holtville and it's a tradition to have menudo. It's consistent and good. Service was fast for ordering and food to the table. And then service got slow when it was time to take my money. Spacious parking and clean bathroom. read more

Brownie's Diner - Menudo - Diners Near Me - Brawley, California

I've grown up in this town and am happy to have a real diner with real down home diner food. I think it's the only one in the Valley. That being said the costumer service at this place is really lacking. I wish the employees where trained better so it would be a more comfortable place to sit and eat. Even if you're the only table in the place they pretty much ignore you. They take forever to get to you, they let your food site in the window too long and don't even think about getting your drink refilled in a timely manner. That being said if you don't care about things like that the food good at a good price. read more

Food was awesome. Not the cleanest place around, but the service was great for the IV.

We stopped at Brownies as we were passing through Brawley. Seemed like the only place to be able to sit down and order off a menu in town. As we walked in, it was obvious this was the place where the locals eat. Three of us decided on Mexican and our daughter ordered the country fried steak. It looked delicious. She wouldn't share a bite, so can't comment other than her comments. The Mexican was excellent. We all ordered the combo plates and the servings were very generous and well prepared. The accompanying salsa was good and spiced up the meal. The meat in the taco could have used some salt, but that was easily handled. That was probably my only complaint. We all enjoyed every bite. The service was adequate and had refills on water and soda. We would definately stop at Brownies when traveling through Brawley again. read more

They serve the best menudo in town! My husband loves the breakfast hash browns, when he orders breakfast. The service was good.

Was in this place this morning. When they delivered my order, the eggs were cold, the hash browns (frozen of course) were cold. This reminds me of why I've stayed out of this place for years. Not planning on going back. read more

You can get an excellent breakfast here. Good salads too. Don't order the pastrami sandwich, if you are expecting something like you get in New York, you will be disappointed. Brownies could use a fresh update. Some of the booth seats are beyond repair. The staff are nice and service is pretty quick. read more

The ownership of this restaurant doesn't seem in tune with the common customer. Found her to be quite arrogant and dismissive, insincerely apologetic and I will never give her any more of my hard earned money. read more

Brawley is a small town but from San Diego to Taos Txs. there is no place like Brownies for their rice pudding and bread pudding. I understand that they no longer serve it. But if they brought it back, I'd be there in a NY min! Great small town diner. Service is speedy and friendly. Can get very busy which might slow service, but that is to be expected. Salsa is perfect. Not too hot, not too mild. Please try the chilaquiles. The sauce is so flavorful and the chips stay crispy till the end. Breakfast is classic diner. Huge portions and great flavor. Prices are great. read more

since i needed to kill some time before heading home i decided i would give brownie's another try highly recommend the albondigas as for the service, the first person who was my server was great, but she was going off shift which meant a new server, she was ok,but not as good as the first one. Also got the chimichanga plate, wasn't bad,but the refried beans were a little too salty for my taste, but then again i don't usually use salt on my food,so it might not be too much for someone else read more

Brownie's Diner - the only thing missing is the cabbage at least i didn't see any, other than that it quite hearty and filling - Diners Near Me - Brawley, California

For anyone who is from the Imperial Valley, you should disregard the 1 star comment below, if only because you know that there's no waaaay you'd go to Brownie's for a burrito on the way to Glamis, those tourists obviously know nothing about the area!! For anyone who actually goes to Brownie's for what they're supposed to go there for, aka DINER FOOD and BREAKFAST and HOMEMADE SOUP, you will leave smiling. Brownie's is a staple for Brawley, and has been around for at least 10,000 years. Okay, so it's probably closer to 50, but it's been around long enough that everyone in the town knows that the old men around town play liars poker there every day at 4pm. First off, Brownie's has the ONLY homemade menudo in town, and that alone is enough to have the place have a line out the door on saturday and sunday mornings. In fact, I have frequently seen older men coming in with huge pots to be filled up with the Menudo, paying whatever the cost for as much as they can fit in there. In fact, all of their soups are great, and made fresh daily. My personal favorite is the Albondigas, hmm hmm. The owners are perhaps the nicest people in the world, Gabe and Juanita want you to leave happy, and are there almost entirely throughout the day in order to make sure that happens. The omelettes are as big as my head, and the pancakes are fluffy and not too heavy. Brownie's is THE place to go for breakfast, not just in Brawley, but the in whole valley. As far as I'm concerned, Glamis people that think Brawley is just trash can stay out, I'll gladly take their table come Sunday morning. read more

Best Menudo ever....... I'll ride hundreds of miles for it!

Best refried beans I've ever had. Worth going for that alone. Went for lunch and going again for breakfast tomorrow.

Service was super slow. It took 40 min for a medicore bbq onion burger. I could have gotten one in less than ten minutes at Carl's Jr. My friends ordered albondigas. They were raw and tasted like sausages. Overall, this place was awful. This was my first and last time eating at Brownies. read more

The specialized food they serve here is typically American and Mexican food. I've been a local of Brawley for a very long time, but I had never been interested in coming in here. For my first time being here, yesterday the food was acceptable, however not the best to what people make it seem. However, when I mentioned this to some of my firends they relayed the fact that the best time to eat there was during breakfast. read more

My friends and I were starving after birding at the Salton Sea all day, and we found Brownie's on Yelp. Three of us had Mexican food and were extremely happy with our orders. I loved my chile relleno. One person had a gigantic hamburger that she really liked.
