Just a small lice of the teacup decor at the darling Virginia's Casita in Brawley

We've been in the area for a few years now and have wanted to try out Virginia's Casita. But try as we might we were never able to find it. Finally one Saturday DH and I were on a mission. After turning into a parking lot that was for tenants of some apartments, behind some gorgeous shrubs and trees, we saw it! A pretty little corner unit with a generous and shady patio, with a neat as a pin interior with a very cute teacup motif. Virginia obviously takes great care and pride in her place. The food certainly reflects that. DH ordered Chile Colorado and for myself Chile Verde of course. Started with nice warm and crisp chips and salsa. Tasty without being too overpoweringly hot. Next up was a cup of Mexican chicken soup. Such simple ingredients that packaged a big punch. Followed up with our Chile plates. Generous portions of the best rice and beans I've ever had in the Imperial Valley. Very authentic. The meats were very tenter. Fork tenter actually. And the sauces were rich, flavorful and authentic in all respects. Brought just the right 'sheen' to my forehead! Service was wonderful. Felt like we were being taken care of by our favorite abuela. And pricing was very reasonable.

Great place , hidden in a strip mall in a bit of a seedy area .. when you walk in has a very Mexican feel , the staff and patrons were all very friendly , I had the huevos rancheros which was excellent , wife had chiliquilles the meal comes wit a bowl of a light broth noodle soup, virgina waited on us and was very polite and accommodating,

Amazing family run restaurant! They are just super nice and really feels authentic. I adore how they decorated the inside with teapots. My favorite is really the chicken noodle soup as it's flavorful and just yummy!

We got a warm welcome when we enter. The owner greeted us. We were a party of 8 and they made sure we all sat together. The place has a lot of plates in the walls, a lot of decorations everywhere. It kinda seems like you are in someone's home. Food wise, not the best! The chips and salsa they first give you are store bought. The orange juice taste that is from the gallon jar. Husband did enjoy the ice coffee (the only thing that tasted ok). The French toast where just toasted bread with cinnamon taste. They got also got bacon, it was over cook. My burrito wasn't the best, only nopales with egg, no salsa or avocado just plain no seasoning. The avocado toast was ok, cannot go wrong with avocado, but half an avocado for each bread isn't enough. My brother in law got the chilaquiles, same chips and salsa as they serve us at the beginning, not the best. Please note, if you use their cup they will charge $1 so just get a to go cup.

If you can find this place it's a fun breakfast. The entrance is off of a parking lot /alleyway. It's in the back of a big building just off of main Street. The French toast was excellent with eggs and with crisp bacon. Biscuits and gravy were meaty and creamy and the biscuits were super soft. Chile verde omelet was excellent with big chunks of pork not too spicy. The steak potato omelette was fun. Nice mix of vegetables and pieces of steak and a red sauce. Comes with some really creamy beans and a side of potatoes. The service is great. I think the lady that owns the place comes out and talks to me she brought around a soup. I'm not sure how you have soup for breakfast but we ate it and it was delicious tomatoe. They refilled my iced tea when it got near the bottom. All smiles, really friendly, and reasonably priced. Parking is easy in the parking lot on the side and the restrooms were very clean.

Brawley a very hot place in the summer. Small town and looks like an old town. Well the city has many places to dine in and i looked up a mexican restaurant and came across Virginia's casita. I noticed right away it had sooo many 5 star reviews so i had to try it. At first we stood there waiting to be seated and Virginia had not noticed us standing there as she attended things around and was cleaning...but an employee who works there noticed us standing and waiting and at the same time talking to Virginia as she sipped on her refreshment and not once mentioned to Virginia "you got customers" since Virginia did not notice we were there waiting. Once Virginia noticed us she apologized and stated she did not see us come in and this was true but her employee did. Once seated we were given chips and salsa and i have to be honest here ..the chips did have a mix of stale and crunchy chips. salsa was good. I love Aguas and we were given sample which was nice and that to me was the best. Freshly made and very delicious and refreshing. i loved the Jamaica and they also had this Tropical one that was amazing. The menu was easy to read and i noticed on the back it is stated "aguas w/refill 4.95" and that i liked and cups were a good size and to get a refill was awesome. You get sopa de fidel along with your order and comes out before your order and the soup was nice. i enjoyed it. We ordered and we got a torta de carnitas and sopes. Sopes i was told they did not have that flavor that one enjoys when homemade but overall they were ok. My torta was good, i enjoyed it but the carnitas were more like chunks not pulled apart or shredded. But i had no problem with it just usually i get the meat pulled apart. my dish came with fried and they did not taste made from scratch they had ridges and seem like they came frozen but then just cooked and fried but they did taste good enough to eat :) so we finished and we were satisfied. and still enjoying our refreshments with "one" refill still to get keep in mind. Virginia has been in the business 50 years and is open from morning till 2pm. its good and many customers seem to love it and dine in and enjoy Virginias vibes. virginia is as sweet as they come. lovely and welcomes you and visits your table and ask how is everything and very warming. ok so she asked if we wanted a refill and we decided to ask for it on foam cup to go since we were done. Virginia said offcourse and got us our drinks on to go cups. We got up to pay with satisfaction on our tummys. Once Virginia went over the bill we noticed we were charged $20 for the drinks! we were shocked and asked why so much on drinks? Virginia stated because we got refills. And i quickly and nicely corrected her and said her menu has the drinks "with 1 refill". Virginia said yes but thats only if you drink your refill within the restaurant. I was again shocked she said that. We had told her before ordering we are new to city and it was our first time. Having said that i feel Virginia could have and should have said if we take the drinks to go she would have to charge us. But to me thats besides the point since a refill is a refill regardless u drink inside or to go. We were so good and happy and satisfied until the charge on the drinks being doubled. i explained and mentioned that i had no idea one gets charged to have then to go. Virginia just said i will refund just one then and i was not going to be negative or rude so i just said ok let me just pay the bill and we had only one refill removed which should have been both since being nee customers and was jot told that or displayed on the menu to advise customers that there free refills turn out to be charged if one takes it to go. Well our 5 star turned into 4 star due to this which being new customers we should have experience differently about the charging on drinks. Place is nice and has many dishes displayed and i do recommend this place highly but just be careful and "ask" about how charges work on refills or anything specifically :)

I spend 8-10 weeks in Brawley every year for work and this place is my favorite thing about it. The food is so good. The owners are so sweet. Just the best place i wish I they were in Phoenix so I could eat here year round.

    Biscuit and gravy

Went here for the first time and was welcomed. The decor is really cute and there's a lot to look at. I was with returning customers. So, it was really nice to have that warm welcome. All employees were so nice with smiles and laughter. There wasn't any room for bad vibes in there. The food is really good. Clean. I had breakfast burrito and biscuits and gravy. Really good food all around the table. The atmosphere was really good.

The best!!!!!!! Home cooking around!! Thanks Mama Virginia

This place isn't bad but it could definitely use some improvements. I ordered delivery from here…read moreand got chicken wings, chicken Alfredo, and garlic bread. The garlic bread was just bolillo bread (the kind of bread you eat with menudo) with butter and garlic seasoning. The chicken wings were also really soggy and for some they were all dark brown on the inside. It was really unappetizing to see. The Alfredo wasn't too bad. I don't think I will be trying this place again.

Cute ambiance, amazing wait staff and good value for the quality and portion size. The bread brought for the table was perfect crispy outside, soft inside. All the dishes were well made. I took a lasagna plate to go for my adult son and he loved it as well. Best part is how well-trained their staff is; I ordered a diet coke and they let me know they were out and offered other suggestions. I went with a water but not five minutes later they came with a diet coke! What kept them from 5 stars? There is no dedicated parking lot and the area around them (north of them is fine but south down the street is another story) is sketchy at best and doesn't seem particularly safe to park your car on the street. The menu is not very broad, but overall a very nice experience!
