Visiting Ireland for the first time, I did my best to read up on good places to grab breakfast, baked goods in Dublin and Brother Hubbard popped up on a few lists, Reddit posts, so I put it on my list to try and I'm glad I did! I walked in on a Wednesday morning, right as they opened at 9am, and was seated immediately. The sit-in part of Brother Hubbard is bright, relaxing, spacious with plenty of tables inside and there's a patio outside with plenty of tables as well. The waitress came over with a menu and gave me plenty of time to look it over. She was very courteous and pleasant, checking in throughout my time there, never hovering. For breakfast, I ordered an Americano, a ginger scone, and their Irish Oat Porridge - Classic. Their porridge is organic oats made with milk and with ordering it as "Classic", it was served with cream and honey. Starting with the ginger scone, this was another case of a perfectly baked scone - Crispy, golden exterior with a moist, buttery interior. The flavor of ginger was perfectly balanced and the raisins inside were a nice supplement to the scone. The porridge was really good, I loved the creaminess of it! Both did a nice job of filling me up and setting me up for the day of walking to come. Funny enough, around 3:30pm, I stopped here again to grab a mid-afternoon treat and ordered the chocolate and hazelnut Babka, their soft bun filled with chocolate and toasted hazelnuts. This pastry was crazy tasty! A slightly crispy exterior with a croissant-like inside chocked full of chocolate and those toasted hazelnuts. This was so rich and truly decadent. Brother Hubbard is a gem of a breakfast and pastry spot! I appreciate the relaxing café environment with friendly staff and high-quality food. I know if I come back to Dublin, I'd come back to grab breakfast, or perhaps another Babka. read more

I heard Brother Hubbard was the restaurant to eat at to start your day, so finally checked it out on my last day in Dublin. Brother Hubbard is a solid spot for breakfast and brunch, serving entrees, lighter fare and offers a pastry assortment that will have you pondering about getting takeout. I visited Brother Hubbard on a Sunday, half an hour after it opened and was able to be seated immediately. However, the brunch rush came afterwards and by the time I left, the entire place was filled. It's popular. And yes, it's the same spot Phil Rosenthal ate at. I even saw the owner who was featured on the show here, helping out with clearing tables and so forth. I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast and an iced chai latte. The food was good and actually, not as heavy as I anticipated. It came with an egg, sausage, bacon, beans and a pudding, which I had to look up. It's ground meat with oats and is molded into a patty. It didn't taste bad, so can see why it's served around these parts of the world. And the meal also came with another item I had to look up, colcannon bread, which was a potato bread with kale. And it was my favorite part of the breakfast! Delicious. If you're looking for a breakfast spot in Dublin, then I'm pretty sure you already know about Brother Hubbard, which is popular, all for good reason. The ginger "bear" didn't have any sweetness to it if you're thinking it's like ginger beer. After eating all the local fare for over a week around the country, it was nice to have a fresh vegetarian meal with my honey (he did get the sausages). Loved the hazelnut and beet combo for the hummus and the crispy/soft pita, the "gently spiced" batata harra, and the salad of the day. The cauliflower sub could have been cooked more. Very good breakfast spot. We got there early and instill were about 4th party in "line". But, no worries, the restaurant is huge so there was no problem getting everyone in and serviced. The selection is Middle Eastern influenced with smoked eggplant, hummus, fried halloumi, and wraps. Tasty, trendy and centrally located, Brother Hubbard is a lively and open space close to the Liffey. The baked goods are fresh and they offer a wonderful variety of breakfast/brunch options from which to choose. On my recent trip to Ireland, they had arguably the best coffee during my trip. The brunch/lunch menus show a strong Mideast influence, with salads and sides that would very much be at home in much of the eastern Mediterranean. The flavors are good and the dishes attractively plated. Service, too, was very good--somewhat surprising since its location is pretty much in the heart of the touristy portions of Dublin. My only small complaint are the location of the bathrooms. To say they are some distance from the actual dining area is an understatement! They were able to accommodate our party of six for dinner, and we ordered a few items to share family style. The service was friendly and welcoming. I was in search of a yummy dinner after spending some time at the Jameson distillery while here on holiday. Brother Hubbard seemed to be a good bet and I walked here after quite a few cocktails hoping for some yummy bites. It was a Friday evening and I hadn't made a booking but they were able to accommodate me which I was very grateful for. They had an extremely large group and were all out of their tasting menu for the evening but I made do with the a la carte menu. I started with the Haloumi Fries with Chilli Honey & Za'atar, these are sooooo tasty. I love cheese and I love spicy, the two combined with honey is heaven in your mouth. I also ordered their Beetroot & Dill hummus. I love beets and this hummus was sooooo good with an order of their warm flatbread. I added the lamb entrée, although I probably didn't really need it and it was my least favorite. I don't mind lamb but this dish did not hold up beside the two starters which were very tasty. All in all this was a very lovely experience, with great service and I enjoyed my dinner. I'd recommend if you're in town and looking for a non pub meal. We were looking for the sit down location, but somehow google map brought us to the Arnotts (mall) location. This is more like cafeteria style where you point and choose, they will bring the food to your table. The menu items are pretty limited here. We had a bowl of salad where we could try all 3 on the menu that day, and we also shared a chicken wrap. Since both items we ended up with were cold, I can't say we had the best meal here. Maybe the sit down place would be better. At this Arnotts location it is probably better for coffee and a pastry. read more

I ordered the peach cupcake with vanilla buttercream. For me, the cupcake itself was too dry and the buttercream, although it had a nice smooth texture,t was not sweet enough. I think there was also a misunderstanding, as I thought that there was peach compote in the middle of it, but alas, there was nothing. What a great start to the day...at noon. Day three adjusting from EST to GMT and finding that skipping breakfast (or sleeping through it) and having a solid delicious tasting meal mid-day with a light dinner it what's working for us. This was no exception. We've been lucky to be guided by some locals that are the daughter and son-in-law of a coworker who reside in North Dublin and this was their choice for today. A wall of cookbooks for sale greet you when you enter. I'm a sucker for beautifully styled cookbooks but was too hungry to peruse. We were escorted to a table for four, walking through a space filled with greenery - plants hanging from everywhere inside and on the enclosed patio. Space was open and airy. Service was prompt and friendly. Had a hard time choosing from the mostly Turkish inspired menu, but since I wanted to try a variety of flavors decided on the Meat Mezze platter. It had shredded lamb, grilled red Chile pepper, awesome hummus, a cabbage slaw, pickled red onion and carrots, a tomato cucumber salad and a flatbread. No matter how you combined things on the platter they were very complementary, and now that I'm writing this, still full 5 hours later, I am crazing another. We might have to go back tomorrow. My kiddo had the French toast which was like a 2 inch slab of bread topped with some kind of yummy fruited cream cheese and surrounded by some fruity compote. Sorry I don't have more of a description for ya, cause I was too preoccupied with my deliciousness and managed only one bite of the French toast. This restaurant opened during a global recession and is thriving in a global pandemic. I can see why. If you are ever in Dublin, make this a destination! read more

The service was exceptional with friendly servers who genuinely appreciated our enjoyment of the fabulous dishes. We tried the Warm olives in chili oil, the cauliflower in three sauces, Spanish sausage, seasonal hummus finishing with sharing the OMG chocolate cake. Our only disappointment was the baked Alaska was not available. The food was delicious there was no way we could decide on one favorite dish. The food is delicious - well seasoned and good blend of Mediterranean/Arabic tastes with a hint of Irish flare ! Also very accommodating to dietary restrictions. Most importantly- there was a huge line when we showed up. Happily enough, the space is deceiving (it is HUGE inside) and the line moves incredibly fast, this place is like an assembly line. Don't be intimidated by wait time. I loveeeeeeeed brunch here. The mimosas were definitely way over priced ($9 for a tiny glass) but the food was worth it over and over again. I ordered the collard greens and corn bread with a side of hummus and avo with nut dukkah. One of the best meals I've eaten, ever. The flavors were amazing together and so well thought out. I am a hummus aficionado and this was without a doubt the best hummus I've ever eaten. I wish I could of taken more to go back to the states with me!! I also tried the smoothie bowl with coconut oats which was definitely unique and flavorful in its own right. This is probably the best place I ate at during my trip to Ireland. Vegetarian friendly, great dining experience, and a hipster vibe. I ordered a flatbread with eggplant, egg, and hummus with a side of spring mix which was absolutely delicious. It's reasonably priced for brunch, however if you're trying to get mimosas, they are a bit on the expensive side. The place is pretty busy too so it seems to attract many locals and tourists. Luckily, reservations are not necessary and there's not much of a wait. I'm not the biggest fan of Middle Eastern cuisine, but Brother Hubbard - North may have converted me! :) I was dining on my own around brunch time and was seated quickly by the window overlooking the street. The server I had was attentive and friendly as I asked for recommendations. He told me the Turkish Eggs Menemen was popular and the prosecco drink was delicious so I ordered both. The Eggs Menemen was delicious, and the sour bread went well with all the other additions on the plate (feta, olives, salsa, onions). The rosita drink (2 parts prosecco and 1 part raspberry juice) was amazing - not too overly sweet or strong - it was perfectly mixed. If I lived in Dublin I would eat brunch here every weekend! The brunch menu was short, but sweet and included about a dozen different entrees. I ordered the Eggs Menemen and I must say this dish may have changed my life. It was just that good! My breakfast consisted of a classic Turkish dish of scrambled eggs, with a whipped feta yogurt, kalamata olives, fresh mint and herbs, red onion, roasted pepper, tomato sauce, and fresh chili, served over baby spinach leave sand sourdough toast. I added chorizo to my dish for an additional €2.95 because when life offers you chorizo you say "yes". I usually don't splurge on fresh squeezed orange juice, but I was on vacation so I decided to go wild. Wow, simply amazing and worth the €3.30. My husband and sister ordered the Breakfast of Champignons which included baked Portobello mushrooms in a light creamy blue cheese sauce, soft poached eggs, roasted tomato, caramelized onions, and fresh baby spinach leaves served on griddled sourdough toast. I ordered the sweet potato with chorizo and loved it. It was such a unique flavor and it was a pretty large portion (but I still cleared it). Part of being a foodie during your travels is not only to try the regional specialties but to also look for the places where the locals *actually* eat. These places can be very different. During my research I found out that Brother Hubbard was well respected by Yelp, local foodie blogs in Dublin, McKenna's Guides (Ireland restaurant rating system) as well as respectable Internet press (Visit Dublin, Irish Times). VENUE: Smallish restaurant on the north side of the River Liffey. Use the Ha'penny Bridge to cross from the south. They don't take reservations and mandate that all your party be present before being seated. On a weekend it's quite the popular spot and by 10am the restaurant was opening up its other section for seats. If you're a solo traveler you'll probably be seated by the window, which is a good spot for people-watching. SERVICE: Good service. I got their Turkish eggs menemen (our take on a classic Turkish dish - eggs scrambled with tomato & paprika-roast peppers, with feta & olive yogurt, and a herb, chilli & red onion salsa. Served on sourdough toast with baby spinach leaves, €10.50). This is one of their most popular breakfast items and is similar to the North African breakfast dish shakshuka except less saucy. When you are served this dish the salt and pepper condiments are presented along with your silverware in a nice platter. Eggs are a tad spicy to my liking but seasoned well with paprika, tomatoes, red onions and feta. I added avocado to this and it added good fats and protein without needing any additional meat. Along with the Fumbally, one of the more "hip" places to eat in Dublin and it reminded me of the breakfast spots popular in Northern California. Though a little pricey here for brunch they do serve up a good plate. Definitely would suggest this for weekend brunch or if you're looking for breakfast that's a bit different from a typical Irish fry-up as it's definitely quite a bit healthier. read more

Massive extension added at the back into the former Gary Rhodes D7 premises so it's now a real, grown-up restaurant. I came in for brunch on a freezing February Wednesday morning. I had Turkish eggs which were suitably spicy and, in fairness, very good. I would have preferred a more traditional breakfast but this was as close as I could get which is my way of saying the trendy, hipster breakfast menu - crushed avocados anyone? - is not really to my taste but that's more my issue than theirs.
