Very knowledgeable staff, good parking, they're attached to a home brew store, and are dog friendly inside and out. Outdoor has a good amount of seating; while inside is more limited, but still a good amount. Pretty much the same beer on tap as the arcade, with the addition of one or two beers. I totally get that they approach beer differently than most places, but it's just not my style. I couldn't find even one beer I wanted to drink. If you like sours and seltzer-like drinks, then you'll like it here. They do have a very good IPA but the alcohol level is so high, it's not an easy one to drink. Service and locals totally made this an excellent experience. It was my birthday. We sat inside at a cute little nook with a view of the crowd outside. This is definitely a locals spot with many showing up after work for a beer and a chat. We did grab dinner from the food truck outside and it looks like they usually have some options. Lots of street parking and a little bit of space left to park in their lot. Picnic tables in the shade outside were a favorite hangout spot. read more

This was my first time to Broomtail, but I've been to the Sour Barn (which they run) a few times. It's located in an industrial area, like many breweries are. The day we visited was their anniversary, so there were a decent number of people there. The bartender was friendly and patient. I went with a raspberry sour which had just the right amount of tartness. As part of the celebration, employees had brought in a bunch of food so you could get hot dogs and pork brisket, plus numerous sides. From what I saw there was virtually no indoor seating, but several tables were available outdoors. It had a very chill vibe and the demographic seemed a little older while we were there. Broomtail is one of my favorite breweries in Wilmington, especially because of the super local vibes at this location. It's located in an industrial park, and it feels a little home-y inside (not like some corporate big brewery with no personality). If you visit regularly, you'll start noticing some familiar faces between the staff and patrons alike. They are super dog friendly here and their tap selection here rotates pretty regularly. I'm a big fan of their beer "Bee Kind" (a Kolsch) and the Elysium is great too. read more

My first craft brewery in NC and I loved it. Everyone was so nice and welcoming and the beers were awesome! Sampled everything and brought myself a special bottle and got a free glass. Stop number two for my beer drinkin' crew. Man - everybody in this tap room is so friendly. Had some good conversation and was given some good ideas about where to try first. Very homey feel for being in an industrial park - a couple of the rooms feel like their in your house. So we each tried something different - Hay Bale Cream Ale, Jus Sayin' DIPA and Blurred Lines Collaboration IPA. No surprise that the Blurred Lines was my favorite. Many previous reviews give a shout out to the Jus Sayin', which I now officially echo here. I also tried the Oryza Sativa Rice IPA - wow - so different. The flavor imparted by the rice really cuts through and takes over - still trying to figure out that one but Kudos for having the cohones to "go off the reservation" on that one. Barry was there and talked lovingly about his beers plus the labor and ingredients that went into them. Great guy! He's also got a sour barn nearby as well. Check'em out! read more

I have been to Wilmington several times, and like to try the variety of breweries that the city offers. I had mainly visited those downtown in the past, and I thought they were fair/good. I visited Broomtail this past trip, and I must say that this place is excellent! I sampled several of their beers, and all tasted great! No bitterness or off flavors at all. Their IPAs taste very fresh, and I wish I had this place closer to home. You can find all types of varieties here, from brown ale to IPA to sours. All very good. The location is in a business park, but they made the spot very cozy and you have a warm comfortable feel when you are there. The owner and staff are some of the friendliest I've seen. They truly want you to be happy and are so proud of their good creations. There is a tight-knit following of this place, and I encourage anyone who is looking for a good brewery in Wilmington to check this place out. A must-visit! I will be back! read more

Broomtail is tucked away in a little industrial area off of Highway 17 in North Wilmington and is a smaller facility with really good beers. I got a sampler of four beers (3 IPA's and a brown ale). This was my kind of place, good IPA's and a relaxed atmosphere. Broomtail was really friendly and accommodating. The staff working that day definitely made me feel like I was welcome. It was also nice that I bumped into a few folks from the Outer Banks too. Don't let the location or storefront fool you, this place has some quality beers. read more

The Extra Stout I tried was very good. We watched a little of The Olympics on 2 TVs. CC was enabled so we could make conversation. Jerry was helpful and hospitable. Will definitely be back. Went here specifically because we saw the good reviews. Cute little hole in the wall place, has a few games and such but overall very small. Limited outdoor and indoor seated. We're usually very generous with how we rate places, knowing timing can be different. The beers we had were sub-par, rated on Untappd. Nothing that blew your hair back. Worst part was a group of guys that were loud and disrespectful to other customers, to the point that others walked out. The bar tender seemed to be friends with these guys as he let them behind the bar, laughed, hugged, and made perverted jokes with them. Honestly, very turned off by the overall atmosphere. Wow. We loved the vibe and beer at Sour Barn so we went to their brewery just down the street. They had even more beers on tap, canned, and bottled. All of them were fantastic. All of their beer is brewed on the spot and they are always coming up w/ something new. Don't come in there thinking you're going to get your usual fare that's watered down and your paying for the name. No, you're going to find great beer and great atmosphere.
