The space, equal parts cozy taproom and shaded beer garden, feels both vibrant and homey. If you're reading this and asking yourself what is the region's native icon, the Venus Flytrap - we have catching up to do. Read history below the review. The mood was easygoing. Two staff members, juggling orders with grace, kept the taps moving and the vibe relaxed. We had the Oatmeal Porter (dark, smooth, layered with chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel) And the Brook's Mulberry Lemonade (a blend of house-made lemonade and beer, fermented with mulberries hand-picked from Brook's garden). Both were super delicious. Flytrap Brewing sits tucked in a quiet Wilmington neighborhood, and it feels like it belongs there. The thoughtful drinks, easy crowd, and unpretentious energy, we will for sure be back! History: The Venus flytrap, scientifically known as Dionaea muscipula, is native to a limited area of the southeastern United States. ONLY naturally growing specifically within a 75-mile radius of Wilmington, North Carolina. This area includes parts of both North and South Carolina. The plant was first discovered in the late 1700s. So respected in North Carolina, removing or poaching them from public lands or private property is a Felony. Purchasing them or growing yourself is praised.

With twinkly lights and cozy corners to sit in, it's also a great place for a date night. The server was friendly, hospitable, had great recommendations, and was happy to let me try a few beers before I decided what I liked. The free popcorn was a nice touch too. It's a bit off the beaten path, but not a long walk from the River Walk or Main Street at all. I did miss the bigger fly traps in the back, and the ones inside were smaller (and a different kind) than I was expecting. Still, this place has a really cool, chill, and fun vibe. Highly, highly recommend.

I went to Front Street Brewery and got the American Burger. That was a great decision. I had a very long road trip to get to this destination and I wanted to grab something to assist me unwind. I grabbed the FSB Old Fashioned to start and the American Burger to go. The Old Fashioned was amazing! The cocktail brought some serious flavor! They boast about having the largest selection of whiskey and from the looks of the bar, I believe them! The burger was nothing short of spectacular. It was two smash burgers with American cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions, and tomatoes. The price was great for the flavor that I received. This was a great way to start my trip. I cannot wait to come back and try something else on the menu!

We had about a 45 minute wait for a table of 6 which was understandable as it was pretty busy at noon on Thursday. Drinks came quickly as we were seated. Appetizers were hit or miss. Fried pickles were surprisingly good and I'm not a pickle fan. However the pretzel was disappointing. Food was comparable to what you would find at other pubs. My smash burger was fantastic. We did have one issue where the vegetarian in our group got served a chicken bowl by accident. However they quickly remedied it and got him what he ordered ASAP. Unfortunately we were mostly done by the time his food came. They did comp the food that was late which was nice. If you are looking for a good bite and tasty beer then I would totally recommend this place.

OYE review: had a blast on the Port City Brew Bus getting to know some other local Wilmington…read moreYelpers. Thanks for setting everything up, Erynn! The Brew Bus goal: to venture and promote local Wilmington breweries and teach beer drinkers (novice or well learned) the history and flavor profile of the beer staples. They offer open tours for booking online or private tours by pre-booking. The private tours can accommodate up to 14 people and they will customize to your desires. You can also bring your choice of food onto the bus for your party. The pros: -a wide variety of tastings both on the bus and at breweries -- meaning non beer lovers can actually find stuff they enjoy! -funny and knowledgeable tour guides. These guys make being a beer geek look totally freakin awesome -they know the owners of the breweries and their stories which gives you some insight to their brewing process and flavor passions Tips: They don't have food, so eat or bring some snackies! Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to explore Wilmington and discover their beer preferences.

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy…read more This business is simply genius. The men behind Port City Brew Bus are capitalizing on the local growing craft beer and bottle shop industry by literally driving consumers to drink locally. This tour is a must for any beer lover. It's the perfect for visiting guests or those who are interested in home brewing. Each stop on the tour offers something unique; prepare to be buzzed and happy. We started the tour at Bombers Beverage. If you haven't checked out this bottle shop you should. The selection and customer service is unmatched. I will never forget the beer bloody marry I had here earlier this year. While at Bombers we tasted a few different types of beer while our tour guide Jeremy gave us a beer lesson. The second stop was Waterline Brewing. Unfortunately this brewery is not yet open to the public therefore we just the outside and talked a bit about their upcoming opening. Nest we traveled to the #BAD (Brooklyn arts district) side of town to visit Fly Trap Brewing. This brewery is unique because they only brew for in house so if you want to try one of their awesome brews you must visit the brewery. One conversation with the owners, Mike and Emily, and you will be a regular for life. After, we ventured toward the center of town to check out Wilmington Home Brew Supply. This business is the only place in town that sells home brew equipment. They have everything to accommodate your home brewing project and if they don't they will get it. New to home-brew? They offer free classes and demonstrations. The last stop on the tour was Broom Tail Brewery. This small brewery is located in an industrial park on the north side of town. They specialize in craft beer with un traditional flavor profiles. I have had their lemon grass ginger whit multiple times at Catch and it is amazing. We were fortunate to arrive during a shrimp boil, which was a wonderful end to an afternoon of beer. The best part about the emerging beer/wine market? It's community based. Some brewery owners are even related and easy it's to find local beer on draft at other breweries even in the same neighborhood. For example Iron Clad carries craft draft from both Front Street Brewery and Broom Tail. This tour is save and simple way to drink local. Great for groups, holiday parties and adventure.
