Came here for a wedding welcome party and the place was great! Very friendly staff even amid the large group of people. The place was very clean and welcoming to large crowds. They had someone playing live music and it sounded great so that's a huge plus. Only 4 stars because the seating outside on their patio was covered and it would have been nice to sit outside. It is a double layered brewery, which is great when live music is playing. The bartenders were attentive, the only aspect that was a little bit weird to me: I couldn't figure out which age group this bar was meant for I saw people from their 20s to their 70s. Finally got to check this spot off my ILM brewery list. It's a cool looking spot that was apparently an old fire station back in the day. Now there is a boat built on the inside that frames the upstairs seating. They've got a good amount of chairs and tables on the first and second levels. On Sundays they do pitchers for $15. I got a coffee stout while my friends chose the peach wheat beer. The bartenders were friendly and helpful. See if you can spot the small hearts and stars outside the building! read more

I know that Blackbeard was a horrible person, but his story is exciting! I use to teach about NC pirates when I taught 4th grade, and Edward was the most terrifying! I had very high expectations for this brewery seeing as it uses his name and flag. Everything was great! The design and decor was perfect, the service was friendly and fun, and the beer was so good! Every single one of the beers was great! We even brought a couple home to enjoy. They have a great outdoor patio area, a large upstairs, and their main area is also large. They offer apps from their fridge, like salami and cheese. The atmosphere was great. They're also being very careful during Covid, and we didn't worry while there. read more

This place has great beer and is a chill place to spend time with friends. I've been here at least ten times and have had a positive experience each time I've visited. The large curved bar is well-staffed, and usually someone offers to take my drink order almost immediately after I walk up. My favorite beer here is the Teaches Peaches. I hate peaches and love this beer. It is light, wheaty, has no discern hoppy taste, and is very easy to drink. They do seasonal beers and there's always something new to try. I'm not the biggest fan of most of their other beers, so I tend to stick to what I know I like. There isn't much seating downstairs. So you have to go upstairs or outside to seat a group in most cases. There are large picnic table style tables to sit at up there. You can also rent out the space for events. I went to an election night party up there and the space was good. I like to sit outside if the weather is good. There is comfy outdoor seating, fire pits, and cornhole. I absolutely love the atmosphere of Edward Teach. During the holiday season, they go ALL out. Everything is so festive, from their sign outside to the upstairs lounge area. On top of that, the staff are very inviting and nice. We were greeted right away and served very quickly, even with it being a rather busy Tuesday. Now what is most important is the beer is DELICIOUS. I had a Rose Sour and it was AMAZING. Additionally, their pilsner is always a good choice or Teaches Peaches. Lastly, the location is really nice also. Edward Teach is set close to downtown but far enough away that the hustle and bustle is not too bad and you can find parking pretty easily. read more

This brewery was awesome. Located in an old firehouse, they bring a great story to their design with the Edward Teach theme. Make sure to check out upstairs. We got to enjoy live music in a Friday night and they had a food truck out front. Pin your hometown or current hometown on the map and check out where everyone visiting has come from. I love this brewery. Plenty of indoor space, an upstairs area, and tons of outdoor seating. Went here last night after a run and enjoyed $3 pints. Musical trivia was going on too. Bartenders are attentive, beer is incredibly solid. It's rare that you can find a Black Lager (Schwarzbier for us German folk) but they brew it and brew it well. We also love that we can stop by here and get their own Edward Teach Devil's IPA in a 6 pack to go (highly recommend). They have indoor, outdoor, and upstairs seating. I'm not sure what nights they do it but there is live music sometimes at night and sometimes they even have a food truck that is outside. Love when they do this! The staff is super friendly, attentive and all around great experience. You can also bring food from other restaurants to sit and enjoy while you enjoy a drink that you just ordered. Oh and another great experience here is that you can bring your dog! I love walking through both inside and outside seeing all of the dogs big and small enjoying their time also. BEAUTIFUL brewery tucked a little out of the way in Wilmington. The space is really lovely....think modern pirate ship. They have an awesome patio with fire pits, music, and cornhole. Edward Teach has everything it needs to be hip, trendy, and popular....except the beer. While the beer here is okay, I didn't really find anything I loved (I know that's subjective). First time here it's was a Sunday Labor Day weekend and we are hoping that our experience will be different next time because the bartender who was diffidently juiced out was just not nice and not friendly at all. The beer was really good however they were out of pretzels and the it was like the bartender was just annoyed if we asked him any questions about the different errs they have. Was down for my sisters wedding and this place was where my, new brother in-law chose to get the beer for the reception. Went for a tasting and the beer is lovely full flavored and tasty. I like dark beers and they had two I tried and they were great a, Black Spot Black lager, was smooth and dark but not bitter, the Gibbet Baltic porter was even better with lovely dark chocolate flavor. This brewery needs new bartenders ASAP. Absolute worst customer service, lack of professionalism and MASSIVE ATTITUDES is all you'll get here. When i bring a group of 20+ WELL BEHAVED, POLITE people in and the bartenders give everyone huge attitudes because they actually have to do a little bit of work (pouring a few drinks??) instead of standing around talking to their friends..... no thanks. We will spend our money elsewhere. The short bartender with fluffy beard, tattoos and black finger nail polish? Bro needs a new career because he is NOT cut out to be working with the public. He must not realize his tips come from how he speaks to people. This "ringleader" as he referred to me after moving a few tables (also already planned to move them back) will not be bringing my group back in there to give him any more money. This place is 5 stars worthy. I went here Saturday afternoon and there was a decent size crowd inside but despite all the people I was helped right away. I ordered a flight so I could try all the beers. I usually do not like all the beers at one brewery but these had such a good flavor and high abvs! My mom is not a beer drinker so they had wine for her to drink which was awesome. On the inside this place is huge and the outside of the building has a cool city feel. Inside they have plenty of seating and tables and even stairs to an upstairs. They also have seating outside with nice red couches and chairs which I loved. Edward Teach was our second to last stop on our eleven brewery tour of Wilmington. Many places said make sure you check out the new place, Edward Teach, so we did. Even after a bit of beer burn out we found that they did indeed have some solid choices. First, the building is just plain cool - such a neat retro architectural feel - and that's just the outside. Once inside the ship theme is carried throughout with a two level taproom in the shape of a ships keel. Our flight consisted of Scallywag Session IPA, Devil's Son IPA, Black Spot Black Lager and their Peach Wheat. I was so happy to have the black lager - I think black lagers and IPAs are underrepresented and just plain delicious - this one was (delicious that is)! The Devil's Son was a really well balanced IPA - that one was a winner and we ended up with full pints! Great friendly staff - water glasses for everyone that get refilled often - cool tap room (the AC and the looks) and great beer! read more

"Born at Sea, Brewed Ashore." Originally a firehouse, this historic building was renovated into a beautiful, pirate and Blackbeard themed brewery. They even built the bar in the shape of a pirate ship. So cool! Staff here has always been super friendly. I've liked all their beers, but their Cutlass Lager and Teaches Peaches remain two of my favorites in all of Wilmington. They have a few appetizer items if you're hungry, but also the occasional food truck. Dogs allowed inside. Sometimes some live music.
