Dr. Yolanda Scheer has taken care of my family's vision for over 10 years. She is extremely thorough and really understands how medical conditions also affect the eyes. Her experience with pediatrics and working with athletes are prime reasons why she's especially well suited to monitor my children's vision. The staff at the practice are competent and are do try to help ensure that you understand what insurance covers and your financial liability. We will continue to make the trek to Stockton from the Peninsula every year for our annual eye exams under Dr. Scheer. read more

The office staff seems disorganized and hardly ever answer phones so it's difficult to get someone on The line..I was twice rescheduled and they did not give me the dr I requested/scheduled with. Nothing but great things to say about Dr. Laurel. I've been seeing her for about 4 years and she's always been very professional and helpful. She's always helpful to double check/let me know how much my coverage is when debating of getting contacts or glasses. As well as letting me know how my vision has changed since the last time I saw her, even if it's minor just to make sure I know everything. My fave thing about her is the fact that she actually takes the time to know you and even remembers what you last chatted about even though it's been a year. I have worn glasses since I was 7, and had my first appointment at this practice this week. All the staff here are very helpful and kind. I saw Dr. Girn who was very thorough, knowledgeable, kind and really the best of the best. My next point of contact was Honey, who is an optician. Honey was so sweet and very helpful in helping me pick out a pair of glasses. I have a high prescription so that means it's hard to find the right place who has a variety of options to make lenses thinner at a reasonable cost(with opticians who actually care). I went in to pick up some contacts and get my glasses adjusted. Paid for my contacts and had a seat for my adjustment. I was kindly greeted by Jackie. She asked me how she could help out and I let her know that my frames continuously slide down my nose. She took my frames to the back and came back with these tiny nose grips for my glasses. They made all the difference. I absolutely love the feel of my glasses now. Than you for your great service Jackie! First time here. Had an appointment with Dr Nguyen. Great doctor and explained everything very well and listened to any questions and concerns I had. (5 stars for an awesome optometrist). The office staff was okay. The lady who helped me with my glasses seemed irritated when I had asked her some questions (never introduced herself, and I'm not going out of my way to ask for her name. It's a "medical" office, always introduce yourself to your client/patient). Ordered my glasses from here, but took my contact prescription some where else. Dr. Skinner is the only optometrist that I trust with my eye care. He is always willing to listen and suggest the best steps needed in maintaining eye care. I have been a patient of his since I was a child and now as a adult. Dr. Skinner has and is very friendly and willing to answer any questions I may have or about the latest technology that can possibly see the changes in my eyes or if contacts are a option. The office itself, it is clean and has a pretty good selection of frames. There are also financing options, if needed that is. Customer service is sometimes excellent and other times just okay, but that is on the individual person that may be assisting you or just overall working in the office that can improve on their work ethic. I have been going to Brookside Optometric for the past 5 years. I always walk into a friendly face and am greeted with a smile. I have a retinal screening done and am treated carefully and advised at all times what is going on. then I get to see Dr. Scheer, she is amazing. She always is very informative and will ask questions, mostly on how am I doing and also always ask about my family. She truly cares. If there is anything that I could see better it would be that when my glasses come in that they would call and let me know. I'm always switching insurance groups for some reason and they've ALWAYS accepted each one. So the chances of getting your particular insurance approved is pretty high. Dr. Skinner is this pretty chill white guy. Reallllyyyy nice. He always tries to make small talk to cover the awkwardness. I'm always asking how much money he makes to see if he'll ever tell me, LOL. Good guy, good doctor. Dr.Chan is this petite asian lady. Super motherly-like. It's cute though. I visited her like 5 times in 1 month and I always left my contacts at home. Today was my very first visit to Brookside Optometric and WOW! I saw Dr. Rosemary Melrose and she was fantastic! She was so professional but at the same time made me feel comfortable-like I had known her for years. She gave me a lot of valuable information and was very thorough with my exam. She is just wonderful! I was also very impressed with the woman that helped me pick out my glasses. I usually take someone with me to choose glasses so I can get a sencond opinion, so I was really nervous about choosing glasses by myself today. Fortunately I received wonderful assistance from one of the employees there. She was so helpful picking out what glasses looked best for my face and I didn't once feel rushed. Dr. Melrose (the husband) is awesome! I've been going to this particular office for the past 2 years through a family members referral and loved it instantly! Dr. Melrose really takes his time to listen to your concerns and makes time to have little conversations with you during the exam. He's very nice, thorough, and informative. The office itself is nice too. They have their own glasses section with tons of options and one tech person dedicating their time with you while you choose a pair of glasses! My only suggestion would be when you're waiting on a product, be proactive and call the office. My new glasses sat at the office for two weeks! I never received a call. Been here for 6 years. Really great place. I've been with many of the Doctors they have there. Mrs. Tran, both Dr. Melrose, really great people. My last appointment was with Dr. Melrose (Husband), really great guy, sat and chatted about the past and normal life situations. I had a wonderful time there. Great glass selections, and the staffs who helped out for sizing and decision making were a little too pushy, the guy didn't really give me my alone time when I needed it, but I totally understand he was just doing his job of assistance. The staffs at front desk are always helpful to their fullest, I've been reminded multiple times over the phone call about my upcoming appointments. I always appreciated that because of my hectic schedule, it's nice knowing the staffs will "alarm" me. I am sadden that I will be moving out of the state and hopefully will find another place like this. Side note, Asian people, they have a small selection of "Asian Fit" glasses for people with no bridge nose/flat nose. They feel amazing but the style and designs arn't that great. I've been a patient of Dr. Hsu's for over twenty years. She is a wonderful doctor and so nice. The staff is patient and so helpful. I hardly wait in the waiting room when it's time for my appointment. The only thing that is a bit lame is whenever I get a random call from the office, reminding me how I haven't been in in a while. In the past, I didn't have vision insurance and/or I was unemployed which I told the person that called that I was unemployed and I would call them when I wanted to make an appointment. I have been coming to this location on and off, but I have been Dr. Skinner's patient since he was on Pacific Ave. and I was little. Dr. Skinner is one of the best in my opinion. He has the patience to listen and make you feel comfortable. Not only that, he makes sure that you get the best care for your eyes and will even double check or go out of his way to get you an appointment with a specialist if needed. He is easy to talk to and will give recommendations on if contacts are right for you or not. As for the staff, they are not so bad either. Calling to make a appointment is good, you don't have to be on hold too long or worry about them hanging up on you and they are good about calling and reminding you of an appointment or when your glasses have arrived. They do have a good selection of glasses and sunglasses as well. Sometimes the girls that are helping out in the selection process or the fitting, can be a bit off putting attitude wise, depending or you can feel rushed as you browse. BUT it's a minor thing to brush aside as they will do what as needed. As long as he is in practice, Dr. Skinner will be the one to continue to take care of my eyes. read more

This was my first visit at the clinic. The staff was very courteous and the doctor was wonderful. The office was very clean. It was a last minute booked appointment as I did not want to go to urgent care for a sudden severe eye pain. Dr. Ker was very professional. He exam my eyes in carefully and explained in detail of my condition, and what I need to do for self care and was very re-assuring that I was going to be ok which made me feel better already. The entire process took 1.5 hours! I scheduled an appointment and was called in shortly. I had the eye exams performed within 15 minutes but I sat in the office waiting for the doctor for nearly 30 minutes! The doc took a look at my eyes and see what lenses I needed. Then I was sent to pick out frames. Then to pay. All in all, I had to see 5 different people to complete this process (1. Reception 2. Eye exam 3. Doctor 5. Frame fitting 6. Payment). I just wish the doctor had not waited so long to see me considering I had an appointment. Charting in the iPad took a majority of his time when he was in the office with me. By the time I was done, my husband was losing his head with the two toddlers and newborn in the car. Also, no one seem too thrilled to be working so late. I have had my share of mishaps here... but they have made them right in the LONG run. Brookside has a great selection of frames to choose from, all name brands. I take forever to find my frames... like over an hour, every time, and I have never felt rushed in the least bit. I love that. The doctors use state of the art equipment. They are able to check the pressure of your eye without using the puff of air in your eye. I personally cannot do the puff of air... the anticipation of it messes me up, so this alone is a good reason for me to keep coming here. I've been going to Brookside Optometric Group for a few years. I haven't had any problems up till now. I've had to go back three (3) times for them to get my prescription correct. I get my glasses and give about a week to fully adjust. My vision is still blurry. I requested to change doctors and they stated, "you can change doctors but, there will be an out of pocket cost." They want you to see the same doctor until they get it right. Horrible policy!!! If the doctor can't get it right the first or second time it's time to switch doctors. I'm getting headaches and my vision is blurry. If something happens due to my vision they are liable! Word of mouth goes along way! read more

The Doctors are very pleasant. I started back in the early 90's with Dr. Hisaka and then later had Dr. Fuji. I think very highly of both of these men. They were kind, considerate, patient and very skilled and experienced. I wish I could say the same for the staff. I've been going there for nearly 22 years and I had to cancel one appointment due to an emergency and they dinged me for a $25.00 charge. I tell the rude and unpleasant lady I had the misfortune to be conversing with that they have just lost a customer because of this and I get the "I couldn't care less" attitude. On top of that they keep calling me every year to schedule an appointment and I remind them of this story and still don't get a hint of regret for treating a customer like garbage. If any of the terribly unprofessional staff happen to be reading this, which is assuming they even care what a customer might think, then be forewarned: Call me again next year and I am going to sue you for harassment....don't worry, the suit will only be for $25.00. Speaking of which, I sure hope that $25.00 came in handy cause it is the last cent you will see from me. Doesn't seem like a fair trade considering how much money I spent there over the last 20+ years. But who am I to judge, just a lowly customer here. By the way, in reading the other reviews here it looks like there are others who have had similar experiences with the staff being rude and acting generally inconvenienced by us folks who...what is that we do again...oh yeah...Give them MONEY! The Doctors, who I have nothing but good things to say about, should take that into consideration when it comes to hiring and firing.
