I had my first appt exam on the 14th of August 2020. I picked them because thry have 5 stars. I was very pleased and impressed how they handle the COVID-19 guidelines. When I went in I was greeted in a nice friendly professional manner. I only had to wait about 10 minutes to go in and have my eye exam. The man that took me in was really nice. I forgot his name. He was Asian. My doctor was Dr. Wong. She was really nice and made you feel at home. All of the people here are very nice and a peaceful atmosphere. When I went to pick out my glasses I had Amy. She was really nice and patient. I love my glasses. Took a couple weeks to get them but I'm really satisfied and will definitely go back for my next visit. I had my first appointment at Brookside Optometric Group. I am so happy that I chose this group. The staff was so nice and kind and was constantly cleaning chairs and everything else anyone touched. They definitely have COVID guidelines in place. Even though I was early for my appointment, I only waited a couple of minutes before they took me in for tests by the nicest man. Then right away Dr. Laurel took me to her room. I am so pleased to finally get answers to questions I could not get elsewhere. She was so professional and yet personable. The front staff is so rude every time I come here. They always have a bad attitude. When I arrived at 8:05 with my appointment at 8:00 they said they no longer have a grace period but never once let their patients know. Long long overdue for a review here. Just decided to review these guys as I just made a recent eye exam this past week and picking up my annual contact lens supply soon, and then glasses later. When I got my first pair of glasses in the 7th grade, it was here. And have been goin since (then there was a couple to a several year gap was I didn't have a full time job with VSP benefits). Anywho, some optometrists come and go, but from then up until now, I have seen a total of four. And they all have been wonderful. Recently in the past couple of years I had the pleasure of having my exam with both the Melrose Doctors (Mrs. just this year) and they're kind, loving people that you can just even talk about anything in particular and they will listen. The staff is kind and professional, from the preliminary testing (eye dialation or I prefer to just shell out extra for the optoscan), to the showroom of glasses which they have a decent selection. I chose a secondary Ray Ban prescription frame that I liked but they have them in a brown tortoise, and I prefer black, so I had ordered the black pair which could take some time. As long as I'm living within central valleys boundaries, I'll only go here. They're conveniently open most weekends too (Saturdays). read more

Recently he had a pressing need to get into get a new exam in between work assignments and Ann went out if her way monitoring for cancellations. This morning I woke with a serious eye issue. Being a new patient I was not sure they would be able to see me. However, the staff usher me right in. Dr John Fujii and staff were throughout caring , understanding . I knew I was in the right place. Without hesitation Dr Fujii knew I needed to be referred to Ophthalmologist. Referred to Delta Eye. Services are just not the same... I have been a patient of for almost 20yrs... So l last seen Dr Vanover for my exam (Oct 2018). But because my insurance would not kick in till after 2019 for a new pair of glasses I had to wait or pay out of pocket for the full amount, which at Brookside, can get pricey. On May 14 I went into Brookside to pick out a frame and order a pair of glasses. The young technician helping me pulled up my benefits and I proceeded to pick out a frame and added in some extra upgrades. She asked me if I wanted the Progressive lenses to let me see near and far. I let her know several times that I only wanted reader glasses. I only really need for work. I do not have a big problem seeing far but can't read my computer screen or documents. She did her measurements and before the order was placed, I had to pay in full any overages not covered by my insurance. Fine, order paid in full. Was told could take 2-3 weeks for them to get back from lab. On May 28 I went to pick up my glasses however I could not see out of them! I had to tilt my chin up to be able to read anything! Something not right but the young technician helping me wanted me to take them home and "try and get used to them." No, not going to happen. I have NEVER had to tilt my head up to be able to see out of my glasses so I'm sorry there is something not right with these glasses. She says she cannot do anything until I see the Doctor. Ok, Appt scheduled for June 6, 2019 I go in to see Dr Vanover on June 6. He checks the glasses against the RX he had on file and says it is fine but I tell him I cannot see right. (Problem #1) the glasses were ordered as progressive and not as single vision. I put the glasses on and show him that I CANNOT READ anything unless I tilt my chin up and use a SUPER SMALL part of the bottom of lenses to read. I had told the technician helping me that I only wanted reading glasses and not progressive! Even with that being said, He admitted (Problem #2) that the measurements were off and that he would have the glasses sent back with correct measurements and as single vision and not progressive lenses. They would call me again when glasses were in. Had not heard from anyone so on June 28 I called to see if glasses were in and was told they had gotten a shipment in and that they could be in those boxes, best to call back on Monday if I do not get a phone call over the weekend. I call on Monday, July 1, 2019, and was told that glasses did come in BUT (Problem #3) they were wrong again and would have to be sent back. (Problem #4) Will take another 2-3 weeks to get back. I am sorry but this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! I said "UH, NO!!!" and asked for a manager. There was no offer to rush my case until I explained everything to her. It's very hard to remain calm when dealing with such circumstances. I asked for a RUSH on this case and at this point let them know if my glasses were not back or couldn't be back in a week then I would prefer to have a refund. The manager was going to check with the lab and call me back. She called and let me know that they would send back to lab and ask to have them rushed. Glasses were supposed to be back by end of week. I got a message from Brookside on Saturday saying "Order was shipped on June 5 and glasses should be in on Monday" SMH My Husband received a call on HIS cell phone on Monday July 8, 2019 letting him know my glasses were in. Why they chose to call my husbands, I have no clue! On Tuesday July 9, 2019 I went in to pick up glasses ... Still not seeing right! (I'm sorry, I lost track already with how many problems) They kept taking glasses to back for "adjustments" to see if they could get it any better. A manager comes over to "help" and takes the glasses back again to re-check measurements. Brings them to me with marks on them and asks me to put them on again and measures again. It is clear to me that the measurements are defiantly off again because the marks that should be centered to my eyes are WAY OFF but she continues to try and adjust the nose pads and arms around my ears... trying to make the glasses fit and then asks me if they are any better. No they are not! I paid up front for the overages, apart from what my ins paid. I don't think I expect too much for a good pair of glasses that I needed for work! Still they wanted me to "take them and try them out" Uhhh, NO! I'm tired and at this point I'm not even mad anymore... "If you have to send them back to lab, then send them back to lab. I just want them done right." Manger will have to talk to Doctor; He may want to see me again. Dr is off today, She is supposed to call me back the next day (July 10)... no call. She calls me back on July 11, 2019 telling me she wasn't able to talk to doctor until end of day yesterday and that is why she did not call me back the next day as she said she would. But, Doctor does want to see me again.... BUT, he is leaving TODAY on vacation. I AM DONE...REFUND!!! read more

Super Expensive!!! the doctors are very good however a lot of the frames even with the so called discount are extremely marked up. After leaving there I looked up the exact pair of Nike and Prada frames sold at Brookside Optometric group and the Nike glasses were priced over $100.00 more then Walmart the Prada glasses were over $200.00 more! I really wanted to like this place. Dr. Fuji gave the most in-depth eye exam I've ever had. I feel like they really care about your eye health and not just getting you in and out with new glasses. My issue comes from the glasses themselves. In the past I've just gone to Costco and been a cash-pay. Since my husband got good optical insurance through work at a really low price... I figured it was a great opportunity to save some money and go to a real optometric shop. Well the appointment and everything went well. I picked out frames and lenses. Got upgrades and everything for what I needed. My co-pay and all is basically what I ended up paying for at Costco in the past... well there went my idea at saving money. Well I go to pick them up a week or so later. They fit well and all seems good. Then I drive off. I start to notice my vision distance is not as good as it was earlier... so I put my old glasses back on and my distance vision is improved. So I try swapping them a few times and even try to keep the new ones on to see if my eyes adjust to them... nope. I called and was told to bring them in. I took them and my old glasses in. They tested them to make sure they were the right scrip and all. They set me up with another appointment to re-check the glasses. They decide to order the old scrip I originally came in with. So you'd think this would be the end of the story? Nope. I stopped in today to get my new glasses, again. They feel like they are improved from where they were last time... but swapping out with my old ones and I can still see distance wise better with my old ones. Seems odd that my old Costco glasses give me better vision than brand new ones from a place that specializes in eye glasses. So I'm stuck with a very expensive pair of backup glasses now. Gotta wait until next year's benefits kick in and hope Costco takes my vision insurance, hell I'll even pay full price if I have to. Just really, really disappointed in the experience... read more

I came for a routine eye appointment and was seen by Dr. Nguyen. He was extremely affable and easy to talk to. He answered my questions in a really easy to understand way and was extremely thorough. Had some problems with my eye and was able to get an appointment for the next day to see Dr. Girn. He was able to find and explain the problem I was having in a way that I was able to understand. When the symptoms changed a week later, I called and left a message for Dr. Girn. He called me back within the hour. As the office was closing soon, he couldn't see me that day, but he made arrangements to see me the next morning, which was a Saturday and his day off. During my visit he was again able to explain everything to me. He made arrangements for me to see a retinal specialist the same day and get everything taken care of. He even made sure I had a way to reach him to give him an update and in case anything else went wrong. Dr. Girn is an excellent example of a doctor that truly cares for his patients. read more

Best optometric group, hands down. I've been going to various optometrists for about 15 years and Brookside Optometric Group is definitely my favorite. Their employees are very friendly and welcoming. As for COVID-19 protocols, they have a certain capacity allowed and they take temperatures prior to entering the building. I had Dr. Scheer and she's definitely the best optometrist I've ever met! I typically feel rushed by other optometrists. However, Dr. Scheer is the complete opposite. She took her time to answer my questions and even gave me lots of tips about eye contacts that I was unaware of (even after wearing them for almost 10 years). I just had my first visit 2 days ago and I must say it was an amazing experience! I had initially walked in to see what I needed to do to become a new patient and set up an appointment. Upon entry, I was immediately welcomed by the staff. They were all extremely friendly and very patient. They were able to schedule an appointment for me within the hour. The facility was very clean and inviting. They seemed to have state of the art equipment and were very conscientious about making sure that everything was properly sanitized. Selena was the first person I interacted with. She was very nice and made me feel comfortable throughout the process. My appointment was with Dr Melrose and he was absolutely fabulous! He was very personable and explained everything in a manner that I could understand. I would highly recommend that everyone see him! He makes the process pleasant and easy. Honey helped me with the lens and frame selection. She went over all of the pricing options with me and did not make me feel as if I were being sold anything. Overall, everyone here is extremely professional and the facility is super clean with easy parking. I will definitely go back! read more

I've been going to Dr. Hisaka since I was a little kid and can vouch that he DOES take you in for a session to talk to you about your life since the last appointment. I've been trying to find a new optometrist since moving from Tracy after being with my prior provider for over 10 years. I can honestly say I will stay with this practice, and Dr. Skinner! The receptionists were efficient and courteous, and the wait was not long at all. I was able to fill out the paperwork while my insurance was verified. They were gracious enough to squeeze me in for a VERY last minute appointment, and I am SO thankful. The exam was extremely thorough, and I appreciate that Dr. Skinner took his time, even though I'm sure I was one of his last appointments of the day. He was very kind, friendly, and professional. I enjoyed the casual chat, and it made my exam seem like it flew by. The care from start to finish was top notch! They had a very large selection of frames, actually larger than my previous provider. Before I went to browse freely, I had a brief explanation of how my benefits are applied to specific frames. I picked out 3 options, and she even assisted me with making my final selection. Not only that, but she checked online to see if they had another color option, and they had the perfect blue I wanted! She measured several times to make sure my lenses/frames would sit correctly, then I was off to pay my out of pocket amounts. Payment was easy and quick! I'm amazed at the quality of service here, especially considering not all healthcare related businesses operate that way anymore. I went into the office on 03/09/18 to place the order for my glasses. The young lady that took my order advised me of 1-2 weeks turnaround time. I called in on 03/23/18 to check on my order; I was told by a young lady that the status came up as "in process". I was then advised that orders can take up to 3 weeks to be completed and to call them back if I had not heard from them by Monday the 26th. I called on 03/27/18 to check status; again I was told that the order status was "in process" and I was now advised that some orders are sent over-seas for processing and that there was no way for them to be able to tell if my order was one of them. The young lady that answered the phone advised me that she would place a note for the purchaser to look into the order and that I would be contacted with further information. 03/28/18, I received a call from a young lady named Juanita (very nice and professional). Juanita advised that she anticipated the order to be done "more towards the end of this week (3rd week), or the beginning of next (4th week)" and that she would reach out to me once the glasses had arrived; but no commitment was given on a date. at this moment, I'm in limbo. I don't know what to do now. I'm frustrated with the whole situation... don't get me wrong, this review is not about the staff; everyone that I have spoken to from Dr. Loo to the receptionists all the way to the ladies that handle the payments; they've all been great! Nice, professional, and courteous. I just feel like ive been over-promised and under-delivered... If the first person who got my order had taken the time and had set the right expectations by telling me that the wait could be up to 4 weeks... Then I would have known that maybe Brookside Optometry was not the place where I would order my glasses. I'm almost to the point where I just might cancel my order and get a refund. I'm not saying "DONT GO TO BROOKSIDE OPTOMETRIC". What I am saying is --Make sure you get a commitment from them when you order your glasses, and that way you don't have to wait as long as I have-- read more

I heard positive things about Brookside Optometry so I requested an appointment by email. They're booking for August. Unfortunately, this is too far out for me. I've had great difficulty finding an optometrist in Stockton. I know they're are great doctors out there, but I've found office staff to be less than accommodating. I would have appreciated being offered a cancellation list, but I was told, "Before I take your information, you should know that we are booking appointments for August." I see Dr. Yolanda Scheer, have been going to her for a couple years. She is excellent. I highly recommend her. She is thorough, professional, gracious, and truly the best optometrist I have ever seen in my life. She is monitoring a condition for me, and referred me to an excellent opthalmologist (fortunately, nothing serious!). She also helped me figure out an eye strain issue, and prescribed computer glasses with prism for me, which took care of the issue. I think her specialty is pediatric optometry, but she's also great with adults! She obviously loves what she does. As for Brookside Optometric, I have had very good service there. They might not be the cheapest around for glasses, but I need progressives and astigmatism correction, so I'm not the simplest prescription out there. When I had an issue with a different brand of progressive lenses, they did replace them (I had to pay for it, though they gave me a small discount). When my frames broke after only a few months, they sent them back to the manufacturer and got them replaced (I had to push a little for that, at first was told it "wasn't covered"). I have gone back numerous times to have my glasses adjusted along the way (I'm picky and "sensitive" behind the ears). But they have worked with me on that. I particularly like Jennifer, she's been very helpful to me in fitting/adjusting. They take VSP insurance. read more

I was nervous because we had been with our previous optometry group for several years. I have to say that our complete experience from the time we scheduled the eye exam, to when we arrived, to Dr. Melrose who gave my son his exam and made us both feel so comfortable, not to mention is expertise; and on to the young lady who was very patient with helping my son find the right glasses. I didn't mind spending an extra few dollars here. The frames are reasonably priced. I've told my husband and my older son about this great place and will tell anyone I meet to try Brookside. She is so competent, professional & thorough-- & gives you her full, personal attention from start to finish. The equipment & testing here is really excellent too. Dr. Melrose not only updated my prescription, but also did tests & scans to carefully evaluate my eye health. She reviewed the scan results with me & helped me understand important issues involving my eyes & my overall health. What a service!
