Brooklyn's Deli is part of my DNA. When my granddaughter's were little we would come in once a week for lunch. Now, I usually grab my deli at the service counter and bring it home. But, today, I was meeting a friend. We both ordered sandwiches with corned beef, coleslaw, and Russian dressing on it. The sandwich was excellent! Their corned beef is lean and tasty. We shared an order of French fries which were hot and crispy. I love the complimentary pickle platter too. The deli is a fun and comfortable restaurant. We have been coming here for over 20 years, and this visit was a huge disappointment. We were told to sit anywhere, chose a booth, and then sat for 20 minutes with no service. We finally had to ask an older server if anyone was going to help us before we even got menus. Meanwhile, staff stood around talking to the cooks and drinking their own beverages instead of paying attention to customers. When someone finally took our order, the food was just as bad as the service. The cheese omelette was tiny, the bagels tasted like low quality supermarket bagels, and the hash browns were completely inedible. The nova with eggs had chopped onion that were unevenly distributed. They had a strong chemical smell and tasted like old industrial oil. We left the potatoes on the plate untouched. To top it off, the server who told us to seat ourselves ignored us the entire time but immediately helped the next customer who walked in. After 20 years, this place has clearly gone downhill. Between the poor service and terrible food, there is no reason to come back. If they care, Management needs to step in. read more

I was disappointed to spend $19.99 for a Turkey Reuben for lunch and it didn't come with a pickle or fries or chips some kind of side. That's a little expensive for just a turkey sandwich that was just ok, the turkey was pretty dry. read more

The sign on the door said they were open until 8pm. The door was unlocked so I walked in at 6:55pm and I was told they were closed and that the sign on the front door was for the hours "before Covid". Seems to me that Covid isn't impacting sit-in dinners on a Saturday night. While I respect any establishment's right to choose its own hours, it also seems to me that the hours should be updated by now since the Pandemic began 6 years ago and ended 3-4 years ago. read more

Disappointed. There were so many fruit flies swirling around my food that I had to put it in a box and leave. I had ordered a whitefish salad platter. It arrived minus the tomatoes and lemon as listed on the menu. And with a torn apart bagel, maybe someone else's scooped bagel. And what happened to pickles? I hesitated coming due to the average reviews but decided to give them a try. Plenty of tables and staff were very plentiful and courteous. No music but otherwise decent breakfast/lunch spot. The chicken noodle soup had that homemade taste and was good. The specialty pastrami sandwich was excellent. The prices are a bit high but we enjoyed the experience. A good friend brought me here for breakfast today as a surprise. Bruce used to take his daughters here every Saturday when they were little girls. It was a heavenly combination of hot pastrami, cole slaw and Russian. I asked for the regular hot pastrami and it was perfect... no mustard needed. Making pastrami is both art and science. Whoever is in charge of pastrami production at Brooklyn's must have graduated from Katz's with a PhD in pastrami making! Yes, it's true... Service: We arrived a few minutes before 12:00 noon and were seated promptly. A waitress greeted us and brought glasses of water. I want to divert for a moment to say that there is a sign in the front window of Brooklyn's Deli advertising for four different positions. The restaurant business in 2023 is particularly challenging and hiring people isn't easy. Our waitress was a pro, took our orders and brought them out reasonably quickly. The matzo ball soup and pastrami sandwich are both excellent. The matzo ball soup is on-point traditional; no deviation. And that's what I'm looking for. The pastrami meat is perhaps the best in the DMV. I get the "half portion" pastrami sammie. I don't go with one of the specialty sammies that features hot pastrami because of the wet ingredients and cheese. I want to taste the pastrami without distraction; with just some lettuce and tomato. Customers can get their sammies however they want and trust that they'll get what they ordered. The packaging is reliable for take-out. That's all I've ever done; never dine-in. If I'm ever in Potomac, I'll stop by here to buy these two items specifically. read more

Coming from NYC where all the greatest delis are, nostalgia brought me to Brooklyn's Deli on a cold winter weekend morning. Okie family popped in at around 11am, and due to Covid, we sat in their outdoor makeshift dining tent. The portions are huge- so that's a plus if you've got quite the appetite, but for a 5'2 105lb girl like me... I'm looking for quality. This ain't it. So the search continues. My egg omelette was fine though- it's par with any mediocre diner. Coffee is decent. The Philly cheesesteak (MD style or otherwise) were pretty well packed but lacked flavor and the bread seemed somewhat stale. I would say you get your bang for the money here but come hungry. read more

Compared to Attman's and delis in Baltimore, Florida, and New York, I can say that Brooklyn's Deli is overpriced, under staffed, and the worst corned sandwiches I have ever tasted: soggy bread, gummy meat, dirty tables, etc. The pricing is high and the the staff are surly. I submitted a poor review after my first visit. The owner asked me to return and to tell him. Now, here's the thing. I hate that. If you know I'm a review, you're likely to change and prepare with more attention. That's not fair as a review. But if he was that confident, that he was willing to comp me a sandwich, I was willing to give it another try. I am happy to report that he was right. The pastrami was tender, properly sliced and warm. The sandwich was delicious. I was less hungry this time, so I didn't get fries, so I can't vouch for those. But I'm happy I came back. Too expensive. I ordered a basic everything bagel with lox and got a very basic bagel with lox. Which I'm fine with, but when it rang up at over $15 I wanted to walk away. I left feeling bummed about my dilemma, I was hungry, the staff had already started making my breakfast sandwich, and I didn't want to let my stomach and all those people down by walking away. It haunted me throughout the day as I kept checking my bank account and seeing a whopping $15 taken from my hard earned account just for a simple run of the mill, no flairs, no specialties, no fancy hipster takes on a breakfast sandwich which would possibly justify spending that kinda dough.. I should have walked away and not suffer through this stomach wrenching guilt I carry now. read more

Great Food/Great Service! Treated a friend to lunch (12/28/19). We arrived early afternoon, busy but not packed. We were seated quickly. My friend ordered the "chicken salad sandwich" White bread w/lettuce/tomato. She was absolutely pleased w/sandwich remarking "It's huge I'll get to meal from this sandwich." I ordered "buttermilk pancakes" w/side of sausage (patties). The menu offer 1-4 pancakes. I ordered (2) pancakes. When my order arrived the pancakes covered almost the entire plate like 8 inches. The the brought a syrup, & sausage (2) patties also generous size. Wonderfully tender, delicious buttermilk flavor pancakes. Flavorful sausage too. I couldn't finish them. Great service. There's Brooklyn Deli and Attman's within a mile of each other. I still visit Brooklyn Deli cause I need my matzoh ball soup fix. It could be a 100 degrees outside, and I still get a bowl whenever I stop in. As you can see from my pics, I tend to go with familiar items. Soup, lox and bagel or turkey reuben. I did have the Philly chicken once. Had asked for no peppers, but it came out with no onions. Was such a hectic lunch hour that I just ate it. Not as good as I had hoped, so lesson learned. I'll just stick to those items I know and enjoy. It's a tight space, but staff seem to handle it well. I've heard them estimate the wait at 20 minutes or more before, but I've never waited more than 10 to get seated. read more

I was curious to try this deli after trying other popular delis in the area to see how it compared. I went for breakfast one day and ordered an omelette that had corned beef, pastrami and Muenster cheese in it, an interesting combination, but I typically order most restaurants unique items. The omelette came out relatively fast and was a decent size. It was delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed it and the rye toast that came with it. The establishment itself had all sorts of fun vintage photos of Brooklyn in it, including old shots of Coney Island. I can only speak for their breakfast omelets, but I had a great and tasty experience. read more

I think the 3 star rating for this place is spot on. We were at the Rockville Hometown celebration, during Memorial Day, and the Taste of Rockville was there. We had the most delicious pastrami sandwich at Brooklyn's Deli's booth. They cut the pastrami right in front of us and they cut it in big chunks. I think I ordered three of the sandwiches there. It was so good! Now we went to the restaurant thinking we were going to get the same delicious, thick cut, melt in your mouth sandwich. What a letdown. Their pastrami was cut so thin and didn't melt in your mouth. I mean it was good, but not what we were expecting. It's a tale of two sandwiches. If I come back I'll have to try other items besides their sandwiches. Their menu has so many other food items, that I will need to come back here to try. I wonder if I can request the pastrami to be thick cut. read more

We went for breakfast Saturday morning. Pretty empty. Spotty service. Food was good. Had a very tasty Westerm omelette, well-loaded with onions peppers, ham and cheese. Standard hash browns. I'd give this place a 5/5 for the omelette alone, but we had to continually flag down the waitress, so I gave it a 4/5. I thought I'd give it a try despite the mediocre 3 star rating. I got carry out but the front staff seemed nice enough. I order a Galkin (turkey) sandwich. While there was plenty of turkey meat, I still felt disappointed. First, for 14.99 the sandwich should totally delight. This didn't for a few reasons. First the while turkey meat itself was good quality it was nothing special and just a pig limp of turkey meat. The multigrain bread wasn't dry but was still too flimsy to support this size sandwich - it immediately cracked and crumbled into multiple pieces. Then there was no condiment so it felt dry and I had to add my own. In short, at $14.99 this is wildly overpriced for a pretty basic mediocre sandwich. Maybe stick to the deli specials(?) read more

I'm from NY, where this is typically $2.50-5, but is usu bomb anywhere! THIS WAS $10- strike 1, ridiculous. I played it cool though, I needed a quick grab & go and figured it must be bomb between the "Brooklyn" reference, & the price; not! Maybe I'm somewhat at fault for not asking for the bread to be buttered, LIGHTLY toasted, and eggs to be seasoned with salt and pepper. At home (or in my hometown), the bacon & cheese add enough flavor, eggs often salt and peppered without question. Idk if it's just a DMV culture difference or what, but........ I was so aggravated about this damn sandwich, I took this picture to vent to my family after I bit it! 15minutes later, hot home, buttered & seasoned the damn thing that I paid enough for a sauteed steak breakfast sandwich from a deli. #BigMad On the bright side, cashier was pleasant and quick...but I would not return. Menu said sandwich was $16.99 but bill said $17.99. Server said that's what her register printed out but she would ask the manager. She returned with a message that it was an upcharge for the Cole slaw on the corned beef sandwich. It was rude of the manager not to come out, the menu has no mention of an upcharge, and in 70 years of eating this sandwich i do not remember ever being up charged for this. My go to place for ages. Been a customer since they had a location in Potomac Village. Love their Cohen Club which is my standard comfort fix that reminds me of my struggling days in NYC as a wannabe actor. A Jewish deli was always my comfort. Brooklyn Deli is the real deal with everything a great New York Jewish Demi should have. When I am sick I get a large order of their home made penicillin (Chicken Soup w Matzo-balls) And days like today I love my breakfast. One sad note is their once perfectly crispy and fluffy light grated hash browns (not home potatoes) have become stuck together and the technique which was perfect for years now is more mushy and less identifiable as the real deal. Also they have become a little cheap with the portion you get. Besides that one sad flaw everything is great. Today I sat outside and a very friendly and wonderful waitress named Alex took care of me and my huge Bernese Mountain Dog whom she treated to two bowls of refreshing water he needed. I love sitting outside on nice summer mornings like this when not too hot. If only I could get those perfect hash browns back like they used to be it would be perfect! GUY BRANDT!!! If you're cat hair-balling right now. I'm sorry, I'm jewish and I love chopped liver! My totes fave is chopped liver on matzoh with a little cold horseradish. If you're adventurous, try it out. It's delicious. The meal was very good at Brooklyn Deli. I love the pickles there. The sandwich was so big I couldn't fit it in my mouth and the whitefish salad was a hearty portion and very tasty. I can tell you that this is the only whitefish salad platter in the area that comes with all the fixins' I love. Tomato Cucumber Olives Capers SWISS CHEESE ( thats the big difference) Lemon and Whitefish Salad And now you will learn how to make- what I like to call: Mike's Perfect Bagel Start out with bagel, spread the cream cheese, and sprinkle a few capers in the cream cheese. You have to sprinkle the capers at this step or they will roll all over the place like a dropped bag of skittles. So once you've embedded the capers in the cream cheese then top with whitefish salad. On top of the whitefish salad, put one slice of tomato. The whitefish salad will hold the tomato on. Then cross two triangles of swiss cheese on top and you've got - MIKE'S PERFECT BAGEL! Brooklyn Deli is serving up large sandwiches with great quality meat daily. They have an expansive menu, you'll definitely be able to find what you want. So it sounds like this place is perfect right. Why the one star knock off. I'm not a huge fan of the actual bagel. Where ever they source them from is not my favorite.
