This is the best sandwich i have ever had, i got the "super salty" and holy crap, it was amazing. It is a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it, plus the sandwich was huge. read more

A nice, clean and simple place. They didn't have too many vegetarian options, but I was able to get the Veggie Elite which was decent (nothing spectacular). I had ordered a small sandwich , which was pretty big (footlong), which was nice but for $15, it was definitely not worth it. I feel Twisted Sweets and Savory would be a significantly better option (with price and bread varieties) or even Subway, honestly (for its cost). read more

This is a high quality sandwich! They use quality meats, fresh toppings, and tasty bread. Our go to is the mad Italian and just recently tried the roast beef sandwich. The roast beef is cooked perfectly with some pink and it is tender and delicious! The sweet and hot peppers are phenomenal. A must get on any sandwich. read more

I really enjoy this spot! My boyfriend and I aren't huge sandwich eaters but we definitely go here often now! I usually get the same Italian madness sandwich. He typically tries new things and his favorites are the Mad Italian and the Brooklyn steamer. Be said the salty pig is super goooood too! They are very quick at making sandwiches. There's hardly any seats inside, because it's a small spot. They have like two tables. They don't have any outside seating. The Sammie's are HUGE! And filled, still not super NY style meat cuts but really good. read more

Cannot recommend this place enough. My girlfriend and I had seen this place a handful of times when visiting the ramen place next door. We finally had a craving for a good sandwich and decided to give this place a shot. We are happy we did. The food here is amazing! The sandwiches are loaded for the money. They are a little pricier at $13 on average but it's worth it in my opinion. I got the New York Steamer the first time and my girlfriend got the spicy Italian. The second time I got the mad Italian and she got the spicy Italian again. It was worth the money and the trip back. The sandwiches here are so flavorful and full of toppings so it beats all the other guys. They also have really good chips as well. All the flavors we've tried so far have been delicious. The service here is always prompt and friendly. They have a couple of people working at all times so you should be in and out pretty quick. The ambiance is cool because of all the football stuff the owner has in the back wall. I love all the Redskins/Commanders memorabilia. It makes it feel like a homey spot. Cannot recommend this place enough. I'm so glad we walked by here one day and noticed it. read more

Best damn sub in NoVa!! Nothing else to say, other than you need to eat here! Locally owned, excellent ingredients, fresh rolls and a fair price. And, you get to support a long time Herndon small business. read more

These guys make an excellent sandwich- fresh bread balance with thinly sliced deli meat and the right proportion of lettuce, tomato mayo and pepper sauce make one of the best Italian subs in Fairfax. read more

I ordered a medium sized steak and cheese for $15 and instead got a pathetic scoop of chewy "meat product #34" topped with cold provolone, jarred peppers, all sandwiched between a stale bun from dollar general. How this business is still alive is beyond me. read more

I had the Budster. My friends had all been there before and they love it. I'm a new fan myself! Good service. Super small not a lot of seating. The sandwich was tasty and the bag of chips were a little bigger than expected. I enjoyed the visit and will return. read more

I'm all for a great sub/hero/grinder...whatever you want to call it and I'm also all for small businesses especially since covid times...but...I must go with 3 stars based on our steak and cheese order. I was pretty disappointed when the guy pulled some precooked steak and plopped it into the microwave for a few minutes. I almost wanted to change my mind but didn't follow thru. As you can imagine, a microwaved steak and cheese is no replacement for a freshly grilled one. Also ordered the New Yorker...and it was OK. You can get a similar one at Santinis down the street at a much lower cost. Each sub was $16+ so you are dropping close to $40 on 2 subs. I'm sure The Deli has its devotees but based on this last experience I can't get to 4 stars. read more

4/5! Definitely a fan of The Deli! I decided to try this place out after hearing all the positive reviews about their subs. I can say, was not disappointed. The store is a very simple Italian deli. You walk in, browse the menu and order at the counter, and it'll be made in seconds. The Food: I went with the Mad Italian, which came with Capicola, Mortadella, Pepperoni, Genoa and Provolone. All the meats and ingredients worked very well together and everything there was quality. They were very generous with the portions as well. I left very full and satisfied. The Service: The employees were nice. I came at a busy lunch time, but that gave me time to browse the menu and see all of their different selections. Once I ordered at the counter, they made my order fairly quickly and had me on my way. Overall, a smooth experience. I'll be back here again! Always nice to know there's a place around me that offers quality Italian subs. read more

While the service is friendly and the store felt very welcoming inside, at the end of the day it all comes down to the food. The corned beef and pastrami sandwich that I ordered (The Salty Dog) had no flavor except just salt. It got to a point where as I was finishing a half of the sandwich, my tongue started to numb. I ended up getting rid of the second half of the expensive sandwich. If the sandwich was decent I might have been able to forgive the store's lack of sauerkraut but unfortunately that was missing as well. Willing to spare a second star because the store was very friendly. read more

I stop at many local delis due to my job and I think I've officially found a favorite! Yummy soft bread, incredibly generous with the meat and cheeses, loads of toppings, and if you ask for extra peppers you really get extra peppers!!! Delicious sandwiches and quick efficient friendly service. I ordered eight cold sandwiches and was in and out in 10-15 minutes during Friday lunch. Small unsuspecting shop with filling and delicious subs at a fair price. read more

As per our unspoken agreement, any time my boyfriend and I go for a long bike ride or hike, we order an Italian sub. It's the law. We biked many miles until our legs decided they needed a break. By that time we were in a town we've never been and were hungry. Did a quick Yelp search and saw this place and decided to come in and split the Mad Italian. It was very good, although not my favorite deli shop. I can say that it was almost too meaty/salty and didn't taste balance even though we asked for vinegar. I wouldn't mind coming back and trying another sandwich. I do agree with the other reviewers that the sandwiches are pretty expensive, which I get because of the current situation. But I also agree that if you're going to make customers wear a mask, then the employees should as well. The gentleman who rang us up did not. read more

The Deli - The Italian Stallion- very meaty - Specialty Food Near Me - Herndon, Virginia

I don't really understand the love that people have for this place. I have now tried it three times and this time I had the Mad Italian, which everyone I know recommends. I'm sorry but the food is just average and there really isn't anything special about it. I think the reason why is the bread, which tastes like mass produced sub rolls you get at the supermarket or Costco. The meats were fine, but when you pair that with mediocre bread it really just brings down the entire sandwich. I think the sub would have been much better if the bread was made in house or bought fresh from a bakery. Unfortunately, yet another disappointing NoVa deli on the list. Oh, I think they charged me a $1 to use a credit card to pay for the meal. read more

I've been coming here for 30 years. Best italian sandwiches in NOVA. Great selection and priced right for the quality.

Love this place. Got the Salty Dog which is so good if you like or Corned Beef. Toppings are all fresh and prepared however you like. Also had my usual the Big Italian (or Mad Italian). So good. BUT they forgot to put pickles with it!!!! Ugh. I was so disappointed but the subs were great as always. read more

The Deli. Such a simple name. No lights, no glitter, no self-promotion. And yet, that's all this place needs because the food speaks for itself. I have lived in Herndon for 13 years and this place still remains one of my favorite places to eat. I would consider The Deli the best Italian sandwich deli in the entire DC metropolitan area. Better than the Italian Store. Better than A Deli. I would even go as far as to say that The Deli in Herndon is comparable to some of the delis in NYC which it is likely modeled after. I work from home and so I go to The Deli for lunch often. Definitely at least once a month. Usually once every couple weeks. I change my order often to get a taste of different things but my favorite sandwiches are the Super Salty Dog, The Italian Stallion, the Mad Italian, the New Yorker, and the Super Deli. The owner and staff here are incredibly nice. I've been going to them for years. read more

Amazing! The have the best NY Style Pizza in the area! Their Sicilian is great too!

This place is legit, I had the salute, my son had the big salty. Excellent bread, very heavy.

Great local deli with delicious sandwiches. I got the mad Italian and it did not disappoint.

My wife was in the mood for a corned beef and pastrami sandwich. If we were in Chantilly or Fairfax, we'd head to Chutzpah off West Ox Rd. But we were in Sterling, and a yelp search for non chains nearer to our home in Oak Hill brought us here. We got a combo pastrami and roast beef on rye bread that my wife thought was delicious. We'll come back when we are in the neighborhood read more

Great service and the food is always fresh and very tasty. Puts all other sandwich shops in the area to shame.

Great sandwich shop. Generous portions. Great bread. Been eating here for years. Highly recommend the Italian combo sandwiches.

Excellent Italian subs, they are huge and taste yummy. The best subs in the area providing a delicious meal and very affordable!!

Sorry, but this deli does not cut the mustard. I got the Mad Italian which while it comes with a lot, did not provide me much comfort. The bread it comes on is way too soft, almost soaking in the olive oil. The meat tasted like it had it had been sitting out a bit, but by no means was it not fresh. Just not the kind I am used to. It comes with a side pickle but nothing else. That is a huge bummer. I got a bag of Route 11 potato chips but they are not enough to overturn this decision. Either way you slice it, if you want a good Italian, or just a good sandwich, make your way out to PrimoHoagies in Leesburg. The bread is better and the meats are fresher. Cut and dry, plain and simple. read more

I had the mad Italian sandwich. It was excellent. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area.

The Deli is the sandwich shop that I wished I had known about earlier since I worked in the Herndon/Reston area. Went venturing out to find a new lunch spot. The photos does not do the sandwiches justice. The sandwiches are packed like a NY sub. Loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, and large slices of hot peppers, plus a pickle on the side. I ordered the 8" Mad Italian and it took two sittings to finish. The deli also sells meat and cheese by the pound and snacks and drinks as well. read more

The sandwiches are true Italian masterpieces and remind me of the kind I used to get in NY. Jus delish! My only gripe is that sometimes it takes a long time to deliver during busy times (like lunch)....but still, worth it. read more

Just started working in Herndon and heard about The Deli off Elden street. I got the Mad Italian and my coworker got the tuna. Both were so delicious! First time trying out this deli. Prices seem high already plus the $1 added service charge per sandwich because of COVID. Steak and cheese was eh, not much flavor to the meat.
