I wasn't sure whether or not to listen to the previous bad reviews but we really needed the help since my father could no longer take care of himself 100%. The caretakers were great help but I'm not sure why there are only 2 people expected to take care of over 60 residents?? We paid over $5000 monthly and it was not worth it. They tried to charge us for every single little thing and snuck charges in for things we did not approve. The director and other managerial staff seemed nice but I have witnessed on multiple occasions, upper management bullying their staff on the floor. Get a grip! This place is a scam and just wants your money. Please just get in home care like we are doing now. Save the money and the headache/heartache! read more

Today I spoke with Preeha the executive director, to clarify some information. Both my grandma and myself were on speaker to ask some questions to bring us relief. Instead of having patience and compassion while my confused grandmother is trying to calm down, she ridiculed my grandma and me. She would not refrain from interrupting me, even though I showed her respect and did not do that to her. She was rude in the manner she spoke to my grandmother, over some confusion or misunderstanding that my grandmother was having. She showed no empathy and basically said spare her the family drama, "family dynamics". There was no professionalism towards my grandmother which raises concern to think is this how she is with the elderly there, smh. My grandmother struggles to speak due to her stroke,preeha showed no compassion for that. All she did was get upset with my grandmother and interrupted her many times while she was trying to speak. No manners, especially someone of her position should know better and have better control over her personal emotions. If she cannot hold her composure over a phone call imagine her in person. I spoke calm, and just had some questions to ask for my grandmother, preeha was so condescending in the way she spoke to me. My grandmother was getting upset on the phone but I was calmly handling that but preeha on the other end was annoyed and made sly comments of why it took me a week to respond to them. Two sides to every story but she was quick to make accusations and made threats as well. At the end of the conversation she again interrupted my sentence and said irritated loudly, if we had any other questions so she could hang up on us. Funny because she wasn't interested in being calm or respectfully resolve our question that we were trying get cleared up. (she just wanted to hang up). Not a place my grandmother was meant to be at, thank you God for showing us her true colors ahead of time. My grandmother is meant to be at a healthy, loving, not hostile, safe and fun environment which is San Jose location. They are empathic and trained properly to handle emotions of elderly. Elder Abuse : "Barbara Collier was 89 years old when her family says she died after escaping the Caldor Fire, and faced abuse at a senior facility. Now, they've filed a lawsuit and are calling for change. "They're promising 'we will take care of your loved ones,'" said Rebecca Gyorgy. Two years ago, Gyorgy and her family chose Brookdale Folsom Senior Living Facility to care for her grandmother, but within days of checking Collier into the facility, Gyorgy says she started noticing bruises on the 89-year-old. "We saw bruises and that's why we put the camera in, in the first place," said Gyorgy. That hidden camera caught employees allegedly pulling her hair and slapping her. Shortly after, Gyorgy says her grandmother passed away and she believes it was because of the abuse. "This is horrible is one of the worst things I've ever been through in my life," she said. Following this incident, the facility told ABC10 those employees no longer work for the company and it takes the health and well being of its residents seriously. "It shouldn't happen to anybody else and maybe if they have to paid for their mistakes, it won't. We will make sure it doesn't," said Gyorgy. Now, Gyorgy and her family have filed a lawsuit against Brookdale claiming elder abuse and wrongful death. Gyorgy says it's about getting justice for her grandmother, but also holding the facility accountable. "What I would like to see done is have it mandatory that all caregivers have to wear body cams," said Gyorgy. A Brookdale spokesperson would not comment on the pending lawsuit but did say resident health, safety and dignity are priorities. Brookdale does not tolerate any employee conduct that is inconsistent with their priorities and ensures all employees understand that. Back in 2021, a Brookdale spokesperson told ABC10 the company has things in place like background checks and training to make sure all employees are in compliance with state rules and regulations. When asked if policies have been updated since Collier's case, a spokesperson would not answer that question. The family did report this to the state and says the company was fined around $500." We all have very high hopes and strong feelings about these types of places. Sadly, we also have to wrestle with our "guilt" that we are choosing to put a family member in one. I want to address both items. First, let me say that I have the utmost respect for people in this field of work. They have saved me a lot of grief over the years. My rating is based on the totality of the care and operations I have experienced with my elderly aunt who has been at Brookdale in Tracy for 6 years. She is still there and I am thankful. I vetted 7 facilities before deciding on this one. I chose it for location, cost, services, staff, and step care availability to dementia care. A special thank you to Christina, Lisette, Priya, Jamie, Marites, Chinny, and the front desk and housekeeping staff. Without you to deal with my aunt, I would be miserable. I thank you with all my heart, and I commend you on your patience with residents and family members alike! A few things I have learned: You must be prepared to understand this business and all of its good and challenging sides. There are varying levels of competence in every establishment. The behavior of each resident and family member and how they interact with the staff, caregivers, and each other is really out of your control, and even paying the closest of attention to every detail will not change the crazy stuff that happens in these "elder care" centers. These are like a geriatric fraternity or sorority houses. You can put your expectations out there very explicitly, and you can watch and participate. But these are human beings, so do not expect appropriate behavior from everyone all the time. You are going to get a microcosm of the human race in any of these places, so be ready. Ask yourself if your family member would be better off living with you. Most of us could not tolerate the challenges faced by these staff in facilities who care for our family members. In fact, their very existence is based on our own inability or unwillingness. I have no guilt about keeping my aunt in this facility. This facility is good; the staff truly cares about their role in the life of your loved one. They are attentive, responsible, trustworthy, and helpful. And you will pay for that care. But please know, they also have their human limits. They are dealing with dozens of our elderly relatives who have behavior problems. If we could handle having these elderly relatives (just one!) in our own homes, the by all means we should. But no one should be judged for making a decision for their life to place a relative in a facility if they cannot handle an elderly relative that might have dementia, other mental illness, hoarding, lack of hygiene, financial irresponsibility, etc. I wonder how it would look if every person in the world could receive a Yelp review for how they cared for their family members. I would not want that kind of scrutiny determining my fate. In 6 years, I have seen the staff completely turn over a few times, with a temporary revolving door of Executive Directors. The food has improved. The bill has doubled in 6 years. That's the world we live in. If you are going to consider assisted living for your relative, open up your eyes to the good aspects of this option, and do your research. Be careful not to expect perfection, it is nonexistent. read more

My elderly mother was a resident of Brookdale in their memory care section for two years. She received good care from the caregivers. They were kind to her. She was up and dressed daily and her meds were given daily as prescribed. The caregivers tried to engage residents with games but it is difficult with dementia patients. My issue with Brookdale is that the memory care section seems to be an afterthought. While the assisted living side had people come and play the piano or sing for entertainment, rarely did those entertainers go over to the memory care side, and the folks in memory care couldn't go over to the other side without a caregiver taking them and staying with them. There isn't staff for that. The memory care residents get television and that's about it. Supposedly the monthly rate included housekeeping but my mom's room was very dirty. I cleaned it myself on a monthly basis but when we moved her out the floor and furniture were very dusty and dirty. I think "housekeeping" only meant cleaning the bathroom and emptying the trash. Overall I was happy with her care but not happy with the cleanliness. The place needs an upgrade in decor as well. It's rather dark instead of being light and bright. read more

Anyone thinking of placing a Loved one at any Brookdale- DON'T DO IT- Especially the one in Manteca at 430 No. Union , Manteca CA- The Corporate GREED is disgusting ... and the Executive Director who is useless ,her LVN and ESPECIALLY the SALES MANAGER (who are the ones calling the shots) are a bunch of liars and crooks- they get you in, promise lots of lies and then EXTORT your money in order to keep your elderly, sick loved one there......... The $10.00 per hr kids at the facility eyeing to get their CNA's are gems, so sweet and caring and are the only ones there trustworthily...... I hope they get out soon too........ read more

I'm greatly disappointed in the lack of service the marketing and nursing staff gave me and my mother when attempting to apply in March 2018. At first I was impressed in what seemed to be a very concerned and considerate marketing person who gave me my initial intake interview. My first minor red flag was when she didn't return my first phone inquiry until after 24 hours (I don't remember the question, but I remember thinking how frustrating it is to try to make health care decisions for a parent while juggling other demands when people don't return phone calls within a reasonable amount of time). My second minor red flag pertained to trying to set up their nurse to come out to evaluate if my mother is healthy enough to live in assisted living. Again, no return call until more than 24 hours (minor but irritating). What really fuels my low rating is the nurse came out, did her assessment and never called me (I was out of town so I could not be there) like I had requested. She relayed the information through their marketing person who said my mother "wasn't strong enough." That's pretty ambiguous. I asked if the nurse could call me and explain what that means; does that mean they think she could go to skilled nursing and rehab and then try again, or were there other reasons? Also, the marketing lady said her wounds on her legs were a problem. She has two small wounds on her legs bandaged when the nurse came out. When I inqired more she said they had to be at a level 2 or better. I explained my mom's other visiting nurse said they were at a level 2 or better. When I asked the marketing lady if their nurse had even looked at my mom's wounds she said no they did not. I asked to have her ask the nurse to call and she never called. Disappointing and frustrating. I can only conjecture why they didn't want my mom there (did they think she was going to be too much work? That's why I'm looking for assisted living, because she needs assistance living). Do they only want clients that do not need a lot of assistance? Again, I can only conjecture. Finding assistance for one's parent is stressful, it would be a lot easier if assisted living facilities staff would communicate better and in a timely manner. Update: I did finally get a hold of the assessing nurse who was helpful over the phone, so I changed my two stars to three. read more

My wife and I spent a good deal of time looking for a kind, caring, safe community for my 91 year old mother who has come to the point that she needs assistance with some of her day to day tasks. Brookdale Tracy (not to be confused with the Manteca facility mentioned in a previous review) has absolutely exceeded our expectations. From the first day, it was clear to me that the entire staff is focused on building a safe, loving community for their residents. My mother has been at Brookdale Tracy for about two and a half months now. The staff knows her well and is tuned in to all her various health needs. I have had constant pleasant contact with the executive director, the director of nursing, and the finance director as we've worked through getting her settled in her new home. I can't say enough about their attention to my mother's needs and their efforts to address any concern I have had. The tone they set is also clearly evident in the kindness of the caregivers that interact with my mother on a daily bases. If you are looking for a place where your loved one will find an extended caring family, this is it. read more
