I was given Tami's name with high praise from Lori at Truewood (my mother's place of residence) Everything was clearly explained to Tami regarding my mother's 24-hr care requirements until her death. All seemed in order and they met us at her home when the ambulance transported her there. Not until then did I learn that the caregivers were NOT licensed and would not be able to administer meds or suction her airway as needed. I had to pay over $12,000 in advance for 14 days of care. The staff were more like companions than caregivers, asking to do laundry or cleaning but clearly unsure how to care for a dying patient. One didn't even turn her for over 6 hrs, her face wasn't washed, her teeth weren't brushed, and I read with much distress that my mother had woken confused in the night and asked for me repeatedly but I was never called or told, even though I had given instructions call me anytime. One caregiver was pretty good with care..she knew how to position my mother, she changed her clothes, gave her a bed bath, and even brushed her hair. Unfortunately, this was the same caregiver that was curled up like a cat on the sofa, shoes off, sound asleep in the middle of the morning and I was in the apartment for a full 15 minutes before she even woke up. The last morning was horrid. We arrived about 9am and the caregiver reported she had just repositioned my mother. When I walked into the room, I could tell from her color that she was gone. She had stopped breathing and the girl didn't even notice! I called hospice and dismissed her as she stood there with saucer eyes and asked me what I wanted her to do! I called Tami a few days later and told her that I felt the staff was unprepared to care for a dying patient. She immediately got defensive, told me that the staff was assigned according to experience and there should have been no issues. She then asked for a good review. The final straw...my mother died after only 5 days and so we were due a refund. She died on the 9th. We didn't receive the check until the 4th of the following month, made out in my DECEASED mother's name and sent to the wrong address. If they had been honest about their limitations, I would never have hired them. We had other options that I would have taken. I cannot honestly recommend this company unless all you need is companion services and/or your loved one is able to speak for themselves.

Having Vitas help us was invaluable for providing the care and comfort my father needed. His needs weren't just physical in nature, although it required not only a special hospital bed, oxygen tanks, wheelchair, personal hygiene supplies, and nurses and bathers and massages, it required a trained team that coordinated their efforts purposefully. The hospice team's trained eyes saw to it that medications were given as needed or adjusted. Also that dietary considerations were addressed so that increases in medication would be minimized. We were able to trust your training and fund of knowledge in caregiving. Your team was able to help us as caregivers to understand what Dad was going through emotionally. The team felt more like part of our family, which takes healthcare to its best level, they cared about my father and treated him with respect. Thank you for not overlooking this very important part of a patient's care. Your team also acknowledged his need to share his life's experiences and his journey toward Spirituality. He had thought much about what happens at death, after his young uncle died. My father had decided to start reading scripture to see if it would provide him with the answers about death he was seeking. What he learned was so satisfying that it changed the direction of his life and by extension the life he provided for us as his family. We treasure that legacy he instilled in us. It seems only natural that at the end of his life that all the things he counted as treasures come full circle. He loved life very much, however he did not fear death. Some call it belief in higher power, but he felt like he was building trust in a living God, one who was never further than a prayer away, one he had a personal relationship with. He felt the support of a loving caring God who would remember him. This brought him much comfort toward the end of his life. My father lovingly encouraged my mother to get back to a spiritual routine as soon as she could after he passed, which she has done. She has found support not only with our family but with her spiritual family at the congregation. She has been reaching out to others who have suffered loss and trying to help them understand Bible passages for themselves, building hope and providing comfort. Mom is doing better. She has more good days than not. She isn't letting herself travel this path alone. She accepts help when she needs it. She allows herself to talk about Dad and treasures the many good times they had together. Mom is doing well after sharing 69 years of marriage and having Dad in her life for at least 72 years. It is an adjustment to be sure. It is evident to me that there are many facets to providing excellence in healthcare and this care team at Vitas has exceeded my expectations of care, and has included the family in the equation for this care, of which we are very grateful. I was told that I'd be contacted the following week to get PT. I did not get a call, so on Thursday I called them and were surprised that I was not contacted. The following week I got a visit on Tuesday with another one on Thursday. I got call on Wednesday letting me know that I only had three visits and the two for the previous week were "missed visits", their misses since I am not mobile and at home 24x7. So, I only got on visit of the three because they did not have their schedule together. Get another provider if you can.

She would not be as recovered without the rehab and care the staff provided from Tracy Nursing and Rehab center.
