I asked my Mom what other All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry's there are in the Rhinelander area…read moreother than the two standards we were aware of, and she mentioned this place. I called ahead asking what time they served it, and was told between 5-9 pm. The place isn't hard to find, being right off of Highway 8, on the Northwoods Golf Course grounds. Pulling up around 8:30, we found ample parking. We walked into what is possibly the clubhouse for the golf course. The left half of the building is devoted to Mulligan's. We saw a sign that said wait to be seated, which we did. It took a couple of minutes for a lady to greet us very warmly, and get us to our table. We got a corner that looks out over the golf course grounds and outdoor deck they have. There is seating outside on the deck, but being that it was later on in the evening and in the Great Northwoods, we decided against the mosquitoes and stayed inside where we were. The hostess asked us if we had an idea about drinks, and we inquired about tap beers. She mentioned 5 and we decided against them. Alyssa R went with a Gin & Tonic. I went with the High Life. The place is set up like a sports bar, with a little Northwoods feel to it. It has a lot of logs covering the walls. All the TVs had sports on them. In fact, when our drinks were brought by our server, Beth, I asked if the one over our heads could be tuned into the Brewers game. Beth made no fuss about it, and even asked if we wanted the sound on. Very nice!
When she got the game on, Beth asked us if we knew what we would like to eat. Alyssa R. went with the daily dinner special, Cajun Chicken Alfredo Pasta. I did the AYCE Fish Fry. Alyssa got a choice of soup or salad. She went with the salad. I got a choice of lightly battered, Beer Battered, or broiled Haddock. I went with Beer Battered. I also got a choice of potato. That was French fries, Sweet potato fries, or potato pancakes. My Mom had already told me about those pancakes, so I went with her recommendation in getting them. There was a choice of soup or salad, too. I went with soup, which was clam chowder. The short wait we had for our first course was filled with conversations of the upcoming weekend. Alyssa Rs salad was basic. With a couple of cucumber slices and a wedge of tomato. We also got a basket with two dinner rolls and room temperature butter pats. The chowder tasted alright. It was chunky with potatoes and had lots of clams. Flavor was lacking a bit. Could have used more seasoning or something. It was good, though.
Beth was on top of removing our dirty dishes. We didn't have to wait long for our suppers to arrive. The plate was massive with 4 hand dipped and golden fried Beer Battered fillets of Haddock and 2 huge potato pancakes with sides of maple syrup and applesauce. Also a side of tartar sauce. Alyssa R had an equal plate of food that was massive. It was such a big plate it made me think of a Buca di Beppo family style serving. I had to ask for lemon, which Beth admitted she forgot. I got the first couple of pieces lemoned, cut into one, and bit into a wonderful piece of fish. Wow. What great flavor. Crispy shell with dill mixed into it. Nice touch to the Beer Batter. The fish was firm & full of flavor. Haddock isn't as flaky as Cod, but still holds up well. This is a great Beer Battered fish. Now. The potato pancakes. The Best. Ever. None can compare. My Mom did not lead me in the wrong direction. And fellow Yelpers. I will not either. Go here just for these, if you please. They had a wonderful flavor of onion in them, with a fantastic sear crust on both sides. I buttered mine, and that melted right down into them, which made them even more decadent. Pure joy in eating, and now remembering, them.
When Beth came to check up on us, she encouraged me to put in an order for more fish now, as for the kitchen would be closing up shortly. She said even if I didn't want anymore, to put in an order anyways, and I could just take it home with me. That was nice to mention. I did 3 more pieces because of that. When the Haddock arrived, it looked and tasted just as great as the first. The dill flecks in them was wonderful. One almost doesn't need tartar because of it. I took two of those 3 pieces home with me and Alyssa R took at least half of her pasta supper with her. Our bill totaled just over 35 bucks after tax. $12.95 for the AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry. For what I got, I feel that is a perfect price point. I didn't feel ripped off whatsoever.
Alyssa R & I are very glad to have come here and will be back again in the future to try out some of those other Haddock choices that are offered with the All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry. This is a great addition to the Rhinelander AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry circuit.
