If I could give this place 0 stars I would…read more We came here for fish fry on a Friday night after they were featured on the local news. We had a reservation for 7 and were seated immediately. Our server came over, who was no older than 16, and took our drink orders. We asked for a round of waters with our Old Fashions, well... after 2 hours of sitting there I can tell you we never received our waters. And that's just the beginning! Throughout these two hours our appetizers and drinks were forgotten and by the time we got our food, they had sold out of appetizers and side dishes. Btw- on Fish Fry Friday, the only appetizers they make are cheese curds & French fries... and they were all sold out. We never received our 1st course of salads and when our food FINALLY come after 2 hours, it was cold. It had that awful lukewarm / cold taste that fish gets when it's been sitting out. Our entire party ordered the fried cod, but what we received was breading... with a smidge of cod buried under LAYERS of breading. So safe to say the only food we received all night was pretty bad. I felt bad for our server, she was clearly very young and had never been trained. She carried our Old Fashions over to the table two at a time (we had a large group) instead of using a tray to make it easier & quicker, she was so confused about the menu & drinks. She never came back over to check on us, never brought our water and would forget to come over with her pad when taking our orders. There were 3 groups around us that got up and left before receiving their food and a group that would go to the bar to get their own drinks. On top of it all, the Golf Pro who was acting as the Manager for the night was super rude. He never came over to apologize and when approached about taking a few bucks off for the awful experience, he looked totally taken aback. He had to come over to our table because our waitress couldn't split the check and when the idea was brought up, he was not happy. He then said "Sure, a few bucks." When he returned, he had taken TWO DOLLARS off 1 bill... we were in a large party. So we spoke up again: no one received salads, no sides, no appetizers, no drinks or water and cold food. He looked at the waitress and said "not one salad?" because that's all he took from the laundry list of complaints. When she shook her head, he reluctantly grabbed our checks and took 4 dollars off each meal, which he stated was our first round of drinks. The restaurants lacks atmosphere. It's not warm or inviting or full of nice Midwesterners that you except from a Northwoods restaurant. The tables were never cleared and one of the servers couldn't find the light to turn on over our table so we sat in the dark for a portion of our time. Towards the end of our time here, we noticed another well-known chef in town come in with his entire crew. We watched that table get treated like kings and queens. They received their drinks immediately, their salads shortly after and their entrees after 20 minutes. It took us two hours... 120 minutes... to get a cold plate of fish, with nothing else. The Whipsaw Chef eventually came out & apologized to us, where he told us that they only purchased 2 deep fryers and he had suggested 3 so that's what kept them so far behind. I hope for the sake of the restaurant they fix their issues and hire a Manager that actually has some Customer Service skills but from my experience I will never be returning to this awful place.

I asked my Mom what other All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry's there are in the Rhinelander area…read moreother than the two standards we were aware of, and she mentioned this place. I called ahead asking what time they served it, and was told between 5-9 pm. The place isn't hard to find, being right off of Highway 8, on the Northwoods Golf Course grounds. Pulling up around 8:30, we found ample parking. We walked into what is possibly the clubhouse for the golf course. The left half of the building is devoted to Mulligan's. We saw a sign that said wait to be seated, which we did. It took a couple of minutes for a lady to greet us very warmly, and get us to our table. We got a corner that looks out over the golf course grounds and outdoor deck they have. There is seating outside on the deck, but being that it was later on in the evening and in the Great Northwoods, we decided against the mosquitoes and stayed inside where we were. The hostess asked us if we had an idea about drinks, and we inquired about tap beers. She mentioned 5 and we decided against them. Alyssa R went with a Gin & Tonic. I went with the High Life. The place is set up like a sports bar, with a little Northwoods feel to it. It has a lot of logs covering the walls. All the TVs had sports on them. In fact, when our drinks were brought by our server, Beth, I asked if the one over our heads could be tuned into the Brewers game. Beth made no fuss about it, and even asked if we wanted the sound on. Very nice! When she got the game on, Beth asked us if we knew what we would like to eat. Alyssa R. went with the daily dinner special, Cajun Chicken Alfredo Pasta. I did the AYCE Fish Fry. Alyssa got a choice of soup or salad. She went with the salad. I got a choice of lightly battered, Beer Battered, or broiled Haddock. I went with Beer Battered. I also got a choice of potato. That was French fries, Sweet potato fries, or potato pancakes. My Mom had already told me about those pancakes, so I went with her recommendation in getting them. There was a choice of soup or salad, too. I went with soup, which was clam chowder. The short wait we had for our first course was filled with conversations of the upcoming weekend. Alyssa Rs salad was basic. With a couple of cucumber slices and a wedge of tomato. We also got a basket with two dinner rolls and room temperature butter pats. The chowder tasted alright. It was chunky with potatoes and had lots of clams. Flavor was lacking a bit. Could have used more seasoning or something. It was good, though. Beth was on top of removing our dirty dishes. We didn't have to wait long for our suppers to arrive. The plate was massive with 4 hand dipped and golden fried Beer Battered fillets of Haddock and 2 huge potato pancakes with sides of maple syrup and applesauce. Also a side of tartar sauce. Alyssa R had an equal plate of food that was massive. It was such a big plate it made me think of a Buca di Beppo family style serving. I had to ask for lemon, which Beth admitted she forgot. I got the first couple of pieces lemoned, cut into one, and bit into a wonderful piece of fish. Wow. What great flavor. Crispy shell with dill mixed into it. Nice touch to the Beer Batter. The fish was firm & full of flavor. Haddock isn't as flaky as Cod, but still holds up well. This is a great Beer Battered fish. Now. The potato pancakes. The Best. Ever. None can compare. My Mom did not lead me in the wrong direction. And fellow Yelpers. I will not either. Go here just for these, if you please. They had a wonderful flavor of onion in them, with a fantastic sear crust on both sides. I buttered mine, and that melted right down into them, which made them even more decadent. Pure joy in eating, and now remembering, them. When Beth came to check up on us, she encouraged me to put in an order for more fish now, as for the kitchen would be closing up shortly. She said even if I didn't want anymore, to put in an order anyways, and I could just take it home with me. That was nice to mention. I did 3 more pieces because of that. When the Haddock arrived, it looked and tasted just as great as the first. The dill flecks in them was wonderful. One almost doesn't need tartar because of it. I took two of those 3 pieces home with me and Alyssa R took at least half of her pasta supper with her. Our bill totaled just over 35 bucks after tax. $12.95 for the AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry. For what I got, I feel that is a perfect price point. I didn't feel ripped off whatsoever. Alyssa R & I are very glad to have come here and will be back again in the future to try out some of those other Haddock choices that are offered with the All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry. This is a great addition to the Rhinelander AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry circuit.

While not as chic as a fine dining establishment in a metropolitan area like Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago or New York, it's as classy as it gets north of highway eight. We made a reservation for a Saturday evening - they could have accommodated us as walk-ins (and walk-ins are welcome) but I'd err on calling for a reservation and securing a table, especially on a popular day of the week. With a reservation we were promptly seated and waited on. I started with a dry martini and my wife picked a wine from a pretty decent wine list. It was a great martini--see my photos. Many of the items on the menu are what one would expect, but there were a few that piqued my interest, in particular the schnitzel. As a frequent visitor to the Austrian Tirol and Bavaria, I had to give it a try. My wife opted for salmon. The entrees included soup or salad. I went with lobster bisque and my wife went with chicken noodle soup. The bisque was rich and flavorful. Though the bread stick was out of a box as opposed to baked in house, it was an acceptable accompaniment to the soup. As for the entree, the schnitzel was prepared the way I like it--pan fried and not deep fried. With a properly breaded, seasoned and crispy crust, the pork itself was perfectly cooked. I could eat a schnitzel like this every day! The Spätzle was fine and the sauce tasted good but it was a little thin. The red cabbage was definitely sour but lacked the sweetness necessary to balance the acid. I'd suggest that the chef check out the red cabbage recipe from Alinea which has an excellent balance of sweet and sour. And one more suggestion to mimic the schnitzel I've had in the Tirol and Bavaria, a dollop of sweet jelly to spread on the cutlet--preferably a white wine jelly fortified with herbs like rosemary. That said, the dish was great and I would order it again. I only took a bite of my wife's entree, but the hollandaise and salmon was good. She especially liked the kale. To end the evening we shared a dessert. My wife makes a DG tiramisu and we've had some great tiramisu's in Italy. This one was right up there, though the espresso soaked lady fingers were a bit weak. Nevertheless, as you can see from my photo, we demolished it. A nice grappa or Tirolian schnapps would have been the perfect finale but alas the bar was not that well stocked. All in all a decent dinner, a place I will return to in the future, and a great addition to the culinary scene in the region.

We were in town for my daughters wedding and I called at about 5:30 to get a 6pm reservation for 6. They easily accommodated, and after being there for a few moments one of the ladies told us there was only 3 people working, but let me tell you, they never skipped a beat. Everything we ordered was delicious, and I highly recommend a crock of their house made soups. I had the French onion and it was so good. For mains my husband ordered the steak tips with spaetzel, friends got the pasta, but the real star was the empress chicken! It was perfect! Also.. I would be a let down if I didn't tell you to order the cheese curds. Fried perfectly, light and crispy, not greasy.. and so so so good! This is definitely worth a stop for anyone local or visiting!!

As with many cases this season they were very short staffed and trying to offer good service to those that had made reservations. Our server had several tables including one of 16 people. I can't believe how good the service ended up being with Karen our waitress. As a seasoned vet in this Industry she was on top of everything. Additionally the food was Breyer than I had hoped for. We all started with the salad bar which was clean and organized. They did end up running out of ranch dressing which was a disappointment but that was the only thing that fell short the entire evening. After the salads the four of us has the French onion soup which was better than most I've had. This was followed by our main course. Two of us has the 10 oz. Fillets, on had the 16oz ribeye and lastly one liver and onions. All the steaks were fabulous and the liver was also good from what I hear. There was no rushing, Karen our server timed out servings perfectly and the evening turned out spectacular. A big kudos to the Manager for getting us in. This will be a part of our rotation moving forward. Don't forget to make reservations!

I recently moved back to Rhinelander and had to check it out again. The place looks the same which I love. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We waited for over an hour for our food and there were only about 10 customers. I had the salmon with risotto. The end of it was fishy tasting and the risotto was mushy. The other two at my table ordered their alfredo. They liked theirs, but when I looked at it, I wouldn't have liked the spiral noodle they used. I felt they were overpriced too.
