Best fish fry in Rhinelander, the consensus of the locals. (Edited to add: Not all locals agree,…read moreand I was chastised by a local who thinks there is a better fish fry at a different place. I bow to his observation and will modify my statement to read that it is the consensus of SEVERAL locals that this is the best fish fry in town!) It's not often that a restaurant that is a part of a hotel gets rave reviews, and in many of the hostelries I've stayed in over the years, the restaurant was an afterthought. Not here! The restaurant is quite popular with residents of Rhinelander along with the hotel guests. I've been at The Claridge Inn (The Days Inn these days) on Fridays, and at the recommendation of relatives, I've always had the fish fry. They also offer baked haddock, one of my fellow diners ordered the haddock. She reported the dish was excellent. My beer battered cod was also excellent, a crispy shell with cod of a perfect consistency. The meal is offered with french fries, I opted to spend an extra dollar to substitute potato pancakes. The potato pancakes were also exceptional. Rhinelander has a number of really good restaurants, the Claridge is most certainly one of them.

The homemade maple balsamic dressing was delicious on my starter salad. I ordered the Wally Wellington, which was cooked to perfection, and absolutely delicious. The sauce was perfect, the filet mignon was tender and flavorful. The puff pastry was a little "underwhelming," but everything else made up for that. I was only passing through, but if I was ever in this area again, I would definitely come back to Wally's!

My first glass of wine was skunky- the bartender didn't fix it (Sorry - no skin off her back) I only had another when I requested a new bottle- way better! When you're paying that much, it better be good! Service was slow but we tried to give grace. Steak was ok Stroganoff was terrible- noodles seemed re- heated & mushy Soup was good We ordered soup because we could see through the bar window that the servers/ cooks/staff weren't wearing gloves while prepping Gross!!!!! We have been to this restaurant multiple time & have always enjoyed the quaint, small atmosphere. Along with pretty good food. I know it's a busy season and we acknowledge that, however, this was not up to par. Too expensive for what we received

Hungry and moreover,…read morein the mood for a nightcap; finding nothing else open for business, we piled into this place, expecting nothing at all. It's a bowling alley bar, in far North central Wisconsin. No frills, no atmosphere, and swelling with the sad vibes of being some of the onliest people in the place besides the staff VERY close to closing time. We had just played a sold-out show at a wonderful Arts Center in Minocqua, so we were not bereft of self-esteem, we were just hungry and thirsty. Well. Cocktails first-being in Wisco, I had to order a Brandy Old Fashioned. It came in a generous plastic cup, the same size as my wife's Diet Coke. It was well-made. Goal #1 achieved. We learned, gratefully, the kitchen was "still open" The menu was a bit surprising. It didn't look like a typical "Bowling Alley Bar" menu. I ordered a "Patty Melt"-not my usual order, but the menu claimed it would come on rye bread with Wisco Cheese. Wife ordered Burger and Fries, and our pal Max ordered "Shrimp"--thinking it would be the typical frozen crap one would expect at a bowling alley bar near midnight. Well. The "Melt" and Burger were delicious, the Fries were excellent, and the Shrimp were nicely steamed and very fresh. WHAAAAAAAA? I was sober, folks. and not THAT hungry to mistake mediocre for anything else. Somebody had some pride in that kitchen. Although they locked the doors, they didn't throw us out. A cocktail or two more and a fine nightcap was had by all. Kudos to Morgan the Bartender, who appeared like a droll Gen Z'er, but turned out to be most pleasant. We were encouraged to see her doing cleanup most enthusiastically--told us a lot about why the experience there was so enjoyable. They care...You find that a lot in Wisconsin Restaurants.

The staff as attentive to our table and quick. The drink menu was big. The daiquiri and pina colada were from a smoothie machine and not super frozen so on a hot day it doesn't last long. I got the chicken bacon ranch wrap with sweet potatoes fries. The sweet potato fries were good but feel like missing a dipping sauce with them. The wrap was a good portion, I prefer a little more sauce. The fish fry plate was big, 3 pieces of fish. The batter was crispy. The corn bread was yummy.

One child had beef tacos, must not have been very good because only a half was eaten. Child number two had a corn dog and fries. Can't complain about the food, but the prices were a little high for what we received. Recommend as a great place to stop while on the lake but would not journey there for other meals.

Lots of parking which might be really needed during the tourist season. Tonight's meal was so so. Was attracted to this place because it had a salad bar. Sadly a number of the offerings were gone, or almost gone. It needed attention! The special tonight was a Rib eye with a baked potato. The Rib Eye was cooked well and had decent seasoning, but the cut of meat was not very good. The cut quality was closer to what I'd expect at steak buffet than at a sit down restaurant. (Could very well have been just bad luck) but when you pay restaurant price for a nice steak you don't expect to get a bad one. It is still the "off" season, but this restaurant just seemed to be understaffed. I ate at the bar and the one bartender was working his but off. But waiting until he was done making drinks to get get butter for my potato (came without any) and salt and pepper got a but trying. Also getting an empty bottle of A1 Sauce was not impressive.
