Why haven't I been here before??? I come up to Minocqua a few times a year and haven't yet come here. Unsure why though, because this place was great!! The prices are good, and the drinks are even better. I got a huge glass of fantastic sangria for only $8! We also ordered the pita and hummus tapa, which was so so good. And it came with a LOT of pita (much appreciated). The music inside is awesome, and the aesthetic is really cool. I loved all the paintings. Service was a bit slow when we came...but because of how long we had to wait they comped our drinks so I can't complain at all. That was so nice of them to do! Overall an awesome place, I will definitely come back here every time I visit. read more

The interior of this place is AWESOME! The patio needs some help....pretty stark. Service was fine despite having a server-in-training. However, we tried two items off the menu. The Dipping Oil....so heavy on the balsamic vinegar, it was hard to even eat. The "sashimi grade tuna"....hmmmm....if it really was "sashimi grade", it was the worst we've ever had. Rather tough and didn't taste much like tuna. If it was high-quality, it wouldn't even need to be seared. Anyway, we will give this place another try but right now, we feel it's only good for having some drinks and take in the interior decor. Such fantastic artwork (from artists in Chicago) and autographed photos & guitars from various rock bands...hopefully their food will end up reaching the great levels of interior decor! read more

What a nice surprise to walk in a stylish, artistic wine bar in a small town. It's very friendly here and you can pick up one of there many board games while you sip on delicious wine. They offer tapas to go along with all their wine selections. We got the jalapeño poppers that are not fried! A nice change where finding fried food is too easy. The jalapeño poppers where wrapped in delicious turkey bacon and very tasty. Paired with their Sauvignon Blanc made this find a gem in our book. Wish we would have discovered this place years prior. We enjoyed the ambiance, food, and drinks here. The four of us sampled many of their small plate menu items, and I highly recommend the stuffed dates and the spanikopita. The dates were sweet, balanced with tangy blue cheese (but not too much, doesn't overpower). The spanikopita had delicious crispy phillo dough with spinach and cheese inside. Their Guinness chocolate cake was so moist, gooey, rich, and straight up tasty. The wines we sampled were wonderful and I had no complaints. Our server seemed to be very knowledgeable on every type of available wine and spirit. I feel like their wine flight drink description cards could be nicer, and have actual information on the winery where it was sourced. They only describe the type of wine. One of my cards was also hand written with dry erase marker. We'll come back next year on our annual Minocqua trip! read more

My girlfriend and I got the cheese board. It was huge, we couldn't finish it. I'd prefer higher quality or more unique cheese and less quantity at the price, but I'm sure others would prefer the quantity. The accompaniments were good. It had chocolate from Dans Minocqua Fudge which was neat. I really liked the dates that came with it. We also got the mussels. They were pretty tasty as well, I just wish there was more bread for the broth. We got the wine tasting course and the waitress was very helpful. Service the whole while here was very attentive despite it being pretty busy. read more

I had the opportunity to visit this wine bar on a recent trip to Minocqua. What a cute, fun little place! I can't really comment too much on the wine selection. I mainly just glanced over those offered 'by the glass'. I ordered an unoaked Chardonnay, followed by the tiramisu martini. Both were good. Prices were very fair. The night we were there, Tuesday, there was (free) live music on the patio. The patio was very pleasant and spacious. We enjoyed the performer who was there that night. There's a rock and roll theme featuring some pretty cool guitars and band photos on the walls. But it's not super rock-ish feel overall. It's more of a contemporary, yet cozy decor. I wish this type of place existed in Milwaukee! read more

Okay, so you're visiting from San Francisco and you need to check your email. Most people in Minocqua either have no internet or a dialup modem made from a tree stump that you have to crank to warm it up... Okay, so it's not that bad. But people still use phone books here as their first point of reference. I'm not kidding. That's why The Vine is great. Bold move for these folks who opened up a very California-esque wine bar off the main drag. It carries good wine and has a great beer selection. AND it has free internet. Makes for a great place for me to switch it up a bit from at home and work while I drink. I do that anyway, I suppose, but this is a good enabler for me while I'm home. My only gripe (a minor one) is that the help seems to disappear while you're there and I'm not sure where they go... read more

Great "attempt" at bringing a nice wine bar to the area, but the food falls terribly short. We liked the beer garden atmosphere but when our food came we were extremely let down. We ordered 6 tapas dishes and all were just not good. The Brie could easily be made at home with a cheap jar of apricot preserves. Their idea of chicken satay is grilled chicken stuck on a skewer with soy sauce. the caprese salad and stuffed peppers are weak, lacking creativity. All in all it seems like they have the right idea, but are afraid to actually take things to a higher level. Wine selection was just OK. read more

The Vine in Minocqua was amazing in every aspect! We stumbled upon it while wondering through the town, and what a find it was! The interior decor had a cool and casual lounge feel, and the outdoor patio had a serene vibe. We had the fruit and cheese plate with a dark chocolate fudge that was to die for. The food was really good, all tapas style and good for sharing as a party of four. Wine list was good and martinis were generous as well. This place feels like you are in a real wine bar in a city, so it is a more sophisticated option than the typical supper clubs in northern Wisconsin. Modern art and decor are cool too. Harsh DMV attitude from co-owner waitress--but tasty shared small plate dishes. Told I couldn't combine patio tables for party of 7 at 5 pm in nearly empty peak season. Told our two tables would be near each other -- like we should get up to pass around our tapas, which is shared small plates? Told one big table is hard on the kitchen--as if two shared tables are different. Told gets crowded for 7:30 live music, which was 2 1/2 hrs away. Finally co-owner husband intervened and we sat 4 kids and 3 adults together. No splitting checked. 3 perc credit card surcharge. We were full and gone in an hour. It was good; husband co-owner is lovely and tried to repair the damage. Clearly they didn't want my $135, which was a gift on a still slow Saturday night. There are plenty of other places to eat, and they might pretend to want your business. I suspect one co-owner won't be in the hospitality business much longer. read more

I was really looking forward to trying the wines and planning on buying a bottle. My husband and I walk in and the bartender is at the end of the bar talking, didn't say a word. The bar was full, so we sat at a table. We sat at the table for at least 15 minutes and did not get any service. The bartender continued to sit at the end of the bar and not move. We ended up walking out extremely disappointed! Very terrible service and would not recommend going there!! read more

i had a pleasant experience here at the vine. the waiter/bartender anna was great. the service was AMAZING from the moment i walked in. anna was there to help complete our order which was nice. it was busy but she made time to make sure everything was okay with our order. the bathrooms are so interesting and the vibe i get from the vine is so unique! definitely would come back. 10/10 would recommend! read more
