I love coming to broken yolk before I leave town. It's the spot my family and I choose for breakfast over and over again. The one in Lavern is my fave because it's the closest to my dad and is always clean and neat. The wait can be long sometimes on Sundays and they don't take reservations over the phone, but it's easy to make them in here. The service is always kinda and the food is always everything I expect. They have a pretty good short stack of cinnacakes and the seasonal drinks are always the best. Ten out of ten recommend! read more

We were seated right away since it was a not a busy Tuesday morning. The hostess let us know that they are currently doing catering for an order and may take a while and we said OK. It didn't take long, and the server came and took our orders. I ordered my usual Spicy Vegan Bowl. (Wish they had more savory breakfast vegan options HINT HINT and why is a bowl of veggies so expensive??). The Spicy Vegan Bowl includes: Plant-based JUST Egg™ scrambled with spinach, mushroom, onion, and red and green bell pepper over home fries and topped with a beyond sausage, avocado, and sriracha for $19.45. On the pricey side for a bowl of vegetables, which is why I don't come as often... My girlfriend had the chilaquiles (Corn tortilla chips sautéed with red or green sauce, topped with two eggs, Jack cheese, red onion, cilantro and sour cream. Choice of shredded chicken, carne asada or beef barbacoa) for $19.95 and she enjoyed it with her Mango Michelada $11.95. My friend had the Country Skillet (ham, bell peppers, onions, and home fries topped with cheddar cheese, sunny-side up eggs,and housemade country gravy) for $18.95. She enjoyed her country skillet with her cherry bomb mimosa . The Cherry bomb mimosa is in the sweeter side and made with syrup. We went to this location on 7/26/26. Usually we love this place. Unfortunately on this visit they were having a really bad day. It was literally an hour from the time we put our names on the list until the time we got (part of) our food even though there were several empty tables. The food didn't come out all at once. The eggs had been sitting and no longer hot when we got them. My coffee had considerably cooled by the time I got a spoon to stir in the cream and sugar. Our individual server was very nice and we could see she was trying her best but overall, the service on this day was definitely not up to par with what we've come to expect from The Broken Yolk. I was really disappointed with our experience at Broken Yolk. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet it took an unusually long time for someone to even take our drink order. Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. The chilaquiles arrived without any sauce, making the dish nearly inedible. They also forgot to bring our side of onion rings, and when we asked for Caesar dressing with our salad, they brought Italian dressing instead. The worst part of the meal was finding a hair in one of our burgers. At that point, we had completely lost our appetite. Everyone makes mistakes, but having so many issues during a single visit, especially when the restaurant wasn't busy, is unacceptable. I checked the online wait time while we were waiting, and takeout orders were estimated at just 15 minutes. I'm officially done with this restaurant. As a former waitress, I always try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt because I know things can go wrong. Unfortunately, this place has been consistently disappointing. We always order our kids' meals as soon as we sit down, along with our drinks, because we know little ones don't like to wait. This is now the second time our children's food (oatmeal and chicken nuggets) has come out after two adult meals. When I asked about it, our server simply said something happened to the first batch. The issue isn't that there was a mistake--it happens. The issue is that no one communicated with us. Good service would have been coming to our table, explaining there was a delay, and letting us know they had to remake the food. Instead, we sat there for nearly 40 minutes wondering where two very simple kids' meals were while our toddlers became increasingly hungry and upset. Once my kids reached the point of melting down, I went to ask for our adult meals to be boxed up because I didn't want to be the family with two crying children disrupting everyone else's meal. Our food was brought out with to-go containers, but we still had no clear answer about when the kids' food would be ready. In the end, we paid for our meals and left. Not once did a manager come by to apologize or check on the situation. The food itself is decent, but it simply isn't worth the long wait, poor communication, or high prices. The eggs were rubbery, the salmon in the avocado toast brown and the potatoes in both dishes we ordered severely undercooked. I do have to say the bacon was good!this was the only thing decent. The potatoes were also of a rubbery consistency and the blueberry muffin was average not spectatular. All in all, I will not be returning.
