I have a soft spot when it comes to getting pancakes with either boysenberry or blueberry syrup. Tara was in love with IHOP and she used to alternate putting a berry syrup on the top pancake, traditional maple syrup on the second pancake, and then back to berry for the last of the triple stack. So now that's what I do. That's why when I go to pancake joints like Pancakes R Us with their selection of syrups, I immediately smile. Yes, I like diner flapjacks and I like places that serve fruity pancakes, but it's nothing compared to how I overjoyed I get when a place has all the syrups and are willing to share them with you. The other parts of the breakfast were good too. The eggs were super runny and sunny, just like they were supposed to be. The breakfast links were good, if not skinny, but they give you four so I'm all good with that. And the hash browns were okay, but it's very hard to eff up those to any degree. And the coffee refills came in hot and came in often. I got to the five benchmark in less than an hour. That's all you want from your server. And this server anticipated me every time as if he were some kind of coffee Oracle. The place was kind of dim and old, but I kind of dug it because it gave away a hangout vibe, like I was a regular as soon as I walked in the door. I even talked MLS/La Liga/Premier League with the server like we were old friends. But the best part was the superb access to those berry syrups. We have a split decision here. My wife loved every aspect of her meal. The omelette was light, fluffy and layered like a crepe. The avocado was fresh. She loved the pancakes. A little dry, but very tasty. I found my breakfast to be bland. The steak was flavored right, but a poor cut of meat. Biscuits and gravy were neither good nor disappointing. The coffee was better than average. We liked that they didn't heavily salt everything. The service started out poor as we were barked at from across the room by the hostess to choose any seat to our left before the door was closed. Regaldo saved the service in my opinion. He did a great job. The space is dated but clean. With the price of goods and services being quite high locally, the prices are here at $57 for 2 are still higher than most of the other breakfast spots I frequent. read more

I am always on the hunt for the Perfect Diner. I've wanted to try this place since I moved back to my hometown over a decade ago and found that what once was the Sizzler of my youth was now a simple diner. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time or entering a portal into some one-horse town in the Midwest. Wood paneling everywhere. Brown tile flooring that hasn't been replaced since the Regan era, and kitschy tin signs from Hobby lobby. The good, my two children and my husband were satisfied with their meals. The sunny side up eggs came out perfect for my eldest, and we all agreed the bacon was perfect. My youngest had the chocolate chip pancakes, and that's a total no-brainer. My husband had a meat lovers omelette and no complaints. Now for the negative. We were sitting for at least 10 minutes before any staff checked in on us. I was so thirsty. Secondly the pancakes were a mess. They didn't taste like buttermilk, which should be standard at a diner and the waiter said they were, but worse, they were falling apart. No structural integrity whatsoever (per my photos) the waiter said they were made from scratch, and if that's the case they need to tighten their recipe. Lastly the hash browns. I love hash browns, and they were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside... but with no seasoning whatsoever. Even adding ketchup could not summon my enthusiasm or hunger. I sent the pancakes back, and they were kind enough to remove them from my bill, I should have sent the hash browns back also, but I didn't have the heart. Our server was so kind. The other patrons seemed perfectly content, but I doubt I'll return with my fam any time soon. read more

So let's start with the positive, the food is well prepared . I had the quick breakfast with poached eggs. Mom had the ham and cheese omelette and pancakes. The bad , maintenance. This is a former Sizzler restaurant. It has been open under pancakes RUs name for years. Yet it still retains much of the Sizzler look. The tables are worn the flooring is stained and mismatched. The windows had the frames painted at some point , paint was left on the glass. . Service was friendly and speedy. Accuracy was an issue. I asked for eggs poached Med and that was perfect. I asked for my hash brown extra well done . I received potatoes that were soft and starchy . The service ware was showing its age and miss matched. Given the Montclair location is close by and in much better shape I can not recommend this location. I am hopeful with the new Metro station some improvements will be made. read more

When we arrived we were greeted by a very polite young lady after her was another young lady very sweet. Then came a male server who took our order. I did ask for recommendations between the chile verde plate or the chilaquiles but his response were a bit short i don't know how to explain it. We went there for an early bday celebration of mine and I was not very impressed. Everyone in my party enjoyed their order, as for me well I did ordered the chilaquiles rojos which were good and spicy, the rice and beans were too bland. I ordered a waffle as well and that was very good. Just fyi Their menu has a lot of options and I mean a whole lot of options. It was proportionately perfect with a moderate price tag, making the Senior Breakfast a very good value. I ordered the patty melt ($13.99) as one does. It's a burger patty smothered with grilled onions and American cheese on grilled rye bread. Most burgers and sandwiches come with fries and as their ranch, they use individual Ken's Ranch dressings and honestly, I've never met a better ranch situation. The fries are lightly seasoned so they were delicious. The patty melt was just as advertised - fatty, melty, and oniony. The chili cheese omelette ($13.29) was also very good. It's an omelette smothered in chili beans and cheese lol. Again, it was as advertised. I liked that most breakfasts come with your choice of toast OR pancakes! Giving a 5 star review all because of Alex and his excellent service. Alex was nice and took a minute to talk about our thanksgiving. People dont have to be the same to extend a short visit. He was working his butt off serving everyone Thanksgiving morning but still gave me a 10% military discount and thanked me for my service. The food was good, seats comfortable. My daughter and I ended up walking out after being seated with no service. They gave us the menus when we were seated. After 10 mins we tried to get someone's attention after we saw two other couples walk in and get their drink orders taken. Hate to make it about race but we were the only black people there. Being busy is fine, but they weren't (there was no wait to sit) so to clearly skip service to someone already seated and service those that came after is crazy and poor customer service.
